Hey there! I am 5 days post op and I am not sure if I am getting all my Water, and this Protein is difficult. But it is a process, so we take it day by day. The gas is bad, but we walk! I think I am drinking too fast, but I am working on it. Everyone keep your head up and your liquids down! XXOO! -
5 day post-op dry gas heaving...
maestrita replied to mom2twoboysinfl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On another thread, a guy recommended the percussion massager for gas trouble. It works wonderfully. I am so glad I had one! I also got some mileage from the down dog yoga position, and making sure I was utilizing the laxatives. For me, the pain meds slow everything down, and that's when I get into trouble with gas. Having had lap surgery for another issue before, I knew to have the laxatives standing by. I recommend something gentle that you've used before, though. You don't want to make things worse by using a product that is too strong. You are doing very well for weight loss. I don't see what you're worried about there. Before banding, I've never lost weight that fast. It sounds like you are moving around some if you're at a soccer game 5 days out, so that's good, too. Hang in there. It must get better or else all of the folks here wouldn't have done it, right? That's what I tell myself when I feel icky. Hope you feel better soon. -
Does drinking water make you hungry?
LookingForMe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a problem with drinking the amount of Water that my doctor wants me to drink a day. I'm not drinking with meals or for 1 hour after a meal (as he directed). But 1 hr after the meal, as soon as I start sipping on water, I start to feel hungry. I know that it's probably because I'm washing all of my food through the band, but I don't know how else to get my liquids in! Does anyone else have this problem? Right now, I am getting around it by starting a bottle of water 1 hr before a meal, and telling myself that I have to drink the water and then wait about 10 more minutes before eating. I don't know if this is a good way or not, but it seems like the only way I can get in the fluids without being hungry. I am worried, though, about stretching my pouch by drinking the water so fast. BTW, I am 3 weeks post-op, and just starting on solids. -
7 weeks post op / solid food! No!
Djmohr replied to curlysue86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Incidentally, eating gets better with time. It took several months before I felt like I could eat normal. Every once in a while when I eat too fast, I have a problem as well and it causes me not to be able to eat my meal. That being said, it does get better. Promise. For now Water and clear fluids are critical to ensure that you are hydrated. food is secondary. My nut did not even have me start on Protein shakes until week 2. -
4 Weeks since Gastric Sleeve Surgery Today! Normal Loss? I Think I'm A Slow Loser
BethH replied to quazarfrog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sleeved on November 8th. By my two week post-op visit, I had lost 21 pounds. I started stage 4 of my diet plan and I feel that during my 3rd week I haven't lost as fast. I keep panicing thinking oh my, maybe my sleeve isn't working anymore, maybe I stretched it out, etc...it is a horrible feeling but I am trying not to get discouraged and keep telling myself that everyone is different. Thanks for this post. It is comforting to know that others go thru the same thing. Highest weight = 271 surgery date 11/8= 266 2 weeks = 245 3 weeks = 242 -
As time passes you will find that you can eat at almost any place..just pick the best dish for you. Wendy's is great to start with the Chili is great even pureed and then eat it regularly when you are craving fast food. Almost all places have a chicken dish..ask for a to go box..you will not be able to eat it all. Look at the appetizers...they may be the better choices as well as the smaller portions..not always though.

I'm Not Working Well With My Band. It's All In My Head....
BreBre posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I've had my band for 4 months now. I was 207 before I started the pre-op diet and I currently weigh 197. So yeah I haven't lost much. I did go down to 191.0 but started to gain it back. It seems like I am trying to find ways to get around my band so I can eat more. If I get stuck, I try to let it come up slowly, spit it out and go eat more. I know this isn't the right way to go about things You would think a "self-pay" would go full force into becoming healthier....but I haven't and I am completely upset over it. Also, I have been getting stuck A LOT lately. The other day I went to the hospital, because I was stuck for about 2 hours. When I got to the hospital, things went normal again. I'm thinking I slipped and it just fell back into place. Ever since, I have been getting stuck often. I also deal with a LOT of slime. When I puke stuff up, it's usually about 4oz of mucus! Should I be taking something every day for nasal drainage?? Could this be a contributing factor? This morning I woke up with a heavy pains in my chest. It felt like my ribs were swollen or aching... I know I am eating the wrong foods, I am eating way too fast and too large of bites. I try...but then I fall into my old habits. What can I do to change this mind set? I really want to be healthy..... I have had ONE fill. I am almost too scared to go back and see what they find out. But...I'm making the call tomorrow. Thoughts anyone? -

after a lifetime of eating fast it's really difficult to slow down. I am mostly successful but still after 2 years have times of stuck episodes from eating too fast I have started trying to slow down, chew more and avoid dry meats . Found out that I cannot do Chinese food , rice is not my friend. it's a learning process that goes on. -

well. i was gassy and was #2 queen but def not in discomfort you are posting..that being said, the advice to call your dr is accurate...but until you can get in to see them monday, how about walking, sipping your liquids to stay hydrated...that should help but def try not to throw up..if you eat or drink too fast, that could/can make you feel as if you have throw up..so go slow -
HELP! I'm on clear fluids need advice
amberganej replied to Band-aided's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on Clear fluids right now as well! But they told me to have 1 Opti-fast shake split into 3 everyday! So that is what I have been doing! I have also had a couple mouthfuls of really runny creams soups. I had some jello last night and old habits die hard, the first 2 bites were slow but i was not paying attention and i had a big bite and it hurt like hell! So I will not be having any jello or anything else. I do not want to mess things up! But I also feel weak and a little shaky! And very Hungery! -
well why dont you wait to see your dr before you start spazzing out on all the (dangers of lap band)....and what could or could not happen...if you are new to this sight, you will see many people who have had the band longer than you and are 100% fine and living a great life.... if you vomit, that is not good and has the makings of being too tight or you are eating too fast or too large of pieces... as for being (non-invasive)..its major surgery and they cut you to get into your stomach.... so again, write down all your fears and your concerns about the (dangers) and ask the dr about them as he is the best one to ask. hope you feel better.

Am i failing ALREADY!!!???
Amburmist replied to willowwaters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too, was frustrated so much at my slow rate of loss. I was seeing so many on these boards losing so much so fast that i was feeling defeated when i had only lost like 15lbs a month out. I am about 2.5 months out now and "only" down 33lbs (310 to 277 lbs) and have resigned myself to just "keep with the process" and what will happen will happen. There's not much else i can do. My body is just not one of those bodies that is going to lose quickly. But if i continue to follow the program, i can't go anywhere but down, right? My big butt cannot sustain all this weight only eating 600-700 cals/day, plus exercise. I thought that too, that people who didn't have this drastic-ass procedure lose weight at 1-2 lbs a week, same as what's happening to me now (unless im in a stall, which i have been in SEVERAL TIMES already in 2 months!). But, like a poster above said, the difference is I don't feel hungry all the time, like I'm forcing myself into this diet of starvation like i used to. It's easy now for me to only eat 4 ounces of food and push away from the table, for instance. Also, keep in mind, just because we're only eating 400-600 cals/day, doesn't mean we're going to lose faster. I, too, thought that initially. But when i started including more grams of healthy fats a day (almonds) and about 100 more cals, i started losing more. That's the hardest part, i think, is finding the sweet spot of cals/day, fat grams/day, protein/day, carbs/day, etc to where ur body doesn't think ur starving it. I think my body was holding onto weight before i started increasing the macros. And I'm ok now but i know I'll have to change again as my weight gets lower. Bottom line, its a pain in the butt...but it's way easier now post-op than it was pre-op, don't u think? Maybe it's a mental thing but whatever it is, I've finally given in to the process. Eat better, exercise daily. There's no magic trick (eg, rny bypass)...just tools to make it easier. You'll get there too! Ps. I still cannot get in 64oz of water/day. No matter what i do, i just can't do it. I'll continue to strive but as of now, i can only get in, max, 30-40oz/day. Yes it would be good if i could drink all sorts of water, but my body seems to be accepting of my lower intake...for now. It may change or it may not. I just have to wait and see. My point is...just keep trying. That's all we can do. -
Old habits die hard even a year after sugery
marfar7 replied to therealme89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my husband is done with his meal (and he eats really fast), he starts eyeing mine! Altho he's a low carber, so if it's like 1/2 of a burger I give him, he pulls the bun off, so I guess thats ok. In fact, I started eating faster so I could get more of my meal - thats backfired on me, for sure! Immediatly to the bathroom! Marci -
Are THESE the gas pains - Day 5 of banding
daisybug replied to thughes113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gas pains lasted for two weeks. I had the SHARPEST pain inside my left shoulder. It felt like i was being stabbed with a knife. I used gas-x and it helped a little, but mostly I was told to MOVE. The more you walk, the better. WALK WALK WALK ,, the more you move, the better. Even little frequent trips around your home. Hope it goes away fast for you!!! 278/232/180 -
Too high in calorie, too thick, it makes me gag, and yes, it has high protein, but that's about all it has. It doesn't have balanced nutrition, or other vitamins and minerals like Slim Fast or something. I didn't like it at all.

First time feeling some buyers remorse
catwoman7 replied to WhatATool:-)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
five years out here. I can eat anything except for really fatty meals. For example, before I had surgery, my husband and I loved to go out for Friday night fish fries. Two or three fish filets, battered or breaded and deep-fried, topped with tartar sauce, with a side of fries and a side of cole slaw made with mayo. That would be a no-go for me now. I'd be in the bathroom getting sick after eating that. I could maybe eat half of a deep-fried fish filet. Anything else I ate with it would have to be non-fatty. but pretty much anything else - yes. Just less of it. I used to be able to eat half a large pizza in one sitting. Now I can eat one or two pieces. but when you think about it - that's the way normal-sized women usually eat (unless they're exercise fiends or were blessed with great metabolism). A few weeks before surgery, I watched what my female co-workers ate for lunch. There were a couple who ate what at the time I would have called a normal lunch. A sandwich, chips, maybe a cookie. Or maybe take-out from a deli or a fast food place. But a majority of them ate things like a sandwich and an apple. Or a sandwich and some baby carrots. Or a thing of yogurt and bagel. Honestly, I think that's just normal in the non-obese world. Unfortunately, I might add... But that's the way I usually eat now, too. I started counting calories when I was about a year out. I still do. As long as I stay at or under 1700 calories most days of the week, I can maintain my weight. I do occasionally go over that - and sometimes by a lot (like on special occasions), but I try to keep that to only special occasions. Most days, I do stay within my range. That calorie range will vary for everyone depending on a lot of factors. But anyway, to address your first concern, yes - I could work ribs into my daily plan and still stay within my range... -

Karate chops for collarbone gas pain
JustWatchMe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to bluegudren's reply to another post, I just tried having my daughter do short, fast, hard karate chops on my collarbones and shoulder blades for trapped gas post-surgery. What relief! Wish I knew this yesterday! I felt like a baby being burped, but so what? LOL. Anything that helps!
