Has anyone had any saline removed prior to going on vacation, and then refilled when you got back?

Just curious.

Thanks!

I have heard of it being done. Personally I would not, because I had the band to help me learn new eating habits. Would you be doing it to be able to eat more, or to avoid possible problems? For me I'd claim the latter, but do the former. I know myself.

To have an unfill would invite dangerous behavior in my book. Where do you draw the line? Vacations, long weekends away, family celebrations?

I have postponed fills when I had a big vacation coming up, due to the fact that fills can be fickle during the time shortly after. My first fill was due a week before we had a Panama Canal cruise scheduled. I waited until after the cruise to have the fill. I was very worried about having a complication and not being able to reach a bariatric surgeon.

Otherwise, no, I'd not have fill removed to go on a trip if I was not having problems.

Finding that sweet spot can be trying and there's no guarantee that your sweet spot will be the same if you get unfilled and then filled back to that point later.

I had too much fill and had it taken down to 6cc (from 8.5cc) in July. At that point I could eat whatever and however much I wanted, but since I was still maintaining my weight loss, I decided to wait until we got back from vacation for a fill. However, 3 weeks ago I noticed I was sliding rapidly to the dark side and got a 1cc fill. I still don't have restriction but in the last day or so have noticed that I do have to chew more thoroughly...which means I'm getting close.

I started Atkins induction 4 days ago with the full intention of staying on induction through my vacation. This isn't a diet. It's my lifelong change. Giving myself permission to eat because "it's my birthday" or "I'm going on a cruise", etc. is what got me in this position in the first place. I need to learn to enjoy *life*...not plan my eating around life.

My .02...don't get that unfill and stay on your eating regimen even on vacation. Don't look at it as punishment and resent it. Look at it as a lifestyle change and be thrilled when you come back from vacation pounds lighter...instead of heavier. B)

So you could eat more?

That defeats the purpose of the lap band. You're suppose to be practicing eating habits... etc.

I have never had a fill taken out for vacation. That just seems bad because it can bring back your old eating habits. No one knows about ym surgery and I was able to go back packing for 10 days with some friends and survive fine with a 10cc fill in my 11cc band.

No, but I sure wish I would of had more saline in for my vacation!! Iv only had one fill and at 4cc's and not much restriction so on my vacation I basically had to diet and I was wishing the whole time I had more restriction to help me..I used to really enjoy eating on vacation to the beach, was one of the best parts for me and Im not going to lie I did eat but its just not even worth it anymore...Im praying for restriction with my next fill! I could care a less anymore about pigging out on vacation.

I went on vacation in July and had a fill in June and did great on my vacation at an all inclusive resort! I ate everything, but the good part is that it was all Portion Control and of course you already have your mentality to try to make better choices....not that I did all the time, but the restriction did help. I had about 2 stuck episodes out there and so just to avoid that out there, I watched the majority of my food. I would never encourage an unfill. In this case portion control is what helped. I only gained 2 lbs which I lost the 1st week I got back!

I just got a fill Tuesday and leaving for a cruise tomorrow. My doctor actually asked do I want to wait so I can enjoy my cruise. I said no. I am not at my sweetspot, but at a good level where I get full faster so I will have good Portion Control. I thought about problems, but I have good traveler's insurance to ship me whereever I need to go! I like others need to make vacation less about eating and more about having fun in other ways.

I asked about having issues with skiing because the high altitude mades it hard for a normal person to eat normally so he said some people come in to have a bit removed to have the extra space to eat to get the energy to ski. I'll see how I feel in December before I do it myself. I wouldn't personally do it for a cruise or other vacation. You're setting yourself up for problems. I'm going on a 16 day Asia cruise in about 15 months and I want to be the skinny bitch on that ship. Ain't no way Im porking out!

Doing an unfill because of the altitude I can understand. There are many bandsters who have trouble with tightness at altitude.

To me, for what it's worth, that is completely different than being unfilled to be able to eat more.

For altitude, I might--just because of the tightness many experience at higher altitudes. (But not to get more energy for skiing--I want my body to use the energy stored on my ass and thighs for that!)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
