"That Full Feeling!?!?"

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Dec. 28, 2010, and the doctor explained that the band would give me a sense of being full from eating just a little food. Well, I started this week eating mushy food, and I do get a full feeling, but it feels like I'm over full and it is coming up in my throat. The feeling is a little uncomfortable, but not overwhelming, and I just stop eating, and it goes away later. Is this semi-uncomfortable feeling the feeling of fullness the doctor described? And is this what I can expect from now on?

I'd say you're overeating or eating too fast. I've never had this feeling nor can I say my full feels that way. I feel satisfied; full is when I eat too much.

Yesterday was the 1st day I overate and ate too fast! And exactly what you are describing is exactly what I felt. I ate my lunch in about 15 minutes, it was a 1/2 cup of food...which I am still not used to eating that yet! But I realized when it was too late...I could feel the food sitting at the back of my throat...PRAYING noot to throw up! ( I was at work ).

I told myself that I chewed chewed chewed, but ate too fast and too much! I Won't Do that again! The feeling was awful!

Good Luck!

For me full is when I'm just not interested in eating the rest. I wish there was some sort of alarm bell that was going off saying yes your full but for me there isn't. When I find myself "full" it usually means I'm close to being sick. signs for me are hiccups, runny nose, excess saliva and some times pressure in my chest. You have to be on the look out for your own signs. it appears it is different for every one. I have found I can eat more of one thing and less of others. I can still eat more than the 7 oz I've read about and I mentioned it to my doc at fills and she says its because I haven't hit the 'sweet spot" yet. I have had 4 fills. I have a 14cc band and currently have 8cc in it so I should be getting close. Yesterday was my 4th fill so we will see how this feels when I eat solids again. I can tell you before I had my 1st fill I could eat as much as I wanted and it made me very nervous. I had to fight back the urge not to over eat. I actually gained 4 pounds from the mushy transition to my 1st fill. I have learned that with the band I have to be very patient, or maybe it is just my doctor I need to be patient with, but anyway, You'll get there. I started this at 306 pounds and currently weigh 252. I was banded Sept 28, 2010. The day of surgery I weighed 278. Oh and by the way, I fell off the excercising wagon 2 months ago. I have lost 26 pounds since surgery. Imagine how much I would have lost if I would have stuck with the strict exercising program I did before surgery. I plan to start exercising again but its kinda like over eating without the band, I'm having a hard time committing to a program. Good luck to ya and hope this helped.

I feel it slightly in my stomach, like when I stand up, but it's not the huge bloated feeling like I would get pre-op. Yea it's not the full feeling you think of. 90% of the battle is mental, and just physically noticing you don't need more food to be full, the band isn't going to change your eating habits or stop you from eating. Just eat your half cup of food slowly, and you shouldn't be hungry, sometimes I want more food, but my body isn't hungry. I feel like the band keeps the hunger at bay. When before you would diet and be hungry all the time.

Full for me is a piercing pain in my left shoulder. It is really uncomfortable. I am not sure if this is normal or if its left over irritation from all the gas pain I had from surgery. However, I have noticed if I eat one bite too much I get this pain in my left shoulder and it doesnt go away until the food has passed! Crazy, I have learned where that point is but sometimes it sneaks up on you.

When I was tight I would get an uncomforable feeling in my chest. It would go away in about 15-30 min. I am now maintaining and chose to have quite a bit of an unfill. It is pretty much like I don't have the band anymore. I wanted to be able to eat Breakfast (I was very tight in the morning) and foods like whole wheat Pasta and whole grain bread. I also now get the same feeling of fullness I did before being banded- which I missed a lot. I have been closely monitoring my weight (weighing in every day) and so far am doing well.

I spoke to my dr coz i had the same i thought i had something wrong with my shoulder lol. what it is is deffered pain from your stomach. so it makes sense that when your full your stomach is in pain however the pain is deffered into your shoulder. My pain can be debilitating. I even went to hospital once before i knew what it was from. i get it from fizzy drinks too so it is extra help with keeping to proportion sizes :)

When I over eat I have shoulder pain and hiccups. It's a slow process to teach yourself to listen to your body and not your eyes. I don't get my first fill until Feb 11 so I hope I can keep everything in check and not gain any weight back.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
