  1. I was on full liquids two weeks post and two weeks pre-op. My surgeon requires this to shrink the liver before surgery and to heal and adjust to the band after surgery.
  2. I know I will never do shorts in public, Capris definitely! I have been in tennis shoes and prescription orthotics for so long, I am hoping to be able to wear something sexy even for a short amount of time. I have always loved shoes and was the Imelda Marcos of America in my skinny days! LOL
  3. My sister had WLS ten yrs ago and warned me that I might go through a grieving process for my old eating habits. I didn't, but was so still glad she had given me a heads up on what could happen.
  4. Philup, I had my first fill 2-1 and I hate needles. It wasn't bad at all. He put in 2cc and I thought I was feeling true restriction but found out you will be swollen after. I don't have much restriction yet, am scheduled for my 2nd fill 3/5 for another 2cc. Sometimes I get hungry within 4 hrs of eating, I try to eat my protein first to stop my snacking.

How Long Does The Gas Pain Last???

Sweet, I am 2 months out and had a similar experience. Walk, walk and walk some more also a small dose of pain meds. My gas was gone for good about two weeks post-op. You will get through this and it is so worth it.
  6. Yes Grider that is the way to go. I frequent a plus size consignment shop and buy two pairs pants and then return them a month a later. I am do looking forward to a regular size consignment shop.

    I'm 3 Weeks Post-Op

You won't feel much restriction until you start on fills. It is normal to gain some weight when you start on mushies and solids. Did you have plication with your band? If you did it can help you through bandster hell. I was banded 12/29 and have had one fill. I do have plication which gives me a small amount of restriction. This is also not the time to worry about restriction or losing weight, you are healing and learning what to eat, how much you need to chew that bite. In general just adjusting to your new life. Good luck and welcome to Bandster Land.
  9. Cathy, had my first fill 2/1 and like you felt restriction the first day or two. The more experienced Bandsters told me the restriction I thought I felt was from being swollen, as usual experience rules the day. Just stay optimistic, we will arrive!

    Vegetarian Food Ideas

LB4me, I'm not a vegetarian but those sound yummy and am going to try them.
  11. I haven't had any trouble with onions or asparagus but found out Friday I can't eat coleslaw anymore. However, cooked cabbage doesn't bother me.

    Abdominal Pain....gas?

Nat, if MoM doesn't help DO call your doctor, I had the same type of pain. Turned out my diverticulois developed into diverticulitis. It really is very painful. Take care!
  13. G, yes the band will help with portion control if you follow the rules. Healthy food such as grilled, baked or boiled protein first, complex carbs then whole grains. I am not in the green zone yet but had plication with my band and eat less than I would with just the band. I think my 6 month WW pre-op weight loss helps me make healthier choices post band.

    Stuck On Getting Stuck

Since I posted 4 weeks ago, I have had my first fill. Not much restriction yet, but I have been stuck 3 times in the past month and each time it was my fault for not following the rules. I was so hungry Thursday night, I ate too fast, didn't chew thoroughly and took bites that were too large. I had to laugh at myself for being so dumb. After I "unstuck" myself I was much more careful, I have also found watching TV or reading while eating takes my attention away from the rules and I am more prone to getting stuck.
  15. Don't beat your self up or feel you're a failure because you indulged in a treat. That attitude will set you up to fail. I have found that allowing myself to have a small portion of what I am craving enables me to follow the rules 95% of the time. That is winning to me, before the band I couldn't follow them 5% of the time. Good Luck
  16. I am six weeks post -op and did WW pre -op. A lot of what I ate then, I can't tolerate now. My doctor told me since I am eating less high quality food is important. Soups were my fave for full liquids, especially egg drop, bean soup pureed with my immersion blender, very thin oatmeal, grits or any hot cereals for breakfast. Mushies my faves were FF refried beans thinned with salsa, baked sweet potato soft scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa. Protein first, complex carbs then whole grains. My DH had a heart transplant in 2004, I am an expert on heart healthy foods and can mock "fry " almost anything.
  17. I started at 311# and it was about 35# later before people started to notice. It never gets old when my husband comments about my butt being smaller or my son tells me my hands look thinner. I LOVE IT!!!

    Ugh...im So Weak

I have plication but only 2cc in my band since I am only 6 weeks post-op. My pouch holds about a cup right now. I know with more fills it will hold less. Love that plication!

    Confused.

You won't lose as much during mushies and regular stages. Remember you are still healing and don't worry so much about what you aren't losing. A healthy loss is 1-2 lbs a week and you are way above average. Welcome to bandland.
  22. Wal-Mart had an awesome protein whey powder, big container for 15 bucks 22 grams per scoop mix 2 scoops with FF milk. Chocolate peanut butter is terrific.

    Belching...

Yes, this is normal you are still healing and adjusting to the band. It will get better. When you eat or drink later on, remember to chew well and slowly. You don't want to get stuck or have PB's.
  24. Mck, I know this sounds bad. We were at a local casino for fiesta night buffet. What I did eat was soooo good. Especially cause my buffet was free. I don't feel guilty about eating so little when it is free. LOL!
  25. Try other shakes with more protein, if you keep reading the posts here, you will find several kinds with much more protein.
