    Should I care?

I'm looking at your picture, Babs... I put one up on my corkboard at work with Vera and Penni and Sachi wearing that boa. You don't even look like an overweight women. I don't care what society or doctors say, our bodies know what they are doing when we're eating right. If you are really staying under 1200 calories a day, I don't think you need another fill. I've only had one fill so far, but I never want to be somebody that relies on fills when the weightloss slows down. I realize the band was designed to hold saline that gives us restriction, but like we've heard a thousand times, it's only a tool. If you still have willpower to stick under 1200 calories, then use what God gave you. My problem is that I'm almost into this journey six months, yet I haven't corrected all my bad eating habits. I have some good band days. And I have tons and tons of "good" meals (lunch doesn't seem to be a problem, and I rarely snack at work like I used to do all day long.) But I still have times that I mini-binge at night. I still often make poor choices. But for me, it's progress, not perfection. I don't think you should worry about any numbers. You're weight loss simply has to slow down considering you don't weigh much anymore. Nice to see your smiling face... Chris says hi to everyone.

    I am new here...

Hey Charlotte, welcome to LBT! Oh yes, things will be very different with the band. But be prepared to put some work into your success. The band, unlike the bypass, does not circumvent our issues of eating high calorie foods that we can "get past the band". Weight loss will be slower but healthier. There are risks involved of course, but nothing as dangerous as those associated with the bypass. Im sure you see that already. Enjoy your journey, get to know everyone here, cruise the boards and find a wealth of info that will get you started with confidence and excitement!

    Feb 8 ........ 210 lbs

Wednesday Ate like a pig at the superbowl party. Weighed 210 this morning but finally got my eating back on track today. I lost 4 lbs in January and nothing this month. I think I will have to start using fitday to track my calories. I wonder if I can get Dr Smith to switch me to Metformin. I hate losing this slowly, it is frustrating. breakfast 2 scrambled eggs lunch popcorn chicken supper 4oz filet mignon with mushrooms and some broccoli

    For all you losers.......

Hello! I have really changed my eating habits...I am eating high Protein and low carbs... I have a hard time eating something that is not going to help me nutritionally because I don't want to waste the calories on it. My idea is to get to goal as quickly as possible...and then see if I am still interested in those other things! Rain
  5. I have not been lost any weight in about a week and I am almost 4 weeks out from being banded. I am on soft solid foods and have been ok with it. I have tried to stay away from high carbs. I usually walk about 2 miles everyday. So here is what I didn't realize, I am not getting a lot calories throughout the day and I thought I must be getting to many. I just logged my food intake into Daily Plate and I only got 691 calories today. Is this ok or is this a reason I am staying at the same weight? I didn't weigh today because my next weigh day is tomorrow. Do I need to be getting more calories? How should I go about this without snaking. I am so lost in this process. I want to lose the weight and I know they say focus on healing at this point and I am but I have cut back on how much I eat and I am not losing anything.......HELP!!!!! Thank you in advance for reading and commenting!!!!

It took me about 8 months to get to the "green zone" and by then I was 20 pounds away from goal. What worked for me is I changed my lifestyle completely. I logged everything that went into my mouth (I use MyFitnessPal) and I stuck to 1200 calories a day with a high focus on Protein (60-70 gram a day). I also got a pedometer (FitBit) and started walking, I goaled for 10,000 steps and 25 flights of stairs a day. The band will help you, but you have to do your part. Don't compare yourself to others, your journey is going to be unique to you. I have a friend that say's it's all about WANT power, if you want it bad enough you will make it happen. It sounds like you want it, so make it happen!

    Need Help!!!

Hi Holly, it may be because you moved to the mushie stage. It is quite common to gain weight between mushy and even solids. Your caloric intake should be anywhere between 600-800 or 1k maximum. That is what the Dieticians recommend. I would wait it out a few more days or up your calories to 900-1k and see how you do. Don't be too discouraged. Now is the time to heal. The weight loss will come after you begin fills. Good luck.

are you tracking your calories? I do and that is a huge help in knowing how much you are taking in.

What are people snackin' on these days?

I like to snack on Asian Rice Crackers - the bbq and cheese flavors are yummy - 18 (count em) 18 crackers are only 120 calories, but I can usually only eat 5 or 6 at a time. So it is a good low calorie snack that satisfy's the crunchy sensation I sometimes crave.
  10. I also have a food scale I use at home. It is definitely handy for those small items that you can't accurately guesstimate. For something like sauce that you're are straining mostly, you will probably have to guesstimate that, but something that minimal shouldn't throw you off too much. Remember, the goal isn't to get exact calorie counts for everything, it's just to keep good track so you are staying in a healthy range and help you keep track if patterns in your food choices to see what's working and what's not for you.
  11. I hate to be a downer, but for me maintenance has always been the struggle of ANY diet I've ever been on, and for the most part, the sleeve is no different. After you are past your honeymoon stage, losing the weight becomes harder and harder. Gaining can happen fairly easily (for me anyway) all I have to do is quit paying attention to what I put in my mouth and viola, the scale goes up. Here is where the sleeve makes a difference for me. I eat about 900-1,200 calories a day. I'm almost 2.5 years post-op. I don't feel hungry even on such low calories. I do much better when I eat 80-115g of protein a day. When I let more than 100g of carbs slip in that is when I feel MORE hungry, due to more carbs. Maintenance is for life, that is the hard part! But you can do it, if you are willing to put in the work!

    protein shots????

I have the 42 gram vials in grape. I can sip it over the course of the day right from the vial or if I want to thin it out I mix the protein with G2 Gatorade. A 32oz bottle has a total of 100 calories. The vial of protein has 180 calories. I purchased mine from GNC.

    Fat grams intake

Hey everyone. I've started a boot camp as of today. I'm trying to find out what is the healthy intake for protein, carbs, calories, and fat grams. Can anyone tell me what is recommended for each? Thank you very much.
  14. My update: I was sleeved on 4/27. Horrible nausea post op. Left the hospital having had nothing but Water and a few tea spoons of broth. Thing are gradually getting better. Probably getting in about 300 calories per day. Missing by a mile on the Protein, but doing pretty well on staying hydrated. Weighed this morning and I am up 2 pounds from the scales Wednesday morning as I left for the hospital. That's not fun to see. I understand now how this plays with the brain. I mean, what??am I going to start gaining weight when I am able to take 500 calories in per day? They've told me that any sort of risk of a dangerous episode is pretty much over on day 21 so that's all I have my sights on now. As long as I know it's just a matter of accepting this was my decision and plugging away at it, I'll be fine. But right now, it's all feeling a bit futile. Or maybe my concerns are just the nausea talking. I hate being nauseous so it might just be that big mouth that's bugging me. -- A little side note: My BF drove me around a bit yesterday. We went to McDonalds so he could get some lunch. He kept asking if it was okay or if it would bother me. I told him it really didn't bother me at all. Well he's normally a really slow eater. Yesterday he ate like he was in one of those hot dog contests. I could tell he still felt really bad sitting and eating in front of me. But it really didn't bother me in the least. I do miss salty since all of these awful Protein drinks are so very sweet. But aside from wanting to lick one of his french fries, I was fine,

    Hunger?

I'm 6 weeks post op. I was hungry a lot the first 2 weeks. I also felt my stomach roiling. A PPI helped a lot. But at 6 weeks I get hungry. My practice would like me eating 3 meals plus 1 snack. I am eating 3 meals plus 3 Snacks. But I am hitting all the targets-calories, Protein, low carb. And I get satisfied. I'm just hungry again in 2-3 hours. I've asked about it at every appointment. And been told that the "you won't feel hungry is nota universal truth". Right or wrong, I am telling myself this will make lifetime maintenance harder, and so I will need to pay attention as I progress, to keep bad habits at bay. But what I really wish I could eat more of is vegetables. Especially raw vegetables (haven't tried any yet). So I have already made progress in changing my needs. And I didn't get fat from eating too many bell peppers. So if I end up eating a lot of veggies as snacks down the road I doubt it will cause damage.

    Serious second thoughts HELP!!!

Seppi, we're not here to "help" you decide for or against the surgery. Only you can do that. We can share our own experiences though, for what it's worth. In the 8 months prior to my banding I lost about 30 lbs "on my own" -- that is, with only the help of an over-the-counter product (the now-banned ephedra). I first decided to seek surgery in the summer of 2002. Motivated by my decision I found a new determination to cut calories and lose weight and went from 340 to 310 and maintained that, for a while. I even briefly considered dropping my battle with my insurance company over banding, since it seemed like this approach was working. But I stopped taking the ephedra out of concern for my life, and the weight started to come back on as it always had before. I realized surgery was still my best chance for a permanent solution. It's easy to look at surgery as a failure, especially when you've been fighting as long as I have, but I choose to look at it as a new weapon. Is it one you need in your arsenal? Only you can decide that.
  19. Ugh. This show was supposed to "motivate" moms who want to lose weight. Forget it. The first woman had 25 lbs to lose and lost 12 on the South Beach diet. Yay for her. The second woman had about 35 to lose before her high school reunion, and decided to do it by running a marathon. Yeah, right. The third woman is MO, but only gained weight during her pregnancy and first few years as a mother of quintuplets. Before that she'd been slim all her life, even competing in a 1990 beauty pageant at age 21. She's 5'6", weighs 258, and had bypass surgery a few months ago. She said it's so she'll be around for her five kids, but also mentioned that she wants, once again, to have a body she can be proud of. I am absolutely dumbfounded by people like this woman, who only got fat as an adult, while she was carrying SEXTUPLETS (one was stillborn), and she was consuming 7500 calories a day on her doctor's orders. Six years later she weighs more than her highest pregnant weight, but had gotten down to 190 in the interim. So it's only the last two or at most three years that she's been carrying 100 extra pounds. She seems to me like a TEXTBOOK case of someone who should be banded and NOT bypassed. How can a doctor sincerely recommend such drastic surgery to permanently change the basic functions of a healthy young body that has only recently gone awry? Given time and a certain amount of caloric restriction she probably could have lost a lot of that weight on her own. The band would have been PERFECT for her. Yet nowhere was the band mentioned. Of course. Grrrrr.

    Back and Banded

Greg, you are so funny. I think laughter is the best medicine. We all can share and cry and laugh together as we continue on our journeys of healing and losing weight. I think when we laugh together the calories expended are multiplied by the number of people laughing -- that is why you all are loosing weight so fast. I think it is wonderful. Let's keep laughing and loosing!!!!

    No Patience...gah!

No caffeine!!! Geaux, seriously no Caffeine, I about died when I heard that roflmao! One thing with Myfitnesspal.com since you know how it works. If I followed their suggestion for Protein, Carbs, sodium and calories I would end up gaining weight! Almost all doctors recommend the same thing with gastric sleeve and that's 80 grams of protein, 45-75 of carbohydrates and try to stay at 800-1200 calories a day (if you exercise and it tells you to add more calories and it says your aren't eating enough) ignore it. I quit doing Desserts like yogurt etc. and I started incorporating Peanut Butter on a teaspoon. I always ate my meat first, chew like 20 times and then go for your vegetables second, then and only then eat your carbs. Also, you have to learn not to drink with your dinner. I was a "choker" especially when I went out to eat. Something about eating in public, I always end up choking on my food and I am used to drinking Water with my meal. I learned that about an hour before dinner if I drank something hot like hot peppermint decaff tea I would be less hungry. I learned once I took away my drink with dinner, I chewed slower and chewed more thoroughly. I learned to wait at least 1/2 hour after I eat to then drink my water. These are all suggestions that were given to me in my packet and I spent 6 months practicing them. Not all doctors are that thorough, but it's worked for me when other things haven't. The reason for no caffeine is that it promotes stomach ulcers and more importantly, it causes dehydration. After surgery it's a struggle to get all your Fluid intake in and your liquid Protein in. Dehydration is a real problem. It's easier to quit caffeine before surgery than right after surgery because most people have withdrawals and headaches. I waited until I got approved to quit, so I had time to get used to it before I started on pre-op shake. Surgery is a week from tomorrow. A bit tired of drinking protein shakes and I decided not to have a big Memorial Bash because truthfully it would be hard having a huge party while on protein shakes, but my parents are going to swing by tomorrow to do some wii bowling. Good luck to you and can't wait to hear how your plan is going to go. All bariatric centers are different, mine seems to be one of the strictest compared to most. After surgery 2 weeks of Clear liquids, then 4-6 of full liquids then pureed, then soft, then regular. With pre-op diet, that's 10 weeks of no real solids.

    Stalling so soon????

Sometimes I take fresh mozarella (the one packed in water) and eat a couple slices with tomato and a leaf of fresh basil, sprinkle with just a touch of balsamic vinegar. Again, if I need a vehicle for those yummy toppings, cucumber slices or thin slices of jicama does the trick nicely. Since I gave up most breads, I can't have a true caprese, but it's close enough. Occasionally I snack on a 1/4 cup of seeds or nuts, or a few slices of avocado. On rare occasions, I just eat a tblsp of Peanut Butter. That satisfies nicely. :laugh0: But that's high calorie, so only on certain days when I need the extra cals (like if I forgot to eat--which sometimes happens.) Sometimes I get tired of cottage cheese. If I want some extra flavor, I will mix in some green onion dip mix. Just for something different. Another thing that's pretty tasty as a snack or lunch...chop thin slices of turkey (lunch meat breast works well) mix with El Pato sauce, and throw on some grated cheddar. If you're craving something medium hot & spicey--it does the trick! GG
  24. I'm 18 days post op today. I've gone from 214 at the time of surgery down to 201.1. And there I sit... all week. I know that is remarkable weight loss for just 3 weeks, but I was expecting to be in the "honeymoon" period a bit longer. I feel like I'm in a bad relationship - he's good to me for a few weeks and ignores me for one. It just seems cruel to teeter me at the precipice of Onederland. I want in that land really damn bad. I need some reality checks and pep talks. I've been battling dehydration for the past three days and really focusing on getting in my 8 glasses of water a day (64 oz). I also find that I eat an average of 800 calories a day - 60-70 grams of protein, 18 grams of fat, and about 35-50 carbs a day. Ideas?
