Hi Ellie, Congrats on your fill and your great wl thus far. I just got a fill yesterday. Granted it was only 0.3cc and I'm 4 years out. But the experience is the same nontheless I usually do liquids the first day (lots of drinks, Protein shake, maybe creamy soup). Because I've done this for awhile and know precisely how to listen to my band, I'll usually have something soft in the morning the next day than gradually transition into solids as the day passes on as long as I get no kickback from my previous meals. Examples include banana and yogurt in the morning. Super mushy, easy to pass. lunch would be something like Soup with soft veggies, cheese slice etc. Again, easy to pass but getting a little firmer with things that need to be broken down. dinner will be chili perhaps. Chili is great becaue it's already broken down but it's a true solid that can be chewed down to mushy. The key now is to go slow. Eat and appreciate how your band feels w/ each food and each bite. Do you feel restriction or are things just passing through? Either is good. If you are feeling restriction, learn to feel a sense of satiety with your meal. Don't force yourself to eat everything on your plate if you are getting signals you are done. This will fluctuate during the day most likely. Another thing to remember..what worked before your fill may not work after. Some people can eat eggs for 6 months after even their 3rd fill..but than fill 4 BAM eggs are an issue. So just don't assume anything...experiment with each food every time after a fill. Hope your fill keeps you happy until it's time for your next one. Keep going and think green

Is my band too tight?
stateofzen replied to JJLaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lunch: Baked meatballs with tomatoes (I bake about 12 meatballs and have several servings out of it-- perfect microwave dish) Caprese salad (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, tiny tiny bit of olive oil and vinegar) Salad greens with low carb dressing Chicken salad with a few walnuts and grapes Sometimes i'll make a packet of oatmeal or cream of wheat if I'm desperate; I also keep yogurt in my work fridge -
PS... for my first week post op I was on liquids. My doctor didn't recommend that I stay on the icky protein shake that I had to take for 2 weeks pre-op. I could hardly handle those for 2 weeks, let alone any more than that. If the yogurt went well, you should try some clear liquids and some thin soups (tomato, chicken/beef broth, etc.). I found that I had some weird bloating pains in my tummy for the first week or so, as well. They subsided as I started feeling better.

Just banded Wednesday and starving
Shorty81367 replied to Shorty81367's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I am sitting here so depressed and have been crying. I keep thinking that I might have made a mistake by doing this and I'm mad at myself for allowing myself to gain the weight and not be able to take it off on my own. I really don't want to be regretting this decision so early on and it's so much harder than I thought it would be. I just took a yogurt and added a little bit of lactaid milk to it and added some protein and had a couple of spoons of that to try to take the sick hunger pains away. I think that it might have helped a little bit but I'm too scared to have more than a few spoons of it. Is it normal for us to be this depressed so soon. I heard that it would be later on when you start dealing with the food issues but this is so early and I really don't want to get so down and out that I can't get back up. It is really sad and I'm so worried that I might have made a mistake by doing this. -
Lactose Intolerance After Surgery
sassypants replied to Sherry77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m lactose intolerant anyway not just because of this I use lactose free products like milk cheese and yogurt. You just have to look out for milk sugars in things that’s what disagrees with you, so you don’t have to switch to like soy or anything you can if you want (but I find it kinda yucky) I can have some normal stuff in really small amount like if I run out of my milk I can have a cup of tea with normal milk or if I want some cheese and its not mine I can have it but if you try too much or everyday your going to suffer for it. -
Lactose Intolerance After Surgery
Lissa replied to Sherry77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm lactose intolerant after surgery. I have avoided milk, ice cream, and cottage cheese since those three bother me. I can still eat cheese and yogurt with no problem. I think it's getting better. I had some cottage cheese the other night with a slice of tomato and it sat well in my sleeve. Rex is finally starting to accept some dairy! Yay! -
I FINALLY got a job (after almost 2 years of being unemployed). This is my first job since surgery and I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to handle eating and making sure I'm not starving myself or overeating. I just started working on this past Monday and this week, I've brought the following for food: Monday: carrot sticks, sandwich (chicken lunch meat and cheese), yogurt Tuesday: ummm....nothing. It was birthday, along with another woman in the office, so we went to Olive Garden. I ate capellini pomodoro and chocolate cake. Yeah, I know. Wednesday: leftovers from Olive Garden Thursday (today): egg salad on a bed of lettuce, mandarin oranges. And of course Water ALL DAY. I've been getting up and eating Breakfast, usually consisting of egg white and either 1/2 a piece of wheat bread with sugar free jelly, or egg whites with 1/2 a bagel. I'm kind of lost on what to eat for breakfast, other than eggs, which I'm already sick of. However, by the time 10am rolls around, I'm ready to eat my arm but I just suffer until it's time to eat lunch at 12:30. Any suggestions on things to take to snack on, or perhaps more filling foods to eat for lunch itself? Thanks everyone!

How do you handle work?
M2G replied to Fleur de lis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ideas for portable protein: cheese sticks greek yogurt Protein bars (be careful about ingredients, calories, carbs, sugar alcohols, etc.) hard boiled eggs protein shakes RTD (ready-to-drink) beef Jerky (again being careful about nitrates, sugar added, etc....I usually make my own) cottage cheese ( you can buy little individual cups or just use your own tupperware and fill it and keep it in a cold pack) I hope you actually get a BREAK ...you SHOULD be having a snack at 10am ...esp. if you are feeling hungry. I think they are legal rules that employers must follow in regards to working x number of hours and getting x number of breaks per hours worked. I think .5 hour lunch is fine, but then again I'm a contractor (I work for my former employer on a contract basis...no benefits, or legal lunch breaks, etc.) and I used to work 10 hour days and take only .5 hour lunch. It seemed like more than enough time. Now when I work, I never take a lunch break but hardly ever work more than 8 hours in a day. I eat at my desk, because my job is in front of a computer so it's not a big deal to eat and work at the same time. I don't take a lunch because I only get paid for the time worked, so I would rather get in, do my work and get out than take any type of unpaid break. -
I'm 10 1/2 weeks post op and have been very blessed in that I can eat almost anything with no problem. My issue is that I really don't eat dairy (no reason, just don't like eggs, cheese, cottage cheese or yogurt). I do drink milk, but I know we are supposed to try to get our Protein from real food instead of shakes. I'm so sick of eating meat three meals a day! Don't really feel like eating it in the morning, and can only come up with so many ideas on what to cook. If I'm sick of eating this way after a few weeks, I'm scared of how I'll adapt to this new eating plan for life. I sure would appreciate any help any of you can offer. Mahalo!

I am 8 months post op and I am so tired of meat. I have gotten into the habit again of relying on Protein shakes to get enough protein in. I do eat eggs but only 3 times a week, I hate pork, will not eat it nor will I eat lamb or veal but I was that way before surgery. I will eat cottage cheese (low fat), cheese and yogurt. I guess this is my new life and I need to get used to it. UGG, How many veggies are you getting in each day? 1/2cup, 1 cup and how many fruits? I have 1/2 to 1 cup of fruit at Breakfast and that is all. Does that sound too low to anyone? thanks for the feedback. Cheryl

How the Pre-op Diet is Feeling Post-op
Cariboom replied to alwaysvegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're the same date as me and it sounds like our plans are roughly the same. I have drank too fast a couple times and now know what "full" feels like. I am not sure that I am craving or hungry per-se, but my body feels like it wants something but doesn't know how to tell me what that is. Not having problems with fluids whatsoever, thank goodness. I am looking for a savory or at least less-sweet option and plain custard sounds really good right now. We're allowed yogurt and very soft things on day 7, so I am looking forward to trying some. -
PostOp Diet... what can I have?
smiley922 replied to mrsaizsha_101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on the 14th, and at this time I am allowed full liquids, which includes low fat creamy Soups, and yogurt with no fruit added, no pulp etc, with under 10 carbs per serving. same goes for the Protein drinks, under 10 carbs per serving, I have been using Premier Protein. This goes for 2 weeks post surgery, at the beginning of the third week, I can add the pureed foods, grits, 1 egg, refried Beans, with protein added. see if the NUT can email you your plan so you don't damage your pouch. -
I never puréed or blended, except shakes. I made good low fat chili, no lumps whatsoever, and we sipped it at five weeks out. Soups, bisque, no crust quiche, eggs, small curd cottage cheese, yogurts, and I made a lot of low fat soups myself. We made sure we took exceptionally small bites, and enjoyed the flavors.

PLEASE RESPOND. . .YOUR INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
wildrose1966 replied to Banditiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By the looks of your menu, I would think that you have enough calories in your day to add a morning snack (protein - yogurt, almonds, cottage cheese) and an afternoon snack.........Most aim for about 1200 calories/day. You are only a month out, stop at a cup/8oz and drink your way to your next snack or meal............bandster hell. -
Just banded Aug 13 and have a question!
LollyMoe replied to chris9plus1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 8/11/09 and have now moved to full-liquids. I can have a protein shake with skim milk, tea, strained cream soups, broths, plain yogurt and of course water, water, water. Feeling good. Just one site that is still tender. Not walking much except in house from room to room and back. Will have to lose some more to make my legs work again, I guess. Lots of pre-surgery problems with them but looking forward to getting better. Huge amount of gas gurgling..... -
So I had my band placed on August 30. I am still feeling horrible and I was wondering if anyone felt the same way or if I should be concerned. Everytime I drink one of my protein shakes (which I had for 2 weeks pre-op with no problems) my stomach gets really upset and I start to cramp and then it seems to go right through me. I have gotten to the point where I don't even want to drink them because I am afraid of what will happen. I have tried immodium, mylanta, tums, and gas-x. I am getting so fatigued and frustrated. I broke down and had a yogurt last night and it went down really well and my stomach felt ok. At this point I am totally regretting having this band placed. Please help!

How did you get past the liquid stage? Feeling hopeless
lauraellen80 replied to cuchas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not yet! My surgeon's phase diet doesn't allow for raw fruits & veggies until after 6 weeks. Your new tummy will not tolerate raw fruits right now, especially ones with seeds like strawberries. What Protein shakes have you tried? My favorites are Unjury's Vanilla and chocolate Splendor flavors, and Syntrax Nectar's "Sweets" flavors, especially Double-Stuffed Cookie. Syntrax offers a sample pack of their Nectars, including a bunch of fruity ones (not my thing, but lots of people like them). My surgery was the same day as yours, and right now I'm doing 1/3 c. of a protein shake at a time, finishing 1 shake per day. My surgeon's PA said I could use soy or almond milk during the first week, when I'm not supposed to have dairy. I'm using unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and it's good. Edited to add: I do have to admit that I'm also tired of Clear Liquids already, too! I am going to be so excited to have pudding and yogurt and strained Soups next week! And I'm already fantasizing about refried Beans and scrambled eggs on the soft foods phase... -
Preparing for after surgery
5McK replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't stand the Protein shakes post op! The first 10 days I lived on gatorade and chicken broth. Once on pureed foods it was mashed potatoes and gravy and scrambled eggs. And everything had to be room temperature. I couldn't stand hot or cold in my stomach. Now that I'm on mushy foods, I'm trying to broaden my palate, but its not easy. My stomach can't stand yogurt, sour cream, Protein drinks and my Vitamins. I literally get nauseas and sometimes even heave. I hope you have someone who can run to the store for you for the first week or so after surgery. I was lucky in that even though I had stocked up on those protein drinks, my husband understood and would run to the store for more Gatorade and broth when I ran out. Just listen to your body and good luck! -
PostOp Diet... what can I have?
gaudjosl replied to mrsaizsha_101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pudding is my fav lol. I am on day 8 as surgery was Oct 16. I have oatmeal and creamy soups with mushed carrots. I'll do rutabaga tomorrow. Greek yogurt I tried again today. It has been giving me the runs. Trying to balance getting 60 to 80 grams of protein ( seems impossible) and drinking water. I love this sleeve! -
Ruby Reds are a GREAT invention, they give you a full day serving of fruits & vegtables in a small scoopful and they taste great. They were a gift to me and they've lasted quite well through my on again off again healthy fads/trends. You can put the RubyReds in anything, water, juice, etc.. I've noticed it's especially good with Berry Propel and the Healthy Balance Brand Pomergrante/blueberry/Acai blend juice. I originally found the Healthy Balance juices as an alternative for my diabetic mother, but quickly found out they taste great. Even my 9 yr old nephew likes them and has for last 2 years we've been buying them. That being said today I made my best shake yet, it tasted just like a smooth from Planet Smoothie or someplace like that... 2oz vanilla lowfat yogurt 1 scoop designer whey french vanilla protein powder 1 scoop ruby reds 4oz Healthy Balance Pomergrante, blueberry, acai blend juice. Handful of ice Stir or blend either way is delicious. If you try the shake let me know what you think.

I couldn't do the protein drinks either. Try plain lowfat Greek yogurt; add fruit flavored protein powder (I like Jay Robb pina colada from GNC) to fruit jello mix and prepare the normal way; add some vanilla or chocolate protein powder to vanilla or chocolate pudding mix and prepare the normal way.

(Late Nov Early Dec Surgeries) - About 6 Weeks Post Op...
ginsyn76 replied to worm2872's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in my six week out and I usually get 50-60 grams of protein daily all from food sources. I do not like the powders or liquid additives. I mostly eat shrimp tuna fish chicken or soft roast beef. I eat yogurt, cottage cheese and still some chicken baby food. I'm so busy rating these things that i can't eat any vegetables or other things. I'm still stuffed after 3-4 ozs. I average around 500 calories a day and usually burn 200/300 with exercise daily. I walk 1-2 miles a day. Fluid has been a real burden I'm not much of a drinker so I get about 24-32 oz daily. At four weeks I had lost 35 lbs I don't feel like I've lost hardly anymore the last couple weeks since kicking up the exercise but I haven't weighed just my clothes don't seem to fit differently. Hoping its just some PMS bloating! -
Don't worry about exercise right now until your cleared and feel good. I used to go out around 9 pm and walk my neighborhood but only a little at a time and increased as I felt better. Just a little walk will help... I walked at night bc it hurt to wear a bra with my incisions lol Go online.. You can get some great recipes for each stage. A lot of the recipes use yogurt in them to help with protein. My problem was and is I don't like yogurt either ???? I have some recipes if you need

This may be bad advice...but I ate the oikos zero yogurt, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, and fell in love with fat free cottage cheese! Weird, I know, but it tasted amazing and went down easy. Hang in there!!! I'm 2 weeks post OP...we will have real food eventually, just less of it! What types of food can you enjoy down the road?
playlikeworldchamps replied to jjyogalove's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am 20 months out from VSG and can eat anything pretty much but a lot less. Went to Carrabbas monday night and got the small portion of the rose chicken. It was so delicious and even the broccoli was great. And the warm bread first. Wow! The good and bad news was that I could only fit one small piece of warm bread, 2 bites of my daughters Soup, half the small piece of chicken and 2 pieces of broccoli. I wanted it all! If I wasn't staying in a hotel I would have kept the rest for leftovers. Considering the small portion is under 600 calories and I ate half, I was very very full for less than 400 calories. In fact I rarely have that much in one meal because it makes me too full and I can't drink for a couple hours. So bottom line. Yes normal food in small portions is enjoyable. Do I eat like that normally. No I don't. I was on vacation. Today I was back to greek yogurt, cheese and crackers, and dense Protein as first food choice. Also I am one of the rare sleevers that have dumping syndrome if too much sweet stuff I can't tolerate more that 2 bites of ice cream. And dumping limits my addiction to sweets. Sometimes makes me sad but then I remember the 140 pounds I lost and can live with less sugar.
