Surgery In Mexico Monday...
Colin replied to Shannalee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pam, The facility I had my done in gave me about 10 names of doctors who do fills for their patiences within an hour or two drive from where I live. Addionally, there was a company called FILLS USA (or something like it) whose doctors will do your fills, even though the company is no longer in existence. Colin -
Surgery In Mexico Monday...

I was banded by Dr Ortiz on 10/28, so about 3 months ago now! He, and his staff, are incredible! I love them all. The nurse doesn't really speak English, but she is extremely sweet and motherly, Dr Martinez and Dr Ortiz are both awesome, I woke up from surgery to Dr Ortiz standing over me, unstrapping my arms and I felt wonderful, I said "I love you" in my drugged stupor, and he said "I love you too" haha! Anyway, going back down there for my first fill in just a couple weeks, I waited longer than they say for the fill, but I felt fine and was still losing weight so... I did call them a couple of times with concerns after I got home, and they ALWAYS got back to me promptly and were extremely nice and concerned. I stayed in the hotel for 4 nights, three of them after the surgery, and the ride home still sucked (i'm in Vegas, so we drove). I would suggest staying a few nights at the very least. I'm flying back to San Diego for the fill. I just cannot say enough good things about Dr Ortiz, the lap band, and the entire experience so far. -
How Many Ounces of Food at Four Months Gastric Sleeve?
RobertaMSN replied to pghmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My guidelines are 3 oz of protein with 1 oz vegetable for lunch and dinner (as FluffyChix says below, by volume), and a green smoothie for breakfast (but very little fruit), supplementing with up to two protein shakes to get enough protein. Dr. Duc C. Vuong on YouTube says when able, try to make the veg at either lunch or dinner a small salad cut into very small bites - haven't gotten to the point of trying it yet and imagine it's more than 1 oz.. He says to watch the protein amount - too much is just as bad as too little and it depends on how active we are and if we did anything extra such as go on a long, hard hike. He also cautions against relying on protein shakes and to pick high protein foods for meals. I've been following his advice and taking very small bites, then chewing at least 20 times before swallowing - essentially making everything into a soft food. So far, so good. Apparently everything must be moist. He says patients "push their sleeve" one extra bite per meal, so to be mindful of stopping when satisfied and to question each bite "Do I need this?" There's debate as to whether or not it actually can stretch, but he says the body adjusts to tolerate more food and has seen patients back up to eating a large plate of food at a time and it's junk food - and regain the weight. Bear in mind I'm new - only got mine on Dec. 2, 2019. But so far, so good. I've learned a great deal from Dr. Vuong - more than from my nutritionist in the program. -
How Many Ounces of Food at Four Months Gastric Sleeve?
FluffyChix replied to pghmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the day. Haha. In the early days, I ate 4-6 times per day. Now days I do a complicated rotation. It's the way I maintain my weight. This morning I was 129.4lbs--a Christmas Miracle I'm waiting to see if it sticks or not! If it does yay, if it doesn't I won't be devastated). But I'm at the bottom of a maintenance window I would not be sad to reduce by another 5 lbs to my BDG Goal = Barbie Dream Girl Goal. So it's business as usual for a Thursday for me = Meal 1: B1 - 3 protein lattes with 1oz of Premier Protein + 7 drops Vitacost Liquid Stevia + Decaff + ground cinnamon 1 cup tea (green decaff tea + Earl Grey decaff tea + 1 shot of unfiltered ACV + 1 lemon wedge + cayenne + ground cinnamon) Meal 2 (optional): B2 - I will either eat around 10-11 or I will skip if not hungry. Meal 3: L-Big Ass Salad (1 1/2-2c of salad + 2-3oz dense lean protein + 2-3tbsp Zero Cal Dressing + 1 serving healthy fat (I will eat this until full. Sometimes it's the whole thing and sometimes I finish the balance as my afternoon snack) OR Turkey Cheese Rollup with raw greens and veggies OR Green Soup OR Green Smoothie with fiber OR Can of Sardines and Raw Veggies Meal 4 (optional and regulated by hunger): AS-Either leftovers from lunch OR cup of Herb OX no sodium broth + baby greens + mushrooms OR 1 hardboiled egg OR 3-5 oz of raw veggies + 1/4c fat free Greek Yogurt Dip (Tzaziki, Ranch, Onion, Asian) Meal 5: D-3oz protein + 1-2oz veg + 1oz avo/1oz tom + 1 serving healthy fat or extra cheese Meal 6 (optional and regulated by hunger): BS-usually a decaff + 1oz Premier Protein OR 1-2oz underripe GS Apple or pear + 1tbsp nut butter OR 14g walnuts or almonds OR 1 square 90% Lindt Chocolate + 14g walnuts or almonds -
Finally did a full protein day
Margater replied to LifeIsAllGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is my 4th day post-op. Yesterday I tried to get down with 60g of protein. I made it to about 10. The acid reflux is killing me and I just couldn't keep going. I used to always hate feeling of having nothing but protein shakes. They taste good, but the after-feeling/taste in my mouth is awful. Anyone got advice for that. Going to try to hit 30g protein today. -
Weight loss starts when?
catwoman7 replied to linzcarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep. Water weight from the IV fluids. I've heard of some people gaining 10 or more lbs from it. It takes a few days for it to work it's way out of your system. In the mean time, if it's stressing you out, then just stay off the scale for a few days. -
Hm. You probably don't need to hear from me then. But I will respond.....I get stuck a LOT. I was just stuck previous to coming on here about 10 minutes ago (thankfully it has passed, and you can definitely feel it has passed). I kind of consider myself a pro at it now (not something to be proud of I'm sure.....) I felt the same way; it was the major issue before having the surgery. It sounded horrible. And the first time I got stuck I felt like I was dying (mostly I think because I had never been before, and was so nervous). I couldn't get it up for a bit (I think it was toast and tomato) and I was in such pain. Above, I do NOT take any Water if I'm stuck, because it's just piling on top of a stuck pile. I do find the papaya enzyme pills help (in the Vitamin section); they are chewables and taste sweet. They helped me a lot when I was first banded, and I do carry some everywhere with me now. HOWEVER - don't let it scare you too much. As you said, yes it is because I often still eat too fast/too big bites after 1.5 years. And now it is nothing, just lean over the sink and cough. The pros of the surgery outweigh this con, I think!

Everything makea me nausueous
shelbyschroepfer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm cleared for puréed and soft foods as of Monday and Monday night I had amazing baked grouper and green Beans which went DOWN good but I felt pressure nausea all night. Then I had a wedge of laughing cow cheese, that went down great and no problems later. Had a ton of Popsicles because they cause no problems either, liquids all go down even orange juice. Tried tuna casserole minus noodles yesterday, tuna, cream of Soup and cooked peas. Very soft very mushy, and the first bite made me nauseous. No throwing up just dizzy/gurgly ick. Then I tried cottage cheese (my favorite!!!!) tastes very blah so I just wasn't interested in it, going to try later with added flavor. And right now I'm trying to eat chicken noodle soup (was okay'd by my doc as long as I mush the noodles in my mouth and not swallow whole) and I can't get over this dizzy tummy feeling. I haven't eaten ANYTHING but a glass of Water and a Popsicle today since 6 am. It's now 1:20pm. I KNOW I'm feeling partial hunger pains because they go away when I eat. But I can't push past this nausea to satisfy myself because I don't want to throw up. SW: 324 DOSW: 322 CW: 309 surgery date-7/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST -
Sleeved on the 17
CarolinaCutie replied to ladyd728's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand your pain! I was sleeved on the 20th. I wasn't expecting to be in so much pain. I've had a c-section and a hysterectomy, but the sleeve hurt the worse. When I awoke from surgery, they asked me my pain level and I replied 10! And then I was so nauseated, I couldn't tolerate liquids and had to stay an extra day in the hospital. It was rough. I'm on day 3 now and reading these boards helps me because I know I'm not alone -

Size 8 will be perfect for me. That is the goal ii set for me. My doc told me 115 pounds. I said to him no way. I would not be able to maintain that weight ..and I will prob be sick. -
I had this. My research revealed it can also be nerves healing. My pain was gone from my surgery then I got this burning tearing pain around week 2.5-3. It lasted 10 or so days.

PLEASE EXCUSE THE LONG POST :( Hi all. I had my first VSG consultation on 4/19/2018. My surgeon told me I would need to lose 100lbs during my pre-op stage (6 months required by insurance co) and prescribed phentermine. I lost 20lbs in 2 weeks but it gave me terrible side effects (depression, suicidal thoughts, insomnia) so I quit. At that point I was faced with calling my surgeon and asking for something else and I never did it. The week following that I tried intermittent fasting and lost another 10lbs. Then, foolishly, I thought to myself just as I had a million times before, “I can do this myself!” And when it came time for my next appointment, I didn’t go. I didn’t call and cancel, I didn’t reschedule, I just. didn’t. go. I was struggling very hard with the idea of ever telling my family. My sister Kayla lost all her weight through diet and exercise and has kept most of it off for years and years and would NEVER support the idea of me have surgery. She has my dad’s ear and he would listen to whatever opinion she had about it. I live with my dad and he’d always thought if I would just exercise more and eat less the weight would fall off. I hate myself for not going to that appointment. If I had persevered, I’d be sleeved by now and well on my way to my new life but instead I gave up. The fad diet again proved unsuccessful and I put all the weight back on and then some. I’ve been lost these past nine months trying to figure out what to do and then last week Kayla was home visiting and she handed me a stack of papers. She had gone to a WLS seminar, my skinny sister, and taken pages upon pages of notes. She had done research. She had prepared a speech to tell me it’s time for me to do something about this. Y’all, I CRIED. So now, tomorrow, I’m scheduling another consultation and I’m DOING THIS. I FINALLY have my family’s full support and most of all I’m ready. I’m ready to stop making excuses. I’m ready to stop saying no to going to certain restaurants because I can’t fit in their booths. I’m ready to stop telling my friends that the reason I can’t go to the amusement park is because I get sick on rollercoasters when the reality is that I don’t fit. I’m ready to stop saying no to vacations that require flight. I’m ready to stop researching weight limits on everything I buy. I’m ready to have a LIFE. I have never known what’s it’s like to be a normal weight. Not ever. I’m not delusional, I KNOW this will be one of the hardest things I’ll ever do but it will be so worth the struggle. I’m looking forward to sharing this journey.

My surgery date is July 10. Like everyone else I have so many feelings right now. But, I have lost 7 pounds from this pre op diet!

I am pre-op for bypass on 10/28. As part of the process, I had to do a stomach emptying study, and it showed that my stomach clears it’s contents faster than normal. This isn’t a problem, if it emptied slow it would be. My question is, has anyone else had this and does this mean I may have an easier time getting my water in post-op?

I am going to see my surgeon today. I was banded on 1/26 and this appt. is for my second fill. I wonder if I should have one. Last time he inserted 2 cc's in a 10 cc band. What a difference this made! I had definite restriction on quantities and types of foods. I would say I must have pb'd 3 times a week during the first two weeks post-fill. It was my adjustment to my adjustment period. During the last week, I have only had one issue and that was because the meat was too dry, I was tired and ate too quickly. Anyway, is it typical to get a second fill so soon? I am still able to eat a decent amount of food, slowly, chewed well. I would say I can still eat about 5-6 oz of Protein and at least that amount of starch/vegetable. I have read several postings that indicate they can only eat 5 - 6 bites at a sitting and then have to stop. Is that the restriction I should be looking for? I hate to think that an additional fill may make me pb again! I suppose I will just get used to being more restricted? Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Karen

I too was banded 5/19. I am currently waiting for my husband to come home and help me shower... Thinking of coming off the percocet and going to motrin.

I'm hoping to get banded in early October or so.... This should give me plenty of time to get over the initial pain etc.. for our November 15th opening of rifle season! I was with my husband last year when he got a monster 8 point. This buck was huge - bigger than most of the 10 + pointers on the pole! My turn!

October surgery friends??
ann2472 replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Meganatorthat's awesome!!! I've lost 80 total since March 2021, surgery was October and since then I have lost 66. 12# to goal for me, but I feel like you. See what my body does. Weight loss has slowed considerably but I'm feeling great. Not sure if size 10 pants will be where I get-it was a wish but 12s are fitting pretty well most of the time so that's good with me! Health is improved and hope to continue. Congratulations to you! -
Pre -Op from my TT I called the surgeon back. Between the one in surgery before me and me - He came back to my room and re-marked me as I was worried that when I leaned forwards the belly would still hang and be loose. He agreed and re-marked me and I am so glad he did. So make sure you are happy pre-op and make sure he knows what you want - Yes they cannot do miracles (I think they can to be honest) and my PS said to have 'realistic expectations' but then he gave me the world - and more..... Just make sure he knows what you want - You could take a picture with you of someone whose belly you like and show him what you are wanting, maybe..... Oh and..... Importantly..... Wear a pair of the lowest cut panties! I did not do this and now that scar is not as low as I would like it... That is the only thing I would change if I could go back in time..... Me not long after surgery... I think this was in approx Aug/Sept 2010... And me recently on 24 Aug 2015... (Excuse the marks from the elastic trousers lol) My scar is still a bit raised - I did not massage the scar as well as I should have and also - I did not wear the Micropore tape as long as I would do now - Knowing so much more now than I did all those years ago..... In another Op I wore the paper tape (Micropore tape) for 10-12 weeks and that scar is soooo much better than this one - So I would tell anyone who has a scar - KEEP that paper tape ON! It supports the scar and stops it from stretching as much when healing..... You will be left with a much flatter and finer scar if you keep your paper tape on and also stay in compression garments for as long as you can - This is a one time journey you are making hopefully so to stay in compression for 10-12 weeks as it is an investment in the future you..... :-) Good Luck - You will be fine - Keep those eyes on the prize and that prize is a New Youuuuuu! <3
