2 weeks Post surgery amusement park trip

When I had my GB surgery, the only restriction I had was no heavy lifting (> 25 pounds) for six weeks. This was the same restriction I had for the banding and it was provided by 2 different surgeons. Since both are abdominal surgery, it makes sense. Call your surgeon, I'm sure he/she will be fine with the rides. HAVE FUN!!!
  2. Two weeks ago I had my gall bladder out (well, almost 2 weeks) and I have a planned trip to 6 Flags tomorrow. I have 4 incisions that kind of look mostly healed. Should I avoid the really fun stuff like the twisty side-to-side things like the tilt-a-whirl/round-up or just stick to the "family" stuff like carousel level. I don't like rollercoasters, so that's not an issue. I'm half way between the gall bladder surgery and the band surgery and need to use the tickets or give up on them for the season. But I also don't really want to hurt myself by imposing strong forces on a still healing body. Has anybody gone ahead and done modestly physically demanding activities in that timeframe? Many thanks for any input!
  3. Anyone out there have surgery in Sept 2010? I would love to have a buddy/budies to discuss the process, including ups downs and everything inbetween!!

    Should I wait?

I say unfill NOW. A few weeks ago I was taken from 2.5cc to 3.0cc. Long story short that was too much and what would normally be "nothing", or "PB, end of story" became - as a result of irritation and swelling - being blocked off completely, to the point that even my own saliva couldn't pass and I was having to PB every 4 or 5 minutes just from swallowing. You don't want to be there. "Choking in the middle of the night" sounds like acid reflux. The same day that I was PBing saliva, I called for an unfill. They actually praised me for coming in, saying that some people go weeks and months like that. My rationale - it's better to go for an unfill, because I can always get more fill put in later, than be too tight and have increased risk of erosion and slips.

Just had my surgery on the 3/29/2007. Did anyone have post op swelling that made your stomach look and feel larger than prior to surgery.

    Meeting with Dr. Marsden tomorrow

I was banded by Dr. Marsden Sept '06 and he is wonderful! If I remember correctly it is high protein and then within a few days of surgery it is mostly liquid to get shrink the fat on your liver so he can get the band on. But you only have to follow it for approx 2 weeks prior. He is awesome and will take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns.
  9. I’ve now lost 61 pounds and beginning to notice something new! It appears that I’m once again on a normal monthly cycle!!!! I had a hysterectomy in 2000 and kept my ovaries, so basically I can go through a regular full cycle – just no period. For the last ten years that “normal” cycle only happens about every 3-4 months. Now for the last 3 months, it’s been happening every month! Breast tenderness, cravings, hunger for no reason, slight water retention and worst of all PMS! I’m 49 and just figured for the last 10 years I was that all favorite word of premenopausal……. Has anyone else noticed a difference in their monthly cycle after losing a large amount of weight?

New to LapBand 2 weeks Post op

I also found that eating sugar free pudding helped me get through those first 6 weeks. Target has a big selection too!! Don't try and eat regular food to fast. Just stick with what the dr says.
  11. Hi y'all, I am one month post op and going for my first fill next week. Till now I have been able to eat anything as long as I chew it well. I have not thrown up or PB'd once yet. My question is will that change after my first fill? I know I won't be able to eat the sane quantities that I an eating now, but will the foods I am able to eat change? Thanks,

    Banded yesterday

Yes girl. I was banded dec 18 and the pain was unbearable in my shoulder and under my rib cage. The dr said it is gas and some1 else says it comes from being under anthesia but either way it is painful and with me it lasted about a week. I walked the 2nd day trying to help me it along with a little relief........ but nt much. Good luck
  15. My calorie intake was up to about 1000 cal a day within a couple of weeks of being banded. I now eat 1200 - 1300 cal a day. Please don't be alarmed if you gain a little when you increase your calories. That is normal and the weight will start to drop again. Your body needs to adjust when you make changes like that. I was lucky and it didn't happen to me but I was only on liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 4 weeks (probably only 3 weeks) and my calories increased quickly so my body never really adjusted to the super low calories. As a matter of fact my body didn't like that one little bit and I don't lose much my first week. Good luck!
  16. Hi everyone. The minutes are ticking down - I'm so excited about getting banded on Friday. I've been on Optifast for 2 weeks with a few slips like a salad here and there. Clear liquids are going to be a little hard to manage at work on Wed/Thurs - any ideas? Thanks

    1 Week Post Surgery

Hey there, congratulations on being a week out! Glad you are feeling better and getting ready for the next stage. My protocol was full liquids and the surgeon described those as anything that would slide off a plate turned on its side. Check in with your medical peeps to see what they have in mind as post-op instructions and food plans vary so widely. I enjoyed potato leek Soup, miso soup, and egg drop soup -- but eggs may not be recommended by your particular surgeon so do check. Best wishes!
  18. How is everyone just thinking about Thanksgiving coming up? I'm not cooking (yeah) but I'm hoping to have a good day. I already started to plan what I'm going to eat. My sister asked me what I could eat and I said EVERYTHING. I'm about 3 weeks out from surgery and have no fills yet. The one thing I have to watch is stuffing. Dangerous for me!!

    psych questionaire

Hi Everyone! I am going for my psych eval this month and I was given paperwork in advance to fill out. Some of the questions make me nervous--I am afraid if I ansewer them a certain way I will be denied. I am going to post some here in the hopes someone can point me in the right direction-- 1. What are your preferred Snacks? (My fave snacks are sweets--but I am afraid if I put that they might say I am not an ideal candidate for lapband??) 2. Circle items that you eat at least 2-3 times per week on most weeks (I put **next to the ones that apply to me--choices are--ice cream, **cookies/crackers, fruits/veggies, bread, **chocolate, **cake/muffins, soda, milkshakes, chips/pretzels, leftovers 3. Are you an emotional eater? (yes!) 4. Are you a binge eater? (not sure) 5. How often do you binge eat? 6. Do you beleive emotions have played a significant role in the development of your obesity? --Yes 7. What do you beleive are the primary causes of your obesity? 8. Have you ever participate in therapy with a psychologist? (yes--I am currently) 9. Have you been prescribed a psychiatric medication? Yes--currently on wellbutrin for depression Do you think any of these answers will cause him to think I am not a good candidate? :blushing: Thanks everyone!
  23. 6 months ago I had RNY surgery and although it was the hardest decision I've ever made its the best one, second to marrying my hubby of course:) I went from a person who was 11 pounds away from 400! A person who ate to feel full and satisfied A person who ordered way to much food at drive thru's and ate every bite A person who hid behind ugly plus size black clothing A person who never exercised because I felt as if I was judged A person who ate her food in 5 seconds A person who sweat just grocery shopping :/yuck A person who never had energy to play with my toddler A person who was unhappy with my weight but never did anything about it To a person who values active play with a 3 year old Who love to shop for cloths even if they only fit for a month then they are too big:) Eats less and slower and feels satisfied Loves the way my husband looks at me Loves that I can and want to walk up 3 flights of stairs every day and not be out of breath or dripping sweat I love that a hour at the gym gives me energy I love that I don't die on the elliptical I love that I can jog in the treadmill. The list goes on. I am stuck at 262 but I Celebrate the 127 pounds down from my start and the 97 pounds down from day of surgery. It's been an adjustment but in 6 months I am so happy God gave me an opportunity at a healthy life. .::SurgeryDate 7/25/12::.
