    Three Months

I am a few weeks away from my 3 month anniversary and still struggle with an upset stomach when I eat. I also have the "foamies" and wondered if anyone has found anything that helps with that? I no longer take Tums or Pepto. Should I start with them again? I do take Prilosec daily though. Protein seems to upset my stomach the most. Question: How are you all doing with eating cooked vegetables with skins on them? Should I peel first? I haven't tried any yet and am worried about how my tummy will respond to peelings even though they are cooked. I love me some grilled succinic!

    Affordable personal training

I'm really looking for in person opportunities with weight machines. I am pretty decent with my cardio but have no clue what to do when it comes to weight training. I feel like it'll be beneficial for my metabolism and loose skin. (My arms and legs already look atrocious can't wait for maintenence so I can get everything sliced off lol) I guess I could look up weight training videos and bring them to the gym! WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Mine was August 23rd. I lost 100lbs and feeling so much better. Still have a little gut, but doctor said it is mostly skin. I’ve been using a virtual training app called Future. It’s been great. Haven’t been doing much cardio lately though. I want to get back to jogging. I am not trying to lose more weight I just want to stay healthy and tone up now.

Getting ready to have this surgery

Most do really well and since its a tool some have better weight loss than others. My Dr told me it is not uncommon for some to lose 30 lbs in the first month post op but again depends on the person and the circumstances. I am 3 weeks post op and have only lost 14 lbs. I struggle or I should say my body does with letting loose of the excess weight. I am however losing inches everywhere. so thats a positive.

    May 2022 surgery?

I wore crocs, a loose t-shirt, and sweat pants. You have to change out of them anyway, but it helps to have something that won’t rub against your skin when you come out.

    I'm struggling losing weight

I have not lost anything in a full 3 weeks!! Im so aggravated beyond measure! I lost I think 22 lbs fast before surgery. after surgery (May 3rd) by day 9 I was down another 14 lbs. Nothing since not a single pound. In fact I go back and forth with gain a pound then lose the pound. It is very frustrating to say the least. My team tells me I hit an early plateau after 9 days.. because I lost 36 lbs quickly. But dang lol 3 weeks out and still nothing. Now all that being said I cannot exercise much because I am pending a knee replacement as far as walking goes. I used to tell myself it was because of that but the 22 lbs I lost pre surgery I did not exercise either. So unfortunately for me I have to suck it up and trust the process and hope for the best at this point. I am very discouraged tho to say the least. It wears on me pretty heavily. I do notice clothes fitting loose and my boobs have took a big hit to my husbands dismay lol. Thighs and hips also are seeing inches coming off but that darn scale doesnt move lol

    2 1/2 yrs. Post op

Thank you for answering. Went to Dr. it was an extract oil I had started taking. Dr. Said to take at night instead of morning. Relieved not associated with surgery. Other then this incident I have had great success with my surgery. Very happy I did it and worth every uncomfortable moment in the beginning. I am down 3 sizes, lost 75 pounds, feel so much better. Dr. said if I had surgery to get rid of excess skin I'd loose another 5-7 pounds. Due to limited movement from an injury, I am considering it, as I am unable to do the great workouts I use to do. I still see myself as an overweight, obese person. But everyone tells me how great I look. Went to three weddings recently, I look at the photos, cannot believe I see the person in the photo!! It's me and I look damm good!! Keep the faith and you will succeed!! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    May Surgery Buddies

So i had my gastric bypass done last Thursday 26th May. I had it done under the nhs (i live in the UK) but the actual op was done by my nhs surgeon at a private hospital to help get through the waiting lists left from covid. The surgery i have been told but the whole ordeal was horrific. I was treated like a piece of meat. No one spoke to me to explain what they were doing etc. It took 7 attempts to do a simple eeg before theatre in which they ripped the pads off many times causing my skin to break open and bleed.. ouch. They then all be run me to theatre when i was manhandled onto the operating bed (I'm disabled) where the private theatre staff just grabbed my arms and legs pulling in all directions strapping them in things. No one once spoke to me to explain what they were doing. I was terrified. The next thing i knew the man said I'm putting you to sleep now. I wanted to scream STOP YOU'RE NOT OPERATING ON ME but i was so scared no voice came out. Once awake i was taken to a private room and basically left. They didnt even give me a buzzer to call the nurse. I was discharged less than 24 hours after surgery in absolute agony and scared out of my mind. I have never felt so alone and afraid before in my life. It has left me feeling extremely anxious and frightened have have made the wrong decision. My dietitian just rang me for 4 mins basically saying she had email me my diet plans... no nurse from the team has phone me yet but i was told this would happen on my 1st day home... completely unexceptable

    Regrets ?

almost 2 months out. No not really. Yea it sucks that i really cant go to mcdonalds and grab 2 double cheeseburgers and a large fries or a large meat lovers pizza anymore lol. But other than that i find it was worth it as long as i continue to loose weight.

    Dreaded hair loss - question

Um, nothing you put *onto* your scalp will ever stop hair loss because that's not how it works. Hair is dead keratin-based stuff, like fingernails. Your scalp skin is an organ with many jobs to do. How on earth would bathing that scalp skin in anything after hair has already extruded from the scalp help it not fall out? It's what is going on at the roots (or what went on there many weeks ago actually) that determines that I had been so happy not to have lost hair after my surgery but this week it has been falling out in handfuls. I've had this many times in the past after doing VLCDs etc. It's annoying but it'll grow back eventually. I hope that everyone who has a hard time with this (for whatever reason) sees it pass very soon xxx

    Just not feeling it

Hi yes it's normal for some of us, at this stage eating was like having to do a chore I didn't want to do. It does get better this is the phase we're you loose the most weight (the first 6 months) so take full advantage of it. I ate foods that were easy and tasted good to get me interested in eating. If eating is causing you discomfort go back to your previous stage but really you should be able to eat without to much discomfort.

    3 week stall

TBH you are doing so well. 40lbs is a lot of weight to loose and you are on the right track. You should not change anything that your team has set for you. My dietician explained bariatric weight loss like a staircase. For every down step there is a flat step. If you track your food, { I use My Fat Secret UK} you know that you are in a calorie deficit. You can not fail. I am lucky if I manage 850 a day but I have had a difficult time since surgery. So am a little behind my peers. I once had a 5 week stall that had me worrying but the good people here put me right. Onwards and downwards.

    Is this a real stall?

Sorry I do not have much experience to offer help but wanted to comment.. I do not know how everyone else is loosing but I have a very toxic relationship with the scale, I have been told to stay away from it but I cannot resist to step on every morning. The evil thing does not change, I have 3 different scales because I thought the first one could be damaged but seems like it is not. I have a reading on a given day and it only changes a couple of ounces back and forth for days or even weeks but then, when the scale decides I can see changes of 3 or even 4 pounds, I do not understand it I think is too much change for one day. Each time I read about stalls I think I live constantly in stall mode. Lately the stalls are longer and the changes are smaller only 1 or 2 pounds I understand that as the time gos by it will be slower to loose weight. This is confusing for me, when I used to do my diets before I could see the weight changing gradually but not this time...

    PreOp Diet Struggles

Thank you....I have been reading some of the comments on the forum, I have gotten inspiration from here. I am trying to stick to a low carb diet so that I can loose a little extra weight before surgery, but I continue to struggle. I never go over my original start weight but I can't seem to go lower than 142 and then go back up. It's so frustrating! Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. So I discovered I have a brand spanking new allergy to shellfish. I had a weird rash on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't figure it out, and then Wednesday it hit me. I started taking my krill oil supplement again (I always took it before with no issues at all, and my surgeon recommended it again once I hit 3 weeks post op). So since there had never been any issues with it in the past, I didn't even consider it an issue when the rash started. Anyway, on Wednesday I remembered it and decided to take it out of my pills and see how things go. Lo and behold, no rash. No redness, no itching, nothing. So I looked it up and the rash/hives are part of an allergic reaction to shellfish (and krill oil pills are made from krill which are shellfish). I read those allergies can happen at any time, but when they do, you always need an epi pen with you because the more times it happens, the worse the reactions will be, and a shellfish allergy is one that never goes away, no matter when it starts. I reached out to my primary doctor and she is having me come in for blood work and a skin test for allergies. She's also prescribing me an epi pen, because the 2nd time I took the supplement my tongue was tingly and numb and my throat felt a little tight for a bit. Has this happened to anyone? I've never had a food allergy ever in my life, and now I suddenly get a big one? What the heck???

    Fleur-de-Lis or Panniculectomy?

You could ask about a panneculectomy and add on abdominplasty. That would address upper abdomen skin with out the vertical scar….
  20. Julie1292

    Panniculectomy worth it?

It is typically performed by a plastic surgeon but for insurance reasons it’s considered a medical treatment. Lots of loss skin can cause back pain and rashes. Same way a breast reduction is often considered medical for the same reasons. I am going to have a panniculectomy for medical reasons (rash and back pain) paid by insurance. My surgery will be done by a plastic surgeon.
  21. No I have no issues with it or even cooking for them. I was very healthy and a vegan when I met my meat eating husband 21 years ago. Our first date was to a steak house. I was a vegan from age 5 to 33 by choice (was raised on a cattle ranch and when my pet steer was butchered I refused to eat meat not wanting to wanting him - long story) My husband loves food and bad food. I realize now out marriage was centered around eating. I love the fact now I can say hey I cant eat this or that or out because of my surgery. When Id do that all these years he would get mad at me and upset. Addicts like to have others indulge with them. I went from 125 to 240 in 21 years of marriage. Today I am 176 I had the sleeve on Dec 22, 2021 at 227.9. So I feel better than ever and I am starting to feel like me again. I cant wait to be able to eat full vegan again Now I can go back to the lifestyle I love without being guilted into eating unhealthy. Ive noticed more energy my skin looks amazing Im back at the gym running 3 miles a day until yesterday when I broke a bunch of bones in my foot. So think of it like this - eating is just fuel for this amazing body you have. Like your car - you put good gas in it youd never give it sugar water right because that would ruin the engine. Your body is the same way - enjoy the beautiful healthy foods and feed your body and cells the right fuel. I have teenagers that work they stop at fast food nearly daily It is nice to say Ill wait to eat when we get home. I never leave without a protein shake and the money I save now on food is crazy! Even my husband comments on that. So my protein shakes from 310 Nutrition may be expensive but cheap compared to the before me. I spend $3-5 a day for me on food. My husband eats fast food daily and spend nearly $10 on a meal that is literally killing him. Thats how I see it and it makes me skip and smile. Self love - just rewire your thinking habits and seriously it wont be hard 99% of the time.

    Dreaded hair loss - question

We are surgery buddies!! Same here Im 53 Ive had some but I also have thyroid disease so i “shed” a few times a year lol. I take a Vitamin 2 x a day just for hair, skin and nails. Im down 51-52 pounds my Surgeons goal was to loose 70. My goal is 80-100 so im close to his expectations. I find that taking that extra vitamin as soon as you can tolerate them is a game changer. My sister had bypass 25 years ago she refuses to take any Vitamins. She is nearly bald. I did the sleeve, I took vitamins before surgery so it isnt a nee habit for me just what I take changed. I have always taken in what I am supposed to for protein and water it is a vitamin deficiency because we eat so little food - especially in the beginning which is probably why people see it slow down as they are out more. So get a good hair nail and skin vitamin youll be happy you did!!
  23. Weren’t you advised you shouldn’t take NSAIDS any more? Because our tummy is so small now the side effects of NSAIDS, like ibuprofen, are exacerbated (like they’re concentrated in our tummy) putting you at a greater risk of ulcers, reflux, etc. I took NSAIDS before surgery for headaches, back pain, etc. as I found other over the counter pain relief didn’t work. My surgeon advised, after he removed my gall (25months after my sleeve surgery), I could take a NSAID very occasionally: one tablet & no more. I was not to take them every day nor take them regularly. Generally applying a gel/cream NSAID topically, directly to your skin, is okay as it does not go through your digestive system though I have heard of a surgeon even saying no to that. Have a chat with your surgeon.

Insight/thoughts for someone considering sleeve surgery

I think skin removal is possible with insurance but very unlikely. I had insurance cover my surgery but my plan specifically states that no skin removal, regardless of stated medical necessity, will be covered. That’s not an uncommon provision. Regardless, I’d focus on the weight loss and related surgery at this point. Many people lose the weight and never have skin removed. If I didn’t have the funds for it I wouldn’t stress over it, and I’ve lost almost 180 lbs so I def have extra skin. I’ve posted a pic of me in a swimsuit, however, and even then it’s not that overt.

    Protein powder

Collagen is not a complete protein, meaning it does not have all of the essential amino acids. Additionally, the amino acid profile makes it great for hair, skin, nail, and joint heal, but not at all beneficial for lean muscle mass. Most dietitians recommend that collagen NOT be counted towards your daily protein intake. By all means keep using it, I do everyday! But know that it is a dietary supplement and not a protein source. Plain protein supplements generally will NOT have vitamins because they are just that, PROTEIN. They are made for one thing, and that is to provide a supplementary source of protein. Some pre-made shakes do have added vitamins and minerals, which is great, but most bariatric patients will need to keep taking a multivitamin for the rest of their lives to care for potential deficiencies. A vitamin that meets the ASMBS recommendations should care for any vitamins & minerals you need, and anything you get from your protein shakes is a bonus!
