I can't keep vitamins down
Blue1213 replied to MrsJones's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me too when I first started vitamins. Now, even though they are chewable, I crush them first and put it on top of my yogurt. Kinda gross but tolerable and it's ruined yogurt for me but I don't get nauseous. -
Single yogurts, strong cheese, raw pecans, cashews, I keep some organic turkey and roll up with some cream cheese, I found the turkey jerky low sodium, cottage cheese, I can pretty much live on these items!

Not getting my fluids in...
LuckOtheIrish replied to TinaMarie1006's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My first three days (plus day of surgery) I was on clear liquids only, and that was fine because I was not hungry at all. I sipped on flavored water and apple juice, that's it. No protein. My dr. and NUT actually didn't mention protein at all for those first few days - all they cared about was me keeping myself hydrated. After a few days the swelling went down and I was able to get more water in. I started on protein drinks with the full liquid phase, and I've been having 2-3 per day, plus my water. Every once in a while I'll have some chicken broth, Greek yogurt or jello to vary things. -
Pre-Op Diet......Again!
ShrinkingPeach replied to SmilingBeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
None of it was really that bad but then all pre-op diets are not equal lol. Mine was Protein shakes, yogurt and Gatorade. I made it for 14 days and it wasn't all that bad. I think knowing its temporary really helps. Good luck with your surgery! -

I am just starting soft foods, 12 days out. Hubby went to KFC last night and I had him bring me a grilled dinner. I threw biscuit in the trash (didn't even look appealing - shock!) I tore the skin off and placed half in a container for lunch tomorrow. I ate a couple of bites of the mashed potatoes (throat is still sore) and a couple of bites of the baked beans (chew, chew, chew). I am gently trying soft foods and protein drinks or greek yogurt. I am trying to get back to drinking a lot of water. today is my first day back at work

Any May 26th Sleevers out there?
michellemartin961 replied to scoutmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm playing around with different brands but I've really enjoyed the whey Isolate Protein found at WalMart for around $20. I'm doing Greek yogurt for the high protein content in plain or vanilla....watch the sugar, keep it under 7 grams for sure and 4 grams if possible. V8 Energy drinks are good for after according to my daughter but again read the labels. Adkins shakes are a great on the go source but I find I need them chilled ????. Went to the movies Saturday night and I'm so proud of myself for not caving and grabbing handfuls of buttered popcorn from my boyfriend....not one bite....yay me????????. Creamed soup also allowed until Wed 21st then yogurt or sugar free pudding the only yummy Snacks allowed up to the day before surgery. Oh and V8 low sodium great for the veggie juice! It is hard but I keep telling myself this will be my life after surgery (for several weeks anyway) so the more conscious I am now of what passes my lips the better my success! Yup juicy cheeseburgers have haunted my thoughts passing Whataburger or Wendy's and Mexican food is not far behind but that is what got me here in the first place ????. 9 days and I will flip from preop to postop....I can't wait until the 26th!!!! Pre-op diet is a b***h
MauiGirl5555 replied to SlimJill's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found out that I am supposed to do a 1 month 100% liquid diet....nothing solid....no yogurt...nothing carbonated.....it seems most people only have to do 1 or 2 weeks of a liquid diet.....it will be torture and I believe I will not be able to 100% stick to it. I travel a lot for work and I wanted to have the surgery during my longest break which is 12 weeks... Now that I have to suffer through 4 weeks of liquid I will only have 8 weeks to recover and be ready for a 5 week, 3 city work trip which will be a challenge. I am already overwhelmed at the changes in my "new" life and I feel like the Dr just gave me a huge new hurdle to get over....and it angers me. A month with no food seems impossible!!! -

I've been there before, loved the king of Prussia mall.. I had training up there 15 yes ago. I'm from Charlotte NC .. Been here most of my life. I was born in Louisiana while my father was in the army, but my family are from Michigan.Very interesting that not only have you heard of King of Prussia, you've been here before. And yes , first thing people say is " great mall". Lol. It is a great mall , not being much of a shopper , I'm not there much. I live about a mile from that mall. So your in NC, how nice. I hear how southerns are so nice and hospitable. So not the case with Northerns. Well I consider myself nice. Just saying we have reputation of being rude and move / talk fast. Anyway, I feel pretty good today. And I also am no longer taking pain meds. Today is 12 days out for me. Oh , going to grocery store today, getting ready for when I can start eating soft / puréed. I did "cheat" a little this morning. Had a bit of Greek yogurt. Went down nicely without a problem. Don't wanna push it to quickly.I'm not much of a mall person either. But yes it was a great mall. Yes us southerners are mostly friendly, and I know not all northerners are rude lol. We just love everyone down south, and want to make sure you don't need a cold glass of something for refreshment ????I started a day early with sampling puréed food and no issues. Glad to hear you had no issues with yogurt. -

There is evidence out there that we can only absorb 10-20g Protein in an hour (depending on the source) Any excess is converted to glucose. So if you are drinking that morning shake in a short period of time you may be short changing your protein requirements, and basically drinking a "glucose shake". Like others said, there are a lot of healthy food choices out there and we have a very short period of time to develop the new habits required for a lifetime of keeping weight off. In those first few months I ate only healthy, whole food..... tuna, fish, chicken breast, shrimp, ground beef, crab meat, edamame, refried Beans, Greek yogurt, peaches, mangos, broccoli, spinach, green beans, 10 grain Cereal, cheese, cottage cheese, homemade elk Jerky, mixed nuts, pumpkin seeds, Brussel sprouts, tomatoes, zucchini, etc. Never had any fried or breaded food or "white carbs" like potatoes, rice, Pasta or bread. Other than my Protein shakes I stayed away from artificial sweeteners or anything processed. Not only did this help me retrain how I ate, it gave my body the opportunity to detox from all the processed food I'd been living on. You'll be surprised what your new cravings may be after you get all the crap out of your body.

What is one guilty pleasure you cannot give up
roundisashape replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No guilt! But I'll never not love my occasional peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And I probably eat way too much frozen yogurt, but it's got protein in it, lol. Sometimes that's what gets me over the edge to goal at night. -

Maybe I am atypical, but the sleeve didn't help with hunger
Noragretz replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ugh I'm so there with you on this. I've been hungry the whole time! Im 8 months out. I was on an acid pill for 2 months prior to surgery and 6 months after for duodenal ulcers. So I know it wasn't acid, I can now tell the difference in acid "hunger" feel, and real hunger. This is real hunger with actual growling like it did before surgery (no growling with acid). Only thing now when it growls and spasms in hunger - it doesn't hurt like it did before surgery. What I found helps is eating solid Protein, (poultry, beef, fish, eggs) instead of processed Proteins like cheese, milk, yogurts, Protein drinks. Cutting out artificial sweeteners, keeping carbs low, and sugars lower. Also I noticed if I stop snacking and reduce eating to the three meals and maybe one snack im not as hungry as often. Drink lots of Water too, water helps soothe the growling too and chewing some gum. Hang in there. Try cooking up some chicken and eat 3 oz of chicken every 2-3 hours wether u are hungry or not, then after about a week start spreading the time out to set meals of chicken and a vegetable. -
Where's all the over 50's people. What's going on out there. I am progressing from clear liquids to soft foods today. Hooray ! Can't wait to eggs. Cottage cheese. Yogurt. All the things I had no idea I would miss. Plus if I choose to I can purée other foods like chicken or beef. Doesn't sound appetizing to purée meats. But hey, maybe I will try it. Others have suggested baby food while I'm on puréed foods. I can't imagine baby food tasting good. I think it would be oh so bland and watery. If anyone has suggestions, please share. Good luck to all.

This pre op diet is killing me
ShrinkingPeach replied to Tracan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and yes by a certain point I had to make myself eat and drink. I had to do Protein shakes, sf pudding, light yogurt, Gatorade and Water. Not much variety there and everything was sweet. Maybe try spicing things differently for variety? I couldn't wait to get to the surgery date for it to be over but now I am on a week of 3 Protein Shakes a day and sf popsicles...lol Just keep your eyes on the prize and enjoy the weight you are losing as a by product of the pre-op diet...they are pounds that you are ahead of the game for after surgery. Good luck and hang in there!! -
When does the weight loss start?
WL WARRIOR replied to faxxy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
chicken nuggets? Most chicken nuggets contain fillers that might surprise you, and its not lean chicken. I am seven months out and have lost 130 pounds since surgery. The most important thing I have learned from this experience is that being disciplined to a very structured way of eating is difficult in the beginning and can be exhausting at times. However, it definitely pays off. You get use to it and eventually realize how out of control and problematic your old way of eating really was. I still enjoy eating with the family and get togethers. My food choices are wiser and now are more planned. If I am going out for more than 3 hours, I know that I need to take something with me (Protein shake, turkey sticks, jurkey, yogurt) so that I don't get too hungry and eat something I shouldn't (like my child's leftover chicken nuggets). -
