You need to follow your surgeons instructions during your post op diet, whether you like it or not. It's not for weight loss, it's for healing, and it's crucial your stomach is allowed time to heal so you don't end up with a slip or other complications.

As far as calories, find a nutritionist and go see them. It's really important so you know how and what to eat so you can be successful with your band.

Best wishes.

Are you lactose intolerant? If so make sure the shakes you buy are lactose free.

The best I've found are Slimfast, high Protein, low carb. They are about the only ones I can tolerate.

My doctor said 1200 a day. And try to eat 4 or 5 small meals a day. You are physically able to eat more because your band is empty but you shouldnt. They stress Protein because it helps you heal.

You are only 2 weeks out, you should absolutly be following your dr's instructions, and if you are not clear or sure, phone the office. This is a very important stage in healing...........good luck.

Thank you shelly! An oh wow i dont get even close to that im eating 300-400 calories

My goodness, you poor thing. These are things that your surgeon should have told you OR should have directed you too a a nutritionist to help you. This is the first that I have ever seen where someone didn't know what to do post op. do you have some booklets to go through that maybe you missed?

The post op diet should NOT be a mystery. Your correct healing depends on this period and what you eat! I would take all of your questions and direct them to the person who is supposed to be working for you.

On a side note, I was only eating 400-500 cal during this time so it is normal. Watch out for sugar content on the shakes too.

Keep us posted on what or doc says!

Shelly, she's only two weeks out. Meals may not even be an option for her.

Please speak to your doctor's office for directions that are clearer for you. My doctor also called for 3 ounces of mushy Protein per meal. If you haven't already done so please get a kitchen scale for measuring your protein. I'm over two years out and I still measured my protein every meal. Since you were only eating 3 ounces of mushies the doctor might want use to add a Protein Shake to help with your hunger.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
