I dont know what to do!
SleeveandRNYchica replied to ThinnerTiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember you from the forums, I had my surgery 10/1/12. I lost about 53lbs pre and post op. My weight loss was SUPER slow!!! I got pregnant a year post surgery and gained 40lbs. After the baby, I started experiencing horrible GERD. I also was not losing weight at all. Slider foods like crackers much easier(not good I know) but something didn't seem right. So I consulted a new bariatric dr. as my first surgery was in S. America. He told me he has seen stretched sleeve post-pregnancy. Now mind you I was very diligent when pregnant. So he sent me for a barium swallow. It was discovered I did have GERD and a hiatal hernia. I went for an endoscopy last week. My sleeve is angulated (twisted) and has a bit if a pouch so food does not exit the way it should backs up in sleeve which can cause stretching and GERD. I am in the process of a revision. Get checked. I do not believe there is enough data about pregnancy and the sleeve IMO. I think there is still a lot they do not know. -
Am considering lapband or gastric bypass, hopefully with a surgery date of 12/17. Am almost into senior status. Have some serious health issues including diabetes, hoping to avoid others, and have an acceptable quality of life as I move into retirement. While I accept that there will be some pretty drastic changes once the surgery is done, and am doing my best to prepare, am still very curious about post op diet etc., and how to deal with everyday things, such as preparing meals for family, dealing with social gatherings, etc., in the post op phase.

I can't. Tell since my port revision surgery yet. When my port flipped it was sticking out sideways and looked like a hernia. So I had to have a revision and I think it's above my belly button. Not sure though.

Low BMI desperately seeking surgeon
itschoice replied to middlegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded here and they say you qualify with a BMI of 27 or greater. They are located in California, USA. I hope that helps. A number of years ago my BMI was much lower than it is now so I know how you feel. Good luck. If you want my name or have any other questions PM me. Thinking of getting Lap Band
georgia girl replied to annabellapeekin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I'm Pamela. I have only had the band for 10 days so i can't help you on the long term part but i have had a great experience with the band so far. You are truly blessed to have a brother that is willing to pay for your surgery. I would not have been able to get the band if it wasn't for my insurance. Mine would cover the gastric bypass or the lap band. I researched them both and decided to go with the lap band. I wasn't comfortable with the mortality rate and the band is fully reversible if needed. Every person is different but i am so glad i chose the band. Good luck on making the right decision for you. Suggestions please...

I am 7 months out and a slow loser. I have lost 45 pounds, but my starting weight was 218. I had a revision to a sleeve from a slipped band. I eat about every 2-3 hours. Breakfast is sugar free oatmeal made with milk. AM snack is a banana the 100 Greek yogurt with 1/4 c kashi lean crunch. Lunch is a vegetable and 2 protein-1/2 fat free cottage cheese or 2 light string cheese. PM snack is apple with 1 T low fat peanut butter. Supper is vegetable and 2 oz of some sort of protein. Night snacks are an apple with 1 T low fat peanut butter and 1/2 c frozen Greek yogurt. Hope this helps. It works for me. -
To Band or Not to Band...
kwcrnp replied to BandingBeauty's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too have waited many years thinking about WLS. I work in healthcare and see so many bypass complications that haunt patients for years. I don't see band patients though (I work in a bariatric hospital). I have the issue that even though I know I'm overweight I don't feel overweight. I'm very active and "see" myself skinnier then I really am. I lost 110 lbs in one year (11 yrs ago) doing Atkins/exercise.....kept it off for 2-3 yrs then it started to creep back. I've gained 60 back total, so not a total loss! I decided on getting banded this past fall, have done all the work for approval (lost 18 lbs too!) and got my surgery date today! April 16th will be here before I know it!! I wish you the best with your band and know that we are taking a great step towards healthier lives!!! -
Tomorrow at 7:30 am is my procedure. Praying for a one shot surgery, but it's in Gods hands and what's best will happen. Please keep me in your prayers. I'm so excited for the next step of this journey! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hypoglycemia after surgery???
Briswife15 replied to Mary_Berry_213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I developed low blood sugar about a week after my RNY. Was told to drink a protein shake when it got too low, because we shouldn't have sugar. It leveled out. I had been diabetic before bypass, so this was a surprise! I eat every 3 hours, too. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
So I got to meet my new surgeon yesterday. My employment has a special clause that says "all Bariatric surgeries will be done at..." So even though I was in a WONDERFUL program, if I want to be revised, I must switch. Not very happy about that since the follow up and guidance is really poor with my hospital vs the competitors hospital (btw, they carry the blue center of distinction from bcbs). Anyway, I refuse to stop defeated so forward we go. Plus the best news ever is that after surgery I can return to my program. I'm feeling special!! Fast forward, I met her and she is nice and supportive of my revision. I was worried that she would see my continued weight loss as a cure and the band would not need to be removed despite my severe reflux, slight dilatation, and now slipping (which is what I thought happened but could never prove!) and she doesn't want to wait for surgery. So EGD is scheduled and we meet again may 17th to see what insurance says (which I hope isn't a problem, I have looked at policy and it should go through but never know with them!) Then I get my date! It's been a long road but the light at the end is getting brighter!!! Just wanted to share with my friends here.

Let's do it..... June sleevers.... Roll call!
Bdevine replied to chelleshocked's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is June 11!!! Kinda scared because I was going to have the sleeve but because of some new developments after my endoscopy the doctors feel the gastric bypass would be better for me. -
My bariatric doctor told me during my initial consultation that 90% of his patients lose 95 pounds during the first year with gastric bypass. He had never had a sleeve or lap band patient, so that was the only statistic he had on his past patients. To me, 95 pounds in one year would have been amazing. When I switched to VSG, it seemed like 95 pounds in one year would be almost impossible to reach. I was more than ecstatic when I lost 95 pounds five months after surgery. When I lost 140 pounds at 7 months post op, I hit goal. I would love to keep this weight off forever and I know it might be quite a struggle to do so. I've read that most post op patients gain about 10%-20% of their weight back after two years. That would be about a 15 pound gain for me, so I'm trying to decide if I should lose 15 more pounds now.

100% REGRET THIS SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY
Jerzeegurl0815 replied to IM.ON.MY.WEIGH.DOWN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry to hear your story. I just revised from band to sleeve on 8/12. I had my band for 9 years and I also had a hiatal hernia. What was slated as a 90 minute surgery took 3.5 hours. Recovery with my band was simple, I got the surgery on a Thursday, was at an Easter egg hunt on Sunday and started a new job that following Tuesday. I expected similar pain...boy was I wrong! I am 6 days out and I have been up walking...not strenuous, but about a mile at moderate speed. I have been getting about 40-60 grams of Protein in via shakes, hi-protein chicken broth, hi-protein Jello, and Isopure--by far the jello goes down the easiest and thinner liquids hurt. My problem is sudden, shooting pains in my sides and my groin. It feels like a cramp, but doesn't tense and then ease it is just tense....heating pad helps some and I have been popping Gas x and prescription heartburn meds. What are theses sharp pains and when will they subside? Sometimes the belly binder helps and sometimes hurts. My stomach looks like I am 6 mos prenant and was even asked such when in the grocery store! I do not regret my decision, I just want to get moving...please advise. P.S. My post-op follow-up is Thursday and I still have a drain in place. -
Anyone in the 9-12 week range?
BostonWLKC replied to BostonWLKC's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks All. Another question..... are folks eating by ounce or by cup? For example if I have ground turkey - 4 oz is like a cup or so which seems like a lot?? I can at it and am full afterward. It just looks like a lot and wonder if I should be measuring out like a half a cup versus ounces HW 242, SW 236- Bypass 12/20/17 GW#1- 199 [emoji736]. GW#2- 175 CW 195 5’6” -
Hi Just curious what folks are doing for caloric intake in this post op range? I was told by my NUT that the longer I can stay off carbs the better since you can’t go back easily once you do. Soooo I’ve stayed at the 5-600 range with the diet of lean meat, dairy etc and haven’t added anything Reading a few posts that staying at a low caloric intake can backfire?? Thoughts? 100% REGRET THIS SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY
IM.ON.MY.WEIGH.DOWN posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I regret having this surgery I wish I would have never gotten it. I had my sleeve done on August 11th and here it is August 17th and im still in the hospital because nothing stays down. My surgeon found that I had a hiatul hernia and repaired it during surgery. However, I still have not been able to eat or drink after that...so then he does a dialation and what do u know still nothing is going down to my pouch. I now have to get a stent put in my sleeve to see if that allows me to have any kind of success with holding anything down if not then he will perform gastric bypass on me...I dont think anyone can imagine how i feel right now...Have anyone else experienced this or something similiar if so please enlighten me on your journey please because I feel just feel like what i anticipated being the best decision i made in my life turned out to be the very worst decision of my life. -
Hey All... Guess I'm out of practice for posting... or maybe I'm just too busy eating??? Yep... I think that must be it! Just a quickie as I need to go stick the hens in the oven... but wanted you all to know I'm thinking of you and will really try to post a long drawn out post soon. I go to the cabin every other week as that is still where my heart lives but I am in Oshkosh this week. I have another court meeting per phone tomorrow afternoon so I am a bit of a nervous wreck until that is over with... hopefully it will really be the end of the whole custody mess. Sherry... I am with you on the sleeve thing... I told my husband the other day that my biggest regret in regards to bariatric surgery was not getting the bypass. The sleeve is an even better option in my book. (((Hugs))) Thank you for always sending the most positive and caring PM's ... you really are a doll! I think my statement above is another reason I don't post so often... I really don't want to rain on anyone's band parade... ya know??? Well... must go... the hens just won't wait! ((((HUGS)))))

I had the laparoscopic RNY Bypass on 7/30/14, released and home on 7/31/14. Struggled the first couple of days with pain on one side where the largest incisions were but my Dr explained that is the area where the stapler was passed through. He encouraged walking and said that would promote healing. I am now on day 6 Post Op and doing much better. Still sore, tire easily but have noticed improvement. I graduate from Clear liquids to 'pudding and cream soups' today, Yah! I never would have imagined I would be excited over those two food items, but after 3 weeks of all liquids they sound like T-Bone steaks I gained 16 lbs in the hospital from fluids and swelling, was a bit disappointed that I was higher than my check in weight, but as of today I am back down 28.6 lbs. I know I will get there, and so will you it just takes time!! Good Luck to you

thanks for @@Debbie3sons to let me know i have a fellow patient who has my doctor also..i went in to have WLS and he wanted me to have the bypass due to my size..i was as wide as i am tall...and i was scared to get it and wanted the lap band...he looked at me with a yeah right, you will not lose look and that just made me more strong...and also upset me..he then told me about the plication (i band and also now called gastric band and imbrication and etc)...he told he it was a new helper to the band and that he thought it could help me but def let me know that i had to help myself first..i like knowing the results i have (are) maybe making the plication and lap band more successful..truth be told any WLS can help and any WLS cannot help..i feel it is a lot patient doing in regards to the success..and to me losing 50 pounds is a success...losing ANY is a success...people seem to forget it it about better health, a better life or for me, it was to merely walk again and be able to wipe my ass again...that is why i had WLS i am somewhat familiar with the (SIPS) but not enough to comment on it.. i say go for it make yourself well dr enochs is a superb doctor as is his staff yeah the office is kinda slow but when i go monthly now, i schedule the appt around 1 or 2 and then take the rest of the afternoon off and as i always say for its true to anyone reading my words: for best results, with any WLS, it is wise to follow the doctors advice sometimes things (complications) happen and sometimes they don't.. its major surgery not a manicure...just do the best we can with what we have...and where you are now...if you don't do good one day, do better the next...its a lifestyle change..not a diet...it wont happen overnight but if you keep going...eating, moving, believing it will happen..

Im in Raleigh, Paul Enoch's is my surgeon and Nov 14th is my surgery date. I was going to have a lap band but he presented a new fairly new procedure he is doing and asked if I wanted to join a study on long term results. He explained that in Spain they have been doing this surgery for the last 3 years and in the states recently. My wife and I are in the medical field and his reputation is great. He is one of 7 surgeons nationally participating in the study it's called a Sleeve with single Anastomosis duodenoileal bypass (SIPS) . Anyone know anything about this. I can't find anything about this in any of the forums.

How Long Is Surgery For A Revision From Band To Sleeve?
BellaHugz replied to hallen651's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision surgery January 2nd ,my surgery was 3 hours , I has bad scar tissue and the band was growing into my stomach , that being said I felt great after surgery a little sore and tired first couple days but that's it not a lot of gas no nausea , I felt much better after this surgery .The Lapband recovery was harder for me . Oh my goodness Nat78 sounds like your body went through alot. So I am understanding you right you did get to have both the lapband removed and the sleeve done in one operation?
