  2. I need help please. I just do not know what to eat. What can I have and what to stay away from. Can someone please help. Is there something out there that tells you what to eat and what to stay away from? I had my sleeve on 1/20/10 and am just real sick of eatting the same old food all the time. HELP PLEASE. :thumbup1:
  3. Hi All, I was sleeved just over 6 months ago and I am struggling with the "Perfect" goal weight. Here is the deal...I have a history of failing every diet I have ever tried. (I know this is a lifestyle change not a diet..yada yada) I have a little success then I quit, that has been my life. I chose this surgery so I couldn't fail. Now I am feeling like a failure again. I have lost 80 pounds and feel amazing. I feel thin and beautiful and love wearing new clothes. I am about 20 pounds from my goal of 150 pounds but feel really good where I am at. My doctors still tell me I am overweight, my Nut wants me to increase my calories to lose more weight. I jog the soccer fields 4x a week and I think my weight is set at about 170-173 depending on the time of day. My husband says I could maybe lose 10 more pounds but definately not 20. I don't know if he is being nice or telling the truth (I know we are having happier "married couple time"). Here is the point of my rambling. Given my history of giving up, am I in denial like I was before surgery about my weight? Should I try harder to lose more weight? I went from a 22 to an 8. I am 5'6 1/2. I just feel like I am never going to hit everyone's perfect number for me. How can I lose this much weight and still feel like a failure...like I am doing something wrong ALL THE TIME. I feel like I have been chasing this magic number for years and I am finally in a place I am happy with, but no one in the medical field thinks I am healthy yet (*cursing stupid BMI chart*). My question to you all is have you struggled with the perfect goal number? Have any of you adjusted your number up? Should I trust the doctors/NUT and increase my fitness to 6X a week to lose more weight? I am attaching my before pic (never been shared before) and a pic taken with my amazing hubby this weekend for a visual reference. ***Note to pre-sleevers*** My sister is a photgrapher and insisted she do a shoot the weekend before my surgery. I was crying I was so embarressed. Now I am really grateful to have these photos. Have a friend or family member do them...you will be glad you did later. Disclaimer: I cant find the spell check, so please ignore any errors.

    Cooked Rice

1 lb lean ground beef 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning mix 1 egg, beaten 2 cups cooked rice 4 -6 bell peppers 1 (19 ounce) can diced tomatoes 1 (15 -16 ounce) jar salsa shredded cheddar cheese sour cream Directions: Combine beef, onion, seasoning mix and egg in a large bowl. Add rice and mix well. Cut peppers in half lengthwise; remove seeds and membrane. Spread tomatoes on the bottom of an ovenproof 12 X 9 inch baking dish. The liquid from the tomatoes will reduce during cooking so if (like me) you like lots of sauce, add about a cup of Water. This also helps make the peppers softer. Place peppers, cut side up, on top of the tomatoes. Spoon beef mixture into peppers, mounding as necessary. Top each pepper with salsa. Bake in preheated 375°F oven for 40-45 minutes or until beef is cooked thoroughly and peppers are soft. Cover each pepper with cheese and return to oven, under the broiler, until the cheese melts- less than a minute, so watch carefully! Serve with sour cream and additional salsa
  5. Pre- op, I weighed 239. I was 231 day of surgery 8/7/12. Weighed myself on 10/15/12, and I weight 191.
  6. The thing is I am sure you are eating a lot less than before the band (we were all massively overeating or we wouldnt have been obese). For me, (an old dog in maintenance a long time) I eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food at each meal which can be 4 to 5 times a day. I really cant eat more than that of any food (I have no sliders) and I done eat any low cal or diet food. As I lost weight my band did loosen and I had to get fills to keep losing. My first green zone was at 6cc in a 10 cc band and took 3 fills to get there. Then I leveled off at about 180 lbs for MANY months until I figured out to go get a fill. Once I did I started losing again easily and then I plateaued at 155...I got 0.3ccs and in a couple of months went to 140.

  9. Rissa:)

    Hi!

Hi everyone, my name is Rissa and I am 30 years old. I am in the very beginning stages of researching lapband surgery for myself. I have struggled with my weight for the past 10 years.....I hope I can learn some information from people who have gone through the surgery and see if maybe it's the right thing for me. Thanks!
  10. You look great, you feel great, you are worlds healthier. I think meeting in the middle with the 10 pound loss seems like a good idea. However, this is not something that even ends. If you lose ten pounds this year, you still have the rest of your life to decide whether or not you want to lose those extra 10 pounds after. 10 pounds is certainly not going to kill you, even if you never lose it. My point being, you can ALWAYS reevaluate later. I think you are doing amazing though. Do not let it get you down. It is their job to try and get you into your normal BMI category, don't take it personally. You know you have done great and you deserve to be able to enjoy the rewards of that success =)
  11. I called my surgeon because I have been EXTREMELY sleepy, needing 10 hours of sleep or I'm a zombie all day and I feel frustrated that I've only lost 2 pounds that past 3 weeks and it's only been 11 weeks since my surgery. I lost 15 pounds the 1st month, 10 pounds the 2nd month and as of this morning it looks like a total of 3 pounds so far this 3rd month, but it keeps bouncing up and down. My surgeons office said that since I was a self pay, that I should go to my pcp and ask them to do blood work. So instead of calling my PCP, I called my Endocronologist (thyroid doc). Had my apt. yesterday with my thyroid doc. 1. my lab work showed that my TSH was low, it was 0.032 and it should be between .358 and 3.74. 2. Also my WBC (white blood cell) was low, 4.3 and should be 5.0-10.0. 3. And my RDWSD was high at 52.2 and should be between 36.4-46.3. And my RDWCV (red blood) was high, 16.4 and should be 11.5-14.5. 4. He also said my Vitamin D was a little low for a thyroid patient, but my B12 was high (probably because I take the 5000mcg every day) 5. And he said my Iron was low, but didn't say what I should do about that. I'm wondering if it could be because I have not been getting hardly any veggies or fruits, i've been focusing on Protein. Any suggestions? I take my 2 Multivitamins and B12 every day. 6. I told him I have to take Unisom or Benadryl every night to sleep and he said that consistent use of Benadryl (antihistamines) can cause weight gain and that because I grind my teeth (badly) I'm not getting through all the sleep cycles. He prescribed Klonopin .5mg for me to try instead. He raised my synthroid from .088mcg to .112mcg. I'm wondering if this will help my weight loss and my energy???? He also prescribed weekly shots of Bydureon. I'm a little nervous about starting these. Is anyone else on this medicine? I tried Byetta several years ago, but they made me very nauseous when I started the higher dose and couldn't take them. He said this newer drug has less side effects. Sorry this is soooooo long, but I know I can count on all the wonderful friends from this forum to share their experience or their expertise if they are a nurse or doctor. I hope this may help some others on here as well. Thanks so much!

  13. Hi everyone! Im a sleever who achieved goal weight 9 months post op. Im currently under goal but would like to loose another 10lbs.. but thats not the point of this post! Love to hear from anyone who has ran a marathon, im aiming for a 4 hour goal time and currently running 5 days a week and increasing distance by 10%. No injuries yet (except my currently broken wrist from my downhill mountainbike hobby!). Im a plant based runner who is more or less a veggie. I do not eat processed foods - and by processed i mean food with anything on the label that is not an actual food. No ****. I live in New Zealand, so thankfully we eat very differently here and this has been easy. Any tips from experienced runners very welcome. I have an excellent baseline of fitness as I've been running since 6 weeks post op and credit it with my success.

    Sleeve Buddy!

Mine is also set for January 10. May I join the group, Adriane? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. @ My two cents is to set 10 lb. mini goals with no date attached. 10 lbs. is very doable. This way you are only completing against yourself. The other type of goal that I like to use is dress size. Stick with a particular brand so it is consistent (I like Coldwater Creek). Good luck to you
  16. Hello everyone, I had my surgery on Monday, 3/10/14, and I am doing pretty good but I have been having esophageal spasms since coming out from surgery, it feels like tight chest pain that lingers for a couple seconds and then relaxes. My doctor is aware and I'm told that these are more related to the hiatal hernia that was also repaired, that I didn't even know I had, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same thing and how long they took to go away. They make it hard to drink anything and right now I am far from reaching the amount of Fluid and Protein I am supposed to be drinking daily.

    Post-Op Liquid Diet?

My nutritionist has us follow this plan: Preop: 10 day liquid (16 oz total Protein shake throughout the day, broth, sugar free Jello and popsicles) 1st 24 hours postop: Clear liquids only 1st 2 weeks postop: 3 meals a day (no more than 4oz) that can fit through a straw (without using a straw) with 2 Snacks (protein shake). Soups mostly, but oatmeal and soggy cereal are ok. Weeks 3-4 postop: Soft diet...basically anything pureed. Adding meats 3 meals a day. 2.5 oz solid and 1 oz nonstarchy veggie or fruit. Canned tuna and chicken, deli meat, eggs, Beans, etc. Snack 2 protein shakes (4 oz each) 1 month postop: normal diet From a nutrition standpoint, a full 6 weeks of liquids does not seem healthy to me and it's nearly impossible to get enough calories in without becoming malnourished. It does not take the body that long to heal from this procedure. Did you see a nutritionist or just your doctor for the diet info? Please note! This is an opinion! People need to follow their own doctor or nutritionist plans! We don't know you or your needs! Most surgeon's do not have such a liberal diet plan./ thanks, Karen

    Starbucks?

Bulletproof with stevia & monk fruit powder for me. To get my coconut oil/butter through security I freeze it and pull it out right before I leave. The baristas will look at you funny but 9 times out of 10 when I ask them to dump my Americano in the blender with my stuff, they do it. You can add unflavored Protein powder to it and have the same protein/calories as a Protein shake with none of the carbs but this is not for the fat-averse. So Tired

Hi My surgery was on 10/9. I too have the hunger pains in my stomach. I am tired but trying to walk a bit. As for protein what helps me is a protein bullet. New Whey protein has 42 grams of protein in 3.1oz. I do maintain almost exclusively a high protein diet with pureed chili, and pureed ground beef, beans, and lots of water.

    So Tired

Hi NFaith. Congrats on your banding. Your date was close to mine. Mine was done on 10/2/08. So you only needed to be on liquids for a week? My Dr. wants me on liquids for two weeks. How did you get the ticker? And add your dates to your relpys? Was it in your profile where they ask you if you want to add an avatar? What about the dates your Dr.'s name and the Smashing pumkin? I like to see your replies. I know when it is you!

Looking For A Workout Buddy In The Stl

I'm out in Crestwood, and have a club fitness membership. We go to the club at Watson and Laclede Station. I was banded 10/26/2011. Send me a message if you want to get together to work out, or maybe go to a zumba class I also had Wagner as my surgeon!
  23. Give it a little more time. It will get better. I suggest getting out and walking, even if only for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. This will help the gas resolve much faster and you are going to feel better. You are still early out and everone is different in their recovery and weight loss.

    Pre op diet

I'm assuming this is a ketosis diet like Optifast. If so may I suggest that you stick to it absolutely to the letter - no milk in tea or coffee, no sugar at all nor sugar-free stuff, and definitely no "cheats". I have been on the Optifast diet many times over the years and many times "tweaked" it a little, thinking that could do no harm given the very low calories of the diet (800 per day). For my pre-op diet I absolutely did it to the letter and from the second day on it was easier than ever before. I went into and stayed in ketosis easily. I was bored with my food choices but not hungry. And like others, 10 days after surgery I'm yet to feel any indication of hunger. Wasn't allowed to even drink Water till day 5 and other than having dry lips I wasn't bothered at all (I was on a drip so couldn't get dehydrated).
