    4days Banded Gained 8 Lbs

I was banded 12/29. I am only weighing in once a week, on my weekly bandaversary. My husband bought me a Weight Watchers scale a few days before my new life began. I lost 42 lbs on WW and 3 lbs on pre-op liquid diet. I promised myself I would only weigh once a week just as I did the 6 months I went to WW. I don't want to be a slave to the scale.
  2. HI, i had a hernia repair. I never knew i had one but i did have a problem with reflux. The doctor even showed me a opic he took of it. Mine went through the diaphragm and was "big". I had no clue...but i am so happy he fixed it. (the pic was kind of neat!)...anyways, i did have a lot of burping and gas in the first week...but i can't say that was fron the hernia repair..people have those symptoms from the band as well. I think overall, it can only be a good thing to get it fixed at the same time. Good Luck!

    Drinking too much??

I thought that too at first, but Water goes right thru... You will dehydrate if you dont get enough. At first you need at least 48 oz the first couple of days to a week and slowly increase to 64... mes
  4. So was this an extra large person... or just an extra fatty liver? When I had my consult with my surgeon he told me that he wanted me to lose 35 lbs because at the weight I was the day of the consult (354 lbs) I might be pushing the limits of the tools. Now, I know I'm super obese... but I found it hard to believe that I would need to worry about being opened up, and I have lost about 10 lbs with 2 weeks left before surgery. Does fasting or liquid diet within the few days before the surgery really help reduce the size of the liver?

    Head Hunger or Real Hunger?

Hi Mr. Walken, I got banded few weeks before you. Banded on 3/22/06. So I know EXACTLY what are you talking about. You will feel more hunger as you heal. And the more you heal and your body accepts the band, the more hungry you would become... I got the mid-band in France, and the doc. allows you to start with solid food after a week or so. I'm facing this problem where I eat a lot now, and feel hungry almost like before the op. Doc says the real restriction would come from the fills and not the band itself... as I believe the restriction from the band alone (no fills) is equal to only 20% Good luck and enjoy food while you can:)
  7. Ok, I have to vent. Anyone who saw my previous post regarding all of my preop fiascos will understand. I am supposed to have my surgery at 7:30 am tomorrow. A week ago, I emailed the bariatric center asking her when and where I needed to take my down payment as I am self pay. I never received a reply. I also called and left her a message and never received a return phone call. Since I work at the hospital doing my surgery, I just figured I would have my husband run the check to the cashier first thing in the morning while I was in surgery. Anyway, at 4:30 this afternoon my cell phone rings. It is the lady from the bariatric center who informs me that if they do not have my check tonight they will cancel my surgery. At 4:30 in the afternoon!! Are you kidding me???? I told her there was no way that could physically happen, as my husband and I were in two physically separate locations and I had his checkbook, and he needed to write the check, and the hospital closes at 5pm. She started to get really snotty with me, and I finally said "You know what, this has been a fiasco of miscommunications from the beginning, just cancel my surgery." At this point, (and I am speaking from a nurses point of view in addition to a patients point of view) she should have done anything she could have to smooth it over, as it is her job to be an advocate for the patient first and foremost. Instead, she said "Fine" and hung up on me. I immediately called the on call hospital administrator who happens to also be her boss and expressed my displeasure. She said she was going to try to fix it so we could proceed with my surgery tomorrow. The surgeons office manager just called and told me that they can't proceed because the hospital cancelled my OR slot. She said the surgeon is none to happy because they had reps from Inamed coming to assist with the surgery also. All I can think is WTF??? I told the hospital administrator that for the first time in 9 years I am actually ashamed to work for this organization, and I have always been proud of the hospital I work for. My grandpa is a retired surgeon, and I ran this all by him, and he said "Tell them to forget it and go to hell!" (Which I have NEVER heard him say...) What do you guys think of all this???????? I need some serious input!!
  8. I got my band a week ago I feel the need to eat often, but I do think it is head hunger. Usually one tablespoon of plain yogurt or cottage cheese does the trick. (I am on pureed foods but cottage cheese seems to be ok.) I think distractions at this stage in the game are key.
  9. Just something thats been bothering me a few weeks now. Maybe I'm just crazy or am I?? I have been itching EVERYWHERE. I think it all started like week 3 as I started my gym routine but Im also itchy when im not working out. Crazy huh?? i feel like a dog going crazy especially on my belly and lord forbid my back fat lol anyone else have these crazy itchies in their life???
  10. I am going for my consult in 2 weeks and am curious to find more information about the excess skin and port. Is there anyone who didn't need surgery to remove excess skin? I have about 100 pounds to lose and am worried that even if I lose it I'll still need surgery to remove the skin. And the port....how much restriction does that put on your daily living? Anything that you can't do that you could do before? My husband is a little freaked out about that. Thanks for any and all input! Carol
  11. Hi! Hope you are doing ok---I wasn't allowed anything but clear liquids for a week after my surgery, so I don't know if you messed up or not. After reading what other people have had to say,I wonder if my dr. is over cautious. I was told to drink SlimFast, but that was the only other thing I could have.
  12. Hi- I only had to do 1 week pre-op liquid diet. I used Slim-Fast ( with Jello, broth, popsicles) and lost 13 pounds in that week. Good luck to you! 4 weeks would suck! Be brave... Robin
  13. I really wish I could eat a protein meal. I wonder why some doctors require different diets. I am on 5 shakes a day, no food, for over 4 weeks.
  14. WOW!! Welcome to onderland!! I am doing the HAPPY DANCE right along with you !! Glad to hear you are doing so GREAT!! I am 5' 7" and my Dr. put my goal weight at 155 lbs. Last Drs. visit a month and a half ago he said he see's no reason why i should'nt be able to make it to goal. So I am gonna try! I am about 10 lbs away as of today! I was in a size 32 jeans at my heaviest and now I can wear a pair of size 12 what I call "Skinny" jeans. Have a great week and continued success on your weight loss journey. I LOVE my SLEEVE!!
  15. I went on my yearly girls get away to Turks and Caicos only to find out when I came back that my surgery waa moved up to August 20th. I have several outfits from Torrid, Lane Bryant, Avenue, and Ashley Stewart. I also have about 4 pair of sandals and three of them have never been worn. I also have a brand new pair of Uggs that are a size ten that have never been worn. I am interested in selling everything. If your interested in purchasing the items please emai l me at jrlashe@gmail.com and I can send you pictures. I wish I was able to donate them but they've only been worn once some not at all and I have to get things situated before surgery.

    Debating referral

I did speak to the nurse in my PCP office and asked that they start the referral process... been a week and haven't heard anything yet. Not 100% sure on the surgery yet, but I definitely want the nutritionist and such... Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Whats the deal with no coffee anyhow?

Almost 2 weeks out, my nut said a cup of coffee is OK as long as getting water in. I tried decaf today and have awful heartburn. Won't be doing that again anytime soon!!

Just a vent about loss so far

It is frustrating. But you have answered your own question. Exercise and diet are at least as important, and in the long term more so than surgery. I am in a mini stall right now, and working hard to make sure it isn't longer. But this stuff happens when it happens. We can only keep doing what we know we need to do and wait for it.
  19. Had my surgery at 9:45 this morning, woke up in the recovery room around 1pm. He took out my gallbladder to which is why it took so long. I've already walked a few times and have been up to pee three times so the nurses seem happy with that. Only ice chips so I'm crazy thirsty and the little heart monitor keeps going of which is getting annoying but the nurse listened to my heart with her stethoscope and she said everything was fine. Pain doesn't seem too bad. I went the first 5 hours in my room before I requested any and I've had more a couple times since then. Burping like a mad woman but nothing yet from the other end,v walking will help that I guess. Gonna try to sleep some more before they come in and wake me up again!

    5th September 2009

It's Saturday night and I am starting to think, that this time next week, my op will be over and I will probably be sat in the Hotel room, feeling starving !! :smile2: I am starting to look forward to my op now, as I know that it will be the start of my new life, losing all this weight I have gained over the years. It will soon be gone and hopefully I will have the confidence to start dating again and living my life to the full. Got my eyes on a guy at the golf club. My friend has told him that she is planning a dinner date for him next FEBRUARY but not said who with !!!!!!!!! The theory is that I will feel confident enough by then to go out with him........anyway he doesnt know who its with but hes said YES ! The good thing is that I know there is already a spark there but neither of us have done anything about it..........so this could be it or at least its something to focus on for now. S xx

    Stalls

I don't know why, but it appears you're right in the time when most do stall. It happened to me a little after two weeks out and lasted a little less than 2 weeks. It's tough, but I sure did appreciate the loss after the stall so much more. Good luck in riding it out!
  22. Hi all, I am one month post op and have gone from 266lbs to 245lbs. Just transitioned to soft food 8 days ago and am at a complete stall. Only consuming 600 calories per day and getting almost all of my water in. Trying not to get frustrated as I have another 110 lbs to lose... Is this normal?

    mushy, mush, mush

Premade you can blend anything I guess. I have had the most fun blending the chunky Soups. They come out about mashed potato consistancy. Clam chowder is great, and so is the mexican chicken soup. Other threads recommend the bacon and bean soup. Don't forget about refried Beans, great right out of the can with some cheese on it. The only other thing that I can think of is grits, and baby rice Cereal. Keep your servings at 1/2 cup or under, my doctor says to keep it at 1/4 cup. Sometimes I can eat the whole can of soup, but most of the time I half it. I admit that I am getting a little bored with the mushy phase, but I have 2 more weeks of it, so better get used to it. Good luck!

    Problems with Band please help.

I too am having a leakage problem. Been going on 3 mos. I have gained 20 lbs. Go to Dr. next week for fluroscope with dye. I have now restriction at all. It is scarey but I know I will lose it once the problem is resolved, even if it requires another surgery. I love my band when it is working. Charlotte
  25. I, too, had some astounding burps post-op, as well as a gurgly tummy. A couple of weeks ago, during a midterm, my stomach was growling louder than the pits of hell...the girl next to me kept looking at me like what is wrong with you? Since then, I make sure to eat SOMETHING before class :bored:
