Extra Skin And Depression

Anyone else feeling depressed about extra skin?? I am really trying to keep positive and know that I can start talking to a plastic surgeon soon. But lately its been really hard!! Looking in the mirror and all you see is extra skin!!! Its gross to me. Even though my boyfriend constantly tells me how beautiful I am its like I dont believe him.

How do I even deal with this? its been 2 weeks of me feeling disgusted with myself. Ive tried looking back at pre surgery pictures and those are also disgusting but its not helping!!

Is this a normal phase??

I have lost 110 lbs and have a large amount of skin sagging from my abdomen area. I consulted a plastic surgeon over a year ago and the consensus is that the only way to get rid of it is with a tummy tuck. When I visited the plastic surgeon I was 223 lbs. Now I weigh 165. The more I lose the more it sags. I may have a tummy tuck within the next two years or may decide to forego it. In the interim ... I find joy in knowing that I've lost 110 lbs and that I am healthier. teeth_smile.gif

If there is someone who donated their skin, can someone plese post to let the rest of us know this could possibly be an option?

Thanks so much!!!

Yes please let all of us know if skin donations are possible

I would definitely donate if able. My DH had a heart transplant 7 yrs ago. Organ donation is a subject I truly believe in.

Now let me preface this by saying I'm glad I had my body lift and my BA, coz they did make a difference in the way I perceive myself. But I just thought I'd add that when I was big, I focussed on my weight, when I lost it, I focussed on my excess skin, when I got rid of that, I focussed on my lost boobs, and when I got a BA, I started focussing on my thighs, and my teeth, and my... well you get the picture.

I then realised that it's human nature to always pick out the worse things in yourself and think that's what makes you 'you'. I remember being overweight and thinking if I got to 160lbs I would feel perfect. But it doesn't happen that way. You always find something wrong with yourself. You're never happy.

But you have to decide if that rules your life or not. I exchanged excess skin for significant scarring. I remember telling a good friend after my body lift that I didn't know whether trading excess skin was worth looking like Frankenstein in hindsight, and she said, do you realise that no one cares about that but you? And she was right. No one did.

You are your own worst critic. Don't listen to the inner dialogue that continues to put you down despite your success. Because it won't suddenly start happening once you get plastic surgery. Choose to Celebrate your achievements now.

Well said lellow, I want to get rid of the excess tummy skin because I have fought a fungus/rash for more than ten years. I am afraid even after I lose the excess weight I will still have the same problem.

To date I have lost 157 lbs. I am 50lbs from goal.... and my legs are sagging pretty badly since thats where I carried so much weight. I am going try to get motivated to exercise and get them toned up since I dont have the time nor really have the desire to get the skin removed. My arms sag too... maybe the exercise will help there. My boobs however are beyond help without surgery...I hadnt thought that I would have them altered but its actually affecting my personal life . My hubby doesnt mind.... but I do...in a big way .... and its getting in the way of me enjoying that aspect of my life. So after I hit goal I plan on looking into that....

Well said!

You have the love and support from your significant other...that is priceless! I plain don't stand in front of a mirror naked...not a good idea...and totally unnecessary. Just don't do it! Listen to him. I know that I would much rather have some extra skin than I would be dead at a young age! I did this for my health, I did not want to get diabetes or any other obesity related medical issue! You are doing great and for god sake stay away from the mirror naked! lol Once again a lucky girl to have the support of him!!!
