Tight sleeve in the morning?
lsereno replied to sr910's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue and even today I have more restriction first thing in the morning and kind of stretch out my breakfast. I stuck with Protein shakes or yogurt shake (greek yogurt, splash of OJ, bigger splash of Water, 2 strawberries and Splenda) till I was 6 months out or more. Lynda -
2month post op and not losing
bambam replied to lapbandgirl2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LBG - 14-15 pounds in 2 months is great!!! That is an average of about 2 pounds a week - just where you should be!!! I know what you mean about inches going and I know you want to see the scale continue to go down too. At times I feel my clothes are more loose, but it's not showing on the scale, but I'll take that too!!! Just know that eventually the scale will start to move again. I think we have put our bodies through so much that sometimes they just need to catch up with what we are doing. With your exercise are you eating enough calories? You want to have a deficit, but if you are exercising a lot you need to replace some of those calories you burned to fuel your body. I log my food and activity on dailyplate.com. I've lost 63 since my HIGHEST weight ever and 42 pounds since starting the LB process. I try to indicate that in my numbers, but I think it gets overlooked sometimes. Still, I'm thrlled with the 42 pounds. Some of that was on the preop diet of course. Here's what a typical day is like for me: Breakfast: 4 ounces of Protein if I have a "meat" or smoothie today omelette Lunch: 4 ounces of protein fuit, veggie, or a dairy Dinner: Same as lunch I have 4 ounces of protein for lunch and dinner and will have 1 fruit a day (usually half of a banana for my potassium) 1 veggie a day (1/2 c or so), and a low fat yogurt if I don't get my dairy in elsewhere. I occasionally eat a carb or sweet, but try not to have too much. That has a been a struggle the last few weeks when I've needed a fill. It's much easier to resist those foods when you aren't truly hungry. That's pretty much what I do. I wish I could say I love to exercise, but I don't. I find myself doing things like yardwork, etc., for most of my exercise. Have tried to get better by going hiking, bike riding, and we do love going on walks, so baby steps I guess. At least I'm moving again insead of a couch potato. Hope this helps! It sounds as if you are doing great - keep up the good work and have faith in the process!! -
I used to eat such good things...now I feel like I'm living on scrambled eggs, deli meats, cheese, and yogurt! I was doing great at 6 weeks out, now at almost 10 weeks my poor stomach is having such issues. I had an endoscopy almost 2 weeks ago that showed severe gastritis (irritation) and so many things just don't sit well anymore. A lot of the foods I depended on make me sick now. I'm really hoping this will resolve over time because I'm getting really frustrated. I'm down 46 pounds since my surgery, and 70 from my high, so that's the good news. I just hope I don't have to deal with this part much longer...

Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
Lillymunster replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 3 days post op and my tastes have changed. I used to put fruit punch Mio in my water and it tastes bitter now. My go to Greek yogurt was pills triple 9 chocolate and that tastes terrible now. I’m also craving tuna and eggs (not together) which I’ve always hated and real crunchy iceberg lettuce. -
Anyone have the surgery date of August 27th?
smileygal replied to TCaruso70's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi tinatina. Your Drs in the USA (I'm assuming that's where you are from) seem to take things very slow. In Australia, I was on a purée diet from 3 days post op and can have yogurts, custards, purée casseroles. I'm only having about 10 teaspoons to a meal but I can't imagine still being on only shakes. One tip if you want to stick only to them - try blending them with ice. I found a cold frothy shake a nice alternative. If you want to bend a little, my current breakfast shake at 12 days post op is the protein shake powder with a banana and some berries, some yogurt and milk. And ice. Yummy! Makes enough for breakfast and morning tea! Have you tried a protein soup?? Good luck! Great advice Becca!! -

3Rd Fill Today And Lesson Learned
♥LovetheNewMe♥ commented on Domika03's blog entry in Mission Slimpossible
Good learning experience and good advice. Protein bars will give you gas, protein shakes are better and lower in carbs if you need a supplement. Did you know you can adjust your carbs, protein and what ever else you want to monitor on MFP. When you first enter your calories they assign the breakdown and it is much higher in carbs and fat then what we traditionally eat. I eat 40% carbs, 35% Protein and 25% fat. Now this is still a little high on the carb and fat end but it gives me 135mg of protein and 154gms of carbs. I was much lower in carbs when I was losing and really cut back on carbs after 2pm in the evening. I also got caught up in the greek yogurt for breakfast for months, thought it was ok because it was high in protein 15gms. It is better to eat things that require chewing and take longer to digest. But mainly do not be discouraged, I know you say, I only lost 1/2 lb but just thing you didn't gain and sometimes your body needs time to adjust to the new weights. -
On my way to my 1 week follow up, even though my surgery was actually last Friday. I have to say that I've got some seriously LOW energy. Since I sit on my booty all day at work, I'm glad I took most of this week off. I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow, but think I will work from home. I just don't think I've got enough energy to get moving. I'm still not sleeping well because, wouldn't you know it, my siatic (sp?) nerve is starting to bug me when I go to sleep. Great timing for it to act up, huh? It makes for a heckuva sleepless night. I also don't think, never mind, I know I'm not getting enough protein in me. I've been feeling sooo full although I'm barely eating. I think I must be drinking too quickly. Trying to watch myself today because I start on soft foods. So far today, I've had 4 oz of a protein drink, and 1 oz of vanilla greek yogurt (with a dash of cinncamon for flavor). I'm waiting aobut 45 minutes before drinking anything again, but this schedule is tough. I planning ahead and bringing some of my snacks/meals with my 1st nutrition class & follow up apt so I don't miss out on anything (1oz of egg beaters & 1 oz of refried beans & something to drink). I know I've been losing weight because I've checked the scale. However, I try to be realistic because anyone would lose weight following a liquid diet. I don't expect miracles, but am thankful that I'm going in the right direction I still need to learn what my body is saying in the way of hunger vs the full feeling. The last few days it's always felt "full" which is insane beacuse I'm not eating much of anything. Nonetheless, today's nutrition class should be informative, and I look forward to it. Gonna go have my crystal light now. I'm thirsty.

List of things to have on hand post-op?!?
Writerjennifer replied to meggo1111's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're going to need clear (sugar free) liquids for the first few days. Like Jello, broths (beef, chicken and veggie), tea (decaff or caffiene free), etc. Then thicker liquids, things that will pour off a spoon, like thin Soups (no chunks). Then thicker soft foods, like Yogurt and puddings (both sugar free and fat free) and thicker soups (still no chunks) Then smashable foods, like flakey fish, soups with soft chunks that can be squished with a fork, chicken. shakes. For all phases after the clear liquid phase. And, if you get tired of the shake flavors, then you can get extracts and sugar free puddings and such to flavor them. Hope this helps. Good luck! -
Finally got a date 04-24-2013
axd0424 replied to erica6137's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 more days. So ready for this. Not nervous at all. Only had to do 5 days of pre op liquid and am able to have veggies and yogurt. Feel very fortunate about that. Stocked up on muscle milk shakes as 20 grams of protein in each shake. Got my vitamins and am registered at the hospital. Tuesday can't come soon enough. HUGE thank u to this forum. It's been the best support system ever. -
Okay, I decided to start the BFL challenge AGAIN...I've only done it once completely. Usually I don't make it to the end of the 12 weeks, but this time, I'm going to do it! I did it about 18 months ago and had good results, so I need to focus on the results I had and not the "working out 6 days a week". I know I can do it, I just need to do it! I took my before pics last night, so I can compare my pics every 4 weeks and compare my changes. I brought my workout clothes with me to work, so I can workout during lunch, there is NO EXCUSES. Menu today Bfast yogurt mixed with cottage cheese Snack hummus/carrot sticks Lunch 3 0z chicken spinach salad Snack cantelope 1 string cheese Dinner soup Exercise - Upper Body work out Wt - 159.1 - Yay, in the 150's!!!!!

Thanks for the recioes. I look forward to try these recipes when I am on solids. I have yet to find any soft food recipes. Seems like everything I eat just truns into GASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I eat mostly fish, soft veggies, yogurt, low sodium V8, applesauce and scrambled eggs. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and still stuggling with gas pains and constipation. I would gladly accept any recommendations anyone has on this.

Thought I would share this information in case anyone might find this helpful. I was at WalGreen's this afternoon & stumbled upon a potential new source of protein snacks. I only bought 2 items but there were 4 or 5 different snacks that seemed to have some good protein. Brand name is Kays Naturals Here's some nutritional on the 2 items I bought: Protein Chips Crispy Parmesan (just ate this after dinner & they were tasty) 1.2 oz bag Glutten free Protein: 12g Total Fat 2.5g Total Carb: 15g Dietary Fiber: 4g Sodium: 240g Protein Cereal Apple Cinnamon (I was thinking this might be great combined with some Greek Yogurt for breakfast) 1.2 oz Glutten free Protein: 12g Total Fat: 1.5g Total Carb: 19g Dietary Fiber: 4g Sodium: 150g

i had my first fill this morning under fluro...it took all of 15 minutes and i was a nervous wreck prior...it proved to be all for nothing. the worst part was having to have all my piercings taken out prior to the procedure! here's what went down... i laid on a table and had a pic taken of my belly that showed up on a small screen beside my bed i saw my port and the how it was attached to my abdominal wall with hooks (that was weird) i saw my band which is nowhere near the port and in between all sorts of other inside stuffs! i was given a shot of lidocaine to the numb the area-it burned a little like the heparin shots the NP stuck a needle in my port area and felt for the pockets on the band (which i did not feel but could seen on the screen) the needle was attached to some tubing but i could not see what was in the end of it... the bed was placed in a standing position and i was given a cup of contrast that i watched flow freely down my esophagus she injected some saline i think about 1 cc and i drank some more contrast...the flow was a littler slower she injected another cc and i drank some more contrast...the flow was slower still... she injected another cc and i drank some more contrast...i felt like it was going to come up... she removed a 1/2 cc and i drank some more contrast...i felt like i had to burp... she removed another 1/2 cc and i drank some more contrast and then some water...and i felt ok... so i got a 2 cc fill today on top of the one from surgery...so 3 total in my 10cc band i felt like a had a lump in my throat for the first hour afterward, but i feel better now... i am now back to mushies for two days...she said it appears i am tighter in the morning and i should try to drink a shake or yogurt in the mornings... that's it:) now the fun begins...i must remember to chew...

First Name Kesha - Last Name Nervous
TheNiceVoice replied to TheNiceVoice's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, tomorrow is the big day. No liquid diet for me. I can eat regular all day today. Nothing after midnight. Although I will be saying farewell to regular food for a while, I had no desire to pig out today. I had some pancakes for Breakfast (thanks to the hubby) . . . I had some greek yogurt and I'll be doing some turkey chili tonight for dinner. The heart is racing . . .but I don't think its nervousness. (thanks to you all! ) I think I'm getting excited. Losing this weight will prayerfully grant me some sort of normalcy after battling cancer for so long. I look forward to wearing dresses, shorts in the summertime and working out for more than 10 mins. I also look forward to getting out of bed. Depression had me trapped in my room for most of the year. I'm just so excited. I literally feel tears coming to my eyes. -
Hello from New York
Asherscrashers replied to DeeDee1113's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i just had the surgery on friday 4/22 and beforehand i was on a 2 week pre op diet that consisted of oatmeal, raw veggies, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello and no sugar added applesauce. I also had to drink 4 protein shakes a day... now i am on a clear liquid diet for a week and then i move onto pureed food, then soft foods, and then finally a regular diet. We too have to use a salad plate make half of it veggies 1/4 of it protein and 1/4 starches. right now i am not hungry at all and haven't been since the surgery but the pain where the port is is very tender. i am able to get up on my own but can't bend over or lift anything for awhile. I am also only taking a week off of work but the surgeon said that you could potentially have the surgery on friday and go back to work on monday. I live in NJ and if you want the name of my surgeon just let me know they are awesome -
Oh how glad I am that I found this thread!! I'm four weeks post op and NOTHING since week 2! I lost 22lbs the first two weeks and now nothing! I thought it was because I started soft foods, but even then I gained one week! I only weigh once a week but it's so frustrating! You go to these drastic extremes to loose weight and you expect to loose every day, especially with the lack of calories coming in! And to top it all off it seems like starting this week mashed potatoes and refried Beans upset my tummy! I'm tired of yogurt! Help!

Howdy fellow bandsters. So, I'm three weeks post-op and moved to mashed/pureed foods about three days ago. I haven't been very adventurist, just one soft scrambled egg and a little avocado for breakfast, some mashed potatos for lunch and a yogurt for a snack. Last night, I had some hummus and a slice of tomato for dinner and my stomach hurt so badly I almost cried. Today, I had the exact same menu but no dinner yet and my stomach is killing me. I can't tell what it is - I feel fine all day until the evenings. Is it sharp hunger pangs? Is it something I'm eating? I don't have a fill yet so its not a restriction issue.I suppose I should add I've been consuming a lot of benefiber because I'm not having proper bowel movements. Its been 18 days and I can't seem to go. Maybe the additional fiber is the problem? I would welcome any thoughts. Thanks!!!

Just had three sample cups at Menchies frozen yogurt( I'm 5 WLS post op) and not sure how to track it. It was very tasty but did not need my own serving

Calling all October 2014 sleevers.
TexasMom5 replied to hortonl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hortonl Homemade Cream of Potato soup is a good option to eat for puréed food. You could add unflavored protein powder to it. Have you tried thinned out Greek yogurt or thinned out applesauce? You can also add the unflavored protein powder. -
Hello everyone, I am 6 weeks post op and I'm a bit discouraged by the amount of weight I have lost and my surgeons reactions. The first week after surgery I could not get anything but 12 oz of apple juice and water down. I experienced protein aversion and would spit out any protein drink or shake that I tried to take. To my surprise, at my 1 week visit I gained 2 pounds (I was also experiencing my first bout of constipation post op). For reference Surgery day: 317; Week 1: 319. After that I moved to the puree stage and found that I can only eat a limited amount of food varieties without feeling sick, and for the most part that will only last for a few days. The only thing I can consistently eat is yogurt or a yogurt drink (8-12 oz per day) for breakfast and water. Most days I force myself to eat different low fat pureed things like burrito-less burritos, buffalo chicken dip, tuna, chicken salad, crust-less quiche ect. I tend to make them in cupcake or muffin molds so it's easy to pack for work. Usually, I can only eat one at lunch and have half of something else for dinner. Last week I had my 1 month visit with a different surgeon (mine was out for personal reasons) and I lost 17 pounds since surgery day, but the surgeon seemed disappointed that it wasn't more. They asked what I was eating, and then I was chastised for the amount of sugar in the yogurt drinks. I tried explaining that most things make me feel sick or that I have to force myself to eat. I guess my question is how do you no feel discouraged by the speed you are losing weight? Or the expectation of your medical team?

How many meals & how much can u eat ?
Holly5.3 replied to SA Ramirez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
6 months out tomorrow and I am very restricted with solid proteins. I would say a little less than a 1/2 a cup of solid food is what I can manage. Smooth textures like yogurt, velvety mashed potatoes, pureed fruits and cooked veggies give me more volume. I miss my salad greens and chicken. I can literally eat 3 small bites of a salad. If so much as a piece of lettuce goes down without being totally chewed to oblivion-it makes me feel too full and I can't eat another bite of anything. Its funny, when you learn all you can post-op (I watched hours of videos on U-Tube of sleevers cooking, eating, explaining and describing a post-op diet) but it still doesn't hit you until you are experiencing it yourself, you just can't eat a lot. Period. I look forward to my stomach stretching a bit so I can eat more at mealtime (especially when dining out and you're finished eating when everyone is still on appies!) But I fit into a size 14 today, from a 24, so.....bye-bye salad and chicken (for now at least!). -
Question about weight coming off?!
Boca replied to Happypntom23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you. I can't believe I'm not losing more. I had my surgery 5/4 and was then 245 (256 before the pre-op diet) and now I'm at 230. I am filled to 7.5 and eating very little. I'm having reflux at night so I will have a unfill on Monday when I see my doctor. I am at the gym 6 days a week. Zumba, strength training, etc. I can believe it's so slow. I had them do a metabolic test on me and mine is slow. Well no surprise there. The doctor suggested adding flax seed and flax seed oil and strength training. All of which I've done. I eat fish and more fish. I am having 60 grams of protein a day. Morning-greek yogurt with flax seed (20) lunch- fish (10) dinner fish (10) Finish eating by 6 then I have a shake (14) and a zone bar (14) I follow all the rules and stop eating and drinking by 8:00 Any thoughts out there. -
Do you use Greek yogurt with the peanut butter?

I add a little hi fiber hi protein cereal to my yogurt. I don't like Greek yogurt, I eat Fiber One lite peach. Only 50 calories and great with a little crunchy cereal in it.
