  1. Yes, there is a whole Band-to-Sleeve revision board on here. Congrats to you! It's a good feeling isn't it? I had my revision almost 1 month ago. I still struggle with the fluids like you. I didn't have much pain and felt ready to go to work after about a week. What kind of work do you do? It might actually be fine to go back. One caution though, my NP scolded me for going back soon not because I was harming anything but because I work in an environment where it is difficult to get fluids (I work in the OR) so she wanted me to have more time getting my hydration back up before going back. But beyond that, if you don't have a lot of lifting to do and you can drink throughout the day, you are probably ok to go back to work if you want. I still find it weird not having a port anymore. I had my band for almost 6 years. Good luck and welcome!

7weeks out, feeling down, weight stopped

Is there anything on the can eat list you like? I am currently looking at a revision for similar issue and I know that from what I have been reading the losses can be a bit slower. Just remember the RNY is so different than sleeve. I am typing this as my heart is burning.. Hoping for relief soon. I can be emotional as well. Going through surgery twice sucks!
  3. Quick recap- I had the sleeve on 2/5/2014 and had tons of complications. I was in the hospital a lot, I had a PICC line and then a feeding tube. It was a rough 6 months. My stomach basically didn’t tolerate food or drink, so there was a lot of puking. Fast forward to needing a revision to bypass on 6/26/2018 due to severe reflux and damage. The surgery went great, I healed well, no nausea. I was rocking it. I am doing great on full liquids but am failing miserably on soft foods. I don’t know if it’s psychological or what. I can do one cheese stick a day if I chew very well. I am okay with yogurt, just small amounts. I get sick on refried beans, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. I just keep going back to full liquids. Anyone else? Any advice?
  4. I started off at 270 with my band surgery in Oct 1,2008. Lost 23-25lbs the first 2.5 months, complications started, and I gained back a total of 18lbs. So, 7lbs lost with the band in a total of 8 months. Sleeve revision on June 3rd, I started at 263, and today I'm at 156. 6 months post revision, I've dropped 107lbs. I was wearing a 22/24W pants, a 26/28W shirt/blouse, today I wear a Medium blouse, and in between a 12/14 or size 15 junior jeans. Your goals are definitely do-able. I have a goal weight of 150 set by my surgeon, and myself. I have 6 more pounds to goal, and would like to maintain around 140-150.
  5. Just using this thread as a running list of my medical/dietary commentary and questions. lol. Called the doc to move up my appointment since I can't eat and he did an emergency endoscopy today. He said everything he can see looks fine. He said he made my pouch twice the normal size and bypassed more intestine than he normally does "in case" I ever need a revision so he has extra stomach to work with. That kind of annoys me. He said it puts me at a higher risk of ulcers, which I developed. I don't really understand why he doubled the size of my pouch. I still get stuffed off 3oz though. He is removing my gallbladder on the 22nd. Pre-op I had a lot of gallstones, polyps, and calcification, so he hopes removing it will get rid of the nausea. It's bizarre though because everything makes me sick. I never, ever have high fat food. Even 0 fat stuff makes me sick. I hope it helps. GI Swallow on the 7th to see if there's a small bowel stricture he couldn't see in the endoscopy, but he doubts it. In the meantime, I guess I just feel sick for 3 more weeks and hope removing the gallbladder helps? I really don't want more surgery... [emoji53] I hope I can make it 3 weeks. He said if I can't bear it anymore to go to the ER and they will do emergency removal. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

Having Second Thoughts...can I Really Do This?

good luck on monday. is this a revision for you or no?
  7. How far out from surgery are you? The pain went away fairly quickly. It was b/c I was trying to catch my DD and I'm sure I pulled some stitches. My port actually moves now. Dr can manipulate it with his fingers. Really strange! If I bend over wrong it feels like it's trying to flip but when I stand up, it pops back in to place. Dr can still access it for fills so we're not worried about it. Once he can't access it, then we'll have to do a revision. I'm hoping that never happens! :Banane01: Anyway, if you're not healing from surgery and it's been awhile, I'd call my doc. You need to let him know what's going on and find out if it's anything to worry about. If you ARE healing from surgery and it seems to be pretty often that you're feeling this, I'd still call him. At the very least, everything is fine and it will relieve you mind but if there is a problem, it gets resolved quickly. Best wishes and let me know what you find out! Take care!
  8. hey heartfire I have the same pinch and pain in my port area too. I was just wondering if those pinches ever went away on their own for you or do you still deal with the pain? Did you require revision surgery to correct the issue? Everytime I move in a certain way I can feel a sharp pinch and I was just wondering what this could be.
  9. Hi, I have a Band that I've had for 7 years. Time went by and I slowly stopped changing my eating habits and I gained weight. Pretty stable for most of the time, but recently I've gained a LOT of weight. I'm strongly focused on my food addiction. You know, "I HAVE to have this or that so I don't go crazy.!" behaviours. .And I'm doing surprisingly well. I have a LCSW-R that I work with, she's a huge help. Anyway, I "think" my pouch has shrunk because I find I cannot eatan average person's full meal, like I used to. I'm losing weight, and respecting the Band again. I'm changing Surgeons, and will be discussing with him about having the RNY. I've been a member of Bariatric Pal for a few years, and have been studying, learning and changing due to all the great people on here. I bought Alex's book on RNY, it's fascinating! I read that some people , when they have the RNY, they revision to the band as well as contnuing with their RNY life. Has anybody ever heard of this in face to face world? I mean, I'll ask my future surgeon, but I was just seeking some info here, from you guys. It kind of makes sense to me, but I've never heard of it. I was looking into having the band removed and having the RNY. But now I hear of this. What do YOU think?

    Normal hospital stay?

I had my band removed and revised to a sleeve done at the same time. I went home the same day at 4 pm. I had an easy recovery. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  11. Natalie, I originally planned on getting the lapband. But as I did more research and read more forums, it sounded like very few people were happy with it. As I learned of people having revisions, I found out about VSG. Gastric Bypass had too many scary aspects to it, so I decided the sleeve was the way to go for me. I wasn't willing to try the band only to have another procedure down the road. I didn't want trial and error. I wanted a procedure that worked once and for all. It was the best decision of my life. I can only imagine the shock of having your dr suggest the change, but thank goodness he did. It means you have a surgeon who is concerned with what is best for you. As far as what you should do pre-op, try to cut out drinking soda now. I drank Dr. Pepper until the night before surgery and waking up from anesthesia with a caffeine headache sucks. Take before pics and measurements. During those times when you think the scale is moving slow, seeing your progress in pics and seeing how many inches you've lost can really keep you motivated. Continue to do research so that you are well prepared mentally and emotionally. Don't compare yourself to others. Everyone progresses at different rates. If you follow your dr's plan for you, the sleeve will work! Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

    Anyone been approved by Aetna?

I'm sorry to hear this. So, are you able to do the self-pay route then? I feel fortunate that I have Aetna, they seem to have a rather generous WLS part of their coverage. I know that my revision will be covered when I decide on the right doctor for me. Although, I don't take anything for granted with the changes with the Healthcare reform- who knows what benefits will be cut next year so I will get the revision done this year one way or another.

    Band Slippage

I too am also being scheduled for a revision/replacement due to slip and pouch dilation. The doctors feel confindent they can do it but must always warn the the health of the stomach is there number 1 concern and that there is always a chance they might have to remove the band but this does not mean it couldn't be put back in at a future date. My surgeon seems confident that he can reposition though so I am just grateful to have the opportunity to get it fixed and will pray that he can do it. the other option is to revise to a gastric sleeve if they can't do it and i don't want that so they are going to give it their very best to reposition a new band into place. Good luck everyone with revisions and please lets keep each other posted on this complication site . I expect to have my surgery in approx 2 -3 weeks.
  16. I've been in a 6 week stall (8 weeks post op), curious as to the longest stall anyone has had. Revision 1/31/13 by Dr Cabrera and Venezuela in MX

    Decisions and Waiting

Last Tuesday I emailed my surgeon to let him know that I didn't want to wait and see what the band is going to do, I want to revise to a sleeve. He called me back on Friday and said they would submit the paperwork to my insurance company to get approval. This takes 2-3 weeks and then we can schedule a surgery date. This also puts me in the middle of vacation time hell at work - as my department is very small only one person at a time is allowed to schedule time off. For the months of July and August every available day has already been taken so it looks like I'll need to wait until Sept for surgery. This wouldn't be a bad thing except that with an unfilled band I am STARVING all the time. My stomach actually growls.....I haven't heard that in over four years and it freaks me out! I've put on a solid 3 lbs this week but I am determined to get a grip and not totally screw myself up over the next 12 weeks.....wish me luck!
  18. Good luck to you, Mary. I would hope that giving her print outs of lap band revision success stories would help, if she would read it. Perhaps you can get her to come on a forum like this and read about lap band revisions? Many people are very happy with them. The other thing that could help perhaps is giving her the reasons why this is different. In other words, what held you back the first time and why you will be successful this time. Are you prepared to change how you eat forever? Are you ready to commit to Protein first, getting your Water in, and avoiding sliders and non-nutritional carbs as much as possible? Can you give up soda? Will your activity level change? If you are prepared, maybe you can share your preparation plans with her and that will help her get behind you.

family giving me a hard time

Thank you for your responses.. honestly, I am a revision. My mother isnt very validating. I am kind of afraid she will be very "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" the day after surgery... shes from the old country. I think she thinks its going to be a repeat of lapband. Its my issue but im going to prove her and everyone else wrong or should I say right :-)

    Finally joined the forums!

I am sure you will do well. There are quite a few band/sleeve revision people on this forum and they seem to do fine.
  21. I was at my PCP's today and she gave me a funny look when I said the dexilant I'm taking wasn't taking care of all the acid and that I was taking two pepcid every night too. That's unusual I'm sure, but how unusual is it for a sleeve patient? I've had a local bariatric surgeon tell me that I will have no choice but to revise to bypass if the GERD is this bad at this point. My surgeon tells me nothing - just that it may improve, or might not. Is there anyone here who had really bad GERD after surgery that improved over time - even went away? Please, give me some hope. I really don't want another surgery. -Anne

    Skinny time!!!!!

I have had my gallbladder out (lap), been banded (lap), and am now 5 weeks post-op from the VSG (lap). I have to say the VSG was the easiest of them all. I was worried about traveling home alone on a 6 hour flight but the pain was minimal. It feels like you did a ton of sit-ups and the more you move, the better you feel. You're both going to do great. WASA was sick when she had her revision and had a longer recovery but did great as well.

    Band to sleeve on 8/9/13

I'm almost 3 weeks post op from band revision. Absolutely no complications, however, it was a more painful recovery than lapband 4 yrs ago. It might have something to do with the fact that it took my dr 30 mins to dig my band out of my stomach. Moving onto soft foods in a week (still on full liquids). You'll do fine. Some people say that it doesn't hurt as much as the band. Mine definitely did. Good luck!
  25. Now I'm confused. In one post NoJess says she is a revision from a band to a bypass and in another she says it's RNY. Are both considered a bypass? As for taking 7.5 warfarin a day, do you have clotting issues or is the warfarin for afib? I'm on long-term coumadin (generic for warfarin) therapy and I don't take that much, although yours may be higher because you're at a higher weight. I was actually recommended sleeve over gastric bypass because of the malabsorption issue. Because of clotting issues, I also had a filter/stent installed before and removed after surgery. The filter caught 2 clots, so it saved my life. I still think that Lacie has been very clear and very fair in her postings about what happened to her at Hospital MI. She has not made any aspersions against Dr Garcia's abilities as a surgeon. I agree that she posted "in real time" about her experience in Mexico. Maybe it wasn't sanitized to the sweetness and light some wanted about the hospital, but it was her real and honest experience. I can honestly say that I'd have raised cain had someone approached me wanting to reinsert the needle she showed. I actually cried before my filter removal surgery because they had such a tough time finding my vein. I had 6-8 sticks before they got one that actually worked. Had I posted that day, I'm sure people would not have liked my post either. I'm also certain that I was somewhat dehydrated on the day I had that last surgery, which made it more difficult for the nurses to find a usable vein. BarbieB, I think you'll be well cared for when you go for your sleeve surgery, no matter which surgeon you choose. I also think that Lacie's experience and willingness to speak out about it will help others in the future.
