I am scheduled for the gastric sleeve in January. I am having second thoughts and debating on changing surgery to the gastric bypass. Has anyone had the sleeve and wished they would have went ahead with the bypass? Or had a revision? Or anything like that and why. Thanks!

Jules, I will be sleeved by the time you get to Mx. I am getting a revision (this band just is not for me!) Keep in touch. Happy you made the decision. I got 'most" of my fat suit off with the band but I am slowing gaining weight....30 lbs from my goal weight. (was 25lbs away last month!-20lbs the month before-Yikes :scared0:I keep getting food stuck so I eat crappy...) Let your journey begin:party4: D. (been to Medford quite a few times, my roomate grew up in Eagle Point)

Pain, upper left abdomen
sherrypep replied to doreen70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI am 13 days post op revision and woke up yesterday morning with a sharp pain under my left breast in my ribs. It hurts more when I take a deep breath. I am going to check with my Dr, in the morning. I am hoping it is just a muscle or something. Good luck. -
Do You loose weight slower
catwoman7 replied to Neubian60466's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
35 lbs in two months is a lot more than I lost - and I had a virgin bypass and weighed almost 400 lbs. And yes - revision patients typically lose more slowly. -
I'm having revision surgery aug 28. I'm a band to sleeve now bypass. I'm nervous but the reflux is bad

VSG to RNY still have GERD

I had my revision on Dec 14th. At first I thought it had definitely worked but the past few weeks the reflux is back with a vengeance. I’m at a loss as to why it’s still happening too. 🙄 -
Good Bye Band, Hello Sleeve
Lil' LO replied to MyNameIsNatalee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Dr. Les Miles in Birmingham, AL did my band. Insurance won't pay and I can't afford it. He has not done many revisions so I was looking for someone with more revision experience. I really like Dr. Alvarez and I am very excited. I will understand if he can't do it in one surgery but will be very disappointed. I want what is best for me physically. Thanks for your prayers and support! -

And if money is an issue for you like it was for me, you can have the same procedure done just across the border in Tijuana with Dr. Almaraz for $5000. He also does the three leak tests and keeps you in the hospital for 2 days and in the recovery house for another 2 days. He is A1 in my books and I hear his abilites are compared to a very famous doctor in Mexico, Dr. Ponce De Leon. The risk of any complications are so low and why not check it out at 1 866 806 4286. And no I am not paid for saying any of this, but have just had a successful sleeve operation there Monday, and one other gentleman was a revision from lapband to sleeve and he did extremely well also. Worth a look-see. -
I had surgery on 9/24 weighing 252 lbs.and went in for my first fill yesterday.. I currently weigh 225 lbs. and guess what.. my port is backwards..... now I have to do a revision.. and I do not know if I should go through this again... because I am unable to get any fills... because she has to tilt my port and attempt to have the needle penetrate on an angle.. and it hurt soo much.. The office has given me a tentative date for Jan 11.. has anyone experienced this.. my goodness It's only been two months and 6 days!!!

I can eat anything if I want to right now.. this revision needs to happen ASAP lol. Girls at work bring in donuts a couple times a week, and I so love donuts.. but I don't go to the break room on the days they bring them in, otherwise I won't be able to control myself. I've been donut free since March 2007!

Weight gain after 11 years post of & 1 year Covid
Sunnyway replied to Anna Ibrahim's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I regained all I had lost, too, but my rny was in 1990. In preparation for revision surgery I have been doing "no sugar, no wheat flour, no processed foods". I finally came to the conclusion that I am a sugar addict and these are my trigger foods. I have lost 36 lbs since the first of April. I intend to continue an abstinence diet for the rest of my life. These books helped me arrive at this decision. -
Good Bye Band, Hello Sleeve
mzblacque replied to MyNameIsNatalee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was banded 11/07/07 and had no reall success with the band. I am getting sleeved 9/5/12. I am nervous of the surgery, but after reading many of the revision stories, I know I need this band out before I began to have serious issues. Good luck with your surgery. Please keep us updated with your progress. -
Please help, so confused! :-(

Not to throw a kink your chain; however, I too, was set on the band, until I started reading abou the VSG and reading members on there who had had the band and had revision surgery to the sleeve for various reasons and first time sleevers (like I will be) .... now I am 1000% sure that I am going with the sleeve as opposed to the band. Before you make any decisions, you might want to check out the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy section on this site ... lots of very knowledgeable people with lots of honest answers. I know that there is a war of sorts between bandsters and sleevers, so I apologize to anyone who doesn't agree with me. However, she did ask for honest feedback and should know both sides of the coin before making such a life changing decision. -
Looking for advice, will try to be brief. Thank you for allowing me to join your community! As the title explains, I have had two operations in the last 12 years. I have had issues with alcohol in the past which led to my revision. Anyway, I will complete a 'my story' post soon. Today I am trying to determine if what I am experiencing is normal or not. Thank you, in advance, for your candid advice. I developed GERD-like symptoms about nine months ago. I tried to moderate it with diet (less spicy / tomato), a few rounds of Prilosec. About seven months ago I gave up all alcohol in-part due to the painful symptoms. I had greatly moderated from my two bottle a day heyday, but I still drank. I am proud of my progress, but meetings may be in my future. At three months, Dr. ordered an endoscopy. I had the procedure October 30, 2021. Results showed that I was inflamed, but no ulcers. 'Just stay on Prilosec, forever if you have to' is the advice I received. After endoscopy, I decided to give up all carbonated drinks (I was hooked on about 100+ ounces a day of Diet Dr. Pepper). My go-to drink is now water. Also have added a lot of unsweetened iced tea and some coffee. A few days after New Year, my appetite started to decline. Just the thought of food was making me not feel well. I work from home and I fell into a habit of: one yogurt in the AM, protein drink at noon if hunger strikes, then just maybe 10 bites of anything around 4pm. Dinner at 7, maybe 20 bites over two hours. Hunger pains come on strong at times, but go away fast with 2-4 bites of anything.. As of today, Jan 23, my appetite is still just about 30% / 40% of what it was. I still find myself feeling like I have to 'force' myself to eat sometimes. Nothing sounds or tastes very good. I had a colonoscopy in December. Came back normal with one non-issue polyup (sp). Last week, I ran out of Prilosec. I decided to see if maybe I could get away with an as-needed solution. Big mistake. For the last three nights I have been awakened with extreme pain in my stomach. I have been taking Pepcid and Rolaids / Tums as needed. I plan to restart Prilosec tomorrow. Not sure why my stomach is still on fire??? I have a rather bland meat and potato diet. I quit alcohol and all carbonated drinks. Maybe a liquid fast and 100 Hail Mary's? This is my theory about my appetite issue: I think giving up the pop has resulted in far less bloating in my small stomach. Perhaps this has allowed it to heal back to a normal, or less inflamed, size. I cannot eat as much, but if I space out my eating, I'm sort of fine. I'm not sure about the mental aspects of this situation or how they corollate in parallel to the physical issues. However, the last time I felt this way (loss of appetite, could barely eat) was just before my emergency revision. Thankfully I have not developed the abdominal pains of that episode, just the eating issue. Just for context: I am a 47 year old male, about 260 pounds. I worry about constriction due to scar tissue, I was warned to look out for this. Thank you for any thoughts or advice! Matt

What have you tried so far? My suggestion would be calorie counting, there are lots of apps which will calculate your daily calorie allowance for weight loss, you could track for two or three months see how you go. If you don't fancy calorie counting maybe check in with a dietician. Other than that there is weight loss revision surgery once you've given some of the options a go, if you are inclined towards a revision.

My Band To Sleeve Story
Divinediva replied to coltonwade's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also had the lap band in August of 2007. I would never recommend it to anyone. I am going through 3 month clearances to get the band removed and revised to the VSG. I will complete my clearances on January 22nd and hope to have the surgery early February. -
Looking for people with similar stats

I was in the hospital for about 2 months. had the surgery dec 20th, around the 13th of january was not able to keep any solids down so i had an upper gi done and it was determined that there was too much scar tissue so went back in for a revision to clear the scar tissue on jan 20th felt even worse afterwards and on the 25th had a stent placed in my esophagus for 10 days to open the stricture helped a tiny bit but had 2 dilations after that and was back and forth in the hospital until they determined i contracted a syndrome called SMA (semantic mesenteric artery) where pretty much theres this fat slab that holds the intestines in place and in my rapid weight loss, i lost that slab as well my intestines shifted onto an artery that was lodged against my esophagus and that i would probably have problems for the rest of my life.. long story short after being fed through a pic line for 2 months and basically being told there was nothing they could do, i discharged myself from the hospital, had the pic line removed, and decided to heal myself. Started eating even if it wouldnt stay down and staying active and COMING OFF ALLL THE MEDICATIONS and since I've done that i feel fine can eat fine (besides the limitations of the sleeve) and am exercising daily with loads of energy. I'm doing crossfit training and losing about 6 pounds per week no stalls no complications.. but it was such a scary experience i almost regretted doing it. -
The drain I had was from an previous surgery. I had a scar from kidney surgery when I was 5, with a flat well everything, and as I got older & bigger the scar indented & the Dr basically did a scar revision. He had to cut more of the area than he was expecting so he placed a drain in. It did not hurt but was annoying.

I was so glad I had a coordinator, I paid 5,600 for a revision and a coordinator. 7,500 seems really high.

Hi All, I am looking for experiences from low BMI Sleevers. When I got my band almost 4 years ago, I was considered a low BMI patient. I did lose some weight (and gain 50% of it back) and I am now considered a low BMI revision. My big struggle right now is really believing that the outcome will be better. Once you have WLS and it doesn't really work, it is hard to have hope for the next one. I almost feel like I am too vulnerable to have hope. Similar to how you feel dating someone for the first time - too vulnerable to admit that I really want it to work and that I will be crushed if I don't get a good result. With all that said, I was hoping to get some feedback from people who were low BMI sleeve patients - with or without revision. My BMI is 31 with my band - scheduled to sleeve in 8 days. My current weight is 195 and I would minimally like to get down to 145, but ultimate goal would be 130 - of course I am still too scared to hope that it is possible right now :-) I am expecting that my weight loss will not be as significant because I have less to lose. The major difference for this WLS compared to the last:: preparation! I am so prepared this time. I have the Isopure drinks, I have 4 different kinds of broth, I have glasses / bowls in 2 oz, 3 oz, and 4 oz sizes so I can get used to what those measurements look like, etc. I also have a much better support system. In short, I am really ready to do this the right way. Any low starting BMI folks out there that can give me some feedback? Thanks! Lara

I originally posted this in the wrong section but I am reposting it here because I really want to know. I have noticed that there are quite a few people who have had bands removed, replaced, port revisions, stomach erosion, etc... and I am really wondering what causes all of this? I especially would like to know how to PREVENT any of these from happening! <!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

Sandy S. I'm also glad you posted this concern. I've had my band removed 8 weeks ago and will soon start the pre-op diet. No surgery date set yet but I am already a nervous wreck. Before banding, I changed my mind at least 5 times and they were tired of me I know. Now I'm ready for my revision surgery. So I can only imagine how I"ll feel once I get a surgery date. I'm afraid of what others will say and act towards me being thin. We can all relate, and once I get my surgery date, I know that I will be coming back here reading these posts for support as well. Remember, we are in this together and I know that you'll be giving support to me and many others. Thanks!
