5 Days Post Op

Hi all, I'm 5 days post op and feeling pretty good with the exception that I'm not hungry at all. Each day I struggle to get enough calories in. I've been averaging about 300-400 a day. I'm drinking so much water that I'm not hungry at all. I drink fluids and I feel like I've eaten a holiday dinner? Overall I'm down 16 pounds since I started the pre-op liquid. Any suggestions?

No suggestions. Just letting you know that is my experience EXACTLY. I just woke up feeling full. Awkward...

Nope!! Your body and stomach area is still healing and this will take time. This is very typical on alot of us who have gone through this already. You should be able to drink your Protein shakes in post op, not just Clear liquids. You need the protein. Make sure you sip Water or any liquid while healing. I believe while I healed I had some 500 calorie days but the rest were 300-400 per day.

Be patient and Best wishes. It's worth it.

Richgirl, very normal! I was exactly like you with my water and calories (except mine was a little lower). As your new stomache heals you will be able to eat more. Best thing you are doing right now is keeping yourself 'hydrated' very very important! I say you are doing just fine :)

Thanks everyone! Good to know I'm "normal". Lol!

I had surgery on the 27 th and have to do the clear liquids for 2 whole weeks. Energy level is very low. I would die for a protein shake!

Normal... try to work in 2-3 oz of protein every hour along with your fluids.

I was feeling really weak too.. Called the Dr and they said to have a Protein shakes. Call them and ask! It's worth a shot.

Exactly how I felt.. Try and get 3 protein shakes in i found that gave me more energy.

It wasn't until yesterday (day 8) that I started to feel hungry between shakes.. I take this as a sign that the water and tea I'm drinking in between is slipping through easier as the swelling goes down.

Day eight*
