Calorie Cycling: An NSV for me!
NMJG replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, your chart is similar to mine. I set my goal for 800 but rarely even come close. I have noticed that this last week (week 5) my avg calories have gone up from 500 a day to around 650 a day. I can eat more things now, but still can't get in veggies or carbs other than an occasional tiny bite at the end of my protein. -
1500 mg calcium citrate and 2 bariatric vitamins a day. B12 once a week. Oh vitamin D 4000 units a day. Not bad I think. I already took calcium and a vitamin daily before surgery.

Can't I just Move on?
feedyoureye replied to optasia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first 6 weeks most surgeons order us not to lift anything over 10 lbs, and such.... You need to walk and make sure you don't dehydrate. Not doing these things can land you back in the hospital. Of course you are fragile for a while after surgery... thats just normal to be cautious for a short while until complete recovery. At 6 weeks I feel great and ready to really engage with all that life hands me. -
All Food Still Looks Good.
ButterflyGirl replied to 1Bumblebee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I just started week 3 on Sunday (blended food) and I can eat a lot less than I can jello or protein shakes!!! I was surprised also when I noticed that I could drink more than a couple of sips, but now that I'm on the creams it's a lot less!!! You just know your full and stop because you have to. As far as wanting other people's food, I'm right there with you!!! I want it in my mouth even thought I don't really feel hungry. Everything smells great, but eventually we'll be able to eat everything even if its just one bite!!! -
Soft food vs Pureed foods
weigh-in replied to weigh-in's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the hand out from the dr it just stated at 1 week post op begin soft foods of scrambled eggs, any kind of cheese except cream cheese, yogurt, plain, cottage cheese and refried beans. Then it states to be on the soft foods for 3 weeks, then to move on to introducing real foods, one at a time, into my diet. -
I have had this pain a few times and Saturday night it happened and I threw up after an hour and a half of walking the floors of my house. First time throwing up since surgery on April 2. Then the pain came back and threw up an hour later too. Went to my dr on Monday and he is going to do a scope to see what is going on. Said scarring could be causing a stricture. Did fine first 5 weeks and then all of a sudden, food and sometimes even drinks causes that pain...like it is stuck and has no where to go. Hope you feel better soon.

I know this probably seems nuts, but I am looking for some reassurance. I was sleeved on 9/23 and by 1 week post-op I was down 10 pounds. (I had lost an additional 25 pounds prior to surgery.) In the past week the scale has not moved and I am freaking out a little. I am eating what I am supposed to (puréed foods and protein shakes) and exercising almost every day, though not as hard I I was pre-op as the incisions are still a bit sore. I read about other people who the weight just seems to be falling off and worry, even though we are all different, I know. Any words of wisdom or reassurance? I am thinking about not weighing every day.

Nervous about slow weight loss
DonRodolfo replied to IpswichPav's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to tell you what one of my surgeons told me at my last visit. If in a 6-week period of time you have not lost any weight or have gained weight and your measurements aren't moving or are getting bigger THEN you can say you're having issues. Our weight fluctuates too much from day to day to declare failure any sooner than 6 weeks. I weight myself every day but only consider the Friday weigh-in the official one. My weight doesn't always do what I want it to but I can sure see it in how loosely my clothes fit. -
I have to get dressed tomorrow ????
AvaFern replied to cindyw41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wore flowy, loose skirts to work the first week I was back with cotton, soft leggings underneath. I didn't like my stomach being totally free, and the soft leggings over my incisions made me feel better. The skirt made me look like a professional, lol, and no one could see the leggings underneath. I wore flowy, loose skirts to work the first week I was back with cotton, soft leggings underneath. My First Upset Stomach Episode
scstxrn replied to Sherry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 2 to 4 oz, stop when you're not hungry. I was also told that Fluid was allowed as long as I included it in the 2 to 4 oz. I couldn't do grits till 2 weeks out, though. I still don't know that I would try them at a month. -
Any 8/24 sleevers?
Need4Change replied to Need4Change's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have mine in Jacksonville, Florida. It seems like it is still a long way out, but in reality, it's just over two weeks. I am sooooo ready to do this! -
Well, the honeymoon may be over
catwoman7 replied to Arabesque's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm three lbs over it right now! (and dying - I HATE THIS!!! But I'm working on it...). Last summer I was consistently about 5 lbs under it because I was out all the time (biking or whatever) - but I'd say maybe two or three times since then (??). Holiday periods and winter in general are a bit tough. This is the highest I can remember being over it - it's usually just a pound or so. -
Not feeling full or even hungry
Rastafas replied to lucykh3434's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three days post-op and I feel like I am starving! I think I had read somewhere that the gas (which is pretty awful) can mimic the hunger pangs. I am trying very hard to follow post-op directives. Any advice? I have no problem drinking the 6 oz Protein shakes. I have had 2 today. Off-times I have Water. I had broth for dinner. -
Facts vs reality of weight lost
Djmohr replied to cpower100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just 5 months post op and I have lost 82 so far. I have another 60 to go. It does slow down after the first couple months but I have been losing on average 3 lbs per week. I can live with that. -
Hi! Like you, as I started on this journey I als changed my eating habits. I honestly can;t tell if I'm retaining Water or not. Whats been working for me is this; each week I introduced a new change as follows: 1st I cut out all sugared beverage-- no soda, juice, etc. 2nd I increased my Protein. I realized must of my calories were coming from carbs. I added turkey sausage with Breakfast, a boiled egg for a snack etc. 3rd I limited my carbs to one per meal; regardless of the grams of carbs. So I ate a sandwich with only one slice of bread-- not other carbs. Or, at dinner if it was spaghetti, I could have the meat sauce and noodles, but no texas toast. (Or the sauce with the texas toast only.) 4th I started Protein shakes in places of Snacks. 5th I started protein shakes to replace 1 meal. My process from consultation to surgery approval was short (a little over a month...) so this leads me right into the pre-op diet. The gradual ease into a new change a week REALLY helped me. Read posts and pick out what would work for you and your lifestyle then be consistent with it. You got this!

Why it would happen to you now I dont know, unless you're eating a lot less after the last fill. I've had a similar experience in the last few weeks, 3 days on Optifast and I was having trouble staying conscious, I fainted in public twice. I guess when you're active and running around, you actually do need energy to function. 3 piddly shakes a day is not enough for me, its not a matter of willpower, I plain cant function on that amount of energy. Are you sure you're eating enough? Regularly enough? Last time I fainted was about 15 years ago right before I got married, and yes, I'd been dieting like a fiend for months and lost a lot of weight. We do it for our long term health but its very stressful on the body.

One week until band day! 3/4/07! Well, this is my first journal entry. I have a week to go, I've had my pre-op and I start my liquid diet on Sunday. It is a weird time because all I think about is the surgery and what it will be like afterwards. I'm also obsessed with food, buying the post-op stuff and eating stuff I "might never eat again" I hope I can conquer the emotional eating part with the help of the band. I love reading the postings on this board and looking at the pics. Talk about inspiration!

Proteins, carbs and calories, oh my!
lauraellen80 replied to DojiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too! In fact, I called my surgeon's office in tears a couple weeks post op because so many posts on here were so anti-carb, and it had me freaking out and questioning everything my dietician told me. -
So scared, someone calm me down
lsuchick4 replied to AuntieLala83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had similar pains at about 2-3 weeks post op. My doc said it was normal since that is where he removed the stomach. He said I'd feel it more on days when I exert myself more. I'm 5 weeks out now and only feel it occasionally. -
Lifting after surgery? I'm a mom...
Disney replied to honeyrubybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have a 30 pound 3 year old and I had to lift her after my hysterectomy last July sooner than I should have, but I'm like you, after a week, I was on my own and there was no other option. I am hoping to have more help this time around, but you just never know how things will work out. I will try my best not to lift her, but it is so hard sometimes. -
Lifting after surgery? I'm a mom...
SouthernSleever replied to honeyrubybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 30pound 3 year old that I lifted when I had to after surgery. My hubby was home for a week after my surgery so I didn't do much at all that week but after that I did. -
Hi i have had a pain across my abdomen since two weeks after the surgery, so that’s for 4 weeks now it is about 4 inches below the surgery incisions is that where yours is? i went to see my hospital team and they were worried about a lot of potential serious issues and did a thorough check in the end no solution, but equally none of the ugly possibilities were found i would recommend going to your team for a check out all the best

Eating 2 Weeks After Lapband Surgery
wildolphins811 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my lapband surgery on March 27, I started with my weight at 316, I am st 281 now. It has been 2 weeks and the doctor has told me it was ok for puddings and creamed soups and of course still clears and protien shakes. Today, I had a few bites of creamy mashed potaotes ( no chunks) lol and a few bites of winter squash which was like a puree consitency. I'm hoping that was ok. Also I still have a bit of tenderness where my port is, especially when I try to sleep on my right side.. used to be a stomach sleeper. How long before the tenderness goes away to be able to sleep comfortably again? I was also wondering since I have not had a fill yet.. but I'm guessing my full signal is like I have a little golf ball stuck in my stomach.. i def don't want to over do and ruin the band.. is that anormal feeling? Other that that I have no real issues and go back to my dr April 25th. My first few days after surgery were tough, didnt want to move and scared to drink or eat anything.. but i'm over it.. Just can't wait to introduce fish or chicken...lol. -
Eek! I Just Got Banded And I'm Hungry/cheating! Help!
elcee replied to ThruThickandThin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hungry too. I am sure that had I tried I could have eaten anything I wanted to. However I didn't. Why not ? Well I wasn't stupid enough to go through all that prep, go under anaesthetic, have surgery just to mess it up because i was incapable of following a diet for a couple of weeks. Was it hard? Hell yes but the alternative which is risking stuffing up your surgery, contributing to a future slip and other problems were just not worth it. If you are hungry eat/drink more of the items that you are supposed to be eating. If you really "can't" stick to that then call your Dr and discuss it with him and see if he has any ideas for you.
