  1. Ok I am currently in a very long lasting, annoying stall!! It seems as though I can do NOTHING to jump my weight loss! Even though I know this normal and everyone goes through it, and I expected it. It still doesn't make it any easier. I'm going on 2 months! And I'm about ready to cry! I just want to see the scale move!! I'm now almost 11 months out, so this great curse started in my 9th month, and this is the first I've ever had since surgery. I've lost almost 100 lbs since surgery (I probably won't hit 100 because of my stall). Very aggravating, and upsetting.. Also I am eating right! I know that would probably be the first question asked. I may stray every now and thin.. but I stick to my diet plan. And I do work out 5 times a week. Hit both cardio and weights! I know there is no answer, or way to break a stall. You just have to ride it out. So I want to hear about other's stalls. How long did yours last, how did you cope? How far out was you? How many have you had? I know some have had several small ones. Please give me some hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel! Thanks so much!

    Hysterectomy

So I have recently had a total hysterectomy due to Uterine cancer. I am only 34 and this is usually not a cancer found in those my age. I know there is a connection between obesity and uterine cancer and I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? It was about 18 months after surgery that I was diagnosed, and 250 lbs lighter. Just trying to find out if I'm the only one,

You don't really wanna hear what I have to say anyways....

OMG I KNOW exactaly what you are saying! I hate when people ask me what I have been doing to lose weight and when I tell them I eat healthy, and don't drink pop, they make up excuses or get mad! Sorry I can't help it if that's what I did. lol. But it's the truth! I get just as frustrated at them, as they do me!

    Hair Loss

I was so scared of this. I read so many stories from people who had major hair loss. I'm just over a year out and had no hair loss at all. It remained thick. I actaully believe I lost more hair before surgery than after surgery. I think I am one of the lucky ones.

    Week 2 stall?

Not losing is ALWAYS better than gaining! But what's most important to remember is that your body is going through a lot of changes, and sometimes it takes it sometime to catch up with these changes. I did not stall in week 3 and 4.. I gained. Actually between weeks 3 and 6 I gained back everything I lost in the first 3 weeks! It was awful. I was having a lot of issues with going to the bathroom, getting my protien in and getting my Water in. I was really dehydrated. Once I got my body working like it should I started to lose again, and contiuned to lose until I was 9 months out, when I hit my first stall. That lasted 2 months. Two long months of seeing no changes on the scale. However, while i wasn't losing weight, I was losing inches like crazy! I dropped several inches and two dress sizes during those two months, without losing a pound. The number on the scale isn't the only important number to watch, so is your inches! So watch those too!! You should really take something to get your bowels moving. Make sure you're getting your water and protien also... and move move move! Not only will walking and working out help with the weight loss it will also help move your bowels! And I hate to tell you this, but this won't be the only stall you have! You'll have more.

    Hospital Stay Question

I was self pay, I went into surgery at 11, and was home by 6 that night (I live 2 hrs from hospital). So they didn't even keep me 12 hrs. I had a really easy recovery though. No pain, and no issues.

    Period and weight gain

Ok ladies I have a question about weight gain during your period. I have heard of some women noticing weight gain during your period. I guess before losing weight, I never noticed, or paid attention to my weight. That and I had stopped having my period all together. However, now it's back. I noticed this week during my weigh in that I had gained 5 lbs! Which of course freaked me out. Then I started my period. Have any of you gained 5 or more pounds during your period? If I would have been eating wrong, and not exercising I wouldn't have freaked out. But I work my butt off! lol..

    Nothing bothers me!

The only thing that's bothered me has been certain kinds of cuts when it comes to beef, and pork, and Pasta. Other that that I can tolerate everything. However, my taste buds have changed, and I'm really sensitive to sweets. I have tried everything too. Guilty. I don't like the taste of chocolate, pizza, or any fast food! I'll stick to my chicken, and veggies please lol.

    Restart

This hole losing thing can be really frustrating can't it? Especially when you read of others, and how it just falls off of them, and they never seem to struggle. However, no two people are the same! It is really important that you track your food. Either in a personal journal, or online through a program like My Fitness Pal (there are apps you can get on your phone too. I'm too poor for one of those fancy phones, so I can't help you there, but I'm sure there are some that can guide you there). Record EVERYTHING! What you eat, what you put on your food (salt, pepper, ketchup etc), what you drink. EVERYTHING!! You may be surprised! Eat your Protein first! Make sure you're eating several little meals during the day. Healthy of course. And get your Water, water, water!! If you are dehydrated your body will hold on that water! As far as exercise goes, this can be hard. Especially if it hurts, or wears you at. I struggled at first with this. I could hardly do anything! I had to push myself, and others had to push me to get me going! The more you do, the easier it becomes and before you know it you'll be doing things you thought you never could! Now I hate not working out, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong when I don't! I hate it! But it took me a long time to get here, and I'm sure if I would back off too much I would slip back into that mind set. Just remember to get active! Even if you start out with just walking, even for only a few minutes! I have actually heard a lot of people going back to pre-opt diet for a week. They do one day of liquids, one puree, and one soft. There is a thread on here someplace where they talk about it. Might be in the diet section. I don't remember. I have not done it.

    Help me?

Like several others have mentioned everyone reacts different to the surgery! No one is the same! I did not lose right away either. I too was upset. But I was assured it would come off, I was just holding onto the water! Which my body seems to do often (even 11 months out)! I was in my 2nd week when my body decided it didn't need to hold onto that Water anymore, and started to let it go. And believe me you'll bladder will let you know when this happens! I dropped 15 lbs! I was so happy. However, I had a really hard time getting in all my water and my body started to hold onto water again (which it will do when you become dehydrated). I gained that 15 lbs back! I was so devastated, and upset! However, once I started to get my water in, and my Protein I started to lose again! It just takes time! I have had this happen several times! I have learned not to look at other people progress and compare it to my own! As long as I am losing, even if it's a 1 lbs a month, I am losing, and not gaining! I also remind myself of how far I have come! I've almost lost 200 lbs that's noting to sneeze over! I can kick butt in the gym, and do things I couldn't even imagine doing 11 months! Right now keep your eyes on the prize, focused. To keep yourself motivated. You'll get there!

    Reactive Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia is the one thing that hasn't gone away since surgery. So when I have my spells (that's what I call them too) it's nothing new to me. I have actually cut out any non-veggie carb foods from diet. But since you are having reacting it might be different for you.
  15. I think I can take your reasons copy, and paste and claim them as my own! It reminds me so much of the many reason's I had it done! I started out at 450, and I'm down 185 lbs. It is amazing, and well worth it! You are making a good decision. Your son may not understand right now, and he may be really scared. But in a year from now he'll understand, and he'll be happy also. When he see's you healthy, not living on pills, and doing things with him you haven't been able to do.

    Self - Pay Costs?

I had my surgery in Cincinnati with Dr. Trace Cury. Mine was 14,700. That was for everything from pre-tests, to the surgeon, and anesthesiologist fee, to stay etc. It was everything. When I was doing my research on surgeons, and prices etc. I looked mostly in the Dayton-Cincinnati area because that's where I live. Most would not give me a price, or even estimate the price because everything was charged separately. There was the price of the surgery, the fee's for the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other staff. Their was a charge for the hospital stay etc. It was not a lump sum because everything was charged separately. I had called on office who told me to call the billing department where the surgery would be taken place to get an estimate. That estimate was a total of 25,000. I went with Cury. I have to say I believe I made right decision. Not just because it was 10,000 dollars cheaper, but because he's just amazing.

    Body Odor

Ok I have a question. It has been brought to my attention that I have a strange body odor. I cannot smell it, but others have. I have NO clue why? I am very clean. Sometimes I take two baths a day (morning and night). I really don't know what to do?? It was brought to my attention by someone who I have always thought to be one of my main supporters. So it's left me pretty crushed and heartbroken. But I am aware of it now, and I can't ignore it. Does anyone else have this problem? And if so what was the cause and how did you keep yourself from being "smelly" It must be pretty bad because I was told that I "smelled" the house up, and I left a scent in the seat I sat in. I will say that I have a lot of excessive skin! I've lost 180 lbs this past year, and I'm about 9 months out from surgery. I'm on a high Protein, low carb eating plan. I was just starting to get some confidence and feeling good about myself, And now I feel like I've had the air knocked out of my scales, and I'm back to square one where i want to run and hide. Now not because of my weight, but because of my smell. Can anyone help me, Or give me some advice?

    Drinking pop

I use to be a pop addict. I was addicted to Dt. Mt. Dew. I could easily go through 2 cases of pop a week! Do you now how much that is in a year? Like 2,305 pops in a year. People would be shocked if I didn't have a pop in my hand. But when I decided that I needed to make a change, or I would die I decided pop had to go. I started out cutting it out slowly. Then my brother said to me one day "why don't you just give it up cold turkey"? So I took that as a challenge and did. I never had a pop since that day. Well I took a sip of Mt. Dew on Christmas and it was gross. And it was a very little sip. I do not plan on going back. Not only do I feel amazing, I know it's not good for me. It's not good my kidneys. I like my kidneys. I've done enough damage to my body with that crap! But that's just me.
  24. Oh I was going to ask you if you and your sister had the same surgeon?
  25. Thank you for sharing. That could not be easy for you to share, or write. My heart breaks for you and your family. It has to be hard that believe that a surgery that was suppose to save your sisters live, ended up being a cause of her death. Even it it was a direct cause, I'm sure it was a part of it. I just want to hug you.
