    Newbie with 3 kids

The first week is hard, but then it gets easier everyday. The pre-op diet may be challenging as well. You aren't suddenly going to lose so much weight that you look different. It will be over a few weeks and months. You won't want to pick up your children, since that could rip your stitches. Maybe talk to them about that ahead of time. Let them know that you have to go see the doctor and when you come home you will have to rest a lot. Kids can often rise to the occasion. It may be useful to have some help for the first week or 2.

    Omg its time!

I found what helps me is stocking up on sugar free popsicles. It's somthing that I can chew on. I'll be honest, I did cheat some the first 2 days, but by day 3 I was able to stick to it. Luckily I only have one week of it. Just take it one day at a time and you'll do great!

    banded 6/30/09

I was banded on June 30th also. How are you feeling now? I'm doing good, a bit sore around the port wound but I understand this takes longer to heal. How are you coping with the liquid diet? OMG on day 3 I was absolutely starving and put slice of bread in my soup out of desperation. BAD GIRL! I know now, after I had eaten it ( and felt much better) I researched it and was shocked to the core to find out the possible consequences of what I'd done. I genuinely didn't know this, my doctor told me liquids only for 10 day to let the band heal but didn't go into much detail. Now I know why I am a bit worried I may have done some damage so believe me, I won't be pulling that stunt again!! I was lucky in that I didn't suffer the gas pains or any other side effects that other bandsters talk about and am just raring to go after fighting for over 20 years now to lose weight. I reckon in the past 20+ years I have lost ( and put back on most of it:glare:) around 30 stones!!! Hope you are feeling well and good luck on your journey.

    Surgery Tomorrow

Good luck to all of you ! Tmf said it best "6 months from now you'll love the step you are taking." Oh, how true ! I was banded 6 months ago , and while my surgery and recovery was soooooo easy, the best part is im down 45 lbs !! Down from 225 to 180 ! Im beyond happy ! I just followed my Drs rules 95 % of the time (healthy food, small bites, chew well, and exercise 3x a week minimum ) and the weight has slowly come off. You can do it ! Let us know how it goes, good luck !!!

    Cardio after surgery

I waited 5 weeks before getting on the elliptical. Lots and lots of different types of walking before then. I was walking the same day I came home from the hospital. Not more then a quarter mile, but at least it was a start. I remember needing to increase my O2 capacity with the little breathing applicator in order to gain strength for walking further. By the end of the month, I was walking 5 miles a day in addition to hills.

    Cardio after surgery

That's great that you were able to do that. I'm building up to it slowly. I want to get out of this starvation stall and kick start my metabolism. Today was my first full day back to work and then I came home and walked my dogs for 20 minutes. It's a start.

    I can't burp!?!

the reason for the diarreah is because what goes in liquid comes out liquid. that is the only reason. As for the burping it took me a good week in order to burp, at first i felt like i always had to and this strong pain and i couldn't. But now...it all flows accordingly. I couldn't even yawn either, but we are good know. You will improve 400% each day, at least i did. I was never in pain, just tightness...ok pain when sitting and getting up from a down position...but it was just like i over exerted my abs that is all. I have a whole bunch of drugs, but never took any......The gas, once it comes out you will feel SSSOOOOO much better!! I wish you a fast recovery, i am still in shock on how much better i got day to day! ( banded 10/17)
  12. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks that my insurance company has been reviewing my file for the surgery and still no word. I am getting more and more nervous that I am going to be declined because it is taking so long. How long did it take you to hear back from insurance company once everything was submitted???
  13. Christmas has been such a hard time to follow the pre-op diet! I just gave it up for a week because I had my step-kids here for a week and they love my cooking. So it was time for me to cook their favorites--homemade mac'n cheese, spaghetti etc. Then taking them to dinner, making breakfast... it was too hard. They leave tomorrow, but my son is coming today. He is 20 and bringing two friends with him because they are hitting the New Years parties and concerts in Nashville. I have to say that since I haven't been following a diet this week it has made me realize how badly I do eat and how crappy I feel and over tired I am. I felt MUCH better on low-carbs! So--despite new company coming for another week, I am jumping back on the horse. I can't stand feeling this run-down and I can absolutely say it is the foods I've been eating. Hello protein!

    Airplanes

I did a big trip about 5-6 months after op - with 12 different flights in just over a month. (At one point there were 3 consecutive flights with quick transfers and 30+ hours in the air). I didnt have any problems with the band - was often a bit tight but ate on some longer flights. Did have one bad episode where I tried to eat, had two small bites, well chewed and then had 5 quick trips to the bathroom and needed anti nausea tablets to stop the slimming. Otherwise was fine. Perhaps just take a protein shake to make for yourself if it is going to be a long flight - just in case.

    Feeling Tired all The Time

I felt exhausted till about two weeks ago and now am three post post. Take care of yourself, walk, rest and drink lots of water! It will pass-you are not alone!
  16. I'm almost 2.5 months out, and before surgery I honestly didn't have acid reflux much, so it sucks that after the hiatal hernia repair and sleeve I'm having it almost all day every day.. Probably a month ago I called the surgeon's office telling them I was having AR issues: they said to try pepcid complete. It worked for a while, but eventually I was having to take one in the morning and one in the evening. The past couple of weeks the AR has been getting worse between the two pepcid tablet doses so I called the doctor's office again. They recommended I try nexium but the pharmacy I went to was out so I talked to the pharmacist who recommended zantac because it would work faster. It worked for fast relief but not long-term. Should I follow through with giving the nexium a chance? Or tell my doctor I need something stronger? When I get hungry the acid really starts acting up and I can't always eat right away. But then when I go to eat, I can only manage one or two bites before I feel nauseous and unable to eat. I'm not full but I don't feel hungry, just sick for a while. Then the hunger eventually comes back and the acid is torture all over again! It's a miserable cycle, so I'm open to all suggestions at this point.

From the 3s to the 2s

I started at 341 and had surgery April 29th. I am only weighing myself once a week but last Friday I was 303. So close!
  18. Having bypass in February? We are starting a closed/secret group on Facebook and would LOVE to have you join us. 2 years ago I had a sleeve done, but due to complications they are revising me from sleeve to bypass. I had an AMAZING group on Facebook that all had the same surgery that month. We were going through the same things whether it was venting one day, sharing milestones, and made lasting friendships! Since it's a secret group there is some hoops to go through to get added (sorry, Facebook makes it harder) The good thing is that it's completely secret meaning none of your friends can know see posts or ever know you're in it This makes it a safe place for us because I know for some it's not something they want to share. Here's how to join: 1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/lanaepetersen and send me a friend request 2. I will accept the friend request, then send you an invite to the group. 3. After you are added to the group I'll unfriend

    Acid Reflux

Thank you so much for all your help. I made the mistake of giving her lemon drink and coffee in this past week, prior to this, acid was never an issue, so based on your kind advice, we will avoid all the things mentioned.

  21. I agree re: behavior modification. My current obsession is painting....my house, that is. It's not expensive, provides instant gratification and terrific exercize. I just don't understand why the more weight I lose, the less confident I feel. I always assumed it was the whole 'who I am is tied into my obese physical appearance'. In other words, I don't know how to live as a slim person. Think about it...all of a sudden, we can shop in regular stores. We can fit comfortably into standard seats. No one seems to be watching us when we eat, we can easily maneuver in a regular sized dressing room, a bathroom stall, etc. May sound strange but I spent 40 years developing behaviors that were necessary when I was fat but aren't now. I always dreamed of being slim and now that I'm on my way, I'm happy...it's just I feel a little lost and not quite sure what to do with myself. I'm not depressed by any means and I have ZERO regrets...I'm just at a loss sometimes as I move down the weight chart and into a life that's completely alien to me.
  22. I had staples... My surgeoun uses staples routinely. I have 6 in my port wound and 3 in the rest. My surgeon says that they ensure you don't pull the wound open again, but also that they fade to practically zero. I was dubious, but he's the best surgeon in the UK, and so I'm prepared to listen!!!! Also - I never had to do any liquid phase of pre or post op... I went straight onto puree! I feel great and not hungry at all!
  23. Sherri - I'm right there with you. These holidays have been terrible on my resolve. Doesn't help that I have absolutely no restriction at the moment and all the local fill docs are completely booked. Oh well, I have a fill scheduled in a couple weeks. It just hard working on will-power alone this time of year. PS - Good to see another new "old-timer" from 2005. We should start a thread to help with support for those with the band more than 2 years. Don't get me wrong I love the enthusiasm of the "newbies" they frequently help kick my own lagging motivation up the rear and get me moving again on this path but sometimes it is also good to talk to someone else that understands what I'm going through at this stage of the game.

  25. @@abs0253 Yes they are delicious! I've tried the powdered version and it makes me gag. My #1 fave is the English toffee and I've used it in my coffee for about 3 years now. I carry one with me in my purse. When I go out with my girlfriends on Monday's , after we go to lunch and shopping, we always stop in at Starbucks. I bring my vanilla Premier Protein shake in a little cooler and order a tall brewed decafe coffee and add a few drops with half of the shake. Makes the BEST tasting latte for only 80 calories with 15 grams of protein! If I want it cold, I just ask for a venti cup of ice. Where there's a will, there's most definitely a way
