Hi! I'm a new sleever, march 5th I have a few questions for everyone. 1) I can't seem to eat slow enough. I take too big of bites or just shovel it in. I can see that I'm slower then the husband and kids but not slow enough. I end up sick at dinner. Almost always. 2) is one is coupled with 1. I don't stop eating in time...so i get over full....and it leads to vomiting. I've tried measuring out my food. I guess I should measure even less. My brain is having a hard time comprehending that I can't eat a whole egg I guess. Did anyone else struggle with these problems? What did you do to fix it? I was also wondering if anyone knows how many calories I should be looking at 5 to 6 weeks post op? Thanks for any replies....I hope to get my crap together! I hAte throwing up! Allie

NEW to Dallas and looking for a lap band surgeon
HappyMom replied to aunnyq's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Andrea - I would recommend Dr. Adam Smith in Fort Worth. He is a great surgeon who performed my banding last month. The fantastic and unique thing about Dr. Smith is that he is also a lap band patient. He was banded a few years ago and knows exactly how the patients feel since he is also going through the process. I am not familiar with the staff in Fort Worth since my surgery was not performed there. We are lucky here in New Mexico because now Dr. Smith travels to ABQ one week a month to perform surgery and fills. The staff here in NM is fantastic! I have heard that if you are self pay it costs around $9900 to be banded by Dr. Smith in Texas.....it is around $15K for the same surgery here in NM with Dr. Smith. I really wish you luck in your Quest to find a surgeon. You will really have to feel comfortable with your surgeon and the staff since this isn't a one time interaction. You will be seeing the surgeon that you choose pretty much for the rest of your journey since they will be performing your fills. Oooh.. here in NM he always performs fills using fluoroscopy....you will find this to be an advantage over not using that method. You will have to check about the fill method in Texas, but I think that it is the same. You take care and good luck to you! -
FYI...allergies and hunger
jdmama911 replied to scootergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome you mentioned that!! I was having awful nausea even after a week post op. I went into the doctors concerned about that and something unrelated. At the end of my appt. I asked when I was allowed to go back on my Allegra and my other allergy meds. My PA looked at me and said "Take them and see how you feel tomorrow. I bet your nausea is being caused by post nasal drip." She was totally right. Now, it's been about 10 days and I've been getting hunger pangs and wondering why. I just realized today it's been a few days since I've taken my Allegra!! That's great. First thing in the a.m. I'll be taking it -

Ugh I hovered between 205-201lbs for weeks. Just stay away from the scale - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgiversary: 6/11/12 -
I was told also no white pasta or easer yet (lol) no white four products at all for a while. Well last week i went to lunch with my boss and had a burrito ate about half went down fine but about 15 min.'s later OH MY GOD the pain. I guess the torttilla swelled up and OUCH. So i've learned my lession. Others will say "check with your doc" this is good sound advise. I've also read where others have no problem with breads and pastas. If you want to be a hard head (lol) like me (I'm always testing my limits) you could try but its not advisable.

Requirements before surgery
HuneComz replied to kaypitre5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@kaypitre5 My surgeon's office notified me at the first appointment 3 months but it typically takes 4 from start to finish. Then at the last appointment it goes to insurance for approval which can take up to two weeks and then you get scheduled for surgery, which was about two weeks out. Again - this is all specific to my insurance and surgeon's office, but it is a general idea for you. As others have stated, once you start the process with your surgeon, they should be able to get your more specific info. Good luck. -

Protein and Herbalife
Inner Surfer Girl replied to christinamejia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not familiar enough with Herbalife so don't know for sure, but you need to read labels very carefully. What is the carb to protein ratio? Doesn't Herbalife have a lot of carbs? At three weeks out you should be adding more food sources of protein. What does your NUT say? Are you following your program? Are you getting in all of your protein and fluids every day? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Are you avoiding starches and sugar? Are you exercising? Almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. If you are doing everything you are supposed to then you just may be experiencing your first stall. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
Stomach feels full?
James Marusek replied to ThreeCrows's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery, the primary drivers are meeting your Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary. Your body is converting the stored fat in your body into energy. Thus you lose weight. I had RNY surgery and was restricted to 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of food per meal at the six week mark. So I thought it strange that you were consuming a cup per meal. But there are a variety of surgeries such as Sleeve and the meal limit requirements will differ. There are many different types of Protein shakes out there. To me they all taste bad. I experimented until I found one that I could tolerate. In my case it was Muscle Milk Light. I used a blender (Ninja single serving size) to blend the powder to the proper consistency. I blended in a banana to mask the taste. -
I had my sleeve surgery on March 30 and had to have an emergency Hemorrhoidectomy on April 7. I am on Lortab liquid every 4 hours and its making me sick. At this point I choose to be sick over being in pain. Hope it gets better for you soon. The thing I hate is that I have not lost a single pound in the past week. Being immobile sucks!!!

I had to have a major abscess removed surgically last week. The antibiotics are causing me to dump. Has anyone had this problem and did you find one that didn't cause dumping?

Changing Taste delays
aelovelady replied to SPettijo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was forbidden from protein shakes after week 2. The doctor wants his patients to get protein from whole food. -

Sooooo it's been a long road, I have lost weight gained it and then finally decided to get the sleeve, I am extremely nervous, I've never had surgery before so the feeling of not having control of my body is freakin me out!!! But I trust everything will come out well and im excited! I read on some forums that most had to do a 2 week liquid diet, my surgeon only advised me to do a liquid diet the day before I hope all will be well! But tomorrow 730am is the time!!! ???????????????? I look forward to starting a healthy lifestyle as a new sleever!! ✊

Yes. Just came off of one that lasted 2 weeks. Up, down, up, down. Frustrating, but if you stick with your plan, the weight will come off. Now I have lost 4 lbs in 3 days. That feels good!

Anyone else feeling completely drained?
Leslie41 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all-- My surgery date was 10/10, so I am more than three weeks post-op. I have been progressing very well, except that I am feeling completely drained. Not tired, but just lacking any energy. I know I have to "give it time" because I just had major surgery, but I stayed home doing nothing for three weeks healing up, and even though I wasn't doing much--zero energy. One thing I haven't seen is anyone talking about severe caloric restriction and its impact on how post-surgery patients feel. Like I said, doing great, lost 25 pounds so far, and expect (hope) to lose another fifty. But I am not taking in more than 500-600 calories a day. My NUT says that even when I am totally healed up the max will be 900-1000. That's a starvation diet, really. I mean, I don't feel starving at all, just...no energy! Anyone experience this and get over it in time, or as you ate more? I'm hopeful. You can call me "Low Energy Leslie" -
expected weight loss
JitterbugPerfume replied to saramelie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out with a 43 bmi, 42 on surgery day. I'm 3 ½ weeks out and have been losing about a pound a day. My friend, who had a similar height/weight (40 bmi on surgery day) lost most of her weight in the first 6 months, then got down to 115 by the time she was a year out. However, she had some plastic surgery to help her when she was 9 months out, so some of that weight loss is probably due to the removal if excess skin. I think your goal sounds realistic, as long as you are determined to stick to your plan. Good luck! -
RNY on Monday 12/14 some unexpected things
bugsy72 replied to Klolojadie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Klolojadie, congrats on your surgery. It's over! You're on the other side! : ) I was surprised by how much pain I was in right at first, too. But it goes away with each passing day. You'll see. I'm two weeks out now, and my middle section is a bit tender, but I quit pain syrup quite a while ago, even at night. As for fluids, I count everything i drink as Fluid. So my Protein shakes give me about 27 oz alone. I make a carnation instant Breakfast (low sugar) shake with milk and ice, and it grows to about 16 oz. Then the 11 oz bottle of Premier Protein gets me to 27. I usually drink two bottles of Fruit2-0 during the day. It's flavored Water, 16 oz ea, so that gets me to 59 ounces. Just a few ounces of other liquid like a little diluted juice puts me over 60. And that's how *I* get my fluids in! -

I was just sleeved on November 7, a week ago today. To date I have only lost 5 pounds since my surgery day. What has everyone else lost within their first week? For some reason I expected to lose a little bit more than just five in a week
-
So, I will be 5 weeks out on Tuesday 8/21. I have noticed that I have gained an appetite back..and I can eat anything I feel like I might want to try. (Still not eating fried or fast foods, though) I drink sweet tea. Water hurts and instantly nauseates me Crystal light burns my throat. I even feel like sometimes I over eat. I just feel like a huge failure right now. I'm super emotional and moody. I eat throughout the day, too..little bits at a time. Anyone else feel this way? And my scale is messed up, just bought it at Target and its totally off, even after setting it. So I don't know my weight. Ugh. I wanna cry All comments & feedback appreciated! Just don't be mean, please!

Surgeon Appointment Tomorrow
Hoven replied to Hoven's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The appointment went well. I know she answered my questions, but I'm a little stunned and can't remember. Stunned because when I sat with the admin folks to set an appointment for surgery, they asked if I wanted to so it April 15! I said yes. So, while I wanted to do this ASAP and get it over with, I'm stunned that its next week. I've been on their modified pre op diet for a couple of weeks. They said to continue that, so I'm good there. Just shocked that it came up so quickly. But pleased too. -
I was sick all last week and it was the only thing that would make me feel better. I say as long as you don't make it a habit and it helps Why not try it.
