Super slow weight loss
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 replied to Yadifan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty normal - go for a hunt on these threads about the three week stall, and the three month stall and you’ll see they are both common! It will pass, just stick to your plan. 50lbs in 12 weeks is amazing, of course! No diet gets you that! Bit hard to tell cos your profile doesn’t give us your weight or goal - but rest assured, stalls are normal. I often find I lose SIZE in a stall! -
Too much food?

I know white carbs are bad and i normally avoid them. We were at a restaurant with a very limited menu. I'm still losing weight ( about .75 lbs a day) so no complaints. I'm supposedly in the three week stall but still losing. My diet mostly consists of a protein shake, cottage cheese, and tuna packs with a side of soup occasionally. I will email my nut and see what she says -
I have lost 22lbs since my surgery almost 6 weeks ago but haven't lost anything of significance since week 4. I went away for 12 days to Greece in week 3 and although I ate very little and walked for miles, I only lost 4lbs while we were away and nothing since then. I was quite depressed today about my weight and this operation. I think I am going to fail at it Reason being, I have realised that I can eat whatever I want, it just takes a lot longer to do it, this is shocking and sad to me. For instance, I can make a sandwich, eat a third, wait half an hour or a bit longer, then carry on eating, depressing. This seems to apply to any food except possibly meat. I realised that I could easily eat more than 1200 calories just by eating every hour rather than having a meal then feeling satisfied and not eating again for at least three hours. I am so mixed up and confused about this, and so sad. I am not eating out of hunger as I haven't actually felt the hunger yet, just a vague empty feeling now and again. I haven't lost any weight at all in a week, this is very telling for me. I have realised I no longer have that bad restriction. Its as though my stomach has suddenly got bigger overnight, I tested it with some rice and chilli and was able to eat 5 dessert spoons before I felt ill. I literally couldn't eat another bite at first when the restriction kicked in, now I can and its only slightly uncomfortable, nowhere near the pain threshold I had previously, this is worrying to me. On the one hand its great that I can eat a little more but on the other, its a scary, and very slippy slope. Today we had a bbq and I I was very surprised to find that I could eat 4 beautiful juicy prawns and a full sausage without the full feeling kicking in. When we last had a bbq a couple of weeks ago, I only ate half a sausage and a quarter of a burger. I have definitely healed a bit more in my stomach area which must be why I can eat more. I'm making a conscious effort to drink at least 2 litres/ 8 glasses of liquids a day and I have at least 60 grams of protein every day as well. I am not exercising much at the moment, just taking a daily walk. From reading lots of posts, hundreds of people on the internet have all lost at least 100lbs (7 stone) over a year to 18 months. Maybe I am judging it a bit too quick and my body is still adjusting to the weight loss but it is so depressing to me that I could fail. I do understand that I could be one of the slow losers, I do understand that I could be in a stall. I really need to get my act together, it can't be just me that it doesn't work for! P.s sorry for the pity party

My weight loss journey
catwoman7 replied to Aprils weight loss journey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't speed it up - it was fairly slow-going all the way. The thing is, after the first six months or so, it's pretty much slow-going for everyone, so after that point, we were all pretty much in the same boat. I just stuck to the plan, that's all. It came off slowly but surely. I almost never went off my plan - I suspect I was more compliant than a lot of others in my group, so I had great success with it (losing 100% of my excess weight). And yes - I did have two or three major stalls along the way (some people have more than that). My first one lasted two weeks (it was weeks 2 & 3 post-surgery. My weight loss started up again week 4 post-surgery - I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days, then the "slowly but surely" thing started up again). I don't remember how long the other stalls lasted - maybe 2-4 weeks? I remember thinking during those times that this was it, I wasn't going to lose anymore, but then....it would start up again. I did work out (still do), but I'm not a gym rat. I mostly went to water aerobics a couple times a week and yoga a couple times a week. A lot of it was weighing & measuring my food, tracking, weighing myself several times a week, and not going off plan. I was determined to lose as much as humanly possible!! -
Need this scale to MOVE!
bariatrick replied to Angelkeeper4's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 7 weeks out - the scale got "stuck" at exactly 3 weeks post-op (had lost 15 pounds to that point) - My stall lasted three weeks. It was tremendously frustrating, but I'd read so many posts here by people who'd experienced the same thing, so I didn't panic. During that time, though, my clothes kept getting looser & looser, just as though I WAS dropping weight..... and I've lost 8 pounds this past week. -
Which stall? haha. Seriously though, first one was three weeks, second was a week. I'm 7.5weeks out. The drop after stall was drastic for the first one, slow for the second one. Hang in there, it happens to everyone! It will end eventually.

Hello everyone! I was sleeved on August 1, 2014, as of today I am down 40 pounds. I am so beyond happy with this weight loss but I have been at 40 pounds for about three weeks I know in my head I need to start exercising and getting more protein in. Please let me know what exercising you have noticed work the best and what your food diet is. I feel my doctor just says good job and sends me on my way. I have another doc appointment next week and my stall started right when I saw him last time. I almost feel like canceling my appointment cause I haven't lost anything since I saw him last! Help please! Any info how to get past this stall would be great!

How is everyone doing? I'm assuming most the people out there loving their sleeve has moved on from the forum, so I thought I would purposefully come back and post an update. Pain - Non existent.. Excercise - Just got cleared to excercise. Started with a couch 2 5k program yesturday. I loved running before the sleeve. It was hard to hold myself back to running only 60 seconds at a time. Food - I can pretty much eat anything.. But some things just aren't worth it.. Red Meat sits hard and heavy in the stomach.. So I try to limit that. I've only had three throwing up experiences since I got sleeved. And none of them were from food. I switched from Prilosec to Pepcid.. And that was a mistake.. Three times though is all it took for me to figure it out. It also allowed me to get off all antacids.. Vitamins and pills - Still take double chewable multi and double calcium caltrate. B12, BComlex are once a day. Hypertension medicine still once a day, but off the metformin for good now. As for how much I'm eatting... I usually stick with 4 - 5 ounces of protein.. And then will throw about 4 ounces of what else is there (Potatoes, Veggies, Pasta).. Finish all the protein then try to make it thru half of the other stuff until I'm full, but not uncomfortable. Weight loss has been extraordinary.. Had a couple of stalls, but usually the weeks after the stalls the weight just falls off.. I've also noticed the stalls relate more to my sodium and water intake than anything else.. So if I keep drinking my water(Crystal Light Lemonade) and reduce the amount of pasta/potatoes/etc.. It falls right back off fast..

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all stall and most of us experience our first stall about three weeks post-op. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. And, stay off the scale. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

Definitely make sure you eat your protein. That has happened to me before. I eat almost nothing and then I don't lose weight. But you have to keep in mind the body will go into starvation mode instantly if it's not receiving enough nutrition. So often I eat less than 1200 cal but as long as I get my protein intake I'll still lose the weight. Also every so often I eat something with a little fat in it just to release my leptin. It really just comes to finding a healthy diet with a lot of protein. You're only four weeks in so it may be time for your first fill. When I stalled, I stalled for about three weeks around 240. And then I got my fill and and started losing 2 pounds a week. So don't feel like you're alone in this, we've all been through it. This too shall pass.

Non scale victory

The dreaded three week stall. Just stick to your plan. My three week stall lasted a frustrating three weeks, but many only stall for a few days to a week. It’s completely normal and you are doing the right thing by focusing on inches! 😀 -
I tried to prepare myself this am when I steppe son the scales- in fact- I missed my weekly weigh in by two days because I figured his would be when that stall everyone talks about would begin and I was trying to mentally prepare myself... Thought I was ready- but I guess I wasn't--- at three weeks post surgery I had lost 18 pounds and I was really happy with that- I weighed today ( 4 weeks and two days post surgery) and it's the exact same I knows all about stalls and everything. Ut man it really hurts to see that number. I know it's a marathon and not a sprint but my brain just cannot see how I can eat how little I do and not lose weight. It's so shocking Thanks for listening- just needed some support Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

if you're still following your program religiously, it could just be a long stall. How long have you been at that weight? Sometimes stalls can last two or three weeks - and even longer once you get to a year or so out.

2 Months And Stalled Already?
renee5d replied to lapbandsurvivor's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 6 weeks post op today...I have been stuck between 229 & 227 for three weeks. Its so frustrating that I have stopped losing this soon out...and being self pay, it makes me feel horrible that I have spent so much money! I too, am trying to focus on the NSV's and I am loosing inches....although not a lot. I would love to hear if there are any folks out there who hit a long stall soon after surgery....but went on to make your goal weight. -
I could have written this post myself!!! I'm at week 8 tomorrow, and I've been stalled since week three. I'm about to tear my hair out thinking I'm going to be at 300 pounds the rest of my LIFE and I had surgery to lose 44 pounds. I know that's not true, but it sure feels that way some days. I went to a restaurant tonight that I haven't been to since January. I did not fit in the chairs back then. I had to perch at the edge of the chair. Tonight--I FIT!! That was some consolation.

Slow losers club

Shopping at Sinking Boats 'R' Us again? When did you last average five pounds per week or, if we subtract the three-week stall, eight? -
I try to remind myself to only weigh in every week (every Monday) so I don't get too obsessed with numbers. I'm five weeks post op and seeing a huge difference in my clothing size (I don't see it in the mirror or anything, but photos are showing me that I HAVE indeed made a dent). I'm eating good protein now, too. I went three weeks without food because my gallbladder tried to murder me and stalled out during that, but I'm back to actually losing.

help!! i had the sleeve done on december 26th. i lost 72lbs (started at 283). i havent lost a single pound since early july. i go the gym about 5 days a week to lift weights, play volleyball, softball and pickleball combined two or three times a week and i go to zumba twice i week. i also try to run a couple time for more cardio. i know i dont drink nearly enough Water, but that cant be the only reason the scale hasnt moved in over three months. im trying to figure out what im doing wrong. during the day i tend to graze, rather than eat three meals with two Snacks. but i find that im always hungry, not matter what and when i eat. for instance, today i ate 1.5 hard boiled eggs for Breakfast and was hungry an hour later. and not head hungry, but STARVING, the way i was prior to the surgery. does anyone have any advice or ideas? has this happened to anyone else? three and a half months seems excessive for a stall. very slow loser, completely stalled

Three+ months of no weight loss isn't a stall, it's maintenance. It means you aren't eating at a caloric deficit. You have been really successful at losing weight -- you know how you ate when you were losing weight. That's what you need to do again. Exercise is great, but the battle to lose weight is won in the kitchen, not in the gym. If you aren't already, carefully weigh or measure your portions and track your intake on MyFitnessPal or a similar app, at least for a few weeks, in order to get a clear picture of exactly how many calories you are taking in. If you are like most people who have been morbidly obese, your maintenance calorie level would be about 2100 calories per day (current weight x 10). To lose a pound a week, eat 1600 calories per day (do not count calories burned via exercise and try to "eat them back."). To lose 2 pounds per week, eat 1100 calories per day. If you are very confident about your calorie intake and tracking and not losing at those amounts, your resting metabolic rate may be lower than that and you need to drop your calories further. As far as hunger goes -- yes, hunger comes back. You need to learn ways to deal with it other than eating. You can never out-eat hunger. It is okay to be hungry. Hunger doesn't mean you are about to starve to death. I did Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to learn ways of dealing with hunger other than eating. Some simple techniques are things like planning all your eating at the beginning of the day and writing down your food plan. Then when you get hungry, you remind yourself "I'm hungry, but that's okay. I can wait until 11 AM when I get my chicken breast snack." Good luck! -
Weight loss plateau
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to Bogarka's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Five months to your first stall (thereabouts) is actually exceptionally good. I hit my current stall at the three month mark and have spent the last two weeks fighting it. You don't have much data posted about your journey, but I would say keep positive and if you think you can tweak a few things (add a little exercise, etc...), do it, otherwise, you will hit the road again. -
I'm entering my 7th week post op and I am stuck at 264 pounds. I realize I have lost a lot of weight but on the other hand, I don't understand why I haven't lost any this week. I am averaging 665 calories a day. I am getting about 70 gms of Protein and I an hitting the 64 ounces of Water. I am working out three to four times a week and burn an average of 400 calories each time. How can I not lose weight? It makes no sense to me. I am aware of stalls and I did have one a few weeks ago but it didn't last more than a few days. It's hard to keep motivated when the scale doesn't move.
-
I have been stalled for about 3 weeks. I also had neck surgery three weeks ago so it is understandable. I need to get back into walking soon! I am so bummed as I need some motivation! I was so strict with walking before my surgery! Now I have to get back to it although slowly. I have been at 211 for weeks!

Hello there! Thank you and Congratulations on your surgery date! You are going to be sooo happy!! I remember pre-op, I was on the liquid diet for 7 days, and it was hard at first, but by day 5 I was getting excited that my surgery was almost here and wasn't hungry any more. I am doing really well post-op - thank goodness. I am a little sore now and then, or if I move too quick in an odd position then I feel a little pinch, but other then that I am good. I am waiting to see if I experience the dreaded three week stall, but the truth I am not really dreading it if I do. I already feel so much better, and have lost 32 lbs in the last 26 days, that if I have to wait a minute for my body to catch up, then it's worth it. Are you excited? Are you nervous? Temecula is really nice - Wine Country!!
