I has a cold - questions

I am 25 days post op and I have a horrid cold. My nose is unbelievably stuffed up and I can barely breath. I've been taking childrens Tylenol but I need some advice: is it ok to take cold medicine? Nyquil or Mucinex, cough syrup or a decongestant? Do you have any other suggestions? I want to be mindful of my new sleeve and not take anything that will hurt me. Thanks!

I'm not sure about taking cold meds, hopefully you'll get some replies from the experts!

But can't you try one of those Vicks sniff tubes to clear your nose enough to do a sinus rinse? A sinus rinse would really loosen things up and probably bring you great relief!

My best suggestion is to contact your doctor's office. They would be able to recommended what would be best and safe for you to take at this time.

Thank you for your advice. I wrote to the PA in my surgeons office and she told me that I was cleared to take cold medicine like Nyquil and Mucinex. The Mucinex tablets are ginormous and I'm a bit weary about taking them. I'll just hope the cold doesn't travel into my lungs! I told my fiance that in the future, I would much prefer he bring home flowers rather than the plague... ;)

Yes be careful, I was advise not to take any pill larger than a plain M&M for the first three months. I hope you start to feel better soon. :D

They make this mucinex powder for older kids, that you just drop on your tongue and swallow. They also have the mucinex medicine in some liquid cold/flu medicine. I also got a horrid cold about 2 weeks out. I bought this liquid that said rapid blast for the flavor. It tasted horrid. Good luck.

rapid blast

What a name for a flavor! hahaha
