Hi guys! So I just got a new job and I am on a 6 month probation. I just spoke to my manager and told her I will be submitting to insurance soon for lapband. She said I will be able to take 2 days off prior to my 6 month probation in order to have surgury...do u think if I had the surgury on a thurs morning and going back to work on monday would be enough time? I sit most of my day at work....help please :)

I was uncomfortable the first day after the surgery, but lucky enough did not have any pain. Didn't even use my pain meds. I was only going to take 3 days off, but I was sooooo tired, that I wound up taking the following week off.

Just make sure to get plenty of rest while you can, and drink plenty of Protein so you have energy. I think you'll be sluggish during the afternoon's, but others were able to do it, I'm sure you will be able to as well.

Best of luck!

The general anaesthetic also knocks me around. No way that would have worked for me and I am a desk jockey.

Can your job really dictate how long you take off on sick leave?

And not wanting to put a downer on things, from what I have read on here, you will most likely have completed your six months probation by the time your insurance is approved and you are scheduled for surgery - which may make it easier to get more time off.

Good luck.

Couple of things: do you know which days of the week your doctor does surgery? Most are on a pretty inflexible schedule, days in office, vs surgery days. There's no guarantee you'll be able to have surgery on a Thursday. Is it an option to take time off without pay?

When is your 6 month probationary period up...might be that you will be past that point by the time you're approved. If not, have your submission specify a time period that is past that date. I'm assuming you need your job to have insurance?

I would not have been able to work for about 10 days or so, post op. I also had lifting limitations. Don't know if your job is physical or not.

Good luck!

I had surgery last Wednesday, and today (Tuesday) was my first day back. Eight hours felt like 15 and by the end of the day my incisions itched, by tummy hurt and my back ached --- and I couldn't take any pain meds all day as I had some seriously thinky stuff to do and didn't want to mess up. It's do-able, but if you can swing a few extra days to heal, you really should. Best of luck to you.

I ended up taking off 3 weeks. I had an unexpected hernia repair. You don't know until surgery so that is the problem there. I was do tired and week that I could not have gone back.

Like was said above, I guess if it goes text book you can go right back but I was glad I took the time off.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
