My insurance says I need to be tobacco free for 6 months...what kind of test will they run or do they take your word. I have quit just not 6 months ago

Usually blood tests, possibly even a hair strand test. Hair strand tests show it in your system much longer than a blood test does because hair absorbs what we put in our body.

My husband is a smoker..and it gets in my hair..will that be an issue

I don't think second hand smoke gets inside the hair. I think doctors give blood tests versus hair tests. As a recruiter I know some employers (ie Kraft) does hair tests since it does give a longer snapshot of drug use.

Not for drugs only nicotine. I just dont want to be denied

My employer for insurance purposes tests for nicotine yearly and they do it with this thing you have to hold in your mouth for a few minutes

It is a hair follicle test, they pulled out several strands. Exposure to smoke will not

be in your follicles. I did not smoke; but my surgeon tests about a week prior to

surgery.

Interesting topic, I never knew surgeons or insurance companies actually tested for it. I don't and never have smoked thankfully so maybe why I was unaware.
