How long post surgery did take off work? i'm trying to figure out...everyone says something different. I'm planning on my surgery on a Wed, and returning to work on Monday or Tuesday. I have a fairly light duty physical job at this point. How long did everyone take off?

I had my surgery on a Tuesday, and went back the following Thursday. I have a moderately heavy job (standing 10-12 hours a day as a Veterinary Technician, and lifting animals) and only ended up working 1/2 the day, as I was exhausted. The Friday went much better, and after the weekend, I was pretty much back to normal. I had 9 days off officially.

I'm a vet tech too. I was thinking a week would be good and just tell coworkers I can't lift heavy dogs for the next couple weeks. You think I need more? I don't want to have to use my vacation time and was just going to take a medical leave. The problem is I work emergency, so I never know what to expect we can have no emergencies and just treat the in hour patients or have a crazy night or day.

I had my surgery on a Thursday and went back on Monday...but I was soooo tired! At that point I was only on liquids and had no energy, I ended up taking off the rest of the week. Once I was able to get some food in me and had some energy, work was not such a chore ~ and I am in accounting, so its just sitting at a desk.

I have a very physical job. I was banded on 9/28 and still not back to work because of lifting restriction of 20 lbs. There is no light duty offered at my work so I will wait until Friday's appointment to get cleared. Total of 6 weeks.

I had my surgery on a Saturday and returned to work on the 9th day, I sit at a dest and my port was sore, I worked 1/2 days that week and returned full time, everyone is different however I would recommed 2 full weeks off or 3 weeks if possible:rolleyes2:

I had my surgery on 11/01 went back to work on 11/08.

This week is fine with work, however I am still a little tired and sore at night.

I was back at work the next day...for a few hours and then went home. The next day was better. Normally I spend half the day packing boxes that weigh anywhere from 10-25 pounds and while I filled the boxes, someone else moved them for me due to my lifting limit. I'd say it's a moderately physical job. The other half of the day is spent at my desk.

Personally, I think the moving around helped me heal faster but I was in total control (it's my business) of how much I did and how fast I moved. Some jobs may not be so accommodating.

I took 3 weeks off and then ended up leaving work at half day each day for a week after that. It turns out I am very sensitive to the band, which created some discomfort for a few months. I found I needed to lay down in my car on my breaks (I work 10-hour days). I was banded in early July and now in early November I feel really good, but this is a recent change.

I suggest you take off as much time as you can. You really want to give yourself time to heal and get yourself off to the BEST start possible! Rest when you need to -- and don't "buck up" just because you read somewhere that other people felt good a few days after surgery.

This is your own journey and you will go thru it the way you, personally, need to go thru it.

Taking a longer time off, for me, also gave me time to get in a regular eating and exercise routine. Then all I had to do was "add" work!

Well i can't take off that much time. i'm relatively new at my job but i'm a nurse manager at a clinic. so i'm sure that i will be able to do light duty stuff. Surgery tentatively set for Jan 5. SO excited! So i plan on being back to work on the 10th. I can't afford to take off more time, and this is a relatively new job so i can't really ask for more time off either. HOPING i don't have issues. i never have before surgery wise. Usually 2 days and i'm
