How do crab and lobster go down when you are restricted? Just wondering because I am going on vacation next week to a place where there is a lot of that and I am hoping to be able "get it down".! Thanks!

Thinking of all of you that have been banded and will be banded. sending you lots of luck and healing energy. The surgery is the easy part. The first few weeks before fill can be difficult. Lots of gentle hugs, you'll be tender for about a week and remember, walk, walk, walk, walk, the first two days are hard, the next three are a medium level, you will get tired easily and then after that you can do pretty good. Follow your lifting restrictions to the best of your ability. Good luck.

Is 50% all you can lose?
Patriciann replied to blackcherry2002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine in October and I've lost 60% and still going. And I'm OLD. I didn't lose for about 3 weeks and then this week I lost 5 pounds. Not everyone is the same, you might lose 120%, lol so don't put too much stock into those articles. -
Was banded on the 15th. Doing very good. Per instructions, am on soft foods this week. Saw the doctor today and she was pleased with my progress. Have lost 8 pounds, off of insulin, off of two high blood pressure meds, and off of med for cid reflux. Told her what and how much I was eating (1/2 c. soft foods per meal). She asked how I was doing with that and Hhow I felt, which I was fine with it and not feeling too hungry. She gave me some more material from the lapband comp. It said that one should be eating 2 oz. per meal or you could stretch out the pouch. Am I stretching out my pouch? I am not feeling bad after eating. How much are you all eating post surgery when on soft foods? JuneR,

Last week: 242 This week: 239.6 Loss: 2.4 lbs So, I lost what I put on last week, plus another 0.2 lbs. Sheesh, I hate TOM. And I can tell I've had some hormonal changes with the weight loss. Not so much the actual "event", but my emotions and pre-TOM pains have changed. Part and parcel of the changes my body is going through, I suppose. I started thinking about making an appt for a 2nd fill after last week, but really, it's head hunger that I'm battling. I'll see what happens this coming week before I make a decision. Keep pressing on everyone!

New Member-Freemont Ca. Consultation?
Minxz replied to klbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Klbs: I just started my Kaiser journey toward the lapband. Their process is somewhat lengthy. You PCP usually will have you do all the tests you need prior to getting the referral to the bariatric division. Next you get a card letting you know when your orientation is. I just had mine today in SSF. It is a 3.5 hr class explaining the steps to getting Bypass or banding and what the differences are as well as you new way of eating etc... They stated to expect the whole process to take about a year. In fact they told me not to expect my next apt for another 24 weeks!! Meanwhile I am supposed to lose as much weight as I can. For SSF its not 10% its individually tailored and I wont know what I'm supposed to lose for about 36 weeks.. The speaker said that our start weight will be the one we were referred with and everyone in the room will be expected to lose between 20-50lbs before they will be approved for the surgery. I know there are other threads that go into detail a little more on the Kaiser steps but thats my experience so far. -

About 150lbs overweight & Waiting for Approval
SpideyMom replied to xbibixbrownx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
BCBS is usually very good about paying for the surgery. The usual wait time, according to my physician's assistant, is up to 4 weeks for them. You may have to have the PA nudge them a little with a call every week. That's what my PA says she does for all her cases. Good luck! -
Dr. Abkin is scheduled to perform my surgey in a few weeks. Has anyone here used him. I really liked him. I went and had my annual with my gynocologist, I told her about the lap-band surgery and she gave me this look, I asked her what was up.. She said that she doesn't believe in weight loss surgery, she said that people should just "diet and exercise". Like I never thought of that.

So my big day is so very soon. I am excited but not looking forward to the recovery. I am not the type of person that can lay around, so I need to be careful not to do to much. I already have too much scheduled for this weekend. I have a crop nite to go to for my scrapbooking club (which I need to go to because I get a free scrapbook this month) lol. I also have a wedding shower to go to for one of my employees. And then her wedding the week after. So hopefully I can get at least hour into each of those. We will see. I do have a question. Can you do cream Soups on the liquid diet (like tomato or pea)? Or should those be saved for the mushies stage? I guess I can ask in the hospital on thursday, but am trying to get everything I need before hand. Wish me luck!!

Band removed...need help deciding sleeve or bypass?
Startingover! posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I had to have to my band removed last week. The surgeon said that after my stomach had healed, in about two months, we would discuss my options for another WLS. First after such a bad experience with the lap band I'm a little scared to have another WLS. So I really need to make up my mind if I want to. I started Weight Watchers as soon as the band was removed to ensure that I didn't regain the 56lbs I had lost. But I don't know if I can do it forever. So I'm really leaning towards another surgery. The question is which one-the sleeve or bypass? With only 25lbs to lose to be at goal I'm thinking the sleeve maybe a better choice for me. I think the bypass might be overkill. I was just wondering if anyone who has had a band removal and then had either the sleeve or bypass could give me some insight as to their personal experience to help me decide. I would really appreciate it! Thanks to all! :welldoneclap: -
I have lost 27 lbs since surgery, most of it in the first 4 weeks. I expect it will slow up, especially since I don't have a lot of restriction. Last time I was on a diet, it took me around 6-8 months to lose the same amount... how can I not be happy with my current result. :whoo::whoo:

Hi Wendy. I wouldn't put too much stock into what other people say/think about your weight loss. They probably think the surgery is a miracle cure, which you and I know is not the case. I had my surgery November 8, and I've lost 16 pounds - which works out to about 3lbs per week. Everyone will be different, though, so if yours is more or less than that, don't worry about it. Just keep losing, and I know you will! Melanie

I had my surgery about 3 weeks ago. I have lost 9 lbs since the surgery and a total of 23 since I started. It seems to me that this is pretty good, it's an average of 3 lbs a week since surgery. I went to WW yesterday and had lost 1.2 lbs, which I thought was pretty darn good. When talking to friends, they asked how much I had lost. When I told them, they asked if that was all. I said I was thrilled to death. They felt that I should have lost more. My question is how much have you all been losing since surgery in November?? I figure if I average 2 lbs a week I'll have lost over 100 lbs in a year, so I'm thrilled.

30 pounds in 3 months and the Dr. is upset? Wow! I'm 3 months out and I have lost 33 pounds my Dr. is very pleased with my weight loss. 30 pounds in 3 months is great. Your sister is doing just fine. I was told 1-3 pounds a week and thats exactly what I have been losing.. She is doing something right.

After surgery, I didn't have much pain, but I felt HORRIBLE for a little over a week. I was very very weak and vomited up saliva often. I was apparently very swollen around the band and not much would go down. I felt like I was going to die. Then it was all great after that! Be aggressive with your fills because that's the key. My doc is very conservative, and it took 5 fills and MONTHS of waiting to get the right restriction. Also, you MUST exercise....... the weight loss will be so much better if you do!!! The fills aren't bad at all....... just a little pressure from the needle popping in the port. GOOD LUCK!

My doctor told me about it on a recent visit. All you need to get signed up is your surgery date, the doctor didn'thave to do anything to activate it. It looks really interesting to me. It also includes two nurse phone calls during the 10 weeks. I'm starting on Monday. Why don't you do it too and we can support each other? Maybe we can get other Bandsters to do it too? Britt

Hello. You are correct - signing up is all you have to do to get started. However, once you sign up your program is active. You can put it on hold 1 time during the entire 10 weeks and it cannot be on hold for more than 14 days. What I did was register and set everything up. Then I downloaded their book (chapter by chapter) and printed it out so I could read it before I actually started the program. Anyhew - I wasn't able to start when I had planned on it and am heading up north at the end of next week to visit family and attend a birthday party. SO, I have decided to not bother starting until I return on the 27th. In fact, it probably won't be until the following week so that I have some time to prepare. I'm also gonna try to get the hubby to join me, which may be interesting. Luckily, I'm not doing too bad food wise as it is. However, I do think that the Lindora program will really help me to kick my efforts up a notch. I've been exercising either 4 or 5 days a week at the gym (40 min. on the treadmill and some ab woke) and was excited because I thought I was getting healthier, etc... Then this past Saturday rolled around. OMG - the hubby & I got out our tennis stuff and headed to the courts. I thoght I was gonna die. It was so much more exhausting than I EVER remember it being. Then came Sunday....I was and still am sore in places thatI didn't even know I had muscles.!!! It's just insane. So, I think that once I get back from PA and get meals planned for at least one week - then I'll begin my 10 week trek (I'm thinking May 4th). In the meantime, if anyone has tried the program yet, please let me know as I'm anxious to hear people's experiences with it. Thanks again!

OMG I was horrible, grouchy and mean I even yelled at my boss. I desperately craved potatoe chips and couldn't have any. My support mechanism was gone and I had to quickly figure it out. The good news is it passes, and I got a grip but it took a couple of weeks.

Hello - I'm 5 weeks Post-Op and just last week I decided on having a slice of diet whole wheat bread toasted with egg salad and let me tell you it was delish I took very tiny bites and chewed it very, very well.... Not one problem at all. I was full and it lasted me hours (3-5) before I could eat dinner that evening. Just be careful when eating it and you should be ok. I did have some baked pita chips the other evening and that was a bad idea... Why??? because I didn't slow down to know I had enough of them since they tasted so darn good!!! I must have eatten about 7-8 of them and let me tell you they must have swelled fast with the water I had drank 30 minutes prior. I didn't have pain bit I knew I was full, way overly full... So be careful what items you eat and how fast!! Hope this helps you out. Cynthia

Hiatal Hernia = Chest Pain?
mttopma replied to downsizingdiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have a hiatal hernia. But my biggest complaint was the acid reflux, I have been on meds for 10 years for GERD. had the upper endoscopy last week found the large hernia which will be repaired during my surgery next week. Please mention to your Dr about your concern, you may need an endoscopy to determine if that is what it is so it can be repaired during your surgery. This way the Dr will know what is there and will have your consent. Good luck.
