Hi everyone my name is Kacy! I started the gastric bypass process back in April and my RnY surgery date is set for September 30th! When I started my program I was 257 pounds, today at my pre op class I weighed 243 (14 pound loss). I start a two week liquid diet next Monday and I really want to be at 235 by my surgery date. Is that a reasonable goal to get to before surgery??? The reason I picked 235 is because my long term goal is 135 and that will mean I have exactly 100 pounds to lose after surgery. How much do people lose on a two week liquid diet? Am I aiming to high???

Welcome to the board! Curious about eating food right away?? We have all had different instructions from our doctors, but generally we all have been on liquids like the first two weeks. Hmmmmm, I wondering what the purpose of liquids are, do you think it's just to ensure we don't stretch our new stomach or vomit or something. When I started mushy, I was scared I was going to do damage or something. And, my doctor put Tuna at like week 4 or 5. That seems mushy to me....any opinions?

I am 9 weeks out and have dropped 50 lbs and 2 pant sizes! I feel the difference and it is wonderful. I can see the difference in my face, but maybe not so much the rest of my body yet (at least in these photos). I picked up my 30 lb niece the other day and could not believe I used to have more than one and a half of her on me all the time. So excited that the numbers just keep going down. I am walking my first ever 5k next week and am so proud of myself so all I have achieved so far! Best decision ever! Before WLS (gray) & Today (pink)

Way to go on your progress so far, 3 sizes down is awesome!

Hi Kiki, 11 pounds the first week is VERy good. Don't worry it does slow down. I have had MANY slow times. Some months I have lost nothing, on average I lose about 2-4 pounds a month. It is slow but as long as it's down I am happy. I know why it is slow I don't exercise and many days I don't make the right food choices, but I love my band and feel great! Keep in touch and let me know how your doing! Welcome to the Band world!

11/20 - first full day home -- ahhhh sleeping in my own bed last night was fabulous. I am taking my pain meds every 6 hours. No hero here. Today I start following my nutritionist's instructions. 2 oz Protein shake, wait 1/2 hr, Breakfast, wait 1/2 hr, 2 oz Protein Shake and more fluids as tolerated, lunch, 2 oz protein shake and more fluids, dinner, 2 oz protein shake. Each meal consists of 1/2 cup of stuff, like Jello, popsicle, crystal light, any clear fluids. I'm on clear liquid for one week post op. Here's what I actually managed to get in: total of 4 oz protein shake, 1/4 cup jello, 10 oz other fluids. Total: 18 oz Fluid. I'm not having any trouble getting stuff down, but I can't stay awake and I know rest is the most important thing today. Got on the scale and gained 8 pounds over presurgery weight from the fluid they pumped in me. Time to start peeing more.

11/19 - first day post op! My pain has been managed and the gas is minimal. I feel so much better than I expected, especially now that I have my blood sugar under control. But last night was a horror. I felt awful (I think due to blood sugar and exhaustion) and they woke me up more than once an hour for vitals etc. Here's the worst: I rang the bell for the floor nurse to come turn on my light so I could walk to the bathroom. She answered, and couldn't hear anything from me, kept going "hello? is anyone there?" while i kept saying "yes i'm here". Then she hung up. AND NEVER CAME TO CHECK ON ME. Freaked me out. Did it again, same result, and I finally dragged myself to the nurses station to see what's up. OMG a ruckus ensued. Head nurse freaking out on her staff, not allowing me to be left alone until she found another room with working call button system, sitting up waiting for them to move me for 2 hrs in the middle of the night. It was the worst night I could have imagined, and my bf is considering a lawsuit based the lack of response and the diabetes (lack of) care. I am not litiginous, and will talk him out of it. Passed the leak test!!! And got served this beautiful meal, on doilies!!! 2 oz Protein shake, 2 oz broth, 2 oz Jello. Yum! No trouble keeping anything down, and I'm cleared to go home. Thank god. Long visit from the Nurses Manager to follow up on last night's fiasco before we left. John is still incensed. I just want to get out of here. Feeling great physically, but I'm sure it's due to the pain meds. Pulling the drain out SUCKED!!! It was horrible, but very very short in endurance so don't worry about it. 3 seconds and you're done.

Struggling with Pre-Op diet..not in the way you think! (long)
MINI-Me replied to goodlife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sory you are having such a difficult time with pre-op. I didn't have a plan like that, but I'm sure I would have had problems too. Just try to take it one day at a time, or one scoop at a time. You will get through this. As far as post-op, MOST of us had difficulty getting in our Protein the first weeks or even that first month. It will get easier. Just remember that it is temporary - you will be back to real food shortly. Best of luck. -
Different Diet, please help.
Iluvcarbs replied to Squishee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was straight liquid for 1 week post-op including protein shakes. 2nd week post-op pureed foods only and protein shakes. 3rd week post-op Soft foods (eg tuna, ground meats, cottage cheese). 4th week post-op you are back to reg. food. -
There is a reason I never trusted a fart the first 6 weeks of my sleeve. It mostly seemed to be with diet and not the sleeve. As you get back to normal food and if you still have this issue, that's when you need to call the doc IMHO.

I was also banded March 5th and had my first fill March 31st and a second one scheduled for April 20th. Its not the "best" feeling ordeal, but its bearable... I ate pretty much anything I wanted 2 weeks after surgery, felt absolutely no restriction and after my 1st fill of 4cc's still feel very little restriction.. Im hoping it will get better after the next one.... Good luck.

I eat it...but I use it as an afternoon "pick me up" before my workout. 1 Tbsp. maybe 2x/week.

No drain = swollen abdomen?
Kindle replied to Butter Britches's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a drain for 3 days, but my belly was so swollen and bloated I looked like I was pregnant. It was about 2 weeks before I could wear anything besides stretch waist pants. Even after that my jeans felt uncomfortable depending on where they sat on my belly. -
No drain = swollen abdomen?
gastricsleever replied to Butter Britches's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was the same as kindle's. Drain for 3 days but I was SO bloated! Wore stretch pants and dresses for 3 weeks. -
Hi, I'm one week out from being banded and finding the same thing. Mid day a 1/2 cp of cream strained soup feels like a gallon bubble in my chest, the next time, feels like I could eat 2 cups! Having the same worries but seems to be common, so gonna try to trust the band and relax. hang in there!

2 week surgiversary today and I lost 10lbs first week and for this last week I've been bouncing between 228.4-230.2. Today I was 229.2. I'm getting in all my water and some plus all my protein. Doctor said to experiment with foods and I have, no problems with anything! My caloric intake has not been more than 720, but mostly between 550-650. I've also gone back to the gym and have been walking 30 on the treadmill. Just so frustrated seems I'm working harder and loosing weight now that I was before surgery and now weight won't come off! Thanks for letting me vent :/

I report to the hospital this Friday at 6:30 and am scheduled for VSG at 7:30am! I've been on a clear liquid diet since pre-op last Friday. I'm so weak, shaky and light-headed from the clear liquids! I was told emphatically that I have to get 60 grams of protein per day but there's no way on a clear liquid diet! I've been drinking Ensure Clear Protein drinks and drinking various kinds of broth, but there's no way I'm getting 60 grams, maybe 30. And, all this, pre-op is without intake amount restriction. Next week, post-op, it's still clear liquid AND I'll be limited to what my new tummy can hold. Other than that, I'm nervous and excited! Between the surgeon, the nutritionist and the various nurses, they've all scared me to death! I'm really healthy though which is in my favor going into this. My blood pressure is low to normal, my cholesterol is low to normal, blood sugar normal, etc... but I'm still nervous. From my weigh in, bloodwork, EKG, etc... last Friday, and this morning, I'm already down 11 pounds! I feel it though...

I had my final pre-surg nutrition appointment last week and she explained to me that I'd need chewable Vitamins post-op, for multi and Calcium citrate (and potentially Iron, depending on lab work pre-surg), as well as liquid b12. I've been looking at all the chewables out there, and wondering if those who have gone before me have insight as to what vitamins worked best for them, either for quality or pricing. Thanks for any replies!

Chewable vitamins feedback?
aaonthego replied to Indigobunny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If possible, get samples or the smallest possible unit of several brands. I never had issues with sublingual B-12. But on the other vitamins, I stocked up on Barimelts brand and started taking them when I was cleared to start taking vitamins (~1 month po stop). Lo and behold, they make me nauseous! I recently found a multivitamin and vitamin D/iron patch that I started this week because I couldn't handle the vitamin induced nausea anymore. -
Welcome to the club! Just sip, sip, sip. Took me till day 3 or 4 to be able to sip enough and get my fluids in all day. Recover soon!

I'm 7 weeks post op, I have lost 24 pounds, was hoping I would lose faster. But I am very thankful for the pounds lost. I need help here, I can not "go" without taking milk of magnesia, has anyone else experienced this so far out??

I'm 5 weeks out and a couple of days ago I started having this stinging pain on my left side that starts at the top of my rib cage and goes down to one of my incisions. It's worse when I bend or sit. The pain is not on top of my skin but beneath. Has anyone had similar pain?
