At 8 months post RNY I've realized I need to keep better track of my nutrients. I've written all of my food in a journal since surgery but haven't tracked nutrients for several months. Started tracking on My Fitness Pal and found I'm over....way over, where I should be. I've always struggled with making satisfying low calorie, low fat meals, apparently I still do. Now that I have quantity under better (not perfect) control my next hurdle is meal planning for optimum health. I'd love to see how others do it. It being eating 60-100 grams of Protein and 60-100 grams of carbs while staying satisfied and eating whole, less processed foods. If you do it dairy free even better....yogurt, cottage cheese, milk and I have issues. Please, please, please share your daily menus with me! If you use MFP and have journaled your diet and are willing to share it please friend me, my username is Goodnuff there too. Thanks.

Snacks or no snacks?
ireallywannabthin replied to wozzicat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT recommends 1-2 Snacks ONLY if necessary. For me, it's necessary. I incorporate it into my diet though. I usually eat Breakfast around 8:30, then I have my snack (Weight Watchers string cheese, yogurt, fruit, or something like that) around 10:30, I eat lunch around 12:30, and I usually have dinner around 5:30-6. For me, that works. If I didn't have my snack, I would probably binge after my lunch (as I have in the past). If you feel you are very hungry, have a snack. It may help take that edge off, it may help prevent you from binging or making poor choices later on, and in the end, it may help you with your success. Just make sure you count everything you eat and stay within your doctor's requirements. Talk to your NUT about your situation, maybe he/she can help re-evaluate your eating habits and help you make changes that will help you. Best of luck! -
Have you tried the Yoplait Nouriche Light yogurt smoothies? They only have 170 calories in 11oz, and 10g of protein! I have one for breakfast every day. Dannon also makes one that is smaller in size, like 80 calories, and 6g of protein. It's a good way to start my day!

I am sure your dumping syndrome was from the type of yogurt you chose. Diane 65 is right. I only eat chobani greek yogurt- plain flavor-- very high in protein--very low in sugar. I hated the taste at first but now I love it. I have never had a stall. But I really watch my carbs!!
-
Yogurt is deceiving sometimes... be careful with sugars and carbs in yogurts. I only eat Dannon light and Fit yogurts or Carb Masters from Kroger. I have never had the dumping syndrome and am almost 4 months out. I like the sugar free fudgecicles too but only eat 1 a day at most. Another thing... I don't weigh at home at all. I wait to see the numbers at my Dr. visits. I have read so many that were discouraged due to increases or stalls. I won't weigh again till August. If I go through a stall, I won't even know it! LOL .............. Hang in there... each day gets easier and the journey is amazing!
-
I am going to be very careful with yogurt in the future. I will check out the kind you mentioned. Yoplait yogurt only had 10 g of sugar & 16 g of carbs and was 90 calories. My Ensure clear has 18 g of sugar and I did not experience dumping wtih that?

I have heard that a lot of unflavored protiens are not really unflavored. Does anyone use unflavored isopure I met one lady who says she puts it in everything and can't taste it...therefore she is adding protien to almost anything she drinks and even into yogurts and other puree like foods. It is rather expensive and I didn't want to buy it unless I really think it is unflavored. I am thinking about adding it into crystal light and other clear liquids but not sure how well that was going to work???

I'm two days post-op and I'm actually surprised at how good I feel. It feels like I did about 500 sit-ups, my stomach is pretty sore, but other than that I feel great. I haven't felt one bit of hunger. I spent the first afternoon and full post-op day 1 sipping a protein drink and water, then today started in following the two weeks of liquids menu my surgeon/dietician gave me. Breakfast called for 8 ounces of Greek Yogurt. I got about 4 ounces in and felt full. It was an amazing feeling! Before the band I would NEVER feel full. It was a different feeling - it was more in my chest than my stomach, but I felt the signal and at the first sign I knew to stop. I'm comitted to being a good bandster, so I'm following the rules to a T. Tomorrow I'm set to go back to work and I think I'll be fine. The surgeon said as long as I felt okay, going back 3 days post-op would be okay. My post-op appointment is May 30th and this morning I weighed in at 222.4. I would love nothing more to be in the 215ish range when I see the surgeon, so it's time to step up the exercise.

2 months out and I am not losing ??????????
Loooou replied to tmela28's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on ur 50 Pounds lost!! Can you believe it? You have lost 50 pounds in matter of ONLY 2 month!! You shouldnt be beating urself up now, you should be so proud and ecstatic. I am so sure your doctor will tell you the same. You say you FEEL like u put on some pounds? there is a big difference between feeling and knowing. Did u weight in and find the scale going up? If so it may be cause of different factors, like water consuming ( when it goes low) U actually put on some water retain weight, but not FAT weight. Also if ur period is around thats a huge factor, I can keep fluctuating around this time for 20 days!! But if you just FEEL heavy then it is just a feeling, dont rely on it. You feel like you have made the wrong decision with the sleeve, I Will tell you that with bypass the outcome in a matter of 2 month will be the same or just few (5-7) pounds different, think of the Pros of having being sleeved that bypassed. ( Not that I am against bypass) But I must have chosen getting sleeved for a reason and thats why I will always encourage sleeve over bypass. I am sure your doctor will help you with some guidline for this period, but I am sure if u are following the simple rules ( protien first + at leat 64 OZ of water) that u wont need any guide lines, The stepper is a real nice form of exercising, I have always heard it from ( Jillian Michaels) that working up the biggest group muscels which is in ur legs and thigh is a killer burning calorie form of exercise, SO YAY for u keep it up and as soon as u get the time to do something else change this routine cause your body get used to it easily. ( Unfortunately ) You dont have to snack on meat/chicken .. you can chose a handful of nuts which is a good source of good fats ( cashews/peanut) Also yogurt ( if u are low carbing there are many brands with low carb ) I choose to have fun with my snacks, I can have a skinny SF caramel macchiato from starbucks and sometimes if I am out I just head to any supermarket and grab a quick corn flakes ( kelloges) cup. Also I tried quiche and I had a bite or 2 of it. When I was on the road. Now u said it " u need to drink More water" Make sure if u are out that u are stuffing ur car or bag with small bottles to be accountable of how much u are consuming, and dont let the day fly by without consuming at least the least amount recommended. This is really a big key when it comes to stalls or putting on water weight. I love love veggies and I see no problem eating them, sometimes when I am in hurry in the morning I grab a cucumber and cover it with some cottage or just low fat white cheese and run my errands. I consume peas, okra, eggplant, green beans and I have no problem with them. But I make sure I got my protein fair and square:) I am no expert when it comes to vitamins, I just take my B-complex and B12. also GNC hair, nail and skin formula Vitamin, and biotin. The only chew-able vitamins I take are the calcium ( i have them in chocolate falvor from VicatIv) Over all I think u are doing just great, and you are only 2 month out think of it when u are 4 month out and have nearly reached 70-80 pounds lost overall, how fabulous this would be? U will be sooo much closer to ur goal. SO as a summary: 1- UP UR WATER ( make it ur job) 2- Protein first then veggies then carbs!! 3- have good form of fats in ur snack they help with ur metabolism 4- Change ur working out routine whenever u can to trick ur body 5- BE PROUD AND HAPPY WI?TH UR RESULTS AND DONT STRESS:) Best of luck:) -
Anyone else at 8 months (or so) out?
My Big Day 3/15/2011 replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you are following your doctors orders but with what they order your weight loss will definately drag on slowly. My doctor keeps us on the same diet until we have lost all of our weight. We are allowed 3 meals consisting of 3 to 5 oz Protein and 2 oz fruit or veggie, 1 8oz cup skim or 1% milk, 6 oz yogurt as snack, That's it...no additional carbs other than what comes from the fruits, milk and yogurt. If I did not start losing with what your doctor prescribed then I would cut those carbs back considerably and keep the protein up. Good luck and hang in there...just remember this is a life long process so you have time to correct it. Great job so far on the rest of your loss. -
Anyone else at 8 months (or so) out?
myrori replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at 7 months and I now fight for every ounce gone! I have been so restrictive that I think it hurt me as I found that when I splurged I lost???? Now by splurging I warn you that is NOT anywhere close to a pre op splurge. My spurge last week was a taco bell chicken fresco taco, WAIT ARE YOU READY FOR THIS??? WITH the soft shell! Yes I ate carbs! Then I followed that 2 hours later with some tuna fish, no bread! I have been adding a 4th meal to my day that consists of lean Protein and veggie as I have upped my exercise routine exponentially as of late, not out of calorie burning,, but out of a strong desire to tone and it just plain feels good and my day is off with out it! Who would have thought such craziness in my head a few years ago!!!! Now for me a typical day goes like this: Protein shake Greek yogurt (snack) 4 oz of chicken ( I order out with the girls or bring some from the night before. Things like chicken fajita meat and veggies, boaster chicken, chicken salad, bbq chicken, ect........... all meat no carbs) I will also eat 3 turkey meat balls (trader Joes frozen) with some spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese, it soothes my desire for a plate of spaghetti. Also from the dollar store I get tuna and chicken salad snack packs and eat them as lunch, some days I will splurge and order some Soup to go with the snack pack. Some days I have a a bit of the salad my co workers order ( they are huge!) they have either chicken or turkey and cheese with hard boiled egg on it. afternoon snack is usually a string cheese stick or hand full of cashews. I have noticed I suddenly can fit a LOT more in my sleeve this last month than before, and it scared me~ I just make sure everything is protien based and I exercise more! dinner is usually out with the hubby and I will have some veggie or onion soup and a tad bit of what meat he orders and maybe a veggie or salad. -
Anyone else at 8 months (or so) out?
pattimomof3nj replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I have been stuck at 150 for at least 3 months. I have about 15 to go to get to my goal! I know I have been adding in carbs a lot more than i should be, having a sandwich here an there, but by that I mean a tuna on one of those thin things that they call bread these days?!? Then, I have been adding at least 4 servings of fruit to my day, I don't know been craving all sorts of fruit, could that be BAD?, better than candy, those are GOOD carbs right? I pretty much eat Yogurt with fresh blueberries for BFast everyday or a Protein Shake if I have time to make it. For lunch it is what ever left over meat or deli meat roll ups or chili. for dinner, what ever meat my mom cooks and a tablespoon of each of the sides that i never finish. I always measure out the meat to be between 2.5 and 3 ounces. I usually snack on fruit or nuts or beef Jerky, except when it is TOM then i have pretzel crisps with cheese or apples or PB on them! and I drink hot tea all day and LOADS of Crystal Light. I even pretty much gave up on my nightly cocktails since being sleeved! BUT I'M WEARING A SIZE 6!!!!! -
My doc didn't want me worrying about Protein right after surgery. He was more concerned about Fluid intake. I went home on Clear liquids and super soft foods (cream of wheat, yogurt, Soup etc). At my 2 week post op appointment is when they started stressing increasing my protein. I didn't have much trouble with gas (try GasX - I heard that helps a lot of WLS patients), but I did not have a BM for quite a few days after surgery. I started adding Benefiber to drinks and broth to help - and it did! If you are concerned with anything post op - call your doc! That's what they are there for!! Hope you get some relief soon!

Preparation For Surgery
wildrose1966 replied to MissPYT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I arrived at 7:30, on the table by 8:00 home by noon. It was a private clinic, so not alot of waiting around and all of the formalities were done beforehand. I wore capris and a tee shirt. I had gasx, a heating pad and lots of fluids at home, don't go crazy and overthink it - Soup, yogurt, puddings were good for the first few day, didn't have much of an appetite. I was off for 8 days, but with a desk job, that was more than enough. I was also very lucky, no pain, no need for pain killers and was up and about pretty fast. Good luck to you. -
You can make a really low-fat/no-fat hummus easily...just swirl (mix, blend, food process) garbanzo beans, lemon juice, 1 clove raw garlic, salt, 1 tbsp olive oil and nonfat plain yogurt. You can add one tbsp tahini, or, lacking that, peanut butter. Seriously, peanut butter will taste like the tahini.

I'm looking for ideas too. I'm 5 wks post op and eggs and cheese don't sit well with me too soon for nuts I'm afraid, which leaves nut butters, lunch meat (don't care for the sodium content) and yogurt. Any thing I'm missing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Daily Sugar/Carb Intake
Aggiemae replied to mylastchance21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 80-85 grams of Protein a day and keep my carbs between 20-25 grams. Usually on the lower side. The only sugar is from raw fruit juice. I use 4oz (plus a cup of ice and a scoop of unflavored protein) in my daily shake. I use 2% yogurt and cottage cheese and if I drink milk it's 1%. I eat 1/4 of an avocado a few times a week and use a splash of heavy cream in my morning cup of tea and a bit of butter on my veggies, so I guess don't restrict fat as much as some people do but most days I am around 600-700 calories. -
I just stocked up on soup, juice, popsicles, yogurt, etc. It was a breeze.

Failing in the protein department
MeMeMEEE replied to wondering1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a protein requirement yet, we are supposed to trial them and if it doesn't sit well back off. Having said that, I have gotten 6 grams the first day home, 31,38, 36 and so far today I have 14 in. Milk seems to be bothering me so I am getting some almond milk or soy milk today to try. I am getting some in via Greek yogurt and jello besides the shake - which yesterday I did a half shake and will probably do the same today. Hydration is my goal until my first post op visit at 2 weeks. Hope that helps. Glad you are feeling better!! -
I will be three weeks post op on Wednesday and I am currently on mushies. I am finding that I really am not hungry and small amounts of food are filling me up. But the problem is trying to determine if and when to eat. I usually would follow the breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner schedule. My doc did tell me if I am not hungry, do not force myself to eat and that it the exact opposite of what I have learned in the past. I would eat a little something, even if I was not that hungry to keep my body going. Now I am eating whenever I get a twinge of being hungry. Today I had a protein shake around 1pm because I was still pretty full from my dinner the night before. I had a scrambled egg later and then a container of greek yogurt. I also drank water all day. I am full now and probably will not eat much else today. Is this normal? I have my first fill in a little over a week and I am thinking I will bring it up then. On a sidenote, I am down 3.2 pounds today and I am very happy about that!!!

1 week post-op: how many lbs lost?
kcispy4 replied to LiseSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all. I am 1 week out today and my doctor has a pretty good diet progression. Liquids for the first 2 days post-opt, then thickened liquids (yogurt, pudding, cream soups) for days 3-5, then "cheat foods" until the post-op appt (mashed potatoes, oatmeal, applesauce, condensed soups). I get to go to my post-op tomorrow then move to mushy foods. Thank goodness because I feel very little, if no, restriction, and I'm just about starving. Not just craving, but stomache growling hungry. If I get too hungry I get gassy and that just hurts so I try to stay on top of it with half-way healthy foods. I can't wait for my first fill!!! -
I got my band yesterday too but am not doing as well as Kerri
keri replied to "Nita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi- I'm on clear liquids for one week and starting on week 2 can add full liquids- week 3 is purreed foods but still liquidy- applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. I was told to get as many fluids as possible- need 64 oz per day after surgery- am constantly sipping- but I am feeling good- hungry but good- I five days post op and going to work today- Was anyone else feeling HUNGRY on weeks 1 & 2? I don't have any saline in my band- My dr. does a fill on weeks 4-6- so I wonder how everyone did on those weeks w/o a fill and felt hunger for actually food- not broth!!!! It is probably "head hunger" -
May 2014 Sleevers, what are you eating?
4andcounting replied to 4andcounting's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ever since the first two weeks I gag on Protein shakes. I really only eat yogurt and cheese so maybe it could be a lactose intolerance, I hadn't thought of that. But even chicken hurts me.
