    My Boobs Hurt!

You're only 7 days post op Relax.....make sure to be up and walking around for at least 5-10 minutes of every hour you're awake. You had three different surgeries, your body is adjusting to a whole lot right now.
  3. My last fill was the end of May and I am scheduled for another this Thursday. While I am able to eat a good bit at times there are times when I can't. It doesn't seem like there is any rhyme or reason to it. While I was on vacation I got stuck so bad on tuna fish (Who would have thought?) and actually ended up throwing up. I notice I don't eat as much as I used to but I have been stuck at the same weight for 6 weeks. Should I get a fill?

    First Airplane Trip Post Band...

I will also be flying the week after banding, so this is a good topic. The NP assured me that I wouldn't be beeping through TSA security, so that's good. Can I carry protein shakes in a carry on?

    Home alone again

My DH just left for his big week long camping out with his highschool buddies. I know he couldn't hardly wait to go, he tries to play it down, but I know he can't wait to get there. I just wish he would get tired of them. They have been doing this for 30+ years. I think this is the first year one of the guys is only going to be there one evening. Maybe the rest will get tire of acting like kids and grow up. I know he has fun, but after 30 years it about time to give it up. I'm alone in the house and I have so much I need to be doing, but I have yet to get started. I usually get a lot done this week, while hes out of the house. He isn't going to Canada fishing this year, this will be the first year in about 20 that he hasn't done that. He spends more time with his buddies camping and fishing then he has with me in the 37 years. I can count on one hand how many vacations we have had together. I should never have let him start all the trips, but I was busy with kids, working, and I never seem to have the vacation time. You know I always had to take time off when the kids were sick, so I never had the time for vacations. Now that I have retired from the work force you think we would go somewhere, but no we don't. I went to New York with my girlfriend in May for 4 nights and five days, of course my DH couldn't get off work. That the usually excuse that I hear a lot when I want to go some where. He always has time for his camping trips. It really hurts my feeling. I really tried to tell him couple of years ago how I felt, but as usally he is not in tune with my feeling. He alway makes me feel guilty about things. I always felt like he is a good provider and he deserved to have special time, but sometimes I just wish we want to have the time with me. Oh well I'm just feeling sorry for myself today. The challenge for this week is to be good while I'm by myself. I know is will go good. I hope to get a lot done.
  6. I was banded 1 1/2 years ago. I'm doing well. I'm leaving for a two week vacation to the coast of Maine and am REALLY looking forward to eating the wonderful lobster there. I was there two years ago and know how awesome it is. I eat a lot of seafood, including crab, and don't have a problem with it, but lobster tends to be a little "tougher" or more rubbery than most seafood. I wondered if any of you up there have a problem eating it now that you're banded. I have trouble eating tough or dry white meat chicken so I'm concerned. I've read that lobster is a very low fat, superior source of protein, so I'm hoping the texture won't pose a problem.
  7. Hi there, I am 2 weeks post op and I when I move a certain way or twist to the left I get like a burning sensation in 1 spot. DId anyone else have that???

    Life is ALL about Expectations

When I researched this lap band surgery I really thought that the weight would come off a little faster than this. I know it is safer to go slower. I just want to hit this restriction thing and embrace it. I am still hungry often. I go next week for a weigh in and another fill. I have lost a total of 23 lbs and need some help to change my ticker. LOL. I try to follow all the rules but I am not perfect. I gave up diet coke and do not eat and drink at the same time. I have made so many adjustments and just want the best results. My surgery was May 11 th. I have now hit my $3000.00 deductible for my Insurance company and now all my appointments for my surgeon for a fill will be covered 100%. Any advice from all of you that have had great success I would love to hear. Thanks for all your support LB family !!!

On My Way to a new me...

After my battle with my insurance company, I was approved. Initially I was told that because I had given birth to twins in the last year, that more than likely that was where my weight gain came from. After they recieved my medical records they saw that I was infact pounds smaller after the birth of my daughters. I had this surgery to improve my health, I have horrible cycles, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and I'm just out of shape. I need to be in good health to take care of my daughters. It has been a struggle for me. The pre-op two weeks diet, i did in moderation, i kicked candy and sodas but i backslide on small portions of food. After surgery on the 28th, i'm scared but a burger sure sounds good. I can not wait to lose this hunger feeling. the only thing keeping me going is the fact that i went through so many doctor visits to get here to screw it all up and I dont want to make myself sick. I'm struggling! I hate the protein drinks! can't drink no more than two, bare drank one today and that was because i put it in coffee. I'm dying for some grits or potatoes. My head hurts alot. taking multi-vit. drinking some water, not really thirsty. I have gas moments and it feels so good to burp. No bowel movement yet. I have consumed a few oz. of chicken broth over the last few days. Any advice?:scared2:
  11. Well my last personal hurdle in making this decision was just cleared. I met with my podiatrist and asked him flat out if this would help my feet. He said that it absoutely would and he supports this 100% percent! :w00t: That is what I needed to know to put me at 100% on this decision, and also to make my husband feel more comfortable. He also gave me a shot of cortisone and anesthetic to help me along for a few weeks. I HATE shots, but he did a good job and I didn't feel it. So now it is really all up to the insurance. I called the WLS center today and tried to get clarification on if Aetna will deny me if I haven't been at 40 BMI for 2 years. They didn't know. I am going to call the insurance company again tomorrow and see if I can get anyone to answer my question. One simple question and I can't get a very easy yes or no. I guess maybe that is good that I can't just get a flat out no. I can't get my records copied from my PCP until next week. I have been eating everything in site in order to put on the 5 pounds I need before I reweigh. Never thought I would be so happy to have Easter candy in the house! I feel bloated and gross though. I want to weigh in , make the 40 BMI and then get the extra 5 off!

    Pain in upper left stomach

I was banded on Sept. 18th and had pain on my left side for most of that next week. At the end of the 1st week it went away. If your pain continues, I would have it checked out. Good luck to you!

    Reflux Revisited???

Hi Wild Blu! Ive been having nighttime reflux off and on since December - my last fill. Everytime I think that its time to get a slight unfill, the reflux stops. Because I was worried about the reflux being due to a slipped band, I asked for a barium swallow to check on the position. Everything checked out ok. Soon afterwards the reflux was much better. Probably due to a number of things... prilosec qd and no eating after 8pm. For the past week this reflux junk has kicked up again. I even called my pcp today to get a script for something stronger then prilosec. (shrugs shoulders) I dont know! Have you read our "sticky" thread about reflux? Good luck - and let me know what happens.
  14. I completely agree! I was apprehensive and it took me a long time before I took the steps and considered the band really seriously. I am 3 weeks post op and since the 2 week pre op liquid diet, I have lost 21 lbs. The discomfort lasts a little over a week and is very bearable. I'm 28 and wish I had done it when I was 24 when I first considered it. Your head has to be in the right place and of course you're going to have doubts and questions so do loads of research, watch you tube diaries, look at before and after pics of others who have been successful, then imagine your own transformation and all the confidence that will come with a wonderful, new lifestyle. I've realised that by following the programme, I'm enjoying my reeducation and my confidence has increased, my mood is better, my head is happier, I have increased energy levels. I'm discovering myself and my body for the first time. I understand that what I put into my body has consequences. If I choose to put the correct stuff in then the consequences will be good, guaranteed. I know I can succeed! I have accepted that this is it, this is my time.... You can have all those feelings to. It's like by making the decision you're in control of your life and the possibilities are endless. I can't wait to get to the finish line! The band has made this a reality. It literally assists you. You get to know it, you begin to understand and be aware of actual hunger- ask yourself, am I feeding my body or my mind and you'll be amazed at how sensible you can become. It is hard at first, but you can do it. Just like I did. I still have a long way to go but I have dropped my BMI from 42 to 39 in a month. I'm 20% there already... The whole process so far has felt good, it is staged apart so that you have mini goals along the way- 2 weeks pre op liquid, op, 2 weeks post op liquid, week on mushy foods, week 4 introduce textureed healthy tasty foods. And in that time, new good habits have been formed, your tastes change, your mindset shifts, your motivation remains.... This has been the best decision I have made so far! I wouldnt change it for the world. I hope I might have given you some food for thought Good luck with your decision

    Borderline - 38%

Just one word of caution. (I am a Brit and know nothing of US financial issues!) Banding is the cheapest surgery initially but has long term, on-going costs. You can probably find a package which includes a certain number if fills but you need to allow for further expense. I paid for my own surgery and now that it is done, our national health service picks up any costs. I am NOT trying to frighten you out if being banded! I love my band! Just making sure you're aware of possible later costs. But you may need: Fills beyond the number in your package. Defills if the band tightens over the years because of scar tissue. XRays if you have problems. Leaks in the tubing or port -these require operations under general anaesthetic. Slips, can require operation to reposition. Worst case scenario, removal. My own package included my fill for a year. My band has not caused me any major problems but if I had had to pay since my package ended, it wouid have cost me maybe £4000 (£ not $). I have had two small unfills, three routine annual barium swallows, an XRay to identify a problem, an operation to repair a leak. Now none of that cost me anything. But I have a long term online American friend who is appallingly in debt because her band was causing her major problems and her insurance company (even though they initally paid for the band) refused to pay fir its removal as it wasn't an emergency.
  16. I like to leave myself notes around the house, especially at my desk and on the refrigerator and other places near where I do work. Any suggestions for some encouragement? I am still lingering in "Insurance Purgatory" and I have been really sick for weeks. I could really use some uplifting. (comedy is always appreciated, also - I have a pretty quirky sense of humor!) Thanks! You are all awesome! Finding this place has really helped me over the last year of trying for surgery. I am just starting to wear down a bit.:cool2:

    "rock"tober

That is what my mission is...to Rocktober. I am going to have a fantastic month (even if it kills me). My goal is to be back in onederland by Thanksgiving. That is approx 6 weeks away. Attainable? Sure it is. There is only one thing that can keep me from doing it....ME. So, with that being said, it is time to get off my ass and get to work! See ya!

    Life change vs. Diet

I have a couple of tasks at work that I am responsible for each week. Then there are a few each month and so on. Sometimes, like today, it comes time to do these tasks and I can't figure out where the time went. How could it possibly be time to do this when I feel like I just finished it? It's a never ending circle. Dieting is a task. Quite frankly, all my life, it was a task of low importance. At the beginning, I would plan my entire week of food, exercise, etc. It would go on like that for a few weeks, until I wouldn't have the time and then suddenly the diet is over. With the Band, I have found that I can break that cycle! Life is getting in the way of my tasks (exercise, calorie tracking, etc.), but the Band is still there for me. Right now, I'm in a great place! I still got myself to work out at lunch today, but I know that there will come a time when I won't. Something will get in the way. And it will be okay because I have my Band and it will keep me enough in check that I will be able to take a pause and get back to it without failing. That, my friends, is an amazing feeling! Side note: my mom has been diagnosed with glaucoma and is having a procedure today to help with it. So, I'm praying extra for her today. Also: thank you to you all out there for your posts. Each and every one of you are inspiring me to get where I want to be and I can't possibly thank you enough. You guys rock!
  19. I picked up some tuna, wheat thins and carnation 4pks today as well. I don't know if I can wait until next week to have the tuna...I want it so bad! I might just mix some up and have a little! I need real food. I can't take potato anymore! Pasta and Bread are two of my favorite things as well. Let me know how you make out with them!
  20. Ohhh, I love wheat thins!! I have not received the booklet with the sample menus. I'm sure I'll get that next week at my appointment with Kelly. I have a treadmill and many exercise tapes that are collecting dust! They need a good cleaning! Do you drink any other types of protein drinks other than the carnation instant breakfast? I can't stomach many of them!
  21. I am currently in therapy. I continued with my therapist who completed my psych evaluation. And the plus with this counselor is that he is a certified bariatric counselor. He is able to address my current weight loss journey that my previous counselor sorta did not have a clue. I am a stress eater, so we mainly talk about life issues that stress me. And this strategy helps because I feel like I can decompress every week.
  22. Just hit my 8 weeks post op! But I'm getting nervous because I'm starting to feel hunger again. And starting to eat 3 meals, small Of course, a day. I'm so nervous to gain any weight. I feel as though I've already stretched my Pouch bc I have made some bad choices in my diet. Help! Did anyone else feel like this?

    Concern with Taking Pills Post-op

I started taking my meds uncrushed yesterday....one week post op. I haven't had any problems. I think it just depends on how much restriction you have, and I don't have very much right now.

I'm still on the jorney of losing the weight

HELLO TO ALL, IT'S BEEN A FEW WEEKS SINCE I VISIT MY FAVORITE WEBSITE. I HAD MY FIRST FILL TWO WEEKS AGO IT WENT WELL I'M DOWN 35 POUNDS AND I'M DO FOR ANOTHER FILL NEXT WEEK. I'M GOING TO KEEP IT REAL WITH MY LAPBAND PALS, THANKSGIVING WAS THE HARDEST DAY FOR ME I KNOW IN MY HEART I WASN'T EATING RIGHT. I DIDN'T EAT ALOT AT A TIME BUT I JUST KEPT GOING BACK FOR A LITTLE BIT OF THIS AND A LITTLE BIT OF THAT AND I REALLY WAS TRYING TO FIGHT THAT TEMPTATION BUT IT JUST WASN'T WORKING FOR ME. I'M BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK AGAIN, I WALKED 3 MILES ON SATURDAY AND GOING TO WALK 3 MILES THIS MORNING AND JUST TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME
  25. You all have made me feel so much better. I never thought I would have this last minute fear because I had been waiting so long for the surgery. I started with my first visit to the bariatric center in March '07 and becasue of unforseen problems I didn't end up with the actual surgery date until June 18th, 2008. When the realization hit that it was only a week away -- WOW-- it hit me! I'm still nervous, but I believe I'm ready. My pre-op visit yesterday went well. I was even told that after a few months I could have a little diet Pepsi, my fave. My doctor's office says that they've been reviewing the diet soda thing for a long time and see no evidence that it causes any harm. But it also has no nutritional value, so I intend to try to not have it, but it makes me feel a little better knowing later on I can try some if I want. I also met a really nice nurse that had adopted a little girl from China, like we have, and we talked about how much more I would be able to do with my kids. My husband and older daughter went hiking in the Adirondacks a few weeks back, and I didn't go because I knew I would just hold them back. Next year, I'm going!! Thanks for all of the encouragement!! --Gail
