    Surgery was last night

I can't believe how lucky I was. I see all these posts about extreme pain. I was hitting the morphine button pretty much every time I remembered it was there the day of surgery but I really don't remember any pain. Never had any of the gas issues. The worst part was no liquids. Surgeon said no liquids for 24 hours after surgery and I already been with no liquids for 12 hours prior. Day 2 I was taking liquid Vicodin but only had two doses. I was only able to get a few steps at a time but food was going down okay. Day three, there was that was really bad nausea and I had to take three different types of anti nausea medicine to get under control but that was it. I had one dose of liquid Vicodin in anticipation of a long car ride and a half a Vicodin when I got home but nothing since. One of the posters who was sleeve that pretty much the exact same time I was still needs Tramadol and Oxycodone to sleep. I do have problems with pressure in my chest when eating and often all day but nothing to the level of true pain. I've got to pray to the gods of weight loss surgery for sparing me some of the stuff that you guys are going through. You have my sympathies. HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16
  2. I think it really depends on how much you need to lose. Bigger people ( 150 lbs or more) seem to loose more in 4 weeks than those who need to lose only 100, for example. I lost only 10 lbs my first month, 3 the next (Bandster Hell) and then 8. I have had 2 fills for 7 Cc and feel good but might get a little more fill next month if my hunger pangs get closer than 3-4 hours.

    Questions About Gastric Sleeve Surgery

    1. Sedentary work approx. 6 weeks. Although I didn't take time off because I work from home. 3. You can drink Protein Drinks but watch the sugar content. I made my own or went to Tropical Smoothie. 4. I wouldn't take the chance with Alcohol, I'd assume a small amount would make you tipsy. 8. Not really. I'm 7 weeks post op and only have incision itching from the largest incision. 9. You could get pregnant right after surgery. Fairly common I heard. 10. Yes, yes, and yes. Stay hydrated. 11. The food will sit on your chest. May cause you to vomit. Sit up.

    10/23! feels like forever away.
  7. Everyone’s surgon is different. If yours is large then maybe he does need to do them at different times. My HH surgery was years ago & the recovery was pretty easy. When I had my GB my esophagus was it an L-shaped. I’m retired, the surgery itself was pretty easy. It’s getting your body used to your new stomach and your new way of eating. You are going to be weak for about a week to 10 days afterwards because your body is just gone through major change.

    NO WEIGHT LOSS

You gain water weight from the IV fluids they give you in the hospital. It takes several days to lose that water weight (my surgeon said avoid the scale for the first 7-10 days, so that's what I'd suggest). Try not to stress yourself out, the few extra pounds after surgery is 100% normal!

Anyone ever eaten before you're suppose to?

I'm glad the moment passed for you. I'm 19 days out and in the beginning I was definitely hungry just like you. I wanted anything and I knew that u was truly hungry. However like you I would take a nap and that would help. Now I'm learning that if I drink a Protein shake it help tremendously with the hunger. So maybe that's something you could try. I know for me that helps at night as well. Good luck and hang in there.

    3 weeks post op

It’s normal. You may be sucking in too much air when eating. Also, They put a lot of air in you during surgery. You should be burping and passing gas. Then, You’ll become more comfortable as gas travels out. Try coughing 10 times every hour too. It helps so much!

    Weight loss after surgery

I'm 3.5 months out and two inches taller than you, and I've been averaging -10 pounds a month. My 3-month checkup was last week, and my NP was very happy with my progress. As others have said, your starting weight will make a difference. Any loss is good loss; sometimes it'll be slow, sometimes it'll go faster. It's mostly about whatever your medical team says is healthy. I'm happy with my rate: I won't be able to avoid loose skin entirely, but I'm hoping to minimize it!

  14. yes you will. A "meal" will be about 6 to 8 oz after everything is stable. Remember the "rules"... no liquid with meals, Protein first, and smile (well that last one is more a guideline). I am about 10 weeks out and I can drink normallt, and eat in the 5-6 oz range...
  15. Auri - you're fine with your own insurance. Just don't switch plans. I love how the majority of the states that have the highest obesity rates are not on this list. At least 6 of the 10 aren't on the list

    GET MOVING!!

hey My name is Traci, and I have been where you are, and it truly sucks ass. In Feb and March of this year I was the same way. It killed me to get up and get off the couch. I would rather of stayed in bed than I would walk around the house. The more I didnt want to do anything, the more I gorged on food. I drank over 24 Mt dews a week, fountain drinks every single day...32 o's...and just really didnt care becuase what the heck, I was already fat, what was a few more bites or one more drink??? I started my weight loss journey In April. Got approved and was within 1 month away from surgery....I was sooooo ready. The start of May I bought a single speed bike from Walmart, and started riding 2-3 miles. Damn, it use to just kill me..... Once I was approved, I went in for my surgery consult, and immediatly started the liquid diet....DAMN...that was the hardest thing.....I cheated, but not in big ways...Like I would have some lunch meat or something...but no huge things. My surgery went so well, and I was determend to make this work. At first there is not real tightness in the band, so it is definatly will power to stay motivated. The first few months I lost 10-13 lbs each month. The past few, I am down to 6-8. It stinks. I started cyclying more, and bought a hybrid bike with gears, and have been riding usually on the weekends anywhere from 15 miles to 42. I just completed my first 40 mile ride last weekend.... Some days it seems like it is harder than others, and I slip and drink a soft drink or 2, or eat something I shouldnt...but............. Last night I was able to go into a NORMAL store and buy a dress.... It was a awesome feeling and wonderful motivator. Dont give up on yourself......Just know that it is normal to eat allot before the procedure is done, it is what they call last supper syndrome, and allot of people do it everyday until there surgery. IT IS NORMAL> As far as being tired....that will get better....try walking just a little....any little bit will make you feel so much better....and soon, you will be walking miles. Please feel free to PM me, or email me any time if you would like to talk. I am from Indiana... Traci

    New Goal Setting for Summer

Sleeve - first let me say I am sorry for your loss. You have a great attitude and you are right, it will happen. My husband's birthday is July 26th. By that date I would like to be down 12 1/2 lbs (I have 25 to lose to get to goal). To accomplish this: I will - 1) train for a 5K - signed up for a couch to 5 K class that starts this Thursday. 2) work with a personal trainer (signed up for 5 weeks of training) 3) continue to follow my current eating regimen of 70+ g Protein, 60+ oz of Water, calories in the 800-1000 range AND 4) take a Strong Woman class (10 weeks) This is SO do-able for us!!
  21. I drank my first shake at 7am... OMG is nasty. I had a yogurt at 10 And since my stomach feels like its going to explode, and. Have to drink my other shake in a few minutes and I don't know that I have room I feel sooo full. Also day one I've been on the toilet almost all day. Is anyone else's like this?
  22. I gained 19 pounds on the day of surgery. My surgeon laughed and told me to go home and pee it out. It was gone after a week.
  23. Hollywood and I are about the same. I have to do 3 weeks liquid. Less than 1,000 cal a day ... 2 protein shakes ... one yogurt ... one serving of fat free jello pudding ... sugar free popsicles ... and clear broth. And ya, its hard to get to 1,000 on that I am on day 7 now and have gotten about 500 to 700 calories a day but I have also lost 10 pounds
  24. I'm out 1 year 4 months and have been at goal (down 145 pounds) since 10 months out. What has worked for me and will hopefully continue to work is measuring and logging all food consumed. Yes, I work out 6 days/week but I think the logging has helped the most. Helps to ensure proper levels of nutrition and keep me in check with portions.

Anyone With Prostate Or Other Cancer History?

hi GMNABAT I am a 10 year+ happy breast cancer survivor. (at that time no sleeve) I followed all the instructions my oncologist gave me - whether it was to take a new pill, chemo, or do this or that so i would survive even if i might gain weight. I'd rather be a survivor for the past 10 years,+ and live to tell about it and possibly might gain weight -than gain weight, but anable to tell my story Kathy
