I am a 37 year old mother of a 19 year old in a very long term relationship with a skinny man..LOL! I cannot believe it is less then two weeks away, it's funny how all of the sudden everyone is telling me horror stories about the pain I will suffer. And the bad side of the sleeve such as the slow weight loss and the horrible gas. So, as you probably can imagine I am a nervous wreck! I guess I turned here to see if someone can make me feel better about my decision. My doctor requires a 800 calorie diet starting 2 weeks prior, it has been torture but as least not as bad as all liquid. I live with my boyfriend who is not spportive of my decision at all. He is 6'2 and never gains weight yet eats like an absolute pig. When we met I was 127, now I am 280, hard to believe I ever got this big, I think I gained all the weight from what he ate.. LOL... the picture is from 10 years ago ...he says I don't need the surgery and that he loves me how I am but I think he fears me leaving him or something really. My dad actually talked me into the surgery, now he is trying to talk me out it. Needless to say I am a mess. Anyone go through something similar?

Two days before my surgery I spent all night reading horror stories on message boards and the internet. After surgery I was freaking out the first few weeks. I think I called the nurse at least a dozen times during that time. In fact I even went to the surgeon for an extra appointment. I will tell you this everything turned out great. I had no pain after surgery and was out of the hospital after one evening. I am 10 weeks out today and have lost 67 pounds.

Yes some people have complications but set your eyes on the prize and everything will work out. You will be fitting into the swim suit you always wanted to wear next summer. I am sure your husband would love you big or little.

I have gained about 100lbs in the 9 years that I have been with my husband. I didn't start out skinny, but I was a lot healthier than I am now. He loves me either way, but he has been very supportive of me having the surgery because he wants me to be happier and feel better about myself. I am sure your boyfriend is feeling a lot of things, including being afraid for surgical complications and fear that you might get more attention from men if you lose weight.

I think the main thing is to do it because YOU want to do it for yourself. Good luck! You are going to be great!

Forget the horror stories, we may have minor and short term inconveniences but everything works in the end. You will lose a lot of weight immediately and it will taper off over time as that is the way it works. I went into surgery at 236 came out two weeks later at 217 then 210 two weeks and now at roughly eight weeks at 199. Point is it may slow down but it should slow down, you can lose forever it has to level off over time. Just remember you will only lose 50 to 60% of your excess weight not 100%.

Yes, you may have problems drinking Water for a bit, or get tired of the liquid phase, soft food phase, etc. but all those pass in time.

Just remember you are doing it for your long term health, sit on an airplane without a seatbelt extender, pull the car seat towards the steering wheel instead of pushing it away.

My surgery is the day after yours 10/11. I'm 45 and I'm lucky that my husband is very supportive of my decision.

Try to focus on all the good stories. Actually, there seems to be a lot more good outcomes than bad. I have yet to read an actual horror story, but I pick and chose what I read. I guess I am a glass half full sort of person, but I truly believe that it will all be worth it. I don't expect complications at all, but if there are, I will deal with them then. Worrying about what may or may not happen isn't going to change what happens. And it seems that complications are the exception in this surgery and not the rule. I do expect to feel some amount of pain, I'm sure there will be gas and some nausea for a short time, but I don't consider those complications, just things that come with this surgery. I wake up with terrible back pain daily from all this excess weight, so if I have to suffer in some pain for a few days or even a week post-op, in the end it will result in less painful mornings from carrying around all this excess weight. So it is worth it to me.

I am very excited about my surgery, not nervous at all. But I think some amount of nerves is very normal. I think if your boyfriend was supporting your decision, that would probably ease some of the anxiety. But you said your father is supporting your decision, so try to spend some time with him and get some positive vibes off him.

I ask my PCP for some mild tranquilizers for flying anxiety, and he gave me Lorazepan 1mg. This was a life saver for flying, sleeping before AND after the operation and just anytime that my nerves wouldn't quiet down.

My Surgery is scheduled for 10/11 as well and I'm currenty on the liquid diet I'm so excited to have my sleeve, in 2009 I had to have my band removed due to an erosion and its been a nightmare every since I gained back 70 pounds in no time at all, I'm so excited to have my surgery on 10/11.. I know what its like to be at 170 pounds which sounds like a lot but I was comfortable and happy to be under 200 pounds can't wait to get back in oneder land. My surgery date is 10-13 so I know alot of what you are feeling!

We will get through this together and be so glad we did.

Just focus on the reasons you NEED (not want) to do this, and spend some time making a list. It will help with the pre-op nerves and be fun to look at afterward as you get to say "yup, did that, met that one", etc.
