Nobody told me, so I'm still using it, don't meet with that doctor until, January 2019.

I started my journey in June and before I knew it, it was 10/17 and I was at the hospital at 6:00 am to get prepped for my surgery. It's a learning experience every day after that but trust me, even the preop diet is going to get you into the right mindset.

10/29 is so close now. Plus I really like the little quote for the day. Adjusting my sails is absolutely right.

Congratulations on your procedure. I am having the sleeve done 10/29. I wish I would have done it years ago. I do think about how life will be after. I know I got this and it will be just fine after the first few months. You will do great as well. Please keep us posted on your progress Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
My surgery was 10/24 I got home yesterday from the hospital and noticed the same left pain in my chest, again today.

I was sleeved on 10/10. I still go out. I just drink water now. All my friends know I had surgery so it hadn’t been an issue. I would rather go out and have water than miss out on the fun!

Sleeved 10/2. Have always been an extrovert who loves going out with friends, going to parties, bars, clubs, etc. but ever since I've been sleeved all these experiences have sucked. Not being able to eat or drink while everyone around me is is not fun at all. How did you guys cope with this? Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

If you ever travel outside of the USA you might discover that metric system is quite useful. I always wonder why it didn’t catch on in the US,it is far easier to have things in increments of 10

I wish I could introduce you to my niece. She had bypass surgery in 2012 at the tender age of 20. At 1st she questioned herself about it and now after losing over 200 lbs she wouldn't have it any other way. She's happy she's now able to do things she never thought possible. The crazy thing is she eats like a grown man smoke and still drink alcohol. She has an amazing social life just like a young adult would. So yes you may have to give up the things you love for a short time but soon you will be able and free to do as you please without gaining any weight back. My poor niece wants to gain 10 lbs but can't because every time she put on a few pounds it fall right back off. She is now 26 and she's so in love with the new her. It's ok to second guess yourself but don't worry about it. You will have your life back sooner than you no it. This time it will be the new healthier smaller you. Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?
Frustr8 replied to eudys3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well not super okay. Some things are no better, not adding up. Okay? 2nd attempt, Dr Noria said she opened me to 10mm, sounds fine except 2 weeks ago I went into 1st attempt strictured to 9mm. I like her, please, believe me, maybe she is doing well with what she us dealing with But , by accident, incidental or oopsie, I never lost conciousness during it all yesterday. Was positioned on my left side, left arm at 45 degree angle from bodyn right arm and hand straight out and flat on top of blanket, that was hand with IV present in wrist vein. This time instead of just nurse and Dr Noria, there was a young female doctor, her last name was the same as one cousin's ex-husband, our family Elizabeth Taylor, on 6th or 7th now. Think her lawyer charges her Bulk Rate. And then another one, male this time, mid40s, anesthesia even maybe pulmonary? Dr Holcombe puts the bite block in my mouth, okay. The male doctor says We are starting the sedation, you'll be asleep in just a minute or so. Okay, waiting, waiting, didn't happen. Wasn't uncomfortable, see they had sprayed the nasty deadening liquid in, you gargle it for 10 seconds, they count it down for you and then you swallow it down.Felt her introduce the endoscopy in, everything loose enough, did feel her🙉monkey-doodling around, a weird sensation, but I carried 3 babies, I got somewhat used to feeling aliens inside me. Dr Noria stood at hip level towards the bed end to do her instrumentation, okay, still watching, Finally she withdrew the tube, rather a swish-swooshy sensation, she says to the other doctors Time to wake her up ! then they removed the bite block, and she is rounding the foot of the bed, I squirmed over into my back and announced" I'm still Awake" other 2 acted like I had just woke up and was still in a dream -like state. Dr Noria got a an odd look on her face, best way I can describe,it; like a child caught running her fingers through a fresh-frosted cake and standing there licking her fingerm! She changed the subject "I opened you to 10 mm, don't change your diet, don't add things and we'll do this again in 2 weeks:" Still doesn't negate the fact that I was awake, does it? Think next time, I will sweetly ask " Are you going to put me to sleep like the first time or leave me awake like the second? And,it the sedation is a failure, should I wiggle my fingers to let you know? Don't want anything too tense so you can't get through. Wonder what she'll say then? Otherwise, except for teatering,on the verge of dehydration, chronically dizzy from insufficent calories, bewildered by this turn,of events, bored with what I can ingest, getting discouraged with the slowness of it all, skin incisions all look pretty healed , my abdome is starting to look like a balloon somebody let the air out of, losing 3-5 pounds a week, why not, it's not like I'm eating more than calorie need to keep body functioning But I am doing what I can when I can, praying my vitamins and minerals are, enough that I don't permanently injure myself.😝🎁🚩📦💞😝 -
Still not Fixed Up, ready to cater my Own Pity Party, I am losing much hopefulness about the whole Proceeding. And yesterday by accident? I never lost conciousness during the attempt, didn't hurt, had numbing medicine sprayed in the back of my throat that you gargle and then swollow down, stated I would be going to sleep-*- *well I laid there and watched on the monitor just like Dr Noria did. Asked the 2 other doctors, the nurse and most of all, Dr Noria? Did you guys realize I remained awake? Dr Noria got a look on her face like a child caught taking a swipe off the top of a freshly frosted cake and licking her fingers **Changed the subject, said" I dialated you to 10 mm", sounds good until you realise before first attempt I was at 9 mm.Progress IDK, do you? And I am at 7+weeks, a point where many, if not, all of my Surgery Day twins, Sleeve or RNY, are on purees and transitioning to soft and regular foods. Yeah ***I know we ALL make our journey toward final health, final size and weight goal, and a Bee-You-tee-full Future but OMG do I even have one? Someday I will be the scrawniest, sad-looking old broad seen, carting a thermos of bone broth or something similar. And watching the rest of the WLS community bouncing by happily. I expected hard, difficult but Mount Everest, Mount Denali even Kilimanjaro all in one, Nope didn't book for that?🎢🌆

Revision from lapband to sleeve
doublesuffcones replied to JacquieK's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I also had the lap band before I got my sleeve... my doc has seen recently published research that the band should come out 8 to 10 weeks before you get the sleeve. From what I understood while taking the band out it gives the doc a chance to get all the scar tissue broke up and healed before having the surgery for the sleeve. Which is what I had done. He was excited after surgery to tell me I have a normal sized sleeve instead of being a little bigger due to the scar tissue. I have my 2 week check up on Oct 31 so I am sure I will be on letting everyone what the official weight loss is ! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pre-Op Journey
hwequestrian replied to hwequestrian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I rode one of my horses yesterday.. My riding skills have declined as I gained weight the last few years. Not to brag, but I used to be able to ride the hair off a horse. I could ride 10-20 miles and be ready for more. Yesterday, I realized that I’m no longer riding, just trying not to fall off. All I could think about while trying to enjoy spending time with Button was how unstable I feel in the saddle. I’m so ready to get this weight off. My struggle the past month has been knowing that I can’t lose more than 10lbs in my pre-op supervised diet stage. That’s 3 more months from now that I can’t really try to lose weight or I won’t qualify for surgery anymore. I’ve started taking some small steps to eating better like putting my protein first, drinking more water, and cutting out soda. Hopefully these changes will help me feel like I’m helping myself some without losing too much weight. These feelings are so conflicting! Then again, I’ve tried in the past to lose weight and it didn’t work. I don’t know why I’m scared I’ll lose too much now 😂 (BTW- I realize some surgeons only count your starting weight. Mine does not. My insurance needs weights from each of these appointments.) -

Hello All! I am new to the group. I received the green light for my sleeve surgery scheduled for 1/28/19. I could have had it sooner but due to work commitments and child care issues, it will be in January! I am happy and excited to start this adventure! Please comment with words of wisdom and advice! Surgery buddies are welcome. Hey

I am the same. I don't feel hungry really. But I do have a headache and just not feeling great. And I am more tired then normal. But I think I was thinking it was going to be so terrible before I started, that so far it isn't as bad as I thought. Hopefully it keeps getting better and better each day and the next 10 days will go quickly! You also reminded me that I am allowed to have sugar free ice pops, so maybe I will have that as a 'treat' tonight :-)

I feel ya girl. I am 10 weeks post op. I miss food. So much. I miss gorging myself. I am down 41lb since surgery (51lb since pre-op diet) and under 200lb, but still, I feel so empty. I definitely miss the days where I could be like, “I’ll start on Monday.” I miss McDonald’s. And I miss diet soda and seltzer. However, I now enjoy my iced tea. Btw I can gulp water like do 3 gulps when parched so it does get better. I am always dehydrated though gotta work on that.

I'm 4 months post op today from my SIPS procedure. I have lost 83lbs in total since the start in early June, and 68 lbs since surgery, however I was hoping to be further along and even at my last Dr appointment they indicated I could have lost more and were surprised I hadn't. I seem to be averaging 11 lbs a month over the last 3 months, but what keeps happening is that I lose 11lbs in one week, then NOTHING for 3 weeks!! Is this normal? At first I thought it was just a stall, but the last 3 months in a row have had exactly the same pattern. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy to have lost the weight I have, but I was kind of hoping for it to go a bit quicker, because I have a total of 200lbs to lose and everyone tells me (including my Doctor!) that after the first 6 months it will slow right down. I took on board what they said and have been sticking to the food plan and going to the gym, because I was terrified if I didn't lose 100-150lbs in the first 6 months, I wouldn't get to my goal. But seems like my body had different plans. I also don't understand how I can have a daily calorie deficit of approx 1000 cals, but for 3 weeks out of each month, not lose anything? How is my body actually powering itself during that time? My hair is falling out in clumps and my skin isn't great, so I'm guessing thats what's happening instead, but seriously....how can I be running on negative?? My average daily food intake looks like this: Breakfast: either 1 boiled egg with a little mayo, or 1 protein shake (premier protein). Once a week I will have 1/2 a cup of rice cereal. Lunch: I batch cook chilli or soup with added protein at home to take to work. Usually have it with 1oz of pecans or macadamias (trying to follow keto) Mid-afternoon snack: cheese stick or protein shake (depending on whether I had one for breakfast or not) Dinner: Varies, but generally I go for pressure cooker chicken (between 3 and 5 oz) and green veg, or tuna salad, or 3-5oz of pork chop. 2-3 times a week I will have 3oz of sweet potato, but thats not every day and depends on how hungry I am. My average calorie intake is 99% of the time between 800 and 1150 and I hit at least 80g of protein every day. I try to keep carbs under 30g, but often average about 50g (gross) I count my water and get at least 64oz every day. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week, and on average I do 45 mins of cardio (cross trainer/eliptical and bike) and then 10-15 mins of weight training. Outside of this i try to be as active as I can, and I average round 6000-7500 steps daily (I have an office job so can be tricky) Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on what else I can do to try and speed this up? Should I do different things at the gym, or just try to go more often? Or should I mix up my food a bit more? I'd really appreciate any ideas.

I'm 10 weeks out from sleeve surgery. I've noticed lately that I seem to have a "delay" when I swallow liquids. I don't notice it as much (or at all, really) with solids. It's like - I swallow, then I feel it sit for ~2 seconds in my throat, then I feel it move down into my stomach. It's more noticeable with really cold things because I can feel the cold liquid moving down. Anybody else have this? It doesn't really bother me, and I don't have any other symptoms (reflux, choking/aspirating, etc) so I'm not really worried about it. Maybe a hiatal hernia? It's just weird and different!

After about 5 minutes at Dr. Gagne's office the other day, I decided I am really glad I chose him as my surgeon. For starters, having the surgery at Butler instead of going down to Pittsburgh is a big plus. Especially since I have no idea how I am getting to and from the hospital, so if I have to get the male child or my uncle to do it, I am way better off doing through Butler. Talking with Dr. Gagne...he is very matter of fact, straight forward, yet seems to be very understanding. I had printed off my diary pages from MFP, put them in a binder for him and he said to just continue to eat as I have been doing because it was very good along with the exercise I have been doing.....proof positive that i need the surgery when he sees the work I am putting in and yet not so much as 1 ounce has been lost since my appointment the beginning of the month at Dr. Reyer. With regard to the holidays coming up....he said not to deprive myself, but by the same token please realize I am not going to the electric chair so please do not go overboard. LMAO Kelli told us that since Highmark has a change in medical policy, there is no more 6 month wait. So I asked for an approximate of when I could possibly have my surgery if that is the case...they will be submitting it the day after New Years when it takes effect. LOL This is going to fly!!!!
