second fill

Recommended Posts

Have patience! Thats my biggest tip. I didn't feel any till my 3rd fill ( 4mths out) and didn't lose but maybe 2 lbs during that time. My first real meal after feeling restricition was wonderful. I ate like a toddler! I finally saw my band working (it was useless before).

Just HAVE PATIENCE! It will work eventually!

Just got my second fill today and I still don't feel restriction... does anyone have any tips?

it's frustrating. my Dr is super conservative with fills and I think it will be months before I feel restriction! I have 2ccs now 4 Weeks out from surgery. not another fill until 6 more Weeks. :(

just wanted you to know you're not alone. he said id probably feel some restriction around 4 ccs. such a long process but we're in it for the long haul!!

Be patient, it'll come it just takes a multiple fills for some people.

The best tip I can offer is to stick to band sized portions, track your calories, and do your best to live healthy even while establishing adequate Fluid in your band.

The only thing I felt was pressure and you can tell when the doctor hits the port...weird feeling but definitely doesn't hurt

This thread was helpful. I only had 1 fill with no restriction. My dr also seems conservative and at $60 copays for fills .... My head doesn't want to go back for more. I don't envy anyone paying out of pocket for this!!

I had my first fill on Monday of last week and I don't feel much restriction either. I'm so afraid the band won't work and I will fail at loosing weight again. My family tells me I have eaten too much and stretched my stomach. They say I should just measure every thing and only eat 1/2 cup of food. If I could do that I wouldn't have bothered with the surgery. I feel desperate too.

Girl, I just want to give you a hug. I could have written that. Exactly how I feel. Nice to know we're not alone. Easy for your family to say!!

It is so hard to believe but you really have to have patience for this journey. Everyone is different, some people have lost alot of weight with zero fills and others have had 7-8-9 fills. My dr is ultra conservative. 1cc per fill, no negotiation. I am 5 monts post op and have had 4 fills, still not in the green zone..........I live 6hrs one way from my clinic so I am not fortunate enough to go in every 2-3 weeks. That was my choice. Until we hit that zone, we are on a diet. good luck.

Patience is the key. Also, this journey is not about losing weight right out of surgery. It's about living a healthy lifestyle. The weight comes off on its own.

So my device is to get out of the way and let the band and your dr do their jobs. You will be amazed. I'm 5 months out tomorrow and I can gulp liquids, eat big bites, eat a lot of food, be hungry after 1 hr, but.... I sip, eat small bites, portion food out to 1c and 850 cal a day, and work on moving more. I've been really successful. Can't wait to feel the fill.

I haven't updated my ticker yet. Last fill was feb 25. I have 7 ccs in the realize band (14cc) and I'm 212 today. (From 276)

Good luck to you!

I've only had one fill at 5cc's and at first I felt like I couldn't even eat 1/2 cup of food and now 6 weeks later I'm feeling hungry and like I could eat anything! I go in again this week for another fill and hopefully I'll finally feel restriction again. I've only lost 10 lbs since my fill and I've been working out like crazy and sometimes I feel like I'm doing it all wrong but I know it's such a long process to get into the green zone, Best of luck to everyone!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
