    Taste issues

I am truly hoping I lose the desire altogether for Dt Coke!! I drank way to many of those things each day. That saying, I have not had but 1 Dt Coke in a week. So I think Om doing good with that at the minute and so far it doesnt bother me too bad. I do miss the fizz of it tho.

    Edamame and Artichokes?

You may struggle with vegetables that soon out unless they’re really well cooked. I’d add carrots, onions, celery, tomato, cauliflower, mushrooms, to soups, stews, etc. anything slow cooked from soft food. They’d be very soft & mushy. In solid food I found I could tolerate a little microwaved/steamed shredded cabbage or cauliflower, then green beans. Other vegetables were too coarse or tasted unpleasant for a few more weeks. But we’re all different. You can only try.
  3. I am at end of week 1 soft stage and tonight tried a small artichoke. I should have stopped at the leaves and saved the heart for tomorrow.
  4. Hi ! Yes so I am 12 days post op this surgery and i felt instant relief they always say notice a huge difference at 2 weeks post op and at 6 weeks post op you get go come off ppis and all the swelling is down! I had a stricture, my sleeve was sliding up through my diaphragm creating a sliding hiatal hernia and severe severe severe reflux. I have been on 5 different reflux meds and was taking 120 mg a day plus pepcid twice a day . Also was npo for ten weeks from aspirating on stomach acid and not able to keep anything down not even fluids . Was on tpn via picc line and a feeding tube . So it was pretty bad . But this surgery saved my life!
  5. I agree 100% @Jaelzion. Besides clearer advice about portion sizes, food choices, food sensitivities or intolerances that may occur, etc., I’d also add discussions about things like stalls, hair loss, constipation... These issues can cause a lot of unnecessary anxiety. There’s enough to work through enough with the surgery, changes to our diet & lifestyle without these worries as well.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

So, for second week in a row I'm down 1.2lbs. That feels painfully slow. I mean, it's still the right direction but, well you understand. I'm 2 weeks away to my 6 month mark. My goal was 290 by the 15th... but since I was 297 this morning, I'd predict 294. I shouldn't complain ... it's still all good. To focus on the bright side, I'm 2 weeks under 300. I'm much more active than I was 6 months ago and I'm feeling great. I'm walking at the rec center 4 to 5 days per week and hitting light weights after along with a short sweat in the sauna. Diet wise, my day looks about like this... coffee and protein shake, ... maybe an apple, 1/2 Gatorade zero and water with benefiber, maybe 1 egg around 11, tuna or chicken or egg salad for lunch, other half Gatorade zero and water with benefiber, usually fish or shrimp for dinner... or I just try to keep it reasonably healthy and on a saucer sized plate. Sometimes a late afternoon snake as well. So, the one thing I know I can do is a couple of liquid only days... that should help to jumpstart my progress again, maybe I can do that mid week this coming week. Good luck everyone.
  7. The lady that told me about WLS (a friend of my aunts and she introduced me sO she could share her experience) was self pay and her consult to surgery was pre COVID and it was two weeks exactly and that was cause of the pre op diet.

    Weight loss stall

Thanks for giving this time frame of 3-6 weeks. I had surgery on March 14th. I lost 20 lbs, and then I've been stalled for 4 weeks. I lost more weight before the surgery than after. It's deflating on morale. I've never seen someone say 6 weeks happens, too. I sometimes feel like I wrecked my body for no reason. It's like I'm making myself miserable in the food I can't eat with no results.

I might just try the patches to see if my bloodwork after surgery is good or not. At least like liveaboard15 is doing for a couple weeks.

    Did I screw up lol

you will be fine. I have been eating strained soups without issue. Last week i had some chicken enchilada type soup and i just strained out all the solid stuff. No issue. My discharge paperwork tho did tell me to avoid going out to eat for at least 2 months.
  11. Im doing better with my liquid diet. Before the diet I had lost 22 lbs so Im hoping I will drop another 10 lbs (wishful thinking on my part) I have today, tomorrow Monday and then surgery Tues sometime. Surely I can make it 3 more days lol. But honestly this chicken bone broth is for the birds literally. What did anyone add to their broth to make it more tolerable after drinking do much of it?

    Taste issues

Good day: my surgery was 3/23. I had a Gastric Bypass. I am having issues with no enjoying pre surgery foods. Any one having any of the same?

How long are you missing work?

I was the same 8 to 9 weeks it was for me for the same reasons. I had a really rough time early on .
  14. I had my surgery in 4/26. I don't regret it. Even through all the pain lol. I do however really miss eating. Being on clear liquids is so hard. Next week I get to add protein shakes. I'm counting down the days 😊.
  15. You may find you dont really want things you had before. I am about to have surgery next week Tues and just being on the pre op diet I have found I dont really miss my 2 nemesis, Dt Coke and Warburton bread (English bread) lol. I actually thought those would just kill me to not have but I am making good strides without them and Im not even post op yet. So I am happy about that. I read/hear frequently that your tastes may change post op so you may find some of the things you liked before you may not like post op. As others mentioned above, you can try different things and find what you do like. Im not opposed to trying new things and I look forward to smaller quantities and weight loss. For me, that in itself outweighs anything. But we'll see how I do 1st week post op lol Hang in there, hopefully each week will get better for you.

How long are you missing work?

I had some time built up at work from months ago. I am taking a full 2 weeks off and I have a desk job as well. Currently I still work from home for 3 weeks and 1 week in the office a month. I am having surgery and off for the the week in the office. So after the 2 weeks off, Ill have 2 weeks to work at home post op then 1 week in the office the final week of May (since there is 5 weeks). So by the next time I have to go in to work I will be post op 4 weeks. Hopefully that works well for me.

    Shopping in Bariatric Pal Store

I have bought several things. I am currently using the patches but just for the first few weeks til i can get into solid food. I also bought the Barimelt multi vitamin and the Bariatric pal Multivitamin ONE with 45mg iron. Tho i have tried that one and that one makes me nauseated for about 30 minutes about 15 minutes after taking it. Also i love the Chike Nutrition High Protein Iced Coffee (Chocolate mocha) Its delicious. I also got the little protein shots but i see they been sold out for a while.
  18. I barely ate the first month. Like you it was a chore for me and and the same time i was sort of disgusted by it. My first two weeks, i was lucky if i hit 400 a WEEK…not a day, a WEEK. The second 2 weeks i was got to about 300-400 cals a day. It slowly increased as time went on. I’m 3.5 years out now and i can get in at least 1800 cals with no issue, eat a wide variety of things, and actually feel real hunger. Though truth be told there are still days here and there when the old food-aversion situation comes around and i just dont feel like eating...so I don’t. The days when im a hungry hippo balances it all out so it’s all good. You are still early on, and what is going on with you now will not last forever. Hang in there, you’ll get into a groove eventually. Good Luck! ❤️

    Recent Injury Rant

My surgeons office encouraged exercising as soon as possible so I started walking one week post op. My weight at surgery was 257 so it’s really a 35 pound lost since surgery and 9 lbs lost prior to surgery. I try to walk at least three days a week but I do walk a ton at work as well. I think also the diet plan seems to be a lot stricter then others. I’m almost 9 weeks post op and I’m still only doing soft and chopped foods, only cooked veggies and no fruit. 7.6 pounds is amazing in two weeks!
  20. I feel like doctors are really failing their patients by not having these conversations prior to surgery. Every bariatric surgery patient should have a good idea of what the progression of healing will look like before they ever sign the consent forms. That being said, I'm 3 years out from surgery and I don't have to weigh or measure quantities at all if I choose not to. I can eat a small, but regular-sized meal without worrying about my restriction. There are only two things I used to eat that I don't now - ground beef and barbecue. Ground beef upsets my tummy and barbecue doesn't taste good to me anymore. I don't drink beer, but I was served coffee in the hospital the day after surgery (thank goodness, because I'm a total coffee addict 😁). So with possibly a few exceptions, you should be able to eat whatever you want eventually. And as your restriction eases, you won't have to measure your intake precisely (although you will always want to be aware of portion sizes). I hope that helps!

    Need to vent

Welcome to the forums. This is a rant I can get behind, quite familiar to be honest. Aside from the promotion, which seemed out of your control all the way through, you actually took steps to deal with your frustration and angst. I'd call your response to your lack of control a win. Good show. Bear in mind that the first few weeks or months post-op can just be a circus of out of control situations. If you approach them in the same problem solving way you should do great. Good luck, Tek

    OMG the constipation is real

yep. Normal. That first one (that can take up to a week to "arrive") is often a doozy. You might want to try some other products - like milk of magnesia - or magnesium citrate. We were advised to take daily stool softeners at first to make it easier...but you may be beyond that at this point.

Hydration and vitamin bar ? 🤔

I would ask the IV store. Mine helped me a lot and suggested I get the big hydration bag. I started the IV 1 or 2 weeks after surgery. I also did acupuncture for healing.

How long are you missing work?

I had 6 months of sick time accrued, so I took 6 weeks. I really wanted to spend that time working on changing habits, forming new ones and walking. I really wanted to make sure I was cementing my 'new life' before I introduced another element into the change. I didn't have any post op complications or issues. I know not everyone has the ability to take so much time off, but I found it really helpful for my emotional well being as well. I didn't know if I'd be super hormonal, in pain, or whatever and I thought healing mentally and physically and only focusing on ME would be beneficial, and it was.
