    Just so confused...

you're just in a stall. Stick to your program and it will pass. Your Protein *is* a little low, though - most RNY patients are supposed to get a minimum of 60 grams.
  2. Im also 4 weeks out and have been stalled for close to two weeks. I can't give encouragement yet but I can sit and hold your hand and we'll wait together for the numbers to drop.

    Disappointed

I wouldn't be too disappointed as you're ahead of the one pound per week estimate that my surgeon suggests is typical. Congrats on the weight loss.

    Feeling restriction??

I was the same way..I have had 3 fills and after the 3rd I finally had restriction...however, the really good restriction only lasted about 2 weeks than I was able to eat more again. after my 3rd fill I had a total of 7ccs in 10 cc band. My doctor told me most people start feeling restriction at around 7cc's. I still can eat close to 2 cups before feeling full. It depends on what I eat..somedays I feel more restriction than others and some meals I can eat more than other meals..I havnt figured it out yet. I got banded july 29th. before my 3rd fill and for the first few months after surgery I had no restriction! and it sucked! Im waiting for my 4th fill which is scheduled on Jan. 11th. I think this fill will get me at my sweet spot,at least I am hoping. I do get stuck occasionally now and can't eat a ton of food but I still can eat more than the half cup they reccomend. You will get there...before my 3rd fill I was freaking thinking I had 6cc with no restriction and that I may never get there ...but I thikn now with each fill I will feel a little more. I asked my doctor what happens when I get to 10cc?? and he said "not be able to drink water"..lol..so not saying everyone is like that but you may not feelgood restriction until closer to your max.

    So much pain...

Hi I am 6 weeks out and also having a hard time drinking. It feels like I swallowed a rock. I only take small sips and same results.Warm tea and broth is a lot easer. I was told by a freind that had the sleeve that it gets better with time.
  6. I was sleeved on 3/11 and I feel the same way, all those feelings, LOL! Trying to sit down and eat with my family is what I miss the most and I think it is hard to train all my relatives that when we get together it doesn't have to be food related. But all in all I am glad I've done this and I am loving stepping on the scale every morning (something I haven't loved ever.)
  7. I was sleeved 3\21 and I agree that it's just learning how to figure out how much the sleeve can take. I do get discomfort when I eat fast or too much food. I used to think about food 24/7 and now I need to remind myself to eat. My daily goals are my protein and water quotas. Not drinking while eating and waiting to drink is hard...one day at a time.

    Good Advice...

My Visa debit card is my right hand gal. On the back I've written "SEE ID". It never ceases to amaze me when people flip it over, read that, and hand it right back w/o asking for ID. And worse - when someone does ask for ID, they're so timid - like they expect it will make me mad. Carlene, that's great advice. Here's something else to watch out for. This isn't one of those "tell all your friends" email mass hysterias, this actually happened to me. We bought something at a store that will go unnamed. In retrospect we could remember making the purchase, but not thinking twice about it. Anyway - what happened was that the clerk swiped the card, and the transaction didn't go through. So he swiped the card at another reader and it went through just fine, end of story. Haha. I'm really bad about following up with our account, I know more is coming in than going out, so I just don't pay any attention. We use online banking and every few weeks I'll scan the transactions just to make sure everything looks OK, taht refunds were credited, etc. Well I go to scan, and see a lot of unexplained transactions, and by "a lot of unexplained" I mean over $4k worth of porn subscriptions. Sites for pedophilia, beastiality, snuff, etc. So I call our bank, and they launch an investigation. Ends up, I guess this isn't all that uncommon (from what the bank told us) that people get jobs as store clerks to have access to customers/credit/debit cards. They bring in their own "bogus" scanners that do nothing other than record the information from the swiped card. So the customer goes to buy something, they swipe it once into their recorder, "Oops, doesn't look like that transaction went through" (they've just captured all of your information), "let's try it again on this reader, that one might be broken" (on the actual store scanner that will go through). Our bank was awesome and they credit the money back, no questions asked, but I know there are people out there with online banking who are worse about checking it than me. One lesson learned we took away from this is that we now limit the amt of money we keep in checking. On payday X amount is automatically transferred into savings (we've always done that), X amout is automatically transferred into what we call "liquid savings" - savings for purchases, taxes, vacations, whatever... not real savings, just a way to store up money we know we will spend eventually), and X is automatically transferred into investments, and the rest goes into our checking. Now I keep a max of 4k in checking unless I know I'm going to make a big purchase. I'll check every few weeks and if we're over that, I'll transfer to one of the other accounts. I talk to my friends who keep 100% of their cash assets in their primary checking account, and I share my story with them, and usually they change their ways. We had ewnough to cover the fraudulent purchases, but if we hadn't, all of our bills are done on autopay, and that means everything from our cable bill to our mortgage could have bounced. That means lots of penalties, fees, and the potential for credit impact.

    pre-op diet, day 2

@ nailed it. I had a long post-op liquids phase by most standards (6 weeks), after a five day clear liquids pre-op. Talk about cleansing your system. It was hard, but doable. I'm glad it's over, but grateful for the benefits it gave me.

    Corticosteroid

They'd prefer you not to do it within a time frame before or after surgery, so call your surgeon's office and be sure to ask them when you can do it and not interfere with surgery schedule. Also, make sure to eat low carb for about a week before and at least a week or 2 after to minimize any weight gain from the steroid. It will help you not overeat. "They" say it won't cause weight gain/munchies but they are lying liars that lie. I've had many steroid shots and if I don't do that, I'm guaranteed a 4lb gain. At 3 years post op though, you should be fine...but still call to be sure with your program.
  11. it's the infamous "three-week stall". If you do a search on this site for it, you will literally find over 15,000 posts on it. Almost everyone has that. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. It typically lasts 1-3 weeks. Your weight loss WILL start up again. And just so you know, you're likely to go through several of these on your journey.
  12. I am doing ok. I get frustrated at times because I eat and sometimes food makes my stomach hurt. I guess some food I can't tolerate. Sometimes I don't want to eat at all. Sometimes I get so hungry I feel like I can eat a horse, then when I try I eat so fast and get too full and the comes the slimies and I feel awful. Sometimes I don't feel the fullness until it's too late. Guess I'm still learning my sleeve and how much it can tolerate. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever feel "normal" again. Sometimes I feel that I shouldn't have done it. But the good news us I have lost 30 lbs since surgery 43 in total. i am at 240 now. It's pretty awesome. I didn't have any significant problems after surgery so I am not complaining. I just feel different but thats the point right. Change. I am still learning.

    Six Weeks Post

Hey Kaze.... at 6 weeks i had lost 28 pounds... but i am considered a "lightweight" so weightloss is slower But it also depends on your starting weight, age, metabolism, how long you have been yoyo dieting etc. I am assuming you are on the pre op diet now if your surgery is on Tuesday .... how much have you lost so far? What is starting weight?
  15. @AussieGirl8 I don't notice, tbh about the breath thing. It seems normal to me. I've taken to brushing more than I used to, so... lol. I had planned on being type 1. Weighing in every Saturday or so. Only track it once a week. I've got Fit Journey. Can't track Water or food on it (unless I make it a "comment"). I'll probably either do that or find something better. My dad has good advice and that's why I like this app, but he says I should "track the trend". I shouldn't care about the numbers as long as the trend is generally going down. This one just shows a very simple graph and I like it for that.

    Chewed A Mint..

I was taking pills 3 days post op and having sugar free candy since about day 5. No issues

    Chewed A Mint..

I was taking pills (several) from the day after the surgery, no issues. I wouldn't worry. We all get different advice depending on the surgeon and NUT. I did not even have a period of clears, was on pureed from day 3, and softs at 2 weeks. Had my first scrambled egg today! No problems. I suspect the over cautious approach of some physicians is connected to liability issues and insurance requirements.
  20. Today was my 2 week check up from my revision. I am so happy that I am down 12 lbs!! I am very excited about this. I also get to start back on my Zumba class and lifting weights to music class next week. It is strange I am feeling the need to do more of that type of exercise than I am of walking.

    Loosing too fast?

it'll slow down. I had a big drop the first month, then it's been like 2-3 lbs a week. Plus like many, you may hit the "three week stall" soon where you won't lose anything for a week or two....

    feeling guilty

Be careful with bread/doughy products - even at 6 weeks out, they're tough to "swallow!"

    Thinking About Cancelling Surgery

lotstolose... I am having surgery on the same day! I too am a nervous wreck plus this 2 week liquid diet is killing me! I keep thinking if this part is so hard, how will I do the rest?

    Thinking About Cancelling Surgery

It wasn't that strange to write the letters but it was very emotional. I didn't bother with a will because everything that I have is under both mine and my husband's name and no one would ever challenge him on anything. Our only child is 2 and he would obviously remain her Daddy. The letters were just all my input on things he needed to remember while raising a little girl. They are things I would have said anyway, just spread out over years that I was concerned I wouldn't have. My husband found them and got worried and started researching the things that could go wrong while in surgery and seeing as how I had undergone anesthesia 3 times before in the previous 2 years and never had any issues and weighed more than I did this time for the RNY he relaxed. He didn't criticize me for needing to write them to give myself piece of mind, but he told me that he had faith that I would make it through the surgery and I was so thankful to have him waiting for me in my hospital room when I came out of recovery. If they will give you peace of mind, write them. Just know, it tugs hard on your heart strings. Best of luck in your surgery!

    any loss of energy?

The truth is that yes you will have some energy loss in the very beginning of your journey. While you are on the 2 week liquid diet before and perhaps after surgery. You will feel a bit tired and drag a little as your body detoxes from the "junk" foods and starts to adapt to eating high Protein and quality food. After surgery we are all tired for a bit, we just had major surgery. Once you heal up and your body has adjusted your going to feel amazing and have so much more energy provided you keep your nutrition up and follow your doctors recommended nutrition plan including any Vitamins they may tell you to take. Over all your going to feel better once you lose some pounds.
