How long are you missing work?

I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed.

How long are you missing work?

I’m taking 3 weeks off. I was sleeved in 2017. At that time I arranged 2 weeks off. Didn’t feel ready to go back to a job on my feet most of the day, so I took a 3rd. This time I’m starting with 3 weeks. I’m sleeve to RNY on 5/6.

    blood pressure changes

BP improvement is the big reason my cardiologist wants me to have surgery. I’m on 3 BP meds. Exercise pretty regularly. And have a pacemaker and congenital defects. He said more than likely after surgery I’ll stay on 1 pill and for at least 6 months be closely monitored. When you think about why BP is higher it makes sense. By losing weight you decrease how much effort your heart has to put into just keeping you alive.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi everyone, I had surgery April 14th, so this Wednesday makes 3 weeks post op. How is everyone doing? How are you feeling?

9 days out, 8 oz of soup?

Everyone's body is different. The size of your sleeve is directly related to the size of your stomach before surgery. I can drink a 11.5oz premier protein in 3 hours by sipping consistently and I'm almost 3 weeks post op. For the first week, I could only handle 2 oz every 2-3 hours. Now for water I can drink up to 8 oz per hour as long as I'm sipping slowly. When I eat pureed foods or semi-soft foods, I can only eat 2.5-3 oz. I don't tolerate ground meat too well, but I can tolerate scrambled eggs that are soft cooked and refried beans when they're thinned out a bit.

    May 2022 surgery?

How long are you missing work?

I only work 2 days a week… and we self schedule. So I just figured mine up last night ..If I miss 2 days of work (PTO days). I will have a total of 17 days off before I have to return. That’s doable 😊

Can you lose restriction after surgery???

What Catwoman says - I'm almost 3 years out and the restriction is definitely still there. What you will learn over time is that some foods will fill you up MUCH quicker than others. Some will sit heavier than others. These will vary from person to person (I know, it makes no sense). Example, my buddy who had the same surgery at about the same time and with the same surgeon can eat a whopping 2 chicken wings before he's done. I can easily eat 3-4 of the same wings. Meanwhile, lobster - That guy can tear through a lobster like it's nothing. Me; I can maybe eat half of it. The only thing I can think of is the speed of which we eat because AFTER he eats that lobster he's pacing the floor and walking it off for an hour! I think what a lot of people figure out (I know I have) is you CAN out eat the sleeve if you try. This can be by grazing constantly, eating slider foods (anything that goes right through or you chew into nothing - think soft foods like ice cream or hard foods like potato chips), or contantly overeating. For me, I found that around 8 months or so that's where I found my new normal as far as how much I could eat at a normal meal and even today if I put more than 6-8ox of food total (protein and vegetables) on my plate I can't even consider eating all of it. Usually it's more in the 4-5 oz range total and I'm full and not uncomfortable at 3 years out.
  13. you'll have swelling the first few weeks which really limits how much you can eat. After that all goes down, from what I understand, it does loosen up a bit over time, but not THAT much, unless you're chronically overstuffing it.

    Intro and question

Hello! I hope this last week is a quick one and no last minute surprises! Who are you going to?

    May 2022 surgery?

All set to go next Monday. I saw the Surgeon this morning and also paid the Surgeons Bill and the anesthetic guys as well. The surgeon mentioned this morning that he would also check on my hernia while he was in there. One place I needed to go had a lift that was broken. I needed to walk up two levels. I am glad that they had chairs on each level. I always go red in the face. Other people had no problem with the stairs. Hopefully that will be me in the future. Anyway another week to go on the optifast Diet. It has all gone pretty well. Hears to all of us. WE GOT THIS.

How long are you missing work?

I'm definitely going to. My employer was ok-ish with me taking off a week, but when I said it might lead to 2 weeks they said absolutely not. So something that can protect me (and my job) if I need more time is exactly what I need.

How long are you missing work?

FMLA is federal and it seems you met the criteria for working 12 months or 120 hours. Once approved you have up to 12 weeks you can use if memory serves. Please do Google it first tho and then go to work and ask them for FMLA paperwork to fill out so you have it to cover you in case you have any problems after your surgery. Its a good protection net for employees from employers that get pissy lol
  18. Tonite’s dinner: chicken wings and fries. 326 calories. Ate all 3 wings and like 3 fries (the kid gobbled them up before i got to them 😡)
  19. I'm glad to hear you got it fixed up. How long did it take for your surgeon to fix? It's been about two weeks for me and it just sucks. Even now in the hospital, they keep pushing back the date. Also, afterwards did you have to keep doing liquid or could you do pureed? Sent from my LE2125 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. My surgery was 3/10/22, had the same issue. My surgeon performed an endoscopy with a dilation. He inserted a small balloon and gentle open a specific area that was causing that same problem. I’m now able to eat some solid foods. Yay!!
  21. I find it extremely difficult to eat as I am not hungry. Everything tastes bad, and I don’t enjoy eating. I have tried to eat but sometimes it hurts and I always get full. I am taking my multivitamin and calcium as required and drinking water and Premier Protein shakes-plus eating yogurt, mashed potatoes, sugar free popsicles, oatmeal, eggs and soup. Today I tried rotisserie chicken, quinoa, and one baby carrot (I was looking forward to it) and I ate a few bites chicken the entire carrot and 3 spoonfuls of quinoa. Meat of any kind tastes bad. I’m a bit scared - will it get better? My dilemma is now that I’m in the stabilization phase I am overwhelmed by the amount of food I have eat.

How long are you missing work?

I’m also an ICU nurse and also off for 10 days! I’m only missing 3 days total though due to how I lined it up.

    OMG the constipation is real

Just a heads up, may happen again (I want to say twice, but NOTHING like the first time….The new normal (every other day or so) started a few weeks after surgery. Now…normal (daily) if I’m walking a lot and getting fluids in. First few weeks of new things can be a doozy (wait until the hormones go all wacky!). After you settle in, things start to go back to normal, just eating a whole lot less!

No, i wasn't "slender", i was regluar-to-overweight when I wore my original wedding dress from almost 20 yrs ago. See first link below....It's so funny because i went through ALL my wedding pictures just now and there is NOT ONE full body shot where I am NOT wearing that wrap or have a bouquet in front of me....I guess I must have already been conscious about my size at this weight...i'm guessing I was like 140-150 or something here, slightly overweight, but not obese...yet! The second link below is a a pic of me wearing said wedding dress I posted 3 years ago, about 4 months into maintenance.

Nothing tooooooo exciting here on the clothes front - Just a new lined rain coat (the lighter one from Florida was not holding up to the two weeks of rain, chill and overcast trip in central Pennsylvania + Philadelphia over Easter vacation. AND, Ms.sss, were you slender in your original wedding gown? Let's see a pic? I think a vow renewal for the new you would be WONDERFUL! This was chubby (size 14) me back in 1994. Oh well. ;[
