  1. Hey everyone i had my vsg on 1 may and in the initial first week i have lost 10kg but now my weight is stuck. Its showing same scale everyday moreover i started feeling hungry now a days no doubt i cant eat to a large portion as i did before bt m on puree diet bt still feel hungry anyone having same problem plz help bcoz this is demoralizing me

  2. Had my surgery on May 2 and finally into the Puree stage - which I'm told I will be on for 4 weeks. I was back working half days as a clinic nurse the monday after surgery... so you could say the recovery was pretty painless other than that dang internal stitch! Getting my protein in was such a challenge for the first 2 weeks - and getting enough fluids in is STILL hard. Taking my vitamins religiously. Weight dropped super quickly in the first two weeks and now has settled at about the same weight for about 4 days. Maybe my first stall?

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

I'd like to think that there are no stalls. Mainly because even if the scale number doesn't go anywhere, you body is still changing (most likely losing inches). Blessings on your journey hon!

That's a good outlook to have! I think that subconsciously I'm still afraid its "just another failed attempt" at successful and long term weightloss and that I'll be that wonderwoman who can't lose weight even on <1000 calories per day :P I just need to trust the process and get off the scale!

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

Absolutely. The nurse who discharged me today said "don't get on the scale!" Lol. It was nice to hear because I don't weigh myself anyway...but that she understood the frustration of patients afterwards.

As long you stick to your program and adopt a lifestyle change, you will be that Wonder Woman who lost the weight. You can do this....😉

  3. 5 days post opp  had issue with swollen fingers but I had chicken Brest that was high sodium.  Sleep just okay last night but every night is better pain is tolerable now. I only take pain medication at bedtime  but I'm still not able to get recommended protein in. Not sure how to do that if 3 meals are 1 to 2 oz a day   If anyone knows of a puréed food that has 20 grams of protein in 2 oz pass it along.

Hope all is well with everyone !

Ray - try to get your hands on these protein shakes, they were recommended by the nutritionist, they taste good, not diety, and they are packed with protein. Sams Club, Costco, Wal-Mart all sell them - Sams is the cheapest.

  4. I'm 0/2 with new foods (fish sticks and 100% whole wheat toast) agreeing with my stomach, so the last 24 hours have been FUN.

    Not.

No more new foods until tomorrow (going to attempt some cubed ham).

  5. I have 10 days until my 1 year. I still have 15 pounds I need to lose to get to my goal weight. I will be disappointed if I don't lose at least 5 more pounds before my anniversary so I decided to put myself on the same liquid diet that I did before surgery: 11 days focused on protein shakes. If I reach the 150s, I will be delighted. I know once the weight comes off, I can keep it off because I am good at maintaining. I actually think it would be good to put myself on this diet 1x a year every year to remind myself of the difficult time I had before surgery. I will be sad to miss out on a few nice dinners I would have otherwise consumed like the wedding I am going to on Saturday and the birthday party on Friday. Or the Wings game tomorrow. Or the potluck at church yesterday... But, you know what's better than free food? 150s.

    1. Mattymatt

      Mattymatt

Why would you be disappointed? You're a success in every measure!

  6. Almost 10 months post sleeve, and I have noticed that it's time for me to add in one more lifestyle change on top of my plant based diet.  I have added IF, intermittent fasting, 16:8.  I was going to wait until one year, but it seems as if I've got to a standstill and I've got about 30-40 lbs to lose still.  For those who don't know, IF is not a diet...it's just changing WHEN you eat. I fast for 16 hours (mostly sleeping) and then I eat all my food within 8 hours (or I try to).  I work out during my fast as well for extra benefits.  I implemented it three days ago and I'm down 2 lbs now.  I used to do IF during my obese days and I was successful for three months, changing my body's physique and burning fat, BUT I wasn't successful in my head. I'm sure I probably got injured (as it was always happening then) and I succumbed to emotional eating as I always did.  Now, my head is in a better place, and I'm in control MOST of the time. Still not perfect, and probably never will be, but I'll strive to be so.  So, here's to a Newme...in 2018 too!  :)

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

@nursejackie, I know about the night eating...it's a habit I have too (I still struggle with wanting to eat right before bed). With the IF, I fast from 7pm to11am. Lots of water gets me through during the hours I'm awake during the fast, but, as time goes on, it gets easier to do and I meet my water goal. The first three days are hardest, at least for me. Since I wake up most mornings at 6am...I tie my fast over with a cup of coffee and about 35 calories of creamer in it which isn't enough to actually break my fast. Currently, I'm doing a moderate workout (bike, elliptical) for about 45 mins in the mornings before I break the fast. (I brought a banana with me the first few days, just in case my body couldn't handle it, but I was fine without it). The hardest part is trying to eat all my food in the 8 hour window. I felt too full the first day. Scaled back on some and felt better the next. Then I decided I'm not going to worry about it and just make sure I eat when I'm hungry. I do always try to eat something right before I start the fast again though. So far, it's been going well.

I'll try my best to update every so often.

  7. I haven't been on in quite a while, so I thought I would check in.  My weight is down to 173, 7 pounds below goal.  I held at 175 for almost 2 months and randomly dropped 2 pounds a couple of weeks ago.  I had my year follow-up appointment, and my labs were perfect.  Once again, I know that this journey was one of the best decisions of my life, and that I never would have been successful had I not committed myself 100% to changing my relationship with food.  I still follow a keto way of eating and keep my carbs below 25g per day.  I wish everyone the best.  Happy holidays!

  8. Currently 50lbs from my goal weight and this by far has been the hardest journey of my life. I have been admitted into the hospital for severe Dehydration,  I have been well for a couple weeks an then BAM the last couple days back to feeling ruff... My gurd is controlled some times I dont need my heartburn meds other times I live on them. Im loosing slowly at this point but I consider that a blessing as I  have lost a lot very quickly in the beginning of my journey, I do want to feel better. I try foods that I would think would work well with my new stomach some times its a big fail 2 days ago it was avacado I hovered over the porcline god an prayed for releif as I sometimes dont understand, I often times crave carbs and Im trying to control my cravings but its so hard... My sugar tends to drop really low and that makes me very ill Im happy with my progress but often times think WTF did I do to myself, feeling down today as I just dont feel well at all :(

    1. FluffyChix

      FluffyChix

Gosh! Feel better soon hon. ((hugs)) Keep fighting, one step in front of the other. Don't look too far down the road for now.

  9. I'm going to hit my stall now. I can tell, because 1) almost everybody stalls when they start moving on to real foods, in addition to the liquids, and 2) I'm at 302 pounds, lol, and the scale knows I want to see the 2 in the first digit.

I'm fine. It's not going to freak me out or really even upset me. Honestly, I could stand the reconfiguration of inches that always comes with a stall, for me.

I'm posting here in between bites of refried beans, which (knock on wood) seem to be going pretty well for me, so far. I'm so happy. Between ricotta (with a little sauce and a little seasoning) and refried beans (with a very small amount of low-fat cheese melted in), I can live without chewable foods for a pretty long time. (I'm also eating yogurt and ricotta cheese.) I do want to upgrade to the ricotta bake, because it has better protein and might cut down the number of protein shakes I need in a day. It's probably a bit more firm than ricotta alone, so I held off at first, but I think it's time, don't you? Plus, my spouse can put it over pasta and enjoy it with me.

I'm eating 2.5 ounces of ricotta in a serving and maybe that much in beans? (this is my first attempt, but that's how much I served myself) I can eat 4 ounces of Greek yogurt in half an hour, which feels like a lot before the 2 week anniversary of my surgery. But I still haven't really figured out my body's "full" signal. I felt a little sick and stopped eating, one time, which made me think I'd overdone it. Other times, I just take tiny bites, sometimes a few minutes apart, for half an hour. And then I refrigerate or throw out what's left, because that was the guidance the nutritionists gave me. But other people talk about a sore shoulder or something as their signal, and I haven't found that yet.

I guess it'll come with time and practice.

    1. Orchids&Dragons

      Orchids&Dragons

Don't talk yourself into a stall. They're common, but not everyone has them early on. I honestly haven't had one yet. I've only had 3 "up" weeks in almost 8 months and none of them was from a stall. (One was from vacation, two were recovering from losing 13 lbs in 10 days because I was prescribed too much diuretic and ended up dehydrated in the er ☹️) You're unique, just let it go.

It is early for you to recognize a "full" signal. Pretty much all the foods you're eating right now are sliders that just pass through your pouch. Other than the refried beans, most of them won't stay long enough to trigger a "fullness" feeling. Don't worry, it will come. You're doing great!

    2. CrankyMagpie

      CrankyMagpie

If it's a stall, it's only in comparison to the ridiculous speed with which I lost during immediate pre- and post-op. I'm still down like half a pound from when I posted this. (Half a pound in four days is slow for this stage of the journey, but it's still good!)

Thanks for the reassurance! It's good to be told I'm doing well. ❤️

    3. Orchids&Dragons

Yeah, we love that non-linear weight loss when we have a 4-pound week. Not so much with a 1/2-pound week. I only weigh twice a week (and only write it down on Saturday) in an attempt to keep the insecurity monster at bay 😉

  10. At 1.5 years post-op I'm currently going back and forth between 194 and 199. I would still like to lose 25 more pounds.

In hindsight, I should have gotten the bypass. I fight with the fat person in my brain Every. Damn. Day! I am strongly considering a revision for reflux and to make eating sweets a punishment.

I still feel fat, I still hate myself. People are nicer, men touch me 😳 platonically of course, but it still weirds me out. I don't do chips, bread or fries. I do eat ww toast and a taco shell on occasion.

I still have restriction. The bad foods are the slippery ones... but, when you put your mind to it you can eat very little and feel satisfied.

I would do it again in a heartbeat. 💖

Thank you for the update. I'm still on the medication at 9 months out but I find I can go a day in between without it now. My dr thinks I may be able to come off it totally after 2 years post op. It doesn't bother me much being on the meds and he says there is no long term issues with it.

I should have reached out to you sooner. You seemed unhappy last time I messaged you. I wish you felt more positive about where you are. Are you talking to a professional? You've come so far and have done so well that I wonder if you got to your goal weight you would still have concerns.

I would also like to lose 20 or so more pounds and I plan to push to get there but if it crawls back up after I won't let it get to me. I'm 2 weeks away from a breast reduction so I'm going to step up the meal replacement protein shakes and really watch my carbs. Dieting is such a mind game though, every time I try to make a push for weight loss it seems to backfire and I have cravings and eat worse.

Would you consider doing more protein shakes for meals? At least for a bit to jump start weightloss again?

    2. Ldyvenus

      Ldyvenus

That's a good idea, I should switch back to my morning coffee shake for a month and see what happens... I think my down moods might be cycle related, I am going to see if maybe my estrogen is low.

Good luck on the breast reduction recovery.

  11. Hi Everyone,

I'm in my 3rd week post-op and have had a very rough time.  I am still on clear liquids as protein shakes and protein drinks make me hurl!!! I've also had a pretty bad case of the foamies.  I'm finding myself with terrible food envy.  Folks bringing their lunch to their desks is driving me insane.  However, today is the first day I feel like I will get all of my fluids in.  That's a plus.  And 30 pounds gone since pre-op is also a bonus.

  12. Three and half weeks out.  I have lost 34 lbs and I have currently hit my first plateau.  I was advised I am eating to little food and currently light headed.  I have no hunger pains.

I see my surgeon on the 11 of august for my two month appointment.  I am fortune enough to have Bariatric counseling three days a week and PT twice a week. I am finding this really helps

That's really rapid weight loss, Joe!

I'm curious, is the 3x week counseling and 2x a week PT part of your program's standard plan, or something you decided on for yourself? My program has optional personal trainer sessions you can buy, and counseling sessions you can purchase as you wish to make appts for. You can also buy extra sessions with the NUT. The one "freebie" we have is the monthly support group sessions.

The two programs are optional, however insurance covers it.

  13. So the doc wants another week before i try lifting again and then only light weights for another week after that.

i don't know how much of this slow healing process is me just being an old **** or if my post op diet is slowing things down or hell maybe Tricep tear just takes along time to heal.

I do know i dont want to do any damage to it again. Not being able to do much of anything with your right arm is a pain in the ass if your right handed.

well me and the wife and daughter are off to Reno for a family reunion this weekend so that means lots of vegan food (daughter)  sigh

i will weigh in real early in the morning and post my Saturday  update if i lost any weight this week.

need 4 more pounds before August 1- will have my 1 year follow up with surgeon in first week of August

Hope everyone has a great weekend and i'll be back monday to rant and rave against the evils of added sugar and processed carbs. :)

  14. I am down from a size 28 to a solid 20. I can even fit into some 18/20s. The motivation I feel when I see myself in these smaller clothes is incredible. I almost don't recognize myself because the transformation is pretty drastic. I met with a personal trainer yesterday that they offer at my office's fitness center and got some basic info. He is going to give me 2 free "trial" sessions if I sign up for at least 2 additional sessions. I am pretty sure I am going to sign up. I am making this the summer of SleeveinIL! I can't be the mother, wife, caregiver and anything else I want/need to be unless I am healthy. Food is fuel! I see the scale moving again and that is also very motivating for me as well. NSV this week...taking a bath (first since before surgery) and my behind and thighs weren't mashed up against the sides of the tub not allowing the water to flow between the front and the back of the tub. The water was able to move around and nothing of me touched the sides of the tub unless I physically moved my legs there. This surgery is giving me some confidence back for sure. I even updated my photo at work because I don't look like that anymore!

    1. TakingABreak

      TakingABreak

It's funny you mention the photo at work! I got questioned a bar this past weekend because my picture didn't look like me anymore. Congrats! You may have inspired me to take a bath :)

  15. Bouncing around 243-245 and can't seem to break this stall. Since the month after surgery I haven't lost more than a few pounds. I am tracking my food and getting enough protein (I weigh everything), I have increased my workouts and I am now doing cardio and elliptical for a min of 40 minutes/day as well as weight lifting. I am drinking about 55 - 65  oz of water. I am staying at the 600 - 800 calories as recommended by my surgeon. What is the magic required to drop these pounds? On the positive side, I have energy and am able to move around a whole lot better. I feel good and that says a lot.  This week I had 2 people at work notice and told me I am melting away.  So things are moving, just can't get that scale to budge!!!

  16. Went shopping yesterday and feel very good about what I bought: as I'm currently living in a motel and started with only a microwave for cooking, I'm now in possession of a toaster-oven, an electric kettle, and a crock pot. (Do not tell the management . . . ) Tomorrow I'm very excited: going to make beef stew in the crock pot. Most of the food I bought was good, too: deli chicken and ham, some mashed cauliflower,  a pineapple to go with my beloved cottage cheese . . . what I haven't bought, but might next trip, is a scale. Of course, I have a fine scale in my storage locker (just like I have a crock pot and an electric kettle in there, too), but getting there and finding those things? Not happening. Maybe I'll get an apartment soon, maybe it'll be a while . . . whatever happens, happens. But at least I feel a bit better able to eat correctly now, so that's something. The clock is ticking on my "honeymoon" period . . .

  17. Brain dump and rambling...Here I am 7.5 weeks post op and I am stuck at the same 25lb weight loss that I have had for the last 3.5 weeks. I am feeling down, dejected and frustrated with lack of movement on the scale. I am able to get into a lot of clothes and shoes that were troublesome before so I have had some non-weight related wins, but I am ready to scream about the lack of weight loss. I have upped my calories, lowered my calories, increased my exercising and I am hitting all my numbers for protein. I am still having issues with bathroom visits and vitamins making me feel sick to my stomach. On another note, nothing I eat makes me feel sick other than the aforementioned vitamins, no nausea at all from any foods.  I seriously keep asking if I even had the surgery completed because I feel the same. I feel hungry and I FEEL THE SAME as before surgery. I am afraid I am going to be stuck here at 245lbs and not make any more progress. Did I choose the wrong surgery? Should I have done bypass instead of sleeve? Time will tell. Sigh - not a good day for me.

  18. Today I am feeling down in the dumps. I can't believe how much time I've lost and wasted being obese. I got several employment rejection letters in my email and I thought that employers were really active to get people. The only companies interested in me are over the road truck driving jobs and that isn't a lifestyle conducive to good health. I have my Class A CDL and I know truck driving is rough. I am not even a really good driver but they don't seem to care - they just want another person to hold the steering wheel. What can a disabled, middle-aged man do? On the upshot, I am really holding down the soft foods well now, the nausea wave dissipated, and my incisions really look good and healed. I am just too tired to go to the gym today so tomorrow will be the day.

Let me tell you what my surgeon told me and I'm sure you know this by now...it's not a race. Please don't forget to take one day at a time. This is your time and you will succeed. We didn't gain the weight overnight, so don't push it.

We already started talking possible donor eggs, but I'm going to a fertility center in the area to find out more about maybe how much time I have left to decide while that's still a viable option.
