Feeling emotional after surgery happens to a lot of people as far as the sugarfree stuff if you havent ever used them before it might just be something you have to get used to or some things just dont taste the same after surgery. I dont have issues drinking and never sipped after surgery but if you decide to drink just be careful. Also being afraid to move up in your diet can be normal for some people because your just afraid to eat that too shall pass believe me it will. Its probably hurting when you burp because you just had surgery.

Post surgery blues is very common. And with something like a band a lot of people have the OMG what have I done feeling as well. It does get better, I promise.

You should be able to drink fluids without a problem but don't gulp too fast as that can cause a problem. If you continue to have problems drinking contact your Dr. It is possible that you have some Fluid in your band and that combined with the post op swelling may be making you too tight. If this is the case then the Dr will remove the Fluid until the swelling has gone down.

Just keep hydrated by sipping slowly but often.

Ditto the other two posters but it also sounds as though you went into this not really knowing what to expect. I would suggest you do plenty of research about what to expect from here on in and make sure you ask your surgeon lots of questions as you move through the different stages.

The nurse practitioner told me that after surgery, your new pouch is the size of a walnut! A Walnut!! That's so tiny. So it's no wonder that the first several days can be so difficult. My surgeon doesn't put any Fluid in the band. Did yours? Just take it slow, take pain med if you need it. And don't expect too much too soon. It's a real process. I just started solids ( banded 10/12) and it feels great to eat again. You will get there too. Also, call your surgeon if you are unsure about some of the symptoms you feel. I found that to be helpful and reassuring. Keep us posted!!

I think I was a little emotional too after surgery but it past pretty quick. I was banded on October 10th and I'm still learning the in's and outs of this band. And what I'm finding out is there isn't always rhyme or reason with it. I can eat the same thing one day and it goes down fine then have it again another day, and it get hung up in the band and cause me pain. I have had this a couple times since i got the band, scary sometimes and painful but not so bad you cant stand it.....and dont be scared to go through it...its bound to happen at some point just part of the process of learning to deal with the band. I'm sure your still pretty tender from surgery so alot of the burping and stuff still tends to put pressure on the abdomen . Wish you the best of luck and hope to continue to keep updated with your progress , take care and all the best......we're on an new journey and it gets more exciting everyday. Take care and add me to your friends list . :) quote name='Brat1024' timestamp='1320361953' post='1681631']

I was exactly the same way! But everyday got better. I had severe pain in my upper chest with burping after surgery. It went away around Day 8. I think it was still the Gas in me. Also, I lived on sugar free Jello preop, but post op couldn't stand it! 3 days post op I also had an episode while drinking my Soup broth, to the point I thought I was dying and had to call the surgeon. Haven't had a problem since though. From what I've heard, every day is different when it comes to food. The band has a mind of its own!

I would say that at day 7 I really started to feel NORMAL again. I just had to keep telling myself that it will be worth it in the end. Also, I looked at all of the before and after pics on this site when I was having a particualrly rough day. That really helps!

All of this is normal you're experiencing. For the first 2-weeks after surgery, I cried almost everyday because I did not feel like myself and I was so sick to my stomach. I got to the point I couldn't even think about putting something liquid to my mouth without gagging to death. It was exactly 2-weeks to the day, I woke up and told my husband "wow, this is the first day I feel half way ok". For 2-weeks I asked myself, "what the hell have you done"? I was a miserable person and was totally regretting what I had done. My surgery was June 30th, today I can honestly say it has been the best decision I've ever made for myself. I feel 25-years younger, I can go and go and go now where before I would get so tired just doing the littlest things. Don't know if you're a Christian, but prayer helped me more than anything. Everyday when I get up, I ask God to hold my hand to allow me to do whatever I'm suppose to do that day!! Best of Luck to you, I promise in a month you will look back and say omg I am so glad I did this.

Reading your post was like reading my own!!! The burping and resultant pain was crazy and I cried too, A LOT. We are so used to comforting ourselves with food, and when we can no longer do that, it's like being adrift in the ocean with no life raft. It gets so much better, really! By the 5th day I was feeling better, and two weeks after I felt pretty normal. This online forum saved my sanity, too. Just keep reading and reading, and by all means take the pain meds!!!

Hi everyone...oh how I love you guys thanks so much for all the responses...sorry it took me some time to respond havent had access to a computer just my crappy phone lol....Well I am now 5 days post op and I feel better. Not 100% but I am pretty sure I am getting there. I found out when i called the dr office that I have no Fluid in my band. They said I probably either drank to fast or I just dont like the rasberry ice and the jello....which I DONT lol. I hate Jello now!!!!!!! hahahaha I had some sf fudgesicles which I would have never thought of but you guys are awesome and put me on to them!!!! I tolerate them fine and they are so yummy and last night I hade one of those sf jello decedent mousse dessert things mmmmmm so good!!!!!! So I do feel like I am not getting enough Protein because I gotta be honest I am sooooo over the Protein Shakes yuck I just dont want them :( According to my sheet I have another week to go on these things and it's killing me...gross!!!!!! I been drinking Water (probably not enough) but i'm trying my hardest. As far as the emotional part I think i'm getting better everyday I havent cried in 2 days :) I get a little down when I see everyone eating and smell yummy food but I get out the house and do a lap around the yard and I feel a little better!!!!! Ok so I guess I can start my mushies soon....still a little nervous about that, just hoping I can tolerate them....I don't know but it scares me. My sheet says to start on week 2 well tomorrow will be 7 days since surgery is that considered week 2???? lol I really want some consistency....I wanna just try and get it over with. I want a bite of mashed potatoe so bad lol. I am so grateful for all of you guys....you have all been so helpful and encouraging throughout this journey. Is this the bandersters hell week that I have heard so much about??? Or does it get worse??? Oh boy I hope not...and if anyone ever says this is the easy way out I will punch them in the face lol this has been the most DIFFUCULT thing I have ever endured!!!!!! On the bright side I am down almost 20 lbs :) xoxoxoxoxox

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
