Yes, I took the shots 2x a day for 14 days. My surgeon said that I was a risk for blood clots because of my excess weight, birth control pills, and having surgery. I stopped taking my BC pills one month prior to surgery and resumed them one month after surgery. I had no complications, but was glad for the preventative measures since I have lost two dear friends to a pulmonary embolisms. I did have bruising on my stomach for weeks from the shots and hard spots but I massaged these daily and now, 10 weeks later, everything is fine.

Banded in Dallas since 2006, but have hope again
laz97 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone. I was banded back on Feb 1,2006. My surgeon was fired shortly after my surgery and I have had no one following me since then. I lost 45 lbs on my own but have gained 10 back in the past year. I work for a great hospital (UT Southwestern Medical Center) and a doctor agreed to see me. He took half of my fill out on Friday and has put me on a liquid diet for a week. I can have Water and High Fiber Slim Fast and that's it. I was throwing up a lot and not losing weight, seems I couldn't eat anything. I had pretty much given up on the lap band working, but this dcotor has given me renewed hope. He said my stomach had stretched slightly above the band and that the liquid diet for a week should put everything back to normal. He is gonna treat me as if I had just gotten the lap band. They are gonna work with me on what foods to eat and which ones not to and so forth. So since I have had this for 2 and a half years I got on here cause I thought it would be nice to get some support and share what I know having been banded since 2006. Thanks everyone, Lisa -
I was sleeved 7/13/10... yes less than a month ago and I am down over 50 pounds! Today I stepped on the scale and I was less then 300 pounds for the first time in a long time! Some of the weightloss was pre-op but who cares!!! I am feeling great! Next goal to be 250 by Oct 26th (my 28th birthday!).

Do I get another fill? NEED EXPERIENCED BANDSTER INPUT
MollyRN posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi - I have about 7 or 8 ccs in my 10 cc band. I have been moving along nicely - about 11-14 lbs per month. Last month I did not get a fill because I was still struggling a lot to eat slowly and keep things down. Now I am okay as long as I am VERY SLOW and if I drink something warm before I eat. But I have noticed in the last 10 days, that my weight loss has slowed and I find I am hungry more frequently. I work out a lot and I actually contemplated cutting back a little for a week just to see if the hunger stops. I have a fill appt on January 25 but I am kind of confused and wonder if the experienced out there could give some guidance about these later fills. If I am hungry and the weight loss has slowed, that says FILL, right? But if I often have issues eating at all or keeping things down, I am scared about being any tighter. I try to remember that my surgeon says that PBs are because we make mistakes in eating and chewing, not because the band is too tight (I tell myself this every day when I sit down for one of my hour long attempts at eating). So do I get a fill? In what kind of increment? I am sure my doc will have a recommendation but I wanted some input from the experienced masses Thanks -

Well I drank my first Protein drink and the taste was horrid!! I dnt know what I'm going to do for 10 days:( -
O i was revised to the sleeve on monday the 27th. Thngs have been getting progressivly better with minor setbacks that have left me in the hospital until today, in fact i am going to digning my dc papers. I have been sooooo pleased with vcu health because they really put my health and safety in the forefront. I ahve a couple of issues that maybe some already sleeved can answer. I have been having pain in the center of my chest, kinda like heart pain. It is made worse when i take a deep breath. Thw doctors tested me for pulmonary embolism and heart condition and everything is perfect. I am chalking it up to gas pain but wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this. There is no leak as they have been testing. The fluid from my drain and the pain is reallyo not severe so i convinced the dr to let me go home. I can honestly say that my pain rating throughout my stay never went above 2 and thats because i was out of bed and moving within 10 hours of surgery. And had great pain control. I did have low blood sugar once and after taking so sips of juice it corrected itself. So i just got home and guess what i did....hopped on thw scale and low and behold i am 1 lb heavier than when i went in for surgery. Wtf...i wasnt expecting much but it has been 5 days since surgery and so surely i am not still retaning that much fluid.

I'm So Discouraged And So Disappointed
Calicolea posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery 5/4/12 and I lost weight really well until the dreaded stall began 5/19/12 and unfortunately is still going strong. I was 203 on the 19th and this morning I weighed 204.... my lowest was 202. I've been so good, I've followed my diet, I've increased my exercise, I drink my Water, I'm using Fitnesspal and nothing..... except a BIG FAT ZERO!!!! I was so upset yesterday I had a full blown pity party and pouted the whole day!!!! I'm so discouraged and so disappointed -
Day 10 Post-Surgery -- What Can I Eat In Next Stage?
sooner boomer posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know that everything has to be blended or pureed prior to eating it, but my instructions seem a bit vague on this step. I would appreciate some insight from those who have recently began this phase. Barbi -
Hi, Rahnava... I too was sleeved by Dr. Garcia..Surgery day was April 27.. So far I've lost 55.3 lbs post op, but I lost 16 lbs pre op..for a total of 71 lbs. I completely understand about the 5-6 lb weight gain during TOM. I'm currently going through it right now and its' so frustrating, but even if we're smaller and at our goals this would still happen..I see it as one of the woe's of being a woman.. You'll break out of the 60's I'm sure of it.. I was stuck for about 3 wks at 300 lbs and within 2 days... i literally dropped 4.5 lbs. I upped my workouts and spent more time outside sweating and I believe that helped a lot... I agree with Lauranbob... 60lbs in 6months is awesome! Sure we'd like for it to be more, but I've found that we all lose differently.. I've read on here where some have lost 100 lbs by month 4 but that clearly isn't in the cards for me.. As long as we're losing that's what's important, right? My goal is to lose 9-10 lbs a month. Anything extra is just icing on the cake... Sometimes I've exceeded that and other times like this month I have not.. I've only lost 7.8 lbs for July, but it's 7.8 lbs less on me than before. I have about 100 lbs to loose myself. So I figured 9-10 lbs in a month in a 10 month period is feasible. I don't think I'm reaching for the stars with that amount... We can do this!! Set backs..stall's or whatever you call them are bound to happen.. But as long as we're following the plan we can't lose... Stay encouraged, okay?

16 Day's Post Op No Weight Loss
Morgan W replied to Morgan W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Only 10 pounds? Dr. Said that was ok, guess I should of lost more pre op? Yes, I am getting in my 8 glasses of water a day Thx for your reply! -
Lets see, this week I lost 1 more pound. I really didn't think I'd have lost any due to the fact that it was Mardi Gras and I kinda got off track a bit (darn those adult beverages!) So 46#'s total so far. I did have a Dr.'s appointment (my yearly) He drew some blood (still waiting for results) but after I told him how crummy I have been about taking Vitamins (I know, no lectures please, I know) He gave me that lecture as well. He put me on B-12 injections once a month (have to do them myself...yikes!!) I'm feeling better physically. One thing I noticed in the past week is that I'm able to eat a little more (maybe a bite or 2 more off of 1/2-3/4 c) I am still not really getting hungry, but when its time for me to eat my stomach feels sort of 'weak' don't know if that makes sense, its not a sick feeling, (thanks to switching from Prilosec to Prevacid) My major think I want to work on this month is getting more exercise. I know my weight loss will speed up if I do. Here's my weight loss stats so far. Month 1: lost 26 pounds. Month 2: lost 14 pounds. Month 3: 6 pounds. I'm really ok with losing 5-10 pounds a month. I'd rather lose slowly. But I know I need to begin excersizing. I have been continuing to lose inches though my weight loss has slowed...my hips started at 47" now I'm at 42.5" I need to work out with some weights cause the 'saggies' are settin in! Well, that's about all for now..feeling hopeful and ready to shed the rest of these pounds! Oh, I'm already past my halfway goal! I have about 30 pounds to go!! I know I can do this!! :w00t: All labs are normal!! Yay!!

Help Me Please....life After The Flu
ChrisW123 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI Everyone, Two weeks agao I had the stomach flu and vomited off and on for about 10 hours...of course nothing would come up but It was horrible anyhow. Ever since, I couldn't hardly eat or drink anything and was NEVER hungry. I decided to go to the Dr. and he thought I was swollen around my band because of the pressure from vomiting. He took out 3cc's and I feel great now...except NOW after I eat anything I get a pain right below my port/rib on the left side. What is this? It goes away after about 10-15 minutes??? Is this my food passing through and I can feel it? Am I eating too much? Thanks for your help. -
10 Lbs Down?Very Frustrated
Kate rules replied to skinnygrrlatheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost only 7 pounds between the day I was banded (July 5) and December. Wasn't anything I ate or lack of exercise. My body plateaued at 171 pounds and stayed there for months because my body needed to adjust to the 27 pounds I lost before the surgery. One I got past the plateau, I dropped 10 pounds in a month and a half. And I'm still losing. Believe me, during that 5 month period, I was starting to wonder why I went through all this. But now, I know! 20 pounds to go! -
Worried - too much fluid 3 days post op ?!
Nychkole2 replied to johnsydney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe a quick call in the morning just to make sure! I don't have a lot of advice for you as I'm only 10 days post op. But I wish I could get my fluids in like you! It's not that it's difficult for me getting them down, I think I could definitely drink more. It's just actually doing it that's difficult. -
Eating "Normal" 10 months post op
Pixie Dust replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That makes me happy! Thank you for sharing! I may have my surgery June/July & we're going to Disney World, Dec 18th for 10 days. I keep wondering what I will be eating by then?? Regular (limited) foods, or am I still going to be eating mush? -
Dear body, You sir, are an a*****e. If you are going to act like one, could you use yours more? I dont appreciate being woken up at 6am (after going to bed at 1am) with insistant chatter that now is your time to, ahem, "shine" and to have you get all shy when we get there. This waffling is getting annoying and embarassing. You made us late to work twice last week. I know stomach is being a whiney baby and getting all the attention but that doesnt excuse you from doing your job. And your buddy, brain... Just because colon is all like "tada!" at 6am doesnt mean you need to start with a new round of "what do you think about this". You could have quietly gone back to sleep and made everyone happy. Five hours of sleep might seem all fine and dandy now, but later today everyone is going to be cranky. By the way, could you stop asking for stuff that you know is not an option. I am tired of trying to mediate between you, stomach, bank account and doctor. I know that gourmet grilled cheese on artisan sourdough looks delicious, but bank account is not up for spending $30 fon ingredients for a recipe that stomach will take 3 bites of before whimping out and I dont want to hear another "told you so" from doctor. Bank account hates him too. Last not but not least... stomach. I know you got the raw end of this deal but think of it as taking one for the team. Everyone, well except maybe fat, will be better off in the end. You and I are not on the same page right now, but I trying to learn your new language and how you like to be treated... Give me some time! You have been unreasonably persnickity lately and not like there is a manual. To top it off, you keep changing what some of the rules/signals are and what you like/will tolerate on a day to day basis. Work with me buddy! TLDR: Brain, dont be a d**k. Colon, if you're gonna act like an a*****e, the least you can do is use yours. Stomach, make up your mind. Sincerely, The rest of us at Casa de Queenofthetamazons HW 385 SW 359 CW 335 (50lbs down!) Getting Banded April 16th, Any Tips or Advice?
jenhrvy20 replied to WishUponABand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Steph! Don't be nervous at all. You will not remember a thing. It goes very smoothly and you will do great! The pain is bearable. Not fun, but a lil pain meds will do you just fine. I was actually just banded on 4/7/09. I have already lost 19 lbs. YAY! I take in about 800-1000 calories a day, but that is different for everyone I'm sure. I was directed to take in about 60g of protein a day. Take a good multivitamin and maybe a calcium supplement as well. Your doctor may have already told you this. I like the protein shakes called EAS: Advantage Chocolate Fudge. They taste good and they have 17g of protein with only 110 calories. I am so excited for you!!! I am still learning how to use my band. It is definately a learning process. Good luck and I wish you all the best  -
I'm getting banded today
frannysgirl replied to TatT3d_GirRL's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is the beginning of a new you. I was banded on 11/19/09 and have lost over 60 pounds in five months. I have always made food my best friend. The adjustment to a new way of looking at food is amazing. I wish you so much luck and I am sure you will be successful. Just remember you no longer live to eat, you eat only to live!!:glare::tt2::bored::tt2::sleep::thumbup::thumbup: -
I have not had one instance of food getting stuck since I have had my sleeve, and hope you have the same. I didn't start experiencing any hunger until a week post-op. At that point it was not uncontrollable nor has it been since surgery. I am 10 weeks out.

Hey guys from Western North Carolina!!
Amanda Pearl posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Let's see. My name is Amanda. I have been married for 8 1/2 years, and during that time we have had 4 wonderful kids! My hubby is a pastor, and I stay at home with the babies. I first realized that I had a weight problem when I was about 11 years old. Since then I have pretty much been preoccupied with what size I was. As you know this is rather stressful, and what is my favorite thing when I am stressed? Yeah, chocolate! Oh who are we kidding it doesn't have to be chocolate, any food that's full of salt, sugar, or (and) fat will do:laugh:! Seriously though, it is time that I do something. I have tried every diet under the sun, including chewing for the flavor and then spitting the food out:thumbdown:(it didn't work to well!). I lose weight during most of my diet tries, but then my hunger takes over and I fail and gain, gain, gain. I have been following these posts but not really saying anything for about a year and a half, and now I really think this is the right choice for me. I go for the imformation seminar on 10-21-08 and I am so excited. I hope my insurance accepts me as I will definitely not be able to self pay, but I am handing this to the Lord. If it is His will for me to have this surgery He will pave the way. If any of you have BCBS of North Carolina, did it go well with you? Anyway, I am so excited! I am ready to start my new life! -
Doing a liquid diet 9 mths post op? Is it helpful or useless?
marfar7 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Saw another post about this (actuallt it was about the 5 day pouch test) and it brought up more questions for me: Is our new stomachs stretchable and if so, will doing like 7 to 10 days of liquids bring us back to the restriction I once had? I've read both that u can and can't stretch ur stomach. I've read that since we don't have an actual pouch, the test won't work on us. I've also read that u CAN stretch it and a time of liquids can bring u back (even tho scientifically it sounds impossible that u can shrink the stomach by doing just liquids). If we could shrink our stomachs so easily, why would we have 85% of our stomachs removed in the first place. After a 4 mth stall (I eat the wrong foods in small portions but notice myself becoming hungrier and eating more) I decided to try 7 to 10 days of liquids only to give it a shot (altho I haave doubts that it'll work). Started yesterday. Drank Protein shakes and tomato Soup and literally starved. Coulda eaten my arm yesterday. When I read a couple posts about the liquid diet being unneccessary, I rethought my diet. Then I got on the scale. Lost 3 lbs. Haven't seen the 140's since getting married 2 yrs ago (after which my lapband slipped and I gained 34 lbs). So now I'm a little undecided on what to do. I'm pretty stoked about the loss. My plan is to get to my goal weight (most likely 135-140) and then Ill be able to easily maintain it with my portion control. I've been able to maintain my current weight for 4 mths fairly easily. Not sure what to do now. Advise? And yes, I know I'm sposed to track my food, protein first, lots of Water. So plz don't just give that advise....
