I am 5 weeks out and doing the same as you. 4-500 calories per day, 60g protein and 64oz of water. This is what is recommended by my dr. I suppose if you go low fat and eat 1/4cup size you will automatically have 500 cal. Once we move up to 1/3 cup it will increase. I feel good except very low on energy. How about you?

Hello, I am just starting to wonder if this whole thing is a fraud. I am at my second fill. I have lost 63 pounds since 09/09/09 I don't feel that a single pound is from the lap band. I am still fighting my hunger. The weight I have lost has been from calorie counting and going to the gym 7 days a week. I have been burning around 565 calories a day at the gym. When I did this before the surgery I lost more weight that this in the past. I gained it back and that's why I had the surgery. Ia asking you guys if I made a huge mistake? Do I just feel like this because I don't know what restriction is yet? Please help? I seek the truth. Thank You in advance, Gary

The reason that you burn more calories on the eliptical is that you are moving your whole body mass, while cycling you are only using your legs. I find that I almost double the amount of calories I burn if I use the eliptical. It's certainly my cardio of choice.

Could it be muscle mass gain or maybe not enough calories? Or maybe just a plateau... Hope the scale gets moving again soon!

The N.P. checked my incisions. Which all looked fine there is some slight bruising on the top of the stitches for my port site but she said that it was not enough to be concerned about. Talked with the dietician and went over the foods I was able to handle the last week so I am now on mushies! Had some baked fish and mashed sweet taters for dinner. It was pretty enjoyable to not drink all my food lol. I go back in one month for a fill. The dietician warned that closer to to the date I may start to feel more and more hungry but right now hunger is not the problem it's more a mental thing that I FEEL like I'm missing out on something but when it actually comes time to eat I can barely get in enough Protein for the day. today was the most daily calories I've had since surgery and the total was 400. I am tolerating walking well and thinking about getting back to the Y for some elliptical work because its just getting colder and colder every day here in Illinois I know I will not be able to stroll around the block for too much longer. Does anyone else get the reaction from anyone that the tiny bites and small amount of food you can handle is ridiculous? Many people have said they don't see how I can be healthy on so little

Yesterday I was so not interested in my shakes. I only drank half for breakfast and half for lunch. Needless to say I was starving yesterday afternoon. I cooked a whole chicken in the crockpot all day and it was calling my name when I got home. LOL Well I had 6oz of breast meat and 1 cup of chicken stuffing. It was pretty filling. Last night I was feeling very empty so I had a small bowl of mini wheats and 2% milk. I went a little over my calories. But my carbs were high becasue of the stuffing. I am struggling so much with this diet. I am going to weight in agian today so hopefully I am still on track to losing weight. I have lost about 10 pounds so I still have 10 pounds to go till surgery and I have 2 weeks so I think It is very doable. I am trying to keep strong.

Food To Try - Moo Shoo
kiwiladydee replied to kiwiladydee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks!!! I'm eating about 1/3 cup nothing drastic. My calories are so far under a day, this help me get Protein in. I can't eating anything fried or with bread. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -
You say you've only had one fill but feel too tight. Normally, it takes several fills to reach true restriction. Also, I wonder if you are eating slider foods. Slider foods go down easy but are often high in calories. Are you exercising? How many ccs are in your band and just how full are you? How much weight did you need to lose and what is your goal weight? These are all question that need answered in order to give you a full response. Hang in there and you'll figure it out so that you're band will work for you. Best wishes!

I started off at 250lbs, am now down to 190 and my goal is 145. I was banded in Mexico and only have a 4cc band. Right now it's filled to 1.9cc. I walk 1.5-2 miles 4-5 days a week and get into the gym for extra cardio and weights about twice a week. I haven't been counting calories really, and maybe that's where I need to start. My surgeon sent me home with instructions for 600-800 calories a day, but that doesn't seem like enough. I may be guilty of eating some slider foods, like tomato soup and mashed potatoes on occasion, but for the most part I eat a lot of salmon, salad, chicken, and raw fruits and veggies. Thanks for your insight! I don't want to fail at this, quitting just isn't an option!

Getting sufficient calories?
francheskii replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm averaging about 800-900 calories. ...almost 7 months out. I'm having a hard time with 2 shakes per day. I always have 1....but hardly 2...I know this is important so you feel full -
Hi- just a quick question for all the veterans. I was banded last Thursday. Since then I have not been hungry at all. My doctor gave me 2 goals for week 1- drink 64oz of Water a day and drink 3 Protein shakes per day. Other than the protein, I'm on a completely clear liquid diet. My question is that I have had absolutely no trouble drinking tons of water and my Protein Shakes. I'm not drinking them because I'm hungry- only to meet my goals. I have read on here that lots of people have trouble keeping these things down in the beginning. Is it also normal to not have trouble? My other minor worry is that I'm taking in so little calories. I'm guessing this is no big deal though since its just the first week?

On the Struggle Bus
Creekimp13 replied to EagerPenguin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three weeks out, my plan is cool with a little turkey, a little bit of potatoes, some apple sauce, etc. Cucumbers not so much...need a few more weeks for those. But turkey cut very small and chewed very well is totally ok on my plan 3 weeks post. Deli turkey is so soft, I can't imagine why you couldn't have it. (that said, you should follow your plan) If I were still on protein shakes at this point, I'd be miserable. I'm glad to be eating 1000 calories a day. I feel human again. Also have great energy to exercise....which feels pretty dang good. -
hi everyone, im feeling blue today

I know how you feel. I'm about 9 weeks out and it is moving very slow. I see the amount of weight others lost and I'd be lying if I said it doesn't bother me. I give myself pep talks but sometimes it's just frustrating. Eating about 800 calories a day and not losing much . . . doesn't seem right! -
Anyone else have Chaotic weight loss?
slvarltx replied to slvarltx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Djmohr I am actually beginning to worry about losing too much weight. I guess that's why I asked the question if anyone has had this. I used as a goal weight what I weighed when I got out of the Army in the mid 90's and was at 10% body fat. At this rate I will be at goal in about 6 weeks, but then what? I have cranked up my calories to over 1500, but that's about as much as I can eat at this point without going into slider foods, which I really have no desire to do. -
Let's talk about food with a crunch. Make This Entry A Draft Lock Entry Delete Entry Edit Entry Posted by AngieB , Yesterday, 07:44 AM I brough several bags of Kay's Naturals foods They had a sale and a good sample package so I bought some goodies. When I focus on protein, I am finding more and more that I want something with a crunch. Now, I didn't realize I was a "cruchy" type of food eater. Before now, I have not been big into chips or foods that offered that crunch. Most of the proteins' I eat now are soft, chewy or meaty. That completely leaves out the crunch. So on the search I went. This morning I had a bag of Honey Almond Protein cereal. When I opened the bag and poured some out, my first reaction was that the pieces looked airy. Taste was good for a protein cereal. Over all good taste for the nutrition facts. This is such good advice. Sometimes we 'forget' all the little things we've tucked into our mouths during the day and they do add up. Oh how they add up. My 17 year old is taking college classes and has to drive 45 minutes one way every Monday evening to his classes. Since he's still a pretty new driver and the winter roads are bad, I go with him and just sit in the lounge with my crochet for 3 hours until he's done. Well I discovered their little cafe makes a sugar free chai that is phenomenal. I've been drinking 2 every Monday night figuring they were sugar free and 'safe'. Bahahahaha!!! Wrong! I asked them last night if they had the nutritional info on these things and a 'regular' which I've been getting has 350 calories because it has heavy cream in it and that's where all the calories are coming from!!! So I've been drinking 700 calories *above* my usual 1500. Good grief. .

How many calories are you eating 3 weeks or more post op?
MarylandMommy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get between 700-800 3.5 weeks post op....this includes 30 carbs, 70 protein and 30 fat...but my carbs and fat are usually slacking a little....I am not really losing any weight and my nutritionist is not too concerned, but wants me to watch it for the next couple weeks since I am not eating that many cals....Do you think if I increased my caloric intake I would lose more weight? I am going in for my 1st fill on Monday, which she does not think will make a great difference since I am not eating alot...any help is appreciated!! I am very strict will logging on daily plate too...so I know my cals are accurate!!!! Again any insight is greatly appreciated! -

How Many Calories Should I Eat In Order To Lose Weight?
Lisa821 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read about others "not eating enough calories". I would imagine that each person is different based on their size, how fast their metabolism was preop, whether they're exercising or not....etc. So how do I find out if I'm not eating enough calories. I've lot 30 pounds in 5 wks, which is great but not really the steady weight loss I expected. Could it be that I'm not eating enough calories? Also, if I'm not eating enough, where should I get these calories? I am already struggling to get enough protein but then I'm so full of protein that I am literally working at eating so as to get "enough" calories. I am really starting to get confused. I lost like 16 lbs in the first two weeks postop. Then stalled for the 3rd week or so. Then I dropped a pound a day in the 4th week. Then nothing for days. Then one pound, then nothing, then one pound and now nothing for four days. Maybe there is nothing I can do about it but maybe there is?? I get in about 750 cal/day and about 60g protein/day. I just got cleared to start exercising but I'm concerned about burning calories when I already might not be getting "enough". This is starting to get to be ALOT to think about and sort through. In my past, if things got to confusing, I would eat my self into a numb state of food bliss. Thankfully, I can't do that now but I would like some answers. I can't afford to see a nutritionist. Long story but the jist is that my husband is out of work from the economy, I spent my savings on my surgery and wasted a ton of savings a year ago trying to get approved through my insurance company. (They denied me so I had to pay cash for all those appts). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. -
How Many Calories Should I Eat In Order To Lose Weight?
mocha replied to Lisa821's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Lisa - I've got similar challenges in that my body is fighting me for every last ounce lost! I've found that if I vary my caloric intake every couple of days (like more soup based protein on one day and solid on another day), I can sometimes make my body shake off a little more weight. Also, if I don't exercise at least twice a week, I'm completely stalled. I've not put a calorie number to this game yet but I know exercise gets the scales moving every week that weight loss slows down. Good luck as you figure out how to balance to get your best results. -
How Many Calories Should I Eat In Order To Lose Weight?
Lisa821 replied to Lisa821's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to figure that out too. Should,I eat more calories on days I work out? It will be hard cuz I feel like I have to work at getting in 800 calories as it is. plus when you work out you need more fluids which is just gonna take up space in my belly. I guess I'm just gonna have to dive in and try it. I play volleyball on fridays for an hour and saturdays and sundays I'll be swimming and lifting weights. I'll post about it and let you know how its working for me. you let me know what works for you, k? -
Hi guys, I don't post much on here but I read everything. I was banded June 28 of 2011. My starting weight was 262 and I know weigh 208. My frustration comes in here. I have not lost anything in almost 3 weeks. Nothing at all. I have fluxuated from 209 to 207. I am at a loss because I really don't feel like I need a fill. I have restriction I just can't lose. I don't know how to change it up at this point. I am really at a loss. I went back to my protein shakes thinking that would help me out. I am not a great exerciser and I know that will help. Other then that can someone help me try to kick it up again. Also my hubby thinks its because I am not getting enough calories. My dr. was not big on caloric intake just protein. I am not able to get much over 600 to 700 calories a day. Please give me some pointers. Thank you

I could really use someone to talk to..
mljalways replied to ltnlisa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are welcome, are you working out? I am and I have found that I am hungrier too so my doc told me to make sure I am still hitting 1200 calories of food and to make up what I am burning off. -
Every doctor is different. I see a dietitian also and she tells me what to eat. I was told no liquids for 30 minutes before and 30 after eating. I sometimes do have a small drink if needed. I have protein shakes for breakfast every morning and have been doing that since March and was banded in July. I have about 1000/1200 calories a day with about 100 mg of protein. I would call your dietitian for some advice if you don't like what the doctor said. Also, do you go to support meetings? I go once a month and they are super and very helpful.
