Hey there! Yea for March 31sters! Yes, I am on a stair-step diet. Right now I can have stuff like yogurt, milk, creamy soups, protein shakes, etc. On Wednesday, I get to have scrambled eggs and oatmeal, mashed potatoes! WOW I can't wait for that, lol. You know, I could never be a vegetarian, I miss meat
So, how did your surgery go? Mine, being the first surgery I have ever had was smooth as silk! Pain was minimal, tolerable. I went back to work yesterday, maybe a little too much excitement, but doing o.k. You?

Hi Nicole! It's good to hear from you. I am feeling normal. I have started eating one meal a day and doing protein drinks for the other two. I've lost about 35 pounds since starting the pre-op diet. I love the results but I am still hungry alot of the time. Just keep drinking. It is so good for your body. (Or so they say. lol) Take care, Stacey

You'll do fine at your doc's appointment!
I can't wait to hear how you do. I was down 14 lbs at mine last week but I think I've lost about 5-6 since then. The scale is REALLY moving all of the sudden.
I'm still sticking to a pretty strict regimen. I drink a protein shake every morning for breakfast. Lunch is something small and packed with protein. I eat a TON of chicken and turkey. Protein first!
Dinners are less than 1/2 of what I used to eat. Last night was 1/2 of a chicken wrap. Sadly, my hubby has GAINED 5+ lbs, but I think it's because he keeps finishing my meals. I have to get him to stop that.
I'm worried because I'm going out of town this weekend and will inevitably bloat. I don't want to go into my doctor's office on Monday for my first fill and be up or not show any more weight loss.
So, I'm trying to figure that out.
Good luck to you! HUGS!

girl you look great! but i know how frustrating a plateau can be. it really depends on what you are doing as far as getting out of it. you need to trick your body because it has probably gotten bored so kick up the water if you are not getting enough, try to do at least one hour of cardio 4 to 5 days per week, eat more protein and veggies, minimize the snacking if you are doing that. but again it depends on what you are doing...email me and tell me what you are doing and maybe i can help a little further...

I am feeling scared. I know it will sound funny but I am mourning the loss of my "old" life. I am actually fantasizing about going to my favorite Chinese buffet just one more time before life as I know it changes. I am also worried what I am going to use instead of food to deal with the stresses of life. So, I think I am ready but it is also scary. And I am HUNGRY! LOL This two protein shake/one meal a day diet is tough! I have been doing it for a week now but there is still two to go. I am excited to get it over with. Of course in the back of my mind is the date...my father passed away on that date in '07 so hopefully he wont be at the gates waiting for me. LOL. I am excited though. It is going to be fun having a totally new life. What about you? What are your fears and thoughts? I am a teacher but I can be a great listener.

Thanks for the kind words... that is very nice of you... feels good to hear that sometimes. I have done pretty well with the band-- I am very blessed that since surgery I have had restriction-- I didnt have to go thru "bandster hell".... I have just followed the rules on drinking while eating... and eating my protein... and just making healthy food decisions as far as nutrition. Don't get me wrong-- I do allow myself a couple of "favorite" meals each week- but bc I have restriction I dont go over my calories. If you need anything on your journey please don't hesitate to email me-- will be glad to help... I will tell you one thing that helped me alot -- is to log all my food and drinks in caloriecounters.... I have offically lost 89 lbs as of this morning-- and I have 17 more to go to reach my original goal -- but I am thinking i might go another 10... to 125.

Not getting hungry yet, but I have had trouble with the protein drinks. My nurse suggested Muscle Milk, I'm trying it tomorrow. I really need more proteins. I am on liquids only now (today is the first day) but all Ive had today is some potato soup and some sugar-free pudding lol!!
I can't seem to have any more than that..it hurts my tummy
Plus, my nutritionist said that by week 3 I will be hungry...so I really wanna get a head-start so it won't be so hard for me to loose between week 3-5 (I have my first fill at week 6).

You are so much better at taking your vitamins than me! I haven't taken them in awhile. I usually get enough calcium from my diet, but a good multivitamin is in dire need. I have lost a lot of hair, but my hair is still pretty thick (it was SUPER thick before and I'd have to get it thinned out!) I'll definitely let you know which ones don't suck. lol
I'm going to Clearwater Beach. It's the Allegiant Tampa/St. Pete flight. I'm going with 7 other girls. I cannot wait!! I've been 2 other times, but in a size 26 and 24. I'm going in a size 18 swimsuit this time
:)
I do occasionally drink protein shakes if I'm feeling particularly tight. Does your band tighten on your period? I use the Bariatric Advantage Chocolate. I had the Banana ...it was AWFUL. I can still remember the taste in my mind. I just ordered a sample of their vanilla. I want to start drinking more of them with blended fruit or low fat/sugar yogurt.

Hey Sharon! Surgery was relatively easy actually! I had pain around my port site for about a two weeks and had some gas pains that lasted for about a week and a half. I was up and walking within 3 hours of surgery (they wouldn't let me up sooner) and then I walked off and on all night. I had to stay overnight so I didn't have anything better to do since I couldn't get to sleep on my back!
I'm a month out now, and to be honest, I'm a lucky bandster, I'm not hungry. Haven't had a fill since I'm losing weight and can't eat over 1/2 c. of solid proteins. I stay full for 3.5 hours. I exercise 5-6 days/wk.
I spent my 6 month supervised diet learning as much about my new life as possible. I knew to succeed I had to figure out why I ate, when I ate and what to do when I couldn't eat to make myself feel better. It's going to be a lifelong journey - but well worth it!
Congratulations on starting your journey! Good luck with all your pre-surgery steps and feel free to contact me anytime!

After 18 months of following the rules scrupulously (I could've been a lap band poster child) my band slipped. It hurt like the devil; doc removed it yesterday 2/24/2010. I'm sure it is a viable option for many people and those of you for whom it is working I say YAY! After 18 months and 113 pounds down, though, it ultimately wasn't the solution for me. Good luck to you all!

Heyyyyyyyy Mispristy!!! That's what I'm talking bout!! Back to work already. I'm hoping that I can do the same they want me to take a week off no can do it (without pay???) nope nodda doin it!!!! Yes, 5 more days I am so ready!! my clothes are packed for my overnight stay and the suitcase is by the door!!! Hmph!! I am not playin!!
Which band did you choose? I told my doctor that I wanted the AP Band which is the one that is more circular with the rough ridges that when it's inflated it looks like a circle still....However depending on my antamony (as they put it) will determine which one I will get one of the AP band sizes I will get. Since this is a revision to my gastric bypass that I had in 2004 he told me more than likely they will be filing my band so that it will fit around the valve to my stomach pouch.....I wish today was Friday!! Hmph!! Anywhoooooooo, I am glad that you are doing well. How are you doing with your proteins & stuff??

Today was my first day that I felt something remotely normal. Had more energy and felt good for most of the day. Maybe tomorrow you'll feel good. I too, am supposed to be on the liquid diet, but I had a bit of oatmeal for breakfast - it went down no problem but I had an upset stomach later on in the day - not sure if its related or not. To date, pre-surg diet and after being banded, I've lost 15 pounds. I had hoped for more, but its a good start. I make a point of drinking three protein shakes a day and the ones I chose seems to have a lot of carbs, calories, and sugar - may have to rethink those. I am getting bored though, I even have food fantasies and that is bad. I know I need to get a grip. Like you I am trying to get to know the site. I pretty much respond to threads in our group, reply to recent blog postings and respond to messages like yours. I'm hoping in time I get better with this because I really enjoy the conversations. I hope you start getting back to normal really soon.

Hey Destined! I'm doing great I got approved after 2weeks from the time they submitted my paperwork. I have my surgery date Mon, March 1st! I'm so excited I just can't hide it I'm 'bout 2 lose some weight & I know I love it! (Borrowed from fellow bandster but I remixed it!..giggles) I know time is near but I wish it was already here!! It's okay w/the late response glad you got back 2 me I'm not nervous 'bout the surgery @ all this will be my 2nd bariatric surgery (gastric bypass 2004) did really great until the meds which caused me 2 pick up 2 much weight 2 fast only thing scares me is the fills, I seen the needle! My dr numbs the area 1st but I hate needles w/a passion!! I am a straight punk!! lol!!
I pray that your next fill is better than your 1st one Mama!! Are you getting in all your protein?? How much are you getting in, in a day? I have some really cool info on extra protein I can give you if you like. Looking forward to chatting with you soon. Keep me posted....Smooches!!

Hi Bobbie,
Good to hear from you, you know the rules just keep focused and doing some exercise and it will all happen for you. In reading posts from those who have done well they seem to add a bit more protein than others. You might try that as well. Otherwise I feel good about my progress. I have my first fill scheduled for Friday. Best of luck.

Correct, depending on your size - I weighed about 280 and mine was about an hour.
There is a combination of soreness and discomfort, a lot of which is dealing with your own mind. I had a fear of hurting myself so I was afraid to sit up.
Actually diet before surgery was important for me because I had a fatty liver so losing some weight before hand helps shrink the size of the liver and makes it easier for them to work on me. The diet before consisted of high protein shakes, broths and non-starchy vegetables. From the reading I've been doing every doctor varies so if they didn't mention it, it is probably not necessary.
After surgery, I have two week liquid, then move on to purees for another two weeks, then soft foods. So your six weeks seems normal to me.
Hope this is helpful.

Did he have you do an all liquid diet, or just cut back? Right now, I am doing 2 "Whey Protein" shakes a day, and grilled chicken and a salad for dinner. I go the 6th for my first visit. Brian (finance guy) said that I would do all of my pre-op stuff that day. Like the seminar, and nutrition stuff. I am hoping since I have already started a pre-op diet, I can get the surgery done sooner. We'll see!!
-
Izaiahsmommy-When are you starting your pre-op diet? I am starting mine on Sunday! What are you doing for yours? I am able to have 3 protein shakes and some other "liquids". I will get about 800 cals a day for pre-op! Oh boy! May I ask how much weight you want to lose?

Hi there, Crissy!
I am getting mine done at NorthWest Weight Loss Surgery Center in Everett. All they do for weight loss is Lap Band. Hearing that you are going to Swedish for yours makes me wonder if I have made a mistake. Just because Swedish is such a wonderful hospital. NWWLS has been wonderful. They have support meetings twice a month and open appointments for counseling so that part is nice.
I read about your infection... best of luck with that! Hope you are making a quick recovery and getting on top of it. I am on my post op diet. Three 110 calorie protein shakes and one 400 calorie meal a day. It is crazy. However, important because it shrinks the liver to make the surgery easier.
Thursday is my surgery. Should take four hours and then I can go home.
I will let you know how things were for me.
I am more nervous than I thought I would be. About the journey after the surgery and not the surgery itself.
Cheers,
Tanya

Hey Karlzmom and Jalivia! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys, but today is actually the best day I have felt all week. So okay, the surgery was Monday and of course that was hell and Tuesday wasnt great either. But I have actually been doing okay, no vomiting at all, just soreness around the bellybutton area. I have stuck to the mushy diet, I've tried all kinds of things, scrambled eggs, refried beans, peanut butter, cream of wheat, and protein shakes of course. I have even eaten some Wheatables. We took the kids out for ice cream and I had strawberry sorbet but I wanted a turtle sundae! How you feeling Karlzmom?

I'm doing pretty good can't complain much!! I just wish all reports were done & submitted to my dr.s office so they can submit it to my insurance already!! The wait is going to drive me insane gurl!! Wowwwwwwwww!!1 Way to go on the 10 lbs!! Your weight loss will pick up again walking is good you will be amazed by how fast 20 mins go by. If you have a Wii try the fitness games they are really good from what I read & friends that I know have it has helped them lose quite a bit of weight all the while, while having fun. Puree food is not really that bad if you like progresso soups try them their not bad when you puree them in a blender. You can also add an unflavored protein to it also to make sure you get enough protein in.....
