Help, I'm hungry AGAIN!
nenes78 replied to bogglesauce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They could be if overeaten. Even healthy foods can be over consumed. Here are some snacks Intakt Snacks Cheese Lover from BP vs Lays Classic. The BP snacks are less carbs overall and more protein but the package (2 servings) is the same as one small bag of chips 28g, as for calories the chips are 10 calories less than the whole Intakt Bag. Not saying I recommend the Lays over the Intakt snack. I suggest you food log everything you consume. Logging holds me accountable for my food intake and I can review what is working and what I need to take out, and I log everything from a bite of cheesecake to my protein shakes and salads including dressing and condiments. I have been logging for over a year now and am 8 months out of surgery today. Good luck. -

Hey all you IF fans...I did it for a while pre-op during the time I was required to lose 10% of my body weight for insurance to cover my VSG. I'm only a few weeks post-op now. Is IF something you all would wait to start til after the healing process and onto regular foods 100%? Sent from my moto g(6) play using BariatricPal mobile app -
Tomorrow the decision will be made on the gasteic sleeve request. We submitted 10/10, regence bcbs of oregon waited 13 days to review and tell me the drs notes were specific enough of when the 6 month diet started, then surgeons office took a week to send the new information in. Anyway. I'm so nervous. I'm scared. I literally dont know what I'll do if I dont get approved. I cannot lose weight at all. I est under 20 grams of carbs a day for 5 years with no loss. Just stay the same. Please pray for an approval for me

How long did it take to hit your goal and when did your loss slow down?
Kay07 replied to danieocean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost to my first goal of 175 (10lbs away!), and I am a week shy of 6 months out post surgery. I have lost 75lbs since surgery, and 102lbs since starting this process in March 2018. My weight loss has slowed significantly over the past month in comparison to the previous. I was averaging about 10-14lbs a month, and am now down to about 5-8lbs a month, but it is to be expected as I am closing in on goal. Additionally I kicked up my workouts significantly, so despite the numbers coming down slower, I feel better and the sizes are dropping off me like crazy! (Not so good for my wallet, dropping $300 on clothes every month because the consignment shops near me suck!) You will loose best the first few months, but as long as you are sticking with your plan it will keep coming off. -
Neck/facelift, Anyone?
ProudGrammy replied to Screwballski's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@Screwballski i had a neck/face lift two years ago. i'm very pleased/happy with my neck. Not so happy about my face.☹️ left side is nice and firm/toned - right side has excess skin, not firm/toned doc said i look eight years younger - that response to me is terrible couldn't even say 10 yrs younger because he knew it wasn't true - thus saying eight years he felt "safer" anyway you look at it, i don't think facelift was successful i still feel/look as cute as a button!!😉 kathy -
I had my surgery on 10/26. Go for my post-op appt tomorrow. For the last 2 days I have not been able to stomach any type of protein shake or soup. All I can seem to get down is water. Not throwing up just feel stuffed.

And now I have furniture suitable for my happiness. If you came to visit, I would be less ashamed to show you into my living situation. I now have a loveseat/small couch.combo with an ottoman. Comfy and in need, an extra seat, a Broyhill, so well made. Didn't think I liked the shade of upholstery, but my son was right, they do fit in with other pieces of furniture for a design plan. He decided to curl up on it for a nap, tossed a blanket over him, and let him sleep. My 💩was strained, oh it was there but like I no longer had the oomph, but lower tummy pain. Thank you (sarcasm) Stricture for not giving enough diet to keep things moving. Tried and tried, it was there and soft thanks to Miralax, but pfft. So I finally broke down, took a dose of Cherry MofM, Precious Pouch said "Whattt?" told her Shut up, hold it in there, no "pukies "I need relief. Finally crawled on new Queen-sized bed with Quilt on top, between the being able to stetch out, the MoM , or a modicum of lightened worry, but I got results, may have lost a pair of Granny Panties, but I will soon " undergrow" them, maybe go to Just My Size, Fruit of Loom, or even Vaniety Fair et all. That is one thing I hated back,in perimenopause, the staining so I used get white so it could be bleached, now I will purchase prints, polka dots and different shades. Even if no one else requests to see them, I know I am,pretty there! And I will buy things with some style but heavy on cute" Feel-good" as I get smaller life is too short to be a gray sweat- suited BLOB! Going to start on my minimum 64 oz of fluid, planning 96 and up, but 128 might keep my 3 kidneys pink and processing. Didn't void much yesterday and that AIN'T GOOD for innards MY Age. Tony, the guy who helped me transport, brought his cousin Jack Clancy to help. Kinda weedy to look at, all the years I knew both families I never realized the family relationship. But boy, could Jack work! Don't prejudge by looks, I helped as much as I could and not strain my tummy muscles, don't want popping mini hernias, but he pitched in, helped arrange my furnishings better. Got a nice" to me" sturdy solid kitchen /dining table and 4 very pretty honey oak solid dining table chairs.Really needed those chairs, need to sit down frequently, low calories don't keep one from dizziness. Miss Poodle, you asked about nausea and it's brother-in-law vomit. Well Friday, Saturday , a little Monday. Didn't eat enough yesterday to matter, if I get in my Zofran, it does help enough, to keep it in the background. It 8am- 4pm-10pm, the Carafate 6am -- noon- 6pm- midnight, I try to work the rest in around them, fluid when I Can, liquid diet items and pray I haven't shortened my life. But an embarrassing sameness, gosh I miss real foid, tasty food, things with natural density and fiber to them, will Genpro and Benefiber and MoM be residents of my lifestyle forever and ever? Want my Premier Proteins back! Muscle Milk is starting to gag me, Wal-Mart has seen fit to restock only Chocolate and Vanilla PP, been allergic to Chocolate since carried Baby #2, over 40 years , he's the one now a Angel😪👼💅👼for 10 years last January. And I vow I will never drink vanilla after this is over, hate thick white and tasteless, ycch!

Ok, here's some stuff: I have this cream called Pennsaid. https://www.pennsaid.com/ Then also: Emla Cream https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-2358-8170/emla-topical/lidocaine-prilocaine-cream-topical/details Aloe Vera with Lidocain (Walgreens/CVS) Oatmeal Baths (colloidal oatmeal) - Aveeno (Walgreens/CVS) Cold Baths Cold Compresses No tight clothing Then the big guns: Gabapentin (Neurontin) Amytriptiline (nerve pain, tri-cyclic anti-depressant) Norco (hydrocodone + acetominophen) - 10/325 (I take this when I can't stand the pain anymore.) Also the combo of muscle relaxants and Norco works awesome when the neuralgia is at a 8-10. Hope those help you hon! -
Hi I was sleeved 8/20. I lost 10 lbs pre-op and 40 post-op. Religiously getting in protein and fluids. Not as religious about exercise (3-4 times/week max). I am happy with my progress. Everyone is different. Hang in there and it will be worth it!

8-days Post-Op. Craving textures and spices. Afraid this is a sign of future failure.
CyndieRI replied to April Dawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no! Don’t be discouraged!! I’m not too far ahead of you (sleeved on 10/10) but the first 2 weeks are definitely the hardest!! When TV commercials come on for food, I hit mute and look away (or change the channel when my husband isn’t home - lol). It’s easier to just not look!! I know I was craving spicy food so once I was cleared for scrambled eggs, I made some and put some hot sauce on! Yummm! It definitely hit the spot!! I’m sure some more veteran sleevers can help more than I can - but that’s what helped me. And also, I’m REALLY sick of being so overweight! I need to do this for my health! Good luck!! -
I'm definitely at more than half a cup on the soft stuff like cottage cheese, too. (10/3 surgery date.) My nutritionists said to take small bites, to put the fork down between each bite, to chew everything to a paste, and to stop eating at half an hour, or when I feel full. So... that's what I do? My "properly full" mechanism still isn't really in place, but I can tell when I'm slightly over-full, anyway. Soups, I can eat significantly more than half a cup. Like, I really think soups might not be the best choice for me. Ground meat, it's less than half a cup, but still more than a quarter cup. My sense is that, as we move on to denser foods, we'll feel more restriction. So others on the forum have said, anyway. So I think we're OK?

I’m supposed to be on a 10 day post op starting yesterday but I keep cheating 🤦🏾♀️. 1 Toddler size portion/meal and nothing UNHEALTHY. I was put on a Protein Shake, broth, coffee and popsicles pretty much diet. How are u guys staying committed ? What does you’re preop consist of? I feel defeated. :/
-
I would go by what your surgeon recommends but I will say mine didn’t give exact measurements to eat. I’ve watched a lot of videos as you and have seen very small portion recommendations like 1/4 c and would not feel satisfied at all. When I was on the blended soup I was trying to only have 1/2 a c and it wasn’t enough so my nut said to bump up to 1 cup or 1/2 a can and that made the biggest difference. I would ask your nutritionist. I was sleeved on 10/2 so 5 weeks out today and eating soft food for another week. My requirements are 80-100g of protein, 800-1000 calories, 64+oz of water. I am eating about 4oz at a time or about two sunny side up eggs or about a small can of tuna to give you an idea. Tonight I met a family member at Seasons 52 restaurant and could only do 1 meatball and a bite of a 2nd and was full. So weird! I will also add when I moved from soup to real food and calories closer to 1000/day my lbs seem to drop a little quicker. I’m down 35 lbs total (10 lbs week preop liquid) and 25lbs post op.

I was Sleeved on 10/29. Been trying each day to get in all my protein and liquids but I have fallen a bit short each day. A;so struggling to get my vitamins in. I am still not feeling hungry but yesterday I just started growing really tired of the same texture of "food". I am a fast food girl, have been since I could get my own money and get to the drive thru. I miss the crunch, the spice, the different textures, the ability to choose something different everyday/every meal. The food commercials are really getting to me and I'm starting to think, "I can't wait until I can have that". I'm afraid that this means failure is right around the corner. I'm starting to regret that I ever did this. I could really use some encouragement and maybe some suggestions on how to work through it. Thanks.

Hi Hrsnjs. I had my sleeve done on 10/16. I’m eating solid foods now and I noticed that I can eat more of certain foods than others. My doctor wants me to get 60-80 g of protein per day. They never said 1/4 of a cup. Today I was able to eat a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese which has 16 g of protein in it. Just make sure you’re getting enough protein and following the serving sizes. I hope that helps!

How did you choose a goal weight?
AnA92212 replied to PopsFury's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor set the goal for 135 to 145 for me. I just kept working out and eating and I eventually landed at 116. At the time I was trying to conceive baby number 2 and doctor wanted me to gain 10 to 15 pounds. So, I did. Gained 30 pounds during pregnancy and only lost 10 of those before finding out I am pregnant with baby 3. Doctor thinks I need to stay around 140 to 150 for my body to be "happy". I am 145 now and 17 weeks pregnant so I will definitely gain some more but hope to be back down to 130 or 135 by my birthday next year. -
Bariatric and Alcoholism....
disco stu replied to disco stu's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
"transference" in an interesting notion, but based on my current experience, I've become convinced that there's a brain chemical explanation for my alcohol increase post-bariatric...... First off, let's acknowledge that heredity has a lot to do with addiction. Some of us are just born wired to fall prey to over drinking. Study: If neither of your parents were alcoholics, you have a 1 in 10 chance of developing alcohol issues. If one parent was an alcoholic, your odds move to 1 in 2, and if both parent were alcoholics, your odds move to 4 in 5. ack!! Guess who drew that last lucky straw! AA calls it being born 'allergic' to alcohol. Second, alcoholism is a scientifically provable brain chemical disorder; not some kind of moral failing or weakness of will-power. Here's a snippet from a great video that really helps explain. Third: There have been studies which link vitamin deficiency with an increase in alcohol abuse. I'm describing this study from memory, but it goes something like this: Back in the 50s, they did a study where they placed rats in a cage with a bowl of water and a bowl of alcohol and then fed them Puppy Chow. About 10% of the rats turned into alcoholics, which is in line with the general US population. Next they re-ran the experiment with a new set of rats, except this time, they extracted all the vitamin nutrients out of the food. About %85 of the rats turned into alcoholics. Finally, the re-ran a third time, but with Puppy Chow mega fortified with vitamins, specifically B and C. None of the rats turned to the alcohol. When I read this study - true or not - I was inspired. It made a connection in my head. What is one of the major issues facing post-bariatric patients? Vitamin deficiency. And who hasn't been a very good boy about taking his bariatric vitamins for the last two years.... the exact time frame where my drinking went from the occasional bender, to daily drinking? Me!! So two weeks ago I started getting really serious about my vitamin intake, including getting B-12 injections every two days. Wow! what a difference! My craving went from a scream to a whisper. This last 12 days of sobriety has been a piece of cake compared to all my other attempts (none of which lasted more than seven days before giving in to the cravings). Your milage may vary, but if you are struggling with managing your alcohol cravings, give b12 injections a try. Hopefully it makes the same difference as I've experienced the last two weeks (knock on wood) I'll keep this post updated and honest. -
The people I know that have had a second or third band have never managed to achieve the same level of success they did when they first got banded. Potentially you may have lots of scar tissue and adhesions. At some point in your future this band is probably going to stop working or cause issues that require a revision. Why put yourself through that, especially because as Matt says bands are being phased out as they have been proven over time not to be the successful tool that they were initially thought to be. I would be considering my options and looking at something that hopefully won't need another revision 5 or 10 years down the line

Dear Newbie, I'm not a vet--only going on 10months post op RNY. But here is the #1 rule of WLS, like think of it as the eleventh commandment. ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT OF WLS - If you want all to go well in your world, you will learn to pound drink water like nobody's beeswax. Whahhhh???? You don't like water? Then you probably should choose a different road to Thinville. Seriously. Learn to drink BEFORE your surgery. Practice sipping from a 1oz jigger, every 15 minutes...then every 10 minutes...then every 5 minutes, until you can drink up to 4oz of water every 15-20 minutes. And btw? I mean WATER. Learn to tolerate it now without a crapton of MIO or whatever the fork you think you need to add to it. Use a slice of citrus, let some strawberries sit in the water, or a slice of orange. But drink it without man-made whackadoodle sweet crap. Why? Cuz after surgery, your life WILL depend on it--more than ever. And best part? If you stay VERY well hydrated, then you poop better, your nausea rate goes down, it's easier to eat, you heal better, you make better/rational decisions, and you can TCB (take care of bidness), but best of all--you mobilize and move out fat stored in your fat cells. Signed Sincerely, The Water Board

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Matt Z replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Thanks. Dealing with a lot personally too. If anyone of you want to see what a post looks like when I'm pissed... go read that last one I posted to that thread, that was me like shaking mad. In this day and age, to tell someone they don't understand something because they are one gender or another (or one sex or another, your pick) just really set me off. I'm never anything but honest and factual. I go out of my way to be helpful and understanding. That post... concerns me more than anything because this woman is using her 4 kids as the reason she won't go to the ER because she's unable to consume water... yet, me alerting her to the fact that, she could die if she doesn't... is me being harsh. I can't wait to see someone twist my last post into some "mansplaining" bs. I'm dealing with a bout of shingles w/o a rash. So I've got no treatment options other than dealing with the pain, can't take any NSAIDs or pain meds that actually work thanks to the bypass... I still am greatful for the bypass, but this kinda sucks. I'm not going to make 200 before my 20th anniversary or birthday, and that is depressing, even if I fully understand that it's just some arbitrary goal that does nothing to negate my progress, it still sucks. Haven't been sleeping well because of the pain... BUT I am back to the gym most days now... working towards being able to climb a mountain. Need to be able to climb 500 flights of stairs carrying about 30 lbs of gear. The actual climb is going to be about 5000 feet in 5 miles. 10 miles round trip, 5000 feet up, 5000 feet back down. -
OTF! OTF! OTF! OTF! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! I joined OTF when I was pre-op to lose the qualifying weight. Post-op, when I was cleared for exercise, I kept it up. Two years later and OTF is basically the only exercise I do. I start my week "owing" 3 classes. Most weeks it 4 and if I can squeeze it in I do 5. Hour long, coached classes that utilize treadmills, rowers, with free and body weight exercises. The "gimmick" is that everyone wears a HRM and you see what "zone" you are in throughout the class. The goal is to be in the "Orange Zone" (84% of your max heart rate) for at least 12 minutes cumulatively (called splat points). For treadmill work everything is broken into paces for example Power Walker (incline), Jogger, Runner (speed) and the coaches guide you through that. Now before you say "Oh I don't want everyone seeing my heart rate" let me say this, no one cares. I'm in 3-4 classes a week and I'm only looking a 1 number...mine. At the end of the class you see total # of calories burned, and splats (its also emailed to you) For me, it works perfect. Classes are about an hour long, you are coached through everything but can work at your own pace. I need a defined time, with someone saying "ok do that, ok stop doing that, now do this". Then she I'm done, I'm done. I started pre-op as a power walker maxing out at 3.9 mph and (at my starting weight) I'd burn 1000+ calories in an hour class. Now, 2 years in, I'm a runner most days and I can ALL-OUT at 10+ mph and I still burn between 650-850 cals per class. Lastly, they are EVERYWHERE. I travel a lot for work and I can still get workouts almost anywhere in the US. Every studio uses the same template. They all feel the same, the only difference is the coaches. Without context I know some of this is gibberish, but I can't say enough about how much I love OTF, I highly recommend it.
