  1. Good luck! I have a few weeks to go but I can't wait to walk on the beach with my hubby and not get out of breath! I'm also excited about shopping in normal stores, not hunting specialty shops and settling for "ok" clothes!
  2. Made it to second goal, which was to be down to what I was when I got married. 230.6 this morning, and 19.4 lbs until my next goal. Which is to be down 50lbs. I know it will take longer to get the 19 off than the last 35.4 lbs, but I know I can. I'm almost 7 weeks out ( will be on Tuesday).
  3. I plan on it. I'm still on the post-op diet levels so it'll start getting easier this next week. I can now add beans/legumes and seafood. Tonight DH and DD had chopped BBQ chicken sandwiches and squash while I had 1/2 of an individual Trader Joe's Mexican Quiche. Tomorrow night we're planning salmon filets and I can't wait! Snowbird, question for you! I saw that you had a Brat at the BBQ. How does your stomach handle that? We have an Oktoberfest dinner at church (German Lutheran!) on 10/4 and I'll be coming off of my post-op diet that week. By then I'll be eating all foods. I'm nervous about the brats. Hot German Potato salad might be okay, tho it has vinegar in it and the Red Cabbage might give me some problems but I was really curious about the brats. I only get them once a year (at this dinner) so it's kind of a treat. Thanks.
  4. I cook for the whole family. Generally speaking I cook a lot healthier than I did pre-band. I eat whatever they are having - just less of it. My breakfast and lunch generally is more planned around me, since I eat it normally at the office during the week.
  5. Of course I will talk to my dr about it tomorrow. I am at 4 weeks today. I get full really easily. Today, at lunch, was my frist day to eat at a restaurant and to eat a semi normal meal instead of Soup. I got red snapper, mashed potatoes and green Beans. I ate maybe a corner off of the fish, most of my mashed potatoes a(it was a small portion) and a couple of green beans. I ate a bite of creme brulee. I am so stuffed I can hardly move. Before surgery, I would have eaten the whole thing, plus ordered a salad, plus had a whole creme brulee. I am wondering if I should wait for my fill? It seems the band is working the way it is supposed to...I have not had anything get stuck except for some tuna fish a week ago.
  6. Lulu

    Lulu - where are you?

Hi Carmen, I'm right here! Read the posts every day, just haven't had a chance to do much replying. I had my first fill on 12/11 but still don't have much restriction. I can eat just about anything - but must do it slowly. My downfall is evenings; we are used to munching and it's a hard habit to break. I'm stalled at -20 pounds but its probably because I haven't been drinking my Water. That starts today! I'll be happy to get through the holidays without gaining. I still love my band though!
  7. I had a prefill during surgery - I'm about 2 weeks post-op and I won't be getting a fill at my next appointment - I'm eating small enough portions and feeling full and at this point, getting a fill would restrict me too much - I didn't get the band to starve and have deficiencies, I got it to limit my intake of food healthily, which is what is is doing currently.

    So much gas.

Gas X will help, and it does go away, think it went away for me after about 2 weeks.
  9. I still plan on following the post-op diet recommended by my surgeon, but I was just thinking about how every surgeon seems to have a different recommendation. I ended up switching surgeons along the way, and the diet recommended by the original one is very different than the one that I ended up going with. I thought it would be interesting to hear what everyone else did post-op... Here's my diet: Week 1 - Week 3: liquid only Week 4 - Week 6: Mushy foods, like pudding or yogurt Week 7 - Week 9: Soft foods, like scrambled eggs Week 10 - Week 12: Soft foods, like hard boiled eggs Week 13 - Regular food

What was your post-op diet like?

1week-liquid, runny creamy 2--week mushi, yougurt cottage cheese, farina, eggs, tried pita few pita chips, mash potato 3-d week, planning to eat tuna salad, crab salad, egg salad, and maybe chicken 4-th week solids!

What was your post-op diet like?

This is the band manufacturer recommendation: Liquids for 3 to 4 days then to solid food Mary, I have my patient handbook from the manufacturer right here. It very clearly says that weeks 1-4 are for liquid and very soft food then they go on to list examples like Soup (no vegetables), yogurt, milk & Jello. Then they go on to say that weeks 4 to 6 are for thicker foods etc... I don't see anywhere where they recommend solid food after 3 to 4 days... My band book is by Bioentrics (Ihamed)... Do you have a different band? Jamie
  12. June 18th is the big day. I've been so excited every since I got approved but once I got my date I started having second thoughts !! Has this happened to anybody else? I'm still going to do it. It's one thing to go thru the process but now I have my date in 2 weeks. I can't wait ....or maybe I can lol.
  13. It's a wild and crazy ride. As long as you are eating and keeping up with your Vitamins, it should be OK. Also, keep in mind that this kind of loss my only go on for a couple of weeks and you will likely stall afterwards. It takes the body time to process what is going on. You may want to back off of the daily weigh-ins. Once a week at the very most, if you can manage it. Congrats and good luck!

    Finally got my date !

I'm ready for it but I'm nervous everyday that passes I keep getting closer. My doctor only has me doing a clear liquid diet 1day before so I'm not getting the hell of a few weeks of only liquids which is good o suppose but I haven't read anybody else only do one day. It's nerve racking ????????. And I keep having dreams about being in pain afterwards. I think that's my biggest fear of the surgery !
  15. I am currently with Amerigroup/Medicaid i was suppose to get sleeved July 2nd, but i found out a week before surgery that the Doctor does not accept my insurance, smh. They told me there was a mix-up in the paper work. Mind you, I've been going to him for month and discussed everything from thick to thin concerning the whole entire surgery process pre and post. Now i'm stuck looking for a Doctor who accepts my insurance in the NYC area. If you of any doctors that accept it please feel free to help me out.
  16. Glad to see that you're all losing and doing well! Isn't it great to watch the scale go down, down, down?! PatKaye, The liquid stage is the toughest. You WILL be able to get all of your Protein in sooner than you think. Right now your sleeve is swollen and won't let you do much dense food, but the restriction will ease up as you heal. Liquids do go down so much easier than solids will. Just stick with your doctor's instructions so that you heal well and, in a few weeks, you'll barely remember how hard it was to get protein in daily. Good luck to you all!

    Lap band buddy

First, you are not a complete failure. What worked for me was eating 1200 calories a day, about 60-70g of Protein. I log all my food on myfitnesspal (Add me as a friend & you can see my food diary. user: ajtexas0), drink 80 oz of Water a day and I walk about 3 miles a day (during the work week I climb the stairs in my office building 30-50 flights a day). Sounds easy.....but it wasn't. The hardest part was my head! Food cravings and I eat when I'm bored or upset. In the beginning I kept a journal and I would write down everything from what I ate to what I was feeling. Then when I found this site (4 months post-op) I would post and blog here. Having good support is what made me successful. My family didn't always understand but always supported me. I have a support group through my doctors office I go to every month and all my friend here are priceless. I log on here every day to get support. And finally, I check in with my doctor every month. I don't always get a fill, but I weigh in and tell them how I've been doing. So, first thing to do is forgive yourself and quit beating yourself up. You are ready to get back on track and we are ready to help you. You can do this, I believe in you!

    Struggling badly!

The carbs and sugary food are what is making you hungry. It also doesn't engage your restriction, so you can eat a lot of them. No one like to hear this, but you have to stop eating them, all of them, immediately. Take three days and eat nothing but lean, unprocessed meat (no sausage, bacon, deli meat, salami, jerky), eggs, green veggies, and healthy fats (olive oil and grass-fed butter. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want, but eat only those things. This will help you kick the cravings for carbs and sugar. You also won't ever feel true hunger as you get to eat as much as you want, whenever you want. So, you will learn to distinguish true hunger from head hunger/cravings. Also, even eating as much as you want, you won't gain weight and will likely lose. After those three days, keep eating that way for two days but get (or revive) a myfitnesspal.com account and start tracking your intake. After those next two days, add in modest amounts of dairy, fruit, nuts, and beans/legumes. Set a calorie goal for yourself -- I would think you will lose weight at 1500 calories -- and stick to it. Avoid grains, starchy veggies (potatoes, peas, corn, sweet potatoes, lima beans), sweets, liquid calories, and alcohol. Stick to your calorie goal. You absolutely can do this, I promise. 25 lbs may seem like a lot but it really isn't that much to take back off. I have done it before and I know you can too. Good luck!
  19. Wow, that is pretty far just being a few days out from surgery. But good for you. I hope I can do that after my surgery next week. How is everything else going?

    walking soon after surgery

I was sleeved June 16 and the week before the surgery I was walking 3 miles, now I can't seem to get passsed a mile and a half. I almost have a car sick feeling. I think it is very strange but I try it every day, I first thought it was the heat from walking at an outdoor track but the same thing happens in my cool basement on the treadmill.

    walking soon after surgery

I walked a lot of halls at the hospital until I was released. Once home I walked at Costco and the local mall since the weather outside was cold and rainy. I was released to go back to my "normal" 30 minutes on the treadmill two weeks after surgery. I had no problems.
  22. I'm not real worried. And I guess I should not complain because I did not have a 3 week stall. Maybe this is it, regardless, I know if I continue my healthy habits I will continue to progress towards better health. I try to weigh myself twice a week. I will weigh again on Friday and I bet I'm back from where I started.
  23. Had surgery on 4/1 and I am down 25 pounds from day of surgery. About 35 altogether. I exercise 5-6 days per week in the gym usually getting about one hour of cardio. I am taking in about 800-1000 calories per day with about 70 percent coming from Protein. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal. I get my full allotment of Water on most days. This weekend I had to travel and when I weighed in at the gym on Monday, I had gained 2 pounds. Not too worried, but after a steady 4.5 pound per week loss I have been scratching my head how I gained. I was disciplined on my eating habits while away. Could it be water retention or exercise related? Thanks, TEK
  24. @@tekjr1 weight gain Water, exercise???? maybe, maybe like you said "not too worried" you are losing 4.5 lbs a week - thats so great!!! 2 lb weight gain??? it does happen to some at times but the weight should start coming off again but sounds like you are following all the rules - exercising, drinking, watching intake tracking MFP can't get much better than that btw - please stop scratching your head you might lose some hair soon enough 25 lb loss since surgery keep up the good work for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life kathy congrats

    New Mother Makeover

Capital One has cosmetic surgery credit. Check your Doctor's office to see what plans they accept. My daughter called Capital One today to see if they would give her a $15,000.00 loan for her lapbad. They took her info and said to call back in 2 hours. 2 hours later she was approved at the terms and interest rate she wanted. She called the Doctor and scheduled her surgery for 3 weeks from today.
