Anyone want to meet in the chat room?
Tiffykins replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was so nauseated yesterday. It was by far the worse day of my recovery. I was in bed by 10pm last night, and finally today I feel good. I'm so tired of taking Phenergan, but the antibiotics make me so sick, even when I eat something. I broke down and ate some greek yogurt today because my stomach just needed it. I just have a few more days on antibiotics, and hope I can make it through. I'm sick of being sick. -
Things You've Noticed Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery
LilMissDiva Irene replied to MurphysLaw217's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm thoroughly taking advantage of this board here, LOL! I've noticed a few of these things I wanted to know if anyone else has, some things I expected, some I didn't: sensitivity to cold-I have to sleep with a heating blanket or I wake up consistently cold, when I handle anything cold like a cold beverage, I have to literally put on gloves, feels like lightening is going through my hands and it aches-had this similar feeling with chemo. Yep this happens to me too! Lots here as well, this has not gone away. I have to turn my room heater up full blast and my electric blanket which is just on my side. I'm always burning everyone out!!! smells of food-whenever my family members are cooking-things that used to NOT bother me-do so now, makes me nauseated. I also had this too, however mine only lasted for the first few months if I recall correctly. tastes of food-I know this is HORRIBLE!! I taste some things and spit them out, but I don't swallow, stuff I used to like, like yogurt, I can't tolerate now, it tastes funny like it's gone bad and then I am second guessing myself, LOL. This one was weird for me. I ended up liking or loving foods post op that I didn't particularly care to eat before, or foods that I loved to eat pre sleeve, I can't stand anymore. This has not changed for me at this point. cravings-horrific cravings that I don't give into, like for Big Macs, I'd pay some one to eat a big mac in front of me right now!!!! I think this simply comes from missing foods, especially being on liquids only or soft foods. However you may find that once you have it, you won't think it's as great as it once was - which is great!! I'm hungry, you can hear my stomach constantly growl, I feel empty. It's possible this can be caused by an over production of acid in your new sleeved stomach. Our stomachs still want to create as much acid as it once did, even though our stomachs are only a fraction of what it once was. I'm taking Zegerid for mine, and to date I have not been able to get off from it. Some over time are able to however. Consult your Dr. about this. Thanks! -
Yes, in the beginning I hated eating too. I ate alot of mushies, yogurt, sf pudding, soups, whatever was easy to go down. Now I don't have any difficulties eating and I'm 4.75 months post op. So it does get better, hang in there!

Trouble with Pre-op - Your thoughts, Please
ChristinasSleeveStory replied to cindym44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
September 13th here ... Pre op diet is 100 oz. of liquid a day (4 Protein drinks), 3 doses of Fiber, and a half cup of veggies (which I haven't been eating). Light yogurt is allowed (EWWWW), skim milk, broth, decay tea/coffee. I stick with milk in Protein shakes made from powder (up to three servings of "dairy" a day), pre made protein shakes, flavored Water, and broth. I confessed and told my nurse that I had solid foods week 1 (out of 3 week all-liquid diet) and she obviously told me NOT TO CHEAT WHAT-SO-EVER going forward Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Tomojac replied to lsheshequin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@Isheshequin thanks for the share. I think I know most of this just hard to get my mind to accept it. Haha. I think I need to stick with what works a while longer like cheese, beans, and greek yogurt. And wait a bit on the meat. -
1st day of pre-op diet - 8 hours in - absolutely starving!!!!
Creekimp13 replied to LD91's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed decaf coffee, herbal tea, sugar free drinks. I was also allowed sugar free jello, clear broth, and sugar free Popsicles. I got 5 premier protien shakes per day, plus ONE serving of the following: a 100 calorie greek yogurt OR one cup of cream of wheat OR one cup of cream soup. I didn't get to eat meat and veggies like some folks do...I would have preferred that. The last five days, were JUST the shakes and clear fluids. I had a 14 day presurgical diet. Lost 12 pounds. Doctor said my liver looked terrific. (my cheat with the turkey breast was on day 3...I fessed up to it...and it was ok) Also...weirdly...my surgeon wanted us to carb load right before surgery....so we were instructed to drink a bunch of white grape juice the night before. I remember it making me feel super zippy and wide awake. I've never heard anyone else talk about this, so I think my surgeon might be an outlier. We do a lot of things kinda differently...part of a research project. -
75 Pounds Down Today -- I Love My Band!
pink dahlia replied to Bandista's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Dfaulkner, I have an incredible sweet tooth too, I have something sweet every day. (MnM's are my kryptonite ! Sigh...........) I just finally gave up trying to fight it, and just limit my portion. I love WW ice cream, Yasso brand frozen yogurt bars, and anything crunchy and/or sweet. Try looking up "diabetic desserts" for healthier ideas, and while I've never tried "Stevia " sweetner in anything beside a cup of tea, ive heard it's just as sweet as sugar but better for you. Good luck ! -
We share a sleeve date! I'm not trying too many new foods yet. I do 6 mini meals a day. Some stand bys for me are hot choc /decaf (15g) . 2 light mozzarella string cheese (12g). Chobani Lemon Greek Yogurt (15g). Boars Head Ever-roast deli Chicken 2 oz (13g). Al Fresco chicken sausage (14g). Morningstar Spicy Black Bean Burger (11g).1 pouch tuna/1/2 c 1% cottage cheese (31g). Gortons Simply Bake Tilapia (20g). Unjury protein powder 1 scoop/8 oz skim milk (29g) and sometimes I add 2 T of PB2 which brings it to 34g. Each one of these standbys is 1 mini meal for me. I don't have room for anything after eating it. Don't eat them all on the same day but keep my cals under 900 for the day. I shoot for 90g a day. Good luck with your journey sis! Sorry for the run on paragraph. My enter key is not working ONLY on this website. Hopefully tech will get it figured out as it does curtail me from posting as often as I like.

How Long Did you have to crush your meds?
SuperDave replied to brians34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was instructed to do it for at least 90 days, longer if the pills are unusually large. I normally mix with a spoonful of yogurt, it seems to hide the flavor well. For something really unpleasant tasting, I use tabasco sauce. I love that stuff anyway! -
Am I ever going to eat again?
wonderwoman75 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering will I be able to eat more with time? I only eat small small portions of cheese, yogurt, ham, etc. will I ever be able to have a small meal. Oh btw I'm only two months out. -
I got my band on 2/28, and experienced those horrible first two weeks, then after I felt better, I had very little appetite. I thought, this is great, look how little I am eating. I have lost 27 lbs. (including weight lost on the one week liquid diet). I know that is outstanding and I am thrilled. My problem is that I am now hungry. I'm on soft foods and I think I'm eating way too much. This is what I've eaten today: Breakfast: one egg, a slice of chopped up kielbasa (polish sausage) Snack: yogurt Lunch: The insides of a subway tuna wrap (with lettuce, tomato, pepper) I also had two cups of coffee before Breakfast, and some Water in between! I chew everything well, I've experienced no problems, no PB's (thankfully!!!). I'm scheduled for my first fill on 4/19. I can't imagine what's going on inside me. I think I must have no restriction at all. I'm worrying that I'm somehow going to screw this up. I mean, can I "blow up" my stomach?? Please help me! Thanks Mayra

Typical day, typical foods
Texasmom65 replied to Penpen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 7 weeks out and no problems so far eating. Breakfast: Protein shake with instant coffee or egg with Morning Star Sausage pattie, or bacon Lunch: Tuna with olive mayo and dill relish with 4 crackers or costco italian meatballs with bbq sauce or some type of sauce. I've also made a pizza out of a 1/2 pc of flatout bread with pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni, cheese and sometimes add Morning Star meal starter cumbles. (like crumbled sausage) Dinner: Shrimp, stew meat in crock pot, meatballs, hot links, chicken or hamburger meat. I have not tried steak yet. If we go out to eat Mexican, I will get a soft beef taco and just eat the inside, not the tortilla. Oh and I haven't tied lettuce yet etiher. Refried Beans are good too. Snacks; Protein bars or shakes, fruit...like cherries, strawberries with greek yogurt and some granola. (sometimes I have that for breakfast) -
A co-worker recommended Bolthouse Farms yogurt dressing. It has only 45 calories per two tablespoon serving, 2.5 fat, 2 g Protein (for the Caesar Parmigiano variety). It tastes great...not "diet" at all. I found this dressing at Meijer in the refrigerated section of the produce department. I use it as a dipping sauce for Costco's turkey patty (which has 35 grams of protein!)

Was sleeved on oct 28th. On my first week post op was down 14lbs. It was a struggle with shakes and vitamins and liquid. I finally can drink premier Protien vanilla and bariatrics chewable vitamins. The problem I'm having now is what to eat. It is 4 weeks today and I don't know what to eat. I have oatmeal, Greek yogurt, broth with a little pastina in it. But that's pretty much it. Anything solid than that feels like it's stuck it very uncomfortable Does anyone know where I can get recipes or other foods to try. Thank you

Does decaffeinated tea count as water?
kab1278 replied to kab1278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Goodness! Why didn't I look here first?! Soooo dits4golf...who "checked their facts" and who are we going to go with? The people who we trusted to make the thing we now have around our stomachs or a generalized website with no affiliation to the LapBand? Hmmm...hard decision. See www.lapband.com/en/resourcecenter/detail/284 for information below. (Clicking the link won't work. Don't know why. Search Resource Center for "Drink to Your Health" @ www.lapband.com) First three days after surgery: Sip Clear Liquids "I recommend sugar-free drinks like Crystal Light, which comes in lots of different flavors," Dilks says. "Propel Fitness Water and Fruit2O are also good choices." Three days to two weeks after surgery: Enjoy Full Liquids "At this stage, you can drink beverages such as skim or 1 percent milk, protein shakes, strained low-fat cream soups, tomato soup, vegetable juice, and low-fat, low-sugar yogurt without fruit, seeds, or chunks," says Dilks. Post-recovery: Keep It Going After the first two weeks or so, you can continue to drink many of the same beverages you've been enjoyingwater, black coffee, unsweetened tea, Crystal Light, and low-calorie flavored waters. The key is to try to stick to zero-calorie drinks as much as you can. You want your calories to come from healthy, satisfying foods, not a cup of sugary drink. So avoid high-calorie beverages like juice and flavored coffee drinks. -
I'm Desperately Hungry!
StevieSmithtown replied to marimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The procedure was, by far, the greatest thing I ever did for myself! I have dropped just over 30 lbs in a few days shy of three weeks and I'm eating fish, lentils, black beans,Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes. Every doctor is different but the end result is the same: we save our lives. -
I'm a month further out than you and I have to watch the Snacks and drinks now. If I'm truly hungry and sometimes I am, I have to have some Protein or I get hungry again pretty fast. Veggie Soup is good with the lowest calorie dense protein you can get. Turkey or chicken breast is perfect. I found some good sliced turkey breast at costco. I also like Tuna mixed with a little light mayo. Sometimes I drink a V-8 with a low fat cheese stick and some Special K Crackers. I also like a yogurt parfait with greek yogurt and fruit. I start with the fatfree plain greek yogurt and add Splenda and Water to get the sweetness and a lighter consistency. Then I layer it with a little Breakfast Cereal and some cut up fruit. For snacks and more head hunger I like any fruit, sugar snap peas, and cherry tomatoes. At night, sometimes I get by with hot tea and a little Splenda. Period time is the worst! I'm glad those days are behind me, but sometimes the cravings still hit me. Lynda

Help!! Cant find low carb mushy foods
shadst8 replied to hazeleyedstef's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kroger has carbmaster yogurt that is 12 grams of protein and 3 net carbs. Also try crabcakes-maybe making your own with less bread and more crab meat. Sugar-free pudding is less than 5 grams of carbs, -
You know that saying, you gotta kiss a lot of frogs until you find your Prince Charming? That's what the search for the right Protein drink is. My doctor gave me a list that was a full page front and back of Protein shakes, drinks and powders. It took forever going through that list. I had to rule out stuff I didn't like and stuff I was allergic to. You'd be surprised how many have stevia in them. I went to various drug stores like GNC & Vitamin shop as well as the Rite Aid/CVS types and bought single servings. Next I hit up Whole Foods and bought a few single serving packs there as well. Finally I ordered a few online. It took me 2 weeks to go through them all to find a few that I like the taste of. I ended up with 3: Prosource Plus liquid Protein unflavored. - This was good for mixing in Soups or tea. Ordered online. Orgain Organics premixed drinks - This was great for on the go. Price point was relatively low. I buy these at Walgreen's drug store. CVS whey powder. - I mix these with almond milk. I like the high protein content. Also mixes well with plain greek yogurt for a really great 1-2 punch of protein. Comes in vanilla or chocolate flavors. I buy it at CVS drug store. Other options are plain, greek yogurt thinned with low fat or fat free milk. This is an acquired taste. Plain yogurt is not sweet at all. However mixed with a bit of fruit or whey powder can be pretty tasty. Kefir drinks. They come in many flavors. I prefer Lifeway brand.

Band Size Vs. Fills And Fullness
highland replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, 38 pounds in one month! Amazing! Does that include any pre op weight loss? It took me five months to lose that much! I have a 10cc band, and have had 6 fills for a total of 7.3cc's. We are all sooo different! One person never needs a fill and another, like me, needs this much to feel restriction. I almost never get hungry. I usually go 6 to 7 hours before I feel physically hungry. I usually have a greek yogurt somerime in between that span just to help get all my protein in. I have not had the quick weight loss as some, but I'm extremely pleased with my journey so far!!!! We all get there in the end.....just differently for all!!
