I'm so sorry you are struggling. You should have been provided with a post op diet to follow. Most of the time it is liquids. Your tummy needs to heal properly, and you need to follow it to protect your staple line while it's healing. It could ease up some of the throwing up too. If you eat too fast or the wrong things, it will most definitely reject what you have put into it. Focusing on water/liquids to drink early out is very important. Dehydration is a serious problem, and can also cause nausea. How much Water are you drinking and what food stage are you on? Did they give you anti-nausea meds? Are you on a PPI? Like Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium???? I do hope you feel better soon!

You really need to follow the post-op diet your doctor gave you. Not only will you risk the healing of your staple line, but the last thing you want to do is try to eat around your new stomach (especially so early). If he didn't order you on Clear Liquids, you should strongly consider doing that for at least 4 or 5 days before you introduce any mushy foods. Macarooni shells doesn't really qualify as mushy foods. When you are ready, instead try apple sauce, cottage, Soups, yogurt, etc.

Does your docs office have a nutritionist? If so, I would really recommend calling them first thing in the morning.

Of course the standard advice is wise, to follow your doctors orders on what to eat, but clearly you have some issues that are keeping you from doing that. You know you shouldn't eat those things, because you are worried about the staple line, so that tells me you need to seek a counselor to get your head right. There is no shame in asking for help. We all need it at one time or another.

Ask your doctor to recommend someone you can talk to about this. Believe me, you are not the first to feel/react this way.

I wish you luck and if you can't locate someone who can counsel you, at least come back here and vent when you need to.smile.gif

I'm sorry you are going through time. I'm struggling as well. But it will get better! Call you doctor and have them give u something for nausea. Definately stick with Clear Liquids. Trust me when I tell you dehydration is extremely dangerous. I know you are doing your best to get fluids in and remember, its not your fault!!!

I am so sorry - I had surgery on Monday, the 27th so the day before you and I understand what you mean when you say you had no idea!

I too was vomiting everything and it was not only discouraging but really painful. I was in the hospital 3 days and was still sick after leaving. I finally started keeping food down after doing 3 things - switching back to clear liquids (just broth, Protein Shakes, and popsicles) taking an anti nausea pill daily, and taking Zantac daily.

I really hope things start looking up for you and if your doctor's office is anything like mine, call them. They are there to help.

This actually kind of pisses me off. Where did y'all have surgery?!?! I mean, I went to Mexico (which you would think wouldn't be as good as America...NOT TRUE!) but Dr. Aceves explained everything. I did tons of research before hand so I knew exactly what I was getting into before I did it. How many doctors are out there taking peoples money and doing surgery on people that have zero to little idea of what's in store for them? To me, this is unethical at best. I mean, this is forever, the rest of your life! I firmly believe that you have to be in a certain mindset, not to succeed (hell everyone will lose weight) but to flourish and thrive. If a person isn't in this mindset, then surgery at this time shouldn't be done. There are always ups and downs and moments of regret for most major decisions in life...but to really not know what you were in for before hand is horrible.

Even if your doctor didn't tell you, didn't you surf the boards and other places for information? I don't mean to sound harsh, it just seems like you weren't in a place where you should have had this surgery. Did you not know going in how long you would be on liquids? Are you prepared to go through another major surgery to repair damage you do to yourself? You can ask Tiff how fun having a leak is...it ain't pretty.

For the nausea, try dramamine, that's what my doctor told me to use and it worked for me. For the cheating, stop it right now! Don't make me pull out my mommy gear and wag a finger at you. If you can't *not* cheat, then you need to see a counselor ASAP before you hurt yourself and do real damage. There is no shame in asking for help when you need it.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
