3 days postop sleeve and HUNGRY

I am so hungry....i am craving chinese food and kfc badly...I thought my cravings would go away. Now i feel like i am starving to death. the protein shakes are disgusting and i can only keep down popsicles at this moment. Do you think it would hurt if I tried to eat something chewable?

The purpose of the post-op diet is to allow your staple line to heal and advancing your diet without talking to your surgeon could be VERY dangerous. If you're allowed to have Protein Shakes and don't like the ones you have, try different brands. Call your surgeon before making any decisions and DO NOT try solids at 3 days post-op.

Absolutely! Your stomach is stapled off and you could develop a leak if you ate anything at this point. then you would need a feeding tube.

No surgery type fixes head hunger. Hang in there, you have no choice. You have to do this. Call your doc and ask for more suggestions.

If you get a leak you won't be eating or drinking anything for months. You'll have a feeding tube stuck in your gut for nutrition or an IV. Stick it out, you can do this.

IOW, yes, I do think it would hurt a great deal to eat food at this point.

Can you have any protein drinks? If so, the Soy Slender ones taste great and are available in the health food section of your grocery store (on the shelf in cardboard container). You can also have broths. Kelloggs lemon protein water doesn't have a lot of protein but at least there is 5 grams and some fiber in it.

i am buying protein powder from the local health food store and mixing it with slim milk...it is staying down somewhat, but it doesn't cure the hunger pains. i am sorry, but I thought this postop diet was going to be easy. I am just disappointed b/c I kind of feel like I have been duped.

Call your surgeon and tell him/her that you're hungry and having difficulty with the diet. I am sure they heard this from other people and may have alternative foods they will allow you to eat. If you're allowed to do skim milk, it sounds like you're on a full fluid diet. If you are, you can have creamed soups.

It does take awhile for the hunger to subside. Perhaps you should try a different Protein drink.

You will be amazed later on when that hungry feeling goes away and you just don't feel hungry.

Whoever told you that the post-op diet would be easy?

Wasnt me....Today is the first day of real solids and OMG what a difference. Daisy was right, you got to take it slow, chew well and stop before you are full. I ate my first piece of chicken breast and got too full, I was so sick. I will definitely be more careful next time.

It is definitely a miserable feeling. I would rather eat mushy.

I have lost all the weight I gained when my band was unfilled. My clothes are too big for me. I don't want to go out and buy new clothes. I am going to learn to eat solids slowly over the next few months. I am still learning. It's still very hard for me to judge.

If you can stomach the Isopure zero card drinks are doing great for me! I got to start mushies today (partially cause I am loosing weight to fast.............. like who would have thought that would be a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -21 lbs)

I am so full from the ground beef and Beans from the burritos I made the kids for dinner.....I think I might pop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but I would call your dr. get advice from his / her nutritionsit. But I can say that the 80 g of Protein I get from the iso pure is making me never want to eat! (and my nails are growing like crazy!)
