To Much Protein

Is it possible to have to much protein a day? I know 70-100grams is recommended, but are their benefits or side effects to going over?

TMI, but too much protein "backs me up"

Sorry I know its not the answer you were looking for, just saying, haha.

Too much protein can cause kidney issues. there are no benefits to having more than your body needs.

A good equation to figure that out is your weight X .48 = daily protein intake. It's not fool proof, but it's what my surgeon gave me.

Kekeboo is correct. Too much protein can cause kidney stones.

when hub made me a double protein shake (that was for breakfast and lunch but didnt tell me) and the ole gal here downed the entire thing, i know too much at one time can make you feel ill......my dr said 70+ per day.......if i am over or under, i am good either way..........its right, def can clog you up

Ditto on that....excess protein is flushed from the body through the kidneys....too much protein here and there is not to bad, but every day over a period of time.........

But remember...banded people have to drink plenty of Water, and kidney health is one of the reasons.....

This is exactly right.

You can get too much protein, in fact years ago I had it happen. I had a raging kidney infection because of a build up of protein when I was on the Atkins diet.

This is rare, mind you, but it is possible. More so if you have a history of kidney problems.

It's also possible to see a spike in your cholesterol if you're eating a lot of fatty animal protein.
